what he told us about the new allegations against his brother and the alleged abuse he suffered at the hands of his father. healing through hair. how these two boys are teaching the adults in their lives a very important lesson. >> one, two, three! >> watch the hole! >> put it down easy. >> look at that, neighbors helping neighbors tonight. check out this scene in kensington. our cameras were there as that group lifted this car from a hole in the street. neighbors called nbc 10 because they were concerned about this very thing. now the city is taking action. nbc 10's brandon hudson is joining us live with the story you will see only on 10. brandon, you reached out to the water department for answers and then they showed up. >> reporter: erin and jim, it was an incredible thing, the water department left about 15 minutes ago, not before covering this hole which is about four to five feet wide and nine feet deep. they also blocked this part of the street from frankford avenue

to coral street. now, a concerned viewer called our station, we called the city and before the city crew got out here, this hole caused some problems for drivers, but also brought the neighborhood together. >> one, two, three. >> watch the hole! >> reporter: you're seeing an example of why philadelphia is called the city of brotherly love. a group of neighbors helped michael fark after his car was stuck in a hole in the middle of east clearfield street in kensington. it took several tries. >> one, two, three. >> reporter: but the neighbors succeeded? >> thank y'all so much man. >> this is what we do! >> it looked like a normal pothole i thought i could get over and i couldn't. >> another driver wasn't so lucky. we heard one driver's tire explode after going over the hole. that person kept going. that happened after a neighbor

put a cone to guard it. >> you can see through it. there's a crack going all the way across the street. >> reporter: yvette pena called nbc 10 about the hole. pena said the street collapsed around noon today. >> it makes me nervous just to stand here. >> reporter: pena told us her concern was for drivers and the children in the neighborhood. after we spoke to her, we called the philadelphia water department which came to check it out. moments later a crew closed part of east clearfield street. neighbors say east clearfield street is usually a busy street. we'll see how this impacts traffic tomorrow morning. they also told us the water department will be out here tomorrow to independent this hole and find out how this part of the street collapsed. reporting live from kensington, brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. >> nice to see people coming together, though, in the midst of that. brandon, thank you. now to u.s. attorney general jeff sessions. he is removing himself from any federal investigation into alleged russian involvement in the presidential campaign. >> his recusal comes amid

reports that sessions had a meeting in his senate office that he didn't mention during his senate confirmation hearing. today sessions was adamant he didn't mislead anyone and insisted he had no improper contacts with the russians. >> the idea that i was part of a "continuing exchange of information during the campaign between trump surrogates and intermediaries for the russian government" is totally false. >> democrats are demanding sessions resign. president trump is standing by sessions, calling him an honest man who didn't say anything wrong. in a statement tonight, the president said in part "the democrats are overplaying their hand. they lost the election reality." earli earlier, the president pledged to boost defense spending as he toured the navy's most expensive warship. he donned a navy flight jacket for his visit with sailors and ship builders aboard the uss "gerald r. ford."

mr. trump used the visit to highlight his plan to add $54 billion to the department budget. >> this carrier and the new ships will expand the ability of our nation to carry out vital missions on the oceans to project american powers in distant lands. >> the "gerald ford" is expected to begin active service this year. two former presidential candidates are part of the trump administration. rick perry was confirmed as the next secretary of energy and they confirmed dr. ben carson as head of the department of housing and urban development. both were sworn in. cooling down, nbc 10 in philadelphia's fishtown neighborhood. people were out at the popular frankford and gerard intersection. >> the wind will pick up again and that will make it feel colder. you ready for this? >> no.

>> chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz has the latest. >> we have wind. that will increase once the sun comes up tomorrow and add to the chill, bring in colder air. right now we're in the 30s across much of the area, 25 in mt. pocono but look at the way it feels. it's feeling like 24 in coatesville already. 27 in allentown. 13 in mt. pocono. so it's getting cold and it's going to be getting colder as we go to 6:00 a.m., feeling like about 24 degrees in philadelphia, of course colder in many of the suburbs and look at this, doesn't warm up a whole lot during the day. the other thing that happens is we've got snow flurries in ohio moving into pennsylvania and we could see a little bout of them for a while during the day tomorrow. how cold it will get and feel, when the coldness will be and

when we get out dhof this in a w minutes. shining a light. tonight communities are coming together. >> they say acts of hate happening around the country cannot be ignored any longer. nbc 10's drew smith shows us how they're taking a stand. >> these streets are a place of love and acceptance. >> reporter: it was a chilly night in doylestown's main square to spread a message of warmth and light. >> it's very encouraging. i know people are worried and it bothers them to see what's going on. >> reporter: this was one of the areas targeted by kkk recruiting literature last month. then this week there was the vandalism of jewish graves in philadelphia. we spoke to this woman and her sister who say they've experienced discrimination. >> i wanted to not have another person go through that in the future because i it's impacted me so much. >> tonight they're sending a message. >> it shows we're united together here when others are trying to separate us. >> reporter: this is one of several gatherings happening across our area from here in the

suburbs to the city. people thought it was important to come out and stand together with their neighbors. earlier, thousands rallied on independence mall along with top city and state leaders. in burlington county there was an interfaith prayer service preaching against intolerance and discrimination. ♪ i'm gonna let it shine >> reporter: a common theme links them all. >> it's not just one person's problem, it's everybody's problem. we have to unite together and be one. >> reporter: a decision to make themselves visible and be part of a solution. drew smith, nbc 10 news. a $5,000 reward is out for about 2,000 guns taken outside a gun store that happened on february 23. authorities are concerned the guns could end up in the hands of violent criminals. tonight in berkshire hathaway cou-- berks county a

reverend is facing charges in the death of a two-year-old girl. her parents denied her medical treatment. reverend roland foster is accused of failure to report child abuse. according to state law, according to clergy he is considered a mandatory reporter of child abuse, if you know about abuse you must report it. this comes after two-year-old leal graves died of pneumonia back in november. ella's parents, jonathan and grace foster are charged with involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment. they say their faith forbids any kind of medical treatment. the recent death of a detective is prompting change at the upper dublin police department, specifically how evidence will be handled. an investigation following the officer's suicide revealing a missing stash of evidence including drugs and cash. they say the detective had been stealing the items from the police evidence room to fuel his hidden drug addiction. a new security system will be installed with cameras. there will be multiple people involved in cataloging evidence.

tonight we're learning more about philadelphia mayor jim kenney's multibillion dollar budget for the city is. >> the mayor's spending plan is roughly $4.4 billion. he's calling for hiring additional firefighters and paramedics and adding funds to fight the opioid and heroin epidemic. the budget calls for construction of housing units for the homeless. >> a part of that budget is this proposed 11-acre park that will connect the city with the delaware waterfront. mayor kenney says it will cost around $225 million. the city expected to pay $90 million. nbc 10 has confirmed penndot will contribute $100 million and the william penn foundation pledged an additional $15 million. mayor kenney says philadelphia is facing uncertainty because it depends on washington and harrisburg. state and federal funding could be in jeopardy because of the city's sanctuary status. police in sanctuary cities don't cooperate with immigration enforcement officials in cases involving undocumented citizens

who haven't committed a felony. the controversial philadelphia soda tax is facing uncertainty tonight. that tax still tied up in a court challenge and even sparked this protest today after pepsi announced layoffs. the city collected double what it expected from the tax in january. the newest supermarket in philadelphia has a section with drinks that will not be subject to the soda tax. this fresh grocer opened up off city line avenue in winfield heights. the new store will sell beer and wine along with kosher and organic foods. the store boasts 200 new jobs for the area. catholics supposed to give up meat on fridays during lent. >> but this year the church is making an exception. find out when and why next at 11:00. i'll show you the coldest weekend we've had in months. i'm a drug addict. an alcoholic, that's what i am.

