what this young boy did that saved his mother's life and the important lesson that could help all families. >> "nbc10 news" starts now. right now at 11:00, bullet holes and shattered glass. the damage to the school bus is just the beginning of a wild shoot-out. good evening, i'm jim rosenfield. >> i'm erin coleman. four men opened fire in the middle of a knights town street. the bullets hit one man and this bus. >> brandon hudson has details on the shooting tonight. when we first heard school bus hit this afternoon, we pictured full of students. fortunately, that wasn't the case. >> reporter: it wasn't the case. there were three people on board the bus. tonight police looking at surveillance video to get leads in this case. a chief inspector told me it's amazing 42 shots were fired and no one seriously hurt. the eight bullet holes and shattered glass from the bus tell the story of a ride three

women won't forget. philadelphia police say the bus was caught in the crossfire of four men who fired 42 shots at the intersection of north 19th street. two adults and a 1-year-old were on board. >> all three of those females luckily and fir callusly were not injured. >> reporter: they say this bus was hit about the three blocks down the street but the driver kept going. you can see the trail of shattered glass leading up to the door where the driver was sitting. >> detectives found three projectiles inside of the bus. >> reporter: while the women walked away, police say a 58-year-old man standing at the intersection was hit in the ear. at this point, police don't believe he was the target. >> it's terrible. >> reporter: marie may has lived in this section most of her life. she's not surprised. >> it's just so sad. i mean, just day after day. the same old thing. >> reporter: the police crime report website reveals 50 violent crimes in the past three

months within a mile radius of the shooting. it's a breakdown of assaults with deadly weapons, robberies sex assaults in a neighbor where may sees children playing all the time. >> it is dangerous for the children. can they think of them? >> reporter: police say that they believe the man who was the victim was talking to the person who was supposed to be the target. reporting live at police headquarters, brandon hudson, "nbc10 news." new at 11:00, a deadly hit and run crash in pottstown, montgomery county. two cars hit a man walking near shoemaker road. we're told the victim was pinned under one of those cars and died. the driver of that car stayed to talk to police, but the other driver took off. lis are n >> winter made its return today with the cold and the snow. take a look at the flurries we spotted across the area this afternoon. >> those flurries moved fast. we sped up the video from our

bridge. engineers say good weather helped speed up the work and it could reopen by early april. it was shut down back in january when painters found cracks in its base. a rash of armed cell phone store robberies in the lehigh valley. police arrested two people in connection with the crime tonight. the arrests are the result of a new task force. it was formed after recent robberies in pennsylvania and new jersey. police say there could be more arrests. new jersey governor chris christie is vowing to keep religious facilities safe across the state. his assurances follow a wave of threats against jewish community centers here and around the country. he promised additional patrols and there's now a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to convictions. the man police accusing of making threats to at least eight of those institutions. juan thompson appeared before a judge today in st. louis. police believe he's a copycat who made the threats to harass an ex-girlfriend.

tonight, new details on the controversy involving attorney general jeff sessions and his contacts with the russian ambassador to the u.s. sessions plans to release an amended testimony on monday about contacts made during the presidential campaign. a justice department spokesman says the attorney general will also respond to questions raised by democratic senators. sessions recused himself yesterday from any investigation that looks into the communications between president trump's aides and moscow. >> philadelphia school officials and city leaders gathered to show support for transgender students. transgender students and their families met at city hall. they talked about the trump administration's decision to roll back protections that allowed students to use restrooms matching their gender identities. one mother tells nbc10, she's encouraged by tonight's show of support. >> policies and laws and rights are all one thing, but i think there's so much negativity going around right now and there's so

today's snow caused a big mess on roads across pennsylvania. take a look at the scene in state college. two accidents involving more than 40 cars shut down part of i-99. the road is back open tonight. a snow squall also to blame for this pile-up on i-811234 schuylkill county. several people were hurt and taken to hospital. witnesses say cars began spinning out and slamming flow one other. still shut down in both directions in that area. disney is facing a boycott of its new version of "beauty and the beast." a theater net alabama says it

potstown. 8 in burlington county. by 6:00 a.m. sunday, that is when it's going to be about the coldest. just about everybody's in the single digits. 5 degrees doils town, allentown, potts town, west chester. 4 in trenton. 7 in philadelphia. now, sunday will not be as windy as saturday. so by sunday afternoon, the feels like temperatures start actually to go up over 20. and in a couple of places, near 30. and that's just the beginning of the warmup. look at this between sunday's 37, monday 53. these are the low temperatures now sunday morning. not the feels like temperatures. the actual temperature. pa suburbs 13 going up to 37. that's the windy symbol, by the way. gusts to 40 miles an hour during the day tomorrow. and then in lehigh valley down to 7 degrees. sunday morning. but then into the 50s by monday.
