the cosby case. nbc 10 is live for us in norristown for the hearing. pam, the case has been underway for an hour? >> reporter: that's right. he arrived 20 minutes before the 10:00 a.m. start time of the hearing. here he is in the way into court. >> you're looking nice, bill! >> thank you. >> reporter: that was cosby on the way into court thanking someone who told him he looked good this morning, what they are discussing inside right now is this. cosby's defense wants the case moved out of montgomery county. they say any potential local jurors have seen and heard too much negative press about the case. we're talking about the 2004 sexual assault charges involving andrea, the trial set to begin in june, so a few things are going to happen here, the judge could grant or deny motions to deny a case out of the county or the judge could have a jury brought in from another county. when i come back, we'll update you on what's going on inside the courtroom right now, and

we'll also let you know what else cosby said to reporters on the way in. reporting live now at the montgomery county courthouse, nbc 10 news. >> pam, thank you. meanwhile, police continue to look for clues about who vandalized a jewish cemetery in northeast philadelphia. leaders of several faiths come together today to express outrage at the crime. nbc 10 george spencer is live for us with an update. george, we heard the mayor about all this. tell us more. >> reporter: yeah, vai, this morning. the mayor condemned the vandalism in strong terms and spoke out about the enflamed national environment that he believes, quote, empowered and emboldened bigotry. family members are checking out grave sites, but it comes as police are working to turn up any leads in this case. take a look at what sky force 10 captured overhead this morning. investigators got the calls on

vandalism yesterday morning, believing it occurred sometime saturday night. upwards of a hundred headstones toppled, some broken. a similar accident happened in st. louis a week ago with stones toppled there. police are not able to identify a specific motive for this crime or a suspect. the mayor worries that a national environment of bigotry has grown more enflamed in recent days. >> bigotry and hatred will never go away, but it's the government's responsibility to tamp it down and arrest and convict and imprison those who exhibit it, and if we let it go on and on and on, we spiral down a slope of hatred. we can't go there. >> reporter: back to the live pictures. you can see a pretty substantial fence along this side of the cemetery, but that is not the case in many other spots and edges of the cemetery, the fences are shorter, could be climbed. the cemetery's manager confirmed

in the past hour this is an older cemetery, only about one or two burials here last year. that also mean, though, that there are no security cameras and certainly no guards keeping watch here, clearly, making the police investigative job into this vandalism that much harder. that is the latest live this morning, george spencer, nbc 10 news. george, thank you, breaking news just in, we learned that jcc's jewish community centers have evacuated this morning. we're working to get more details on this. sky force 10 is on its way. this all comes as we see a recent wave of antisemitic crimes and threats across our country. more than ten jewish community centers evacwaited last week due to bomb threats. last week, 80 stones toppled, some broken at this jewish cemetery outside of st. louis referenced in the last story. this morning, the st. louis

jewish community pledges support to the philadelphia counterparts. we have reaction to the vandalism and updates on the investigation. get our continuing coverage now on the nbc 10 app. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> and the warmer weather's making a comeback. here's a live look at the ben franklin parkway now in philadelphia where temperatures are expected to hit the 50s today, and they'll climb as the week moves along. nbc 10's meteorologist is here with the most accurate forecast in the region. >> yes. some of us now made it into the 50s, just made it into the 50s, philadelphia, mount holly, and northwest philly. the rest of us are climbing and closer, 45 in allentown, trenton at 47, and millville at 49 degrees. this afternoon, mid-50s for highs over the southern parts of