the sandusky family has been torn apart by allegations of child sex abuse. first jerry sandusky and now his son jeffrey. but they're not the only family members affected. matthew sandusky has watched his father and brother face charges and says he was a victim himself. >> tonight he shared his story with students at stockton university. nbc 10's aundrea cline-thomas has more on his mission to protect others. >> reporter: the crowd in stockton university's campus theater sat silently as matthew

sandusky shared his story of abuse. >> i decided that i needed to disclose. >> reporter: first the alleged physical abuse by his biological father then his adopted father, convicted child molester jerry sandusky. matthew first came forward in an unexpected admission during jerry sandusky's trial. >> everything i've been through i wouldn't change. it's made me who i am, it's given me this opportunity and brought know this moment. >> reporter: matthew sandusky speaks to groups around the country. each time it helps his healing. sandusky started a foundation to help other survivors do the same. >> he never mentioned his perpetrator's name. never described exactly what happened. i just imagine how terrible it must be. >> since coming forward, matthew says he's been cut off from the rest of the sandusky family, including his brother jeffrey who was arrested last month on child sex abuse charges. >> as it relates to jeffrey, i hope as a perpetrator that the law -- he is prosecuted and gets the fullest extent of the law

thrown at him. >> reporter: matthew says his focus is on protecting children and hopes they don't have to endure his pain. it seems like you're being the adult that you wish you had in your life. >> yeah, i mean, absolutely. i think that's -- again, even having my own children is -- it's really just -- to them i want to be the father that i never had. >> reporter: aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. tonight south jersey has a new drug treatment recovery center and there's a personal connection between the new facility and governor chris christie. the governor was on hand to open the victory bay outpatient facility. he was joined by a.j. salman, a friend of the governor and a heroin addict. he's the son of a supreme court judge and a b.p.u. commissioner. he says the governor's support helped him co-found and open victory bay. >> he implemented things to fix issues that were in new jersey.

include the wind. this is going to be the coldest week end in two months since the first weekend of january. it's been a pretty mild winter, hasn't it? gusts to 40 miles an hour friday and saturday. that's going to make it four straight days of gusty winds. possible flurries during the day tomorrow especially in the afternoon but they'll move fast and will melt as it hits. as we go through the night tonight, the feels-like temperatures start go down toward the teens but that's just the beginning, during the day tomorrow it doesn't warm up much. feels like in the 20s across much of the area. then as we go into tomorrow night now it's feeling like teens again, headed out tomorrow night? you'll need the winter coat, that's wintertime. and after the 70s from yesterday, that's quite a chill and feeling like 9 by saturday morning in allentown and sometimes even colder than that. saturday afternoon in the

afternoon it's only feeling like it's in the teens then saturday night feeling colder again, back down to the single digits. so yeah, this is a cold weekend. we've got some snow flurries moving in from the west. doesn't look like they're going to amount to a whole lot as you can see here, we go through the futurecast hour by hour. they just race through the area and so not really going to amount to very much. that's the windy symbol for tomorrow. these are the low and high temperatures and it's way below normal and way below what we saw recently, 11 degrees for the temperature in the lehigh valley on sunday morning. we'll start to warm up next week. >> all right, glenn. two five-year-olds wanted to pull a prank on their teacher. >> but they taught the adults around them a beautiful lesson. see how it started with a hair cut. that's next.

love this story. two pre-schoolers united in friendship thought they had the perfect prank. >> jackson rosebush is 4, his best friend ready weldon is five. one is white, the other is black. the pre-schoolers don't see color. they wanted to play a trick on their teacher to make it hard for them to tell them apart. jackson figured the only thing separating them was their hair so he fixed that to get his hair cut to match his friend. >> jackson -- i'm jackson. >> it's cool to see that move on from our family into his relationships with his friends. there's an innocent that children have that sometimes we lose and so if we could get some of that back i think it would be amazing. >> could they get any closer right there? as for the boy's teacher, she went on with the trick much to the delight of the boys.
