administration officials and are trying to find out exactly the latest and what has happened. but this is shaping up to be another busy weekend for the president. president trump touching down in florida for another working weekend. >> it is not rest at the southern white house, it's all work. >> making the short trip from his mar-a-lago estate to the swanky four season, meeting with wealthy republican donors. in public, trying to turn the tables on democrats, tweeting this picture of nancy pelosi meeting with the russian ambassador after she claimed she hadn't. and in one of chuck schumer at a gas station with vladimir putin. for the record, schumer tweeted, they were krispy kreme donuts. the democrats arguing their meetings were out in the open while president trump's associates' meetings were secret. the latest former trump former policy adviser carter page who once said he had never met with the russian ambassador. this week -- >> did you meet sergey kislyak

president trump posted. i bet a good lawyer could make a case out of the fact that president obama was tapping my phones just prior to the election. we dismiss a lot of his tweets as silly or ridiculous. but this is a bold assertion. and it looks like this is going to be something that he continues to do throughout the day. what's he thinking? >> i think that he clearly is upset over all of the talk about his administration's ties with russia. and he's trying to turn the conversation by labelling people who are questioning these administration ties with russia, and the administration contacts, into the nixon. he hastened the comparison to nixon. so now everyone is doing that to him. they are rex nisant of nixon. >> he's trying to change the subject? >> exactly, by trying to prosecute obama and questioning surveillance powers that went through the fisa court. so this is not new information. we no that the intercepts

between members of the trump campaign and russian officials, that under our nsa wire-tapping program, that those transcripts are available, that that meta data is available. this is not new information. but he is clearly trying to take the offensive this morning. >> let's put this into context. it's been quite a week. it started out to me on a positive note. he had his joint address to congress. and then came this drip, drip, drip as you were talking about with these russian allegations. in fact take a look at this screen here. we talk about the fact that five advisers during the trump campaign had meetings with russian officials before the inauguration. you have jeff sessions, michael flynn, jared kushner, carter page, j.d. gordon. there's a lot of smoke here, but is there any fire? and where do you see all of this going? >> well i like that comparison of a drip drip drip. now the faucet is running full and it's going and it's not going to stop. that's the problem with president trump rejecting any

kind of investigation. if they were just forthright, we have nothing to hide. we were talking to russian diplomat counterparts, this could go away, if that is in fact what happened. by looking like they're covering up something. the fact that all of these advisers have changed their stories so many times, it's just a cloud of suspicion that it really is going to dog his presidency for at least the first two years as the investigation continues. >> let's talk about the gallup poll that came out yesterday. we are roughly 50 days into the trump administration. his disapproval numbers just north of 50%. they continue to be among the lowest of any president at this point in their administration in modern history. numbers like that, what do they do to the administration's ability to advance their agenda? >> well i actually think it's been a little overblown right now about his low approval ratings, i think it's so early and also in a lot of the polls you can see a significant portion of voters who might have

voted for president trump just to oppose hillary clinton and they're satisfied with his policies. they may not like his personality and the way he's behaving but they're hopeful about what his policies are going to be. if he could control his personality, such as maybe not going on a tweet storm about sensitive national security issues that are plaguing his administration, perhaps he would be doing better in those approval ratings. >> or accusing a former president of tapping his phones. >> i'm sorry, going into conspiratorial territory that makes me wonder what's in president trump's mind. >> let's get to the brutally cold temperatures gripping the east coast this morning after our warm winter, it's a rude awakening today. indira is in for us. >> it's been pretty unbelievable, right. that's the case. winter is hardly behind us just yet. here's proof of that. just take a look at the video out of pennsylvania, more than 30 vehicles were involved in this massive pile-up on friday in whiteout conditions.

three people air-lifted to nearby hospitals, no reported deaths at this time. so yeah, it's early march, we typically would be looking at very cold air as you can see the maps right now. all the cold air making its way in from canada. what's not normal is what we've been feeling. it's been this huge flip-flop, everyone's words have been how weird is this. look at the temperatures we saw just on wednesday in new york. 70 degrees, it was humid, people were in t-shirts, it was sticky outside. temperatures about 35 degrees above normal and look at the difference this morning. >> we'll get your national forecast in just a moment. there's a small amount of relief being felt among the jewish community this morning. after an arrest was made in relation to a stripping of threats made against houses of worship. nbc's morgan raffert is here with more. >> juan thompson's arrest is the first in connection with a rash of threats made against jewish community centers in 36 states.