the viewing area. then, as mentioned, temperatures climb in the days to come. we're talking 70s again in that extended forecast. here's a look at radar and satellite for today, though. clouds have been increasing throughout your morning hours. this is going to continue into the afternoon, and, in fact, by this afternoon, we'll be mostly cloudy over much of the area. that's not going to stop us, though, from seeing temperatures well warmer than average. warmer than average right now in philly. we should be in the upper 40s, but we're in the 50s. capping in the mid-50s. by 5:00 p.m., we slope back down, 54 the temperature to expect, and notice winds. yesterday, we were windy. we're seeing that we're going to still have those windy conditions holding on to the forecast as we go through today. more on the breezy side, gusts at 25 miles per hour expected, otherwise, this is the pretty mild day. the focus is going to be on the climb. yesterday, we were at 46. today, 56. tomorrow, mid-60s, and,

wednesday, 73 degrees for your forecast high temperature. the problem here is we bring moisture back in tuesday, wednesday, a recipe for more thunderstorms. we'll talk about that more closely coming up. >> thank you. home and property owners are assessing damage caused by high winds saturday evening. it ripped off the roof of homes and silos and flipped a 5 ton semitruck on its side. there it is. national weather service said straight line winds up to 95 miles per hour, not a tornado, tore across the area. and we have breaking news in cherry hill. we mentioned minutes ago, two jewish community centers evacuated because of threats. sky force 10 is live over the jcc in cherry hill. wilmington e evacuated.

there's threats around the nation against jewish community centers as well as gravestones toppled at cemeteries that we've shown you in the last five minutes or so in philadelphia and outside of st. louis, which we, yeah, mentioned minutes ago. meanwhile, police in dover are in mourning remembering two offduty officers killed in a weekend car crash. patrolmen robert defonte with the department for two years, and cadet watt served for six months. watts was in the passenger seat. their car hit a sharp curve and then hit a utility pole. funeral arrangements are not yet complete. the medical examiner's running dna tests on a human leg found in national park. a woman walking her dog along the delaware river discovered the body part yesterday. they believe it washed up from the river. they said there was no clothing or markings and no other body

parts found. 11:09, time for a check on the roads with our first alert traffic reporter, what are you seeing? >> we are starting on the expressway. this morning, we had a nasty multivehicle accident causing quite a scene on eastbound side. right now, driving conditions returning back to normal with the travel speeds in the 50s and 60s. we are looking at an accident in lower merion. so far, passable. it's not affecting traffic, but be mindful traveling out and about. we have a debris spill in abington, creating hazardous road conditions. let's look one more time at 95 conditions. everything's back to normal. look at the average speeds, folks, back in the 50s and 60s. southbound in the green, and northbound good to go at 13 minutes. back to you. >> thank you. big week ahead in washington. president trump meets with the nation's governors ahead of his speech before congress tomorrow

happening today, president trump is meeting this morning with the nation's governors in washington to discuss a range of issues. this, as the white house says the president's upcoming budget will ask for $54 billion increase in defense spending. >> defense spending increase will be offset and paid for by finding greater savings and efficiencies across the federal government. we're going to do more with less. >> as president trump gets set to address congress tomorrow night, a former president is speaking out about the investigation into the trump team's possible contact with russia. nbc 10 national correspondent has more from washington, d.c. >> on the today's show, former president george w. bush defended a free press. >> it's hard to, you know, tell others to have an independent free press and we're not willing

universe in 2015, miss universe said, have your people call our people. we know what to do. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> cape may, new jersey with clouds out there, but it's a dry day, remaining a dry day today. we are not expecting showers, but we are looking at winds increasing in the afternoon and keeping with the cloud cover. temperatures climbing yet again. warmer than average. in fact, already warmer than average, and we have a few more hours of heating to go. we're 50. 49 degrees in chestnut hill, and fox chase sitting at 52 for the current readings. these numbers only dip yesterday, for your sunday, back to seasonal averages. now we're on the climb again to the 70s. not today. today staying in the 50s.

