from warm to storms. right now we are tracking storms surge into the area. murder mystery. a woman is found dead in philadelphia. what police are saying about the case? rivalry renewed. the flyers and penguins are just hours away from taken their keystone state rivalry outside. >> announcer: nbc10 news starts now. good evening. tonight severe weather has moved right into our area. here's a live look at i-95 in south philadelphia. you can see the camera shaking their a little bit, being blown by the wind. and a day that started with sun and warmth has changed over the past few hours. here you can see just how fast the storm rolled in. we have live team coverage of

the stormy saturday. let's go to first alert. we've had a very busy day. temperatures topped out 73 degrees in philadelphia. we are tracking the rest of needs warnings moving through parts of southern jersey and really the jersey shore. so right now severe thunderstorm warning in effect for cumberland, atlanta and cape may counties. we do have severe thunderstorm watch in effect for philadelphia county so keep in mind we are not done yet. here we can see the line of thunderstorms moving from west to east right behind that you see a quick clearing as that cold front sweeps on through from west to east. i do want to show you some damage reports here that you will see exclusively with us. so reports over quarter size hail in die am ter. we're talking about already reported for delaware county. seeing some downed trees for kent county as well so that thunderstorm wind damage is really one of the biggest issues that we have been seeing.

some more hail for kent county and we're done yet. i am timing out some storms approaching atlantic city by about 6:59 p.m. coming up we have more to talk about because we're going from 70s to 30s by tonight. >> and our team coverage continues in and out with nbc10 news who is live in wayne. >> reporter: we'll see it all over 24 hours that beautiful spring-like weather earlier today then about an hour ago we got drenched with that storm. it's beginning to move out of here towards philadelphia and the shore and again tomorrow we could see cold weather so earlier today people went outside to take advantage. a wild day of roller coaster weather. tonight whipping winds and heavy rain, thunderstorms across the east coast. but earlier it was yet another weird winter day with temperatures up in the 70s better catch it while you still

can. >> it's usually a little colder. >> reporter: a perfect morning for pick-up basketball. >> i'm trying to drop 20 or more. >> reporter: 6th grader is getting some rare outdoor practice for his team winter all star practice later tonight. >> whenever we get warm weather like this, we take advantage of it. >> reporter: over at valley park the birds are back and so are the crowds of families with their dogs tagging along hitting the hiking trails in shorts and tee shirts. >> i use this trail a lot and i want to keep it beautiful. >> reporter: this group of volunteers got up early to up graffiti that's been spray painted across the park. >> we took mud and put it all over the graffiti and it just cleaned it up. >> reporter: but by late afternoon the tight line of thunderstorms moved in. >> it's pouring out of nowhere. it just came out of nowhere. >> reporter: surprising a lot of people and sending us all back to reality normal winter weather returns tomorrow. >> it's very interesting. it was just so nice out. >> reporter: and now?

>> now it's like pouring and kind of cold. >> reporter: and we could see temperatures close to freezing in the overnight hours, quite a weather whiplash. most people we talked to they're just happy to get some time outside on this sun, on this hold and cold february month. weather whiplash exactly. the severe weather is being blamed for poujz tonight. ppl is reporting more than 6,200 outages in reading and lancaster and in the past hour peco reported a of 1,300 outages in the entire service area. and you're looking live at philadelphia international airport where the storm is putting a damper on air travel. it's reporting delays in excess of hour and a half for departing and arriving flights. tonight a killer is still on the run and philadelphia police are turning to surveillance video for clues. the woman was found by a family

member laying face down in a pool of her own blood inside her port richmond home last night. police tell us it doesn't look like someone broke in but the second floor of the home was ran sacked and some electronics are missing. in camden now police are asking for your help finding this man. ike fitzpatrick is accused of sexually assaulting a woman last month. he convinced her to get into his car, drove her to a secluded area, sexually assaulted her and took some money before she got away. a driver hit a woman in the city's neighborhood and then took off. philadelphia police are searching for the driver of a white nissan who struck the woman at 5th street and wyoming avenue at 1:30 this morning. she's in the hospital in critical condition. a fake police report landed two people in trouble in gloucester township. on monday, police got a call about a possible abduction. they arrested 19-year-old tyler

mcgroil and when he said he had drugs on him and a warrant out for his arrest. after taking him into custody they realize there was no abduction. police then arrested 28-year-old madison garaguso charging her with filing a fake police report. >> this is our house. >> flyers fans had descended on pittsburgh. the puck will drop on the clash between the cross state rivals. nbc10 news keith jones is in pittsburgh and keith sets the scene for us out there. >> reporter: you know what? yesterday i rolled my sleeves up it was 78 degrees and sunny today it's snowing. the temperatures have dropped 50 degrees. the wind is gusting out here. good thing yesterday i filed a report showing you a little behind the scenes look of a tour