prosecutors paint a picture of a disturbed man and a scorned lover who went to great lengths to get back at his ex-girlfriend. in some cases saying she planted the bombs. and others, using his own name. after months of bomb threats, leaving jewish communities on high alert -- >> this is something that puts everybody on edge. >> the fbi says 31-year-old juan thompson of st. louis, missouri, made at least heat of those threats, his arrest coming as a relief and sobering reminder of a threat that still lurks. >> just because there's been an arrest today around our bomb threat does not mean that the threats have disappeared or will stop. >> according to the fbi, thompson was a copycat making those threats to get back at an ex-girlfriend after they broke up last july. through a series of emails and phone calls, authorities say thompson said his ex was behind the bomb threats against the jews. and that she placed bombs in dallas, san diego, and at the

anti-defamation league's new york headquarters. the he allegedly also made threats under his own name at schools and museums in new york and detroit. but later claimed the ex had made them. to set him up. thompson appeared in a st. louis federal court friday afternoon charged with one count of cyberstalking. his mother, telling nbc he is a good man. but thompson has a colorful past. seen here, working for an online news site called the intercept, which fired him last year for allegedly making up sources and quotes. prosecutors also cite comments allegedly posted from his twitter account just last week. saying know any good lawyers? need to stop this nasty racist white girl i date who had sent a bomb threat in my name. thompson's arrest comes as more than 100 bomb threats have been made against jewish organization ace cross 36 states since the beginning of the year. prompting rallies of solidarity to support jewish communities. >> if someone wants to try to instill fear that we are people

that stand up and inspire courage. >> leaders who say hate should never be met with silence. >> thompson did not enter a plea at his arraignment and is not suspected in most of the other threats, which are still under investigation. meanwhile, states like new jersey have beefed up security around religious centers, hoping to protect vulnerable communities. chanel, craig? >> morgan, thank you. in tennessee the hunt for a killer continues this morning as the family of a 23-year-old nurse stabbed to death in her own apartment prepares to lay her to rest this morning. nbc's sarah doloff is live with the latest on that. >> in just a few hours family and friends will gather here for tiffany ferguson's funeral. five days after the bright, gifted nurse was killed inside her own home. this morning, teal ribbons dot the home town of tiffany ferguson as those who knew the 23-year-old nurse and twin prepare to say their good-byes.

>> the nicest person i've ever met. i mean that very sincerely. >> ferguson was a nurse at this hospital in nashville. officials there describing her as a rising star. it's a sentiment her fellow nurses, who also counted her as a close friend, share. >> in the toughest of times, she was there to comfort family members, comfort patients. >> she would give you the shirt off her back. >> but on tuesday, that promising career cut short by the man in this security video, who police say was checking for unlocked cars before he allegedly entered the ground-level apartment ferguson shared with friends through an unlocked door. searching for valuables, when he came upon the 23-year-old. and after a confrontation, stabbed her multiple times. >> our detectives are working hard around the clock, we are following leads. we are in the midst of questioning folks. >> according to a search warrant, investigators took

evidence, including fingerprints, dna and carpet samples from the apartment. officials and those who knew ferguson are now asking for the public's help identifying the suspect in the video. to help bring this case to a close. >> they are friends, co-workers, twin sister, older sister, whole family, there's so many questions. and someone out there has answers. and everybody wants answers. >> and authorities stress that at this point, they believe that this was a rare, random act of violence. still, they are encouraging residents to be vigilant and be aware of their surroundings. >> an awful story. thank you. now let's get to other stories making headlines this morning. a pair of armed robbery suspects are in custody after a wild police chase played out on the streets of houston. the hot pursuit began friday when police got a call about a bank robbery. the suspects' car careened through the streets bouncing off cars and losing a tire.