radar and satellite shows us the blanket of clouds moving forward. there's a return on radar. those light greens, that was nothing making it to the surface, that's just some of the moisture in the clouds that are starting to build in. that continues to increase into the afternoon, so we have mostly cloudy conditions the rest of the day. here's a look at the forecast highs, though. not bad. we should see temperatures this time of year in the philadelphia area, average, mid to upper 40s. well, we got 56, center city, 57 summerton, and lehigh valley in the mid 50s as well. allentown at 54 degrees. new jersey, 56 for trenton, hammonton 57 degrees. cooler at the shore as we are used to from the cooler ocean air keeps temperatures down a tad. but you go inland, and temperature boosts up more. in delaware, up to 58. forecast high 56 degrees in wilmington. the hour by hour forecast, today, dry. we got the clouds, but no rain

that passes through the area. there could be a sprinkle in the poconos at 7:00 p.m., otherwise, it's just clouds overnight and into tuesday, 8:00 a.m. earlier, sprinkles tried to get through the early morning hours for your tuesday, but notice, now, models pulled back on that. there is a slight chance of rain, but we see clouds throughout the day tuesday. overnights into wednesday, we have a round of rain that could have a few pocket of stronger storms, but the focus of thunderstorm development, that's with the warmest temperatures, wednesday, starting at 12:30 into the afternoon, the deeper greens, yellows, and oranges, potential for thunderstorms again in our forecast. we have spring temperatures. you get spring-like weather. 56 today to 65 on your tuesday. wednesday, up to 73 degrees for your forecast high with potential for some scattered thunderstorms. we'll be windy wednesday into thursday as well, and we cool down behind the passing system. 50 on thursday and 40s friday

family. the authors of the novel are here with us this morning. thank you, ladies, for being here. what an interesting topic. tell us about the book and how true it is to life. >> okay. so it really came from the kernel of our real lives that we lived when our kids were very little on the same small center city street, and took care of each other's kids, the kids grew up together, they ate meals together all the time, and played together on the street, and just this idea of how important those neighbors are when you're raising a family. we spent a lot of time out there watching them play, taking care of them, and thought, how wonderful it would be to think about taking this to the next level, what can you do? that is sort of where the kernel of the fiction came from. we explore that in the book. in the book, the three families who live on a small center city street decide to take down the walls and live communely and

raise kids together and raise families together. >> wow. a lot of people who grow up in philadelphia talk about being in a neighborhood where neighbors who discipline you if you saw you doing something dumb or stupid, like before you got home, the neighbor would take care of the disciplining. you got home, and they got it more from mom and dad. is it like this in a lot -- this is not unusual here in the city. >> well, no. i mean, philadelphia is -- there's so many wonderful small streets where people do live like that, and we just thought that this idea, taking it, and sort of fictionalizing it and taking it to the next level really would be interesting to a lot of people who live, whether it's in small city streets, an apartment building, or cad sack, whatever, but, yeah, that's what happens when your kids are young. you need all the help you can get. >> raising, you know, having a village raise a child. >> exactly. >> we appreciate you so much coming in and telling us about

nbc 10 breaking news. we are following breaking news against local jewish community centers. we are live right now over the jcc in wilmington, which has been evacuated. cherry hill has also been evacuated. both received bomb threats. jccs around the country are getting new threats this morning according to nbc news. it's part of a wave of hate and anti-semitism being seen nationwide. pennsylvania governor, tom wolf, released a statement about the threats, saying state police and office of homeland security will offer full resources towards protecting jewish institutions and finding the culprits. meanwhile, new development this morning in the bill cosby case. he's fighting to get his sexual assault case moved out of montgomery county.

nbc 10 is live outside the courthouse in norristown with new information. pam, tell us what it is. >> reporter: lawyers on both sides of the case are in agreement here agreeing the jury should not come from montgomery county. that was cosby on the way in saying, oh, boy, there was a 20 minute recess, but before court broke, we know that the defense of the fighting to get the case moved to another county all together. cosby's team acknowledged the unusual request, but say the case and jury should be moved to either philadelphia county or alleghany county in pittsburgh. any potential local jurors have seen an heard too much negative press about the case about the 2004 sexual assault charges he's facing. the trial set to start in june. the judge could grant or deny motion to move the case out of the county or the judge could have a jury brought in from another county.