national party chairman. he's the former labor secretary. the democratic party must be the center of resisting president trump. the news of the new dnc chair prompted a response from perez. congratulations to thomas perez who has just been named chairman of the dnc. i could not be happier for him or for the republican party. meanwhile, vice president mike pence is in las vegas this weekend. he spoke at the republican jewish coalition last night. pence said the bonds with israel have already grown stronger under the trump administration. the vice president said he's committed to achieving peace between israel and the palestinians. >> any agreement must be reached by both sides and where there will undoubtedly have to be compromises, know this, the trump administration will never compromise the safety and

security of the jewish state of israel. >> pence said the white house is still assessing whether to move the u.s. embassy in israel from tel aviv to jerusalem. >> some of the same people that marched in that massive women's rally last month rallied again for health care. started this afternoon at thomas payne plaza in center city. they wanted to hold the rally today because congress is heading back to work on monday. pennsylvania state lawmaker is trying to ease concerns people have now that donald trump is president. democratic state representative chris roub held a community form today where we go from here at a mosque in philadelphia. he says he wants to give people an opportunity to come together, ask questions and be heard. >> any concerns people have about what's happening in the oval office, you can multiply that times ten in terms of how quickly things can term and

we continue to follow the latest on the storms moving right through an nbc10 is live. what are you seeing out there? >> reporter: we are in upper dash by right on route 1. some light rain still falling here but the worse of the storm

just passed. it was shortly before 5:00 when the intense rainfall started coming down. that does show a lot of that hail hitting the windshield, the lightning going off. it was an intense period of heavy precipitation but that again has passed now. it was a little bit of a problem for traffic moving through but we did check with delaware county and it looks like there's been no major damage here. we're live in stormforce10, nbc10 news. >> thanks for the update. the puerto rican community in philadelphia is asking for a beloved mural to be restored. this mur yel of lady liberty with the puerto rican flag draped over her head. it's been there for four decades. someone defaced the mural two weeks ago and now the community is calling on the developer who owns the building to restore the mur yel. >> i'm tracking the tail end of thoeds thunderstorms moving off

the skies have opened up across much of the region. here's a live look at cape may where the roads are wet, the storm is making one of its final stops here before moving off shore. and this is a reminder of just how dangerous the weather can get. this is video from last february after a tornado ripped through lancaster leaving a wake of destruction right in its path. nbc10 meteorologist erika martin joins us now with the latest on today's storms. >> here's the deal. they were fast and they were furious, all due to the fact that we had very warm air in place. we were behind a warm sector. temperatures for today topped out pretty much in the 70s across this entire delaware valley.

so of course any time we see the battle of the air masses somebody's got to win usually that cold front. so this is why we are seeing those thunderstorms. we now have a severe thunderstorm watch still in effect until 8:00 p.m. for camden, delaware, montgomery county and philadelphia counties. here you see the line of thunderstorms moving from west to east very quickly. you can see the clearing behind that as that frontal boundary moves from west to east. due to the onshore flow, the south early winds it will deteriorate any of these storms moving towards the jersey shore so that some good news there but i would like to show you something exclusively here that we will show you with your most accurate forecast. the damage that we've already been seeing. some hail, some downed trees and some power outages and of course if you follow us on social media you will have more updates on that. so right now let's time out the final storm cells moving through. so it looks like corbin city may

see activity at approximately 6:21 p.m. and 10 minutes later for pleasantvilleville. keep in mind all of this of course will be moving off shore. so right now we're still seeing some rain on the lens in center city, otherwise conditions are certainly improving. hour-by-hour forecast, let's take our time with us. right now we're seeing that strong south earl flow. look how quickly the winds go from south to northwest and then shifting through the overnight hours and, in fact, it looks like we will get a wintry mix for parts of the lehigh valley very early this morning and everything improving by about 8:00 a.m. as we get those hour by hour starting at 6:00 p.m. he we start seeing temperatures decline into the 40s later tonight and into tomorrow morning. we start off in the 30s so a chilly start, much different than we did feel for today

simply because we are behind that cold front. if you follow us on social media you will have more updates hour by hour also picking up on that cool down pretty much for the entire day sounds. unfortunately not seeing much of an improvement and we will stay chilly for the next couple of days so we will stay right above the regular temperatures for this time of the year. the ten day on ten brings us some isolated thunderstorms on wednesday. we're seeing some 40s in friday and it pretty much stays right there. here's danny with sports. >> thank you. up next nova wrapped up the big conference and grabbed that crown. we'll go live to pittsburgh also for a look ahead for the outdoor game between the flyers and pens next.

pittsburgh setting the stage for us. what do you have, john? >> reporter: if you can see it is actually flurrying right here at heinz field which is pretty cool if that can actually happen during the game. the weather right now looks good. it's going to be cold, a little windy early in the game but it looks like it's going to be a good night for this game. if the wind is a factor they'll switch ten minutes in so they have a chance with the wind. they are so excited to play in another outdoor game. some of these flyers haven't played in one so they are really excited. they said they have to pinch themselves. now this is a huge game for them. there are five points out of a playoff spot right now and it's primetime against their biggest rival. it's huge. >> this is the grand stage that everyone wants to play on the big stage.