i expect mid-50s by later this afternoon. we are seeing clouds spread across the area right now, so you just saw the live look outside. the stadium had a gray look. that continues the rest of today. here's the time line. 1:00, cloudy, mostly cloudy, 54 degrees and cap in the mid 50s at 56, dropping 5:00 p.m. to 54 and partly cloudy conditions throughout the night. staying dry in the suburbs and lehigh valley with temperatures at 50 degrees by 5:00 p.m. new jersey, delaware, and the shore goes from low mid-50s at 1:00 to the same at 5:00 p.m. again, capping in the mid-50s today with mostly cloudy conditions and dropping off into the 40s as we go into the overnight hours. we're tracking 70s, though, on the extended forecast. i'll let you know when those hit coming up. all right, thank you. police say the man who plowed into a crowd of people celebrating at a new orleans mardi gras parade was drunk behind the wheel.

police say the 25-year-old had a blood alcohol level of near three times the legal limit. he's facing several charges related to causing serious injuries with a vehicle and hit-an-run. >> i heard the impact over here, seen the truck hitting the people on the ground, coming through the crowd. >> 28 people were hurt. city and state officials say quick action by first responders and the public helped during the chaos and the confusion. japanese auto parts maker, takata, expected to plead guilty today to air bag problems, a defect linked to 16 deaths and more than 100 injuries. they are expected to agree to a $1 billion penalty for trying to hide the problem. pediatricians beef up warnings about marijuana and potential harm it can do to teens. the american academy of paid with the tricks said parents are taking a relaxed approach to the drug because states are easing

tax return is if you're getting a tax return, can you save that entire check? you need to review that during the year to see if you're going to owe uncle sam money, and if you get a a large tax return, do you really need that during the year rather than to save that $5,000 and get a return later? $5,000 during the year might be more helpful. >> very nice. i also saw a blush in the paper today that said if you owe more than $50,000, uncle sam's going to0keep your -- you won't be able to travel. passports will be taken from you. also, encouraging people to save for emergencies. >> right. >> tell us more about that. >> if a lot of people -- they are living paycheck to paycheck, and if you have a car, you do need to have maintenance on that car, for example. if you need, you know, this winter's been pretty brutal in terms of pot holes, so if you don't have the money for $500 car repair, you'll be behind the

threats this morning according to nbc news. it's all part of a wave of hate and anti-semitism seen nationwide. let's begin by talking temperatures out there because the warmup is on again. we have been on the roller coaster of temperatures for weeks now. it's another up on the ride. we're looking at 50s in the new jersey neighborhood. the 40s like washington township and kyles grove, almost in the 50s there. mount laurel at 54 degrees already. as we track further north, robinsville at 50, princeton 50, and 51 many hopewell township. a lot of 50s on the map. delaware is the same. newark at 49 degrees. drop further south, and there they are, 55 lincoln, looking at 54 and upper 40s due to, again,

we continue to follow breaking news involving threats against local jewish community centers. jccs in pennsylvania and delaware and new jersey have all received threats. many evacuated. we're still trying to determine

if jcc in wynnwood received a threat, a wave of threats made this morning in jewish centers around the nation. we'll have more this afternoon on nbc 10 news at 4:00 p.m. also breaking now, a judge in montgomery county decided to bring in an outside jury to hear the bill cosby case, but the case itself will actually not be moved out of the county. it will be up to the state's supreme court to decide what the county, or what county rather, the jury comes from. the jury will be sequestered. the case is set to start on june 5th. we have a tifinal look at the weather. >> we are seeing the warm with the temperatures, some spots in the 50s, a cloudy day, but we are looking at the 70s returning again as we stretch through the workweek. look at the temperatures climbing. so we just saw this a moment ago, 56 in philadelphia, 65