it got even crazier, the smoking wreckage came to a stop in front of carlos warra and his son, jose. the suspect lumped towards carlos in an apparent attempt to carjack him. that's when jose sprung into action, wrestling with the driver until police took him down. carlos says his son is a hero. jose says he was just protecting the man he loves. another wild police chase ended inside new york city's busy lincoln tunnel. new jersey police trying to stop a minivan for a moving violation. the driver led them inside the packed commuter tunnel. three people jumped out of the vehicle while shocked commuters captured it all on cell phones. charges against those occupants have not been hannounced yet. helicopters on friday reached a big part of big sur that's been cut off since mid february. severe rains washed out roads and bridges, 60 families are

getting their first food supply in weeks and more roads are washed out at yosemite park. this damage on state route 120 began as a two-inch crack. now it's more than four feet wide. let's go to indira filling in for dylan while she's on maternity leave. a lot to talk about this morning. >> has it not been the weirdest week weatherwise. i do weather, even i'm confused. we saw 70s, record temperatures on wednesday, now the northeast and many of us with the wind chill this morning, feeling like we're in the single digits, if not below zero. so definitely a huge shift in the northeast. even chicago, i mean you should have seen some snow, now finally a few flurries in your area. nothing much there. down through the southeast we are starting to watch some showers building in through the region. another system in the pacific northwest. we're looking for about one to two inches of rain. a cold system, so the sierra again, another one to three feet of snow will be possible for you. eventually as we get through sunday we'll see the system make its way down through southern

california. the heavy rain could bring some local flooding, not looking again for lots of rain, but short periods of time could see a downburst and eventually the rain will be s meteorologist erika martin with your most accurate forecast. high temperatures for today only in the 30s, below average for this time of the year, but the good news is we have plenty of sunshine. a little bit warmer on sunday and we warm up to kick off the following workweek, it looks like temperatures are going to climb into the upper 40s for the lehigh valley and 50s for everybody else. we may see some scattered showers for lehigh valley, otherwise developing clouds but we will warm up into nicely into the upper 40s and 50s and 60s by tuesday. i'm so spoiled, it was such an a amazing winter that i'm freaking out having to go out. >> tell me about it. thank you. to california now where a smart idea several years ago has made one school very, very rich.

conditions are cold. we have a northwesterly flow of the wind, some arctic air mass moving into place, we're only seeing 30s for today and tomorrow, with he warm up by monday, 50s on monday, 60s by tuesday, looks like we will see some showers and then we pretty much stay out in the 50s, upper 50s wednesday and low 50s for thursday, friday, saturday and the following sunday. let's just get through today and tomorrow. this morning philadelphia police are looking for the gunman who shot up a school bus barely missing three people on board but wounding a man nearby on the ledstreet. the bus was caught in the crossfire in nicetown yesterday, four gunmen were shooting near 19th street. investigators believe that an unarmed man who was wounded in the ear was not the target. police are looking at surveillance video from the neighborhood for leads in the case. today in kent county loved one and comrades will day their final respects to two dover police officers killed in an off duty car crash. a service will be held in dover for patrolman robert dafonte and

cadet james watts. cadet watts was laid to rest yesterday. patrolman dee gone day was in the dover police for two years, cadet watts for six months. dafonte was driving in camden, delaware, when their car veered off of a curve and hit a utility pole. trout season is open in down state delaware. you can go after the big one at tidbury pond and newton pond. anglers of all ages are invited. if you are 16 to 64, though, you will need a license. beer lovers, this one is for you, the philadelphia navy yard is the place to be today. the philly craft beer festival will run from 12:30 to 5:00, just look for the tents outside at the navy yard. tickets will buy you special tastes plus meet and greet with local brewers. you must be 21 or older to attend. we will be back in 25 minutes with another local update.

out. let's start with the breaking news, president trump up early with a series of shocking tweets, accusing former president obama of wire-tapping trump tower. nbc's kasie hunt is following it all. good morning to you. >> craig, sheinelle, good morning, this set of explosive new allegations, president trump over the course of about half an hour this morning, tweeting six times the russia investigation into trump campaign and aides, and potential contacts with the russians, clearly on his mind. he first tweeted -- terrible! just found out that obama had my wires tapped at trump tower just before the victory. nothing found this is mccarthyism. then he again tweets -- how low has president obama gone? to tapping phones during the very sacred election process, this is nixon/watergate. now nbc news has reached out to former obama administration officials to try to get more

details on what they have to say. and president trump often reacts to reports in conservative media outlets. so we're trying to take a look at that. there was a conservative radio host who focused on this issue during his show. and on fox news last night, brett baier asked house speaker paul ryan about whether there were so-called fisa warrants granted to allow the government to look at communications in trump tower. there was "new york times" reporting around this. the house speaker said that he wasn't sure about anything along those lines. although of course we should note that the speaker does get high-level intelligence and is often careful about what he reveals in public. but "the new york times" at one point did report that they, the government officials were allowed to look at a server that was in trump tower. at this point, no definitive reporting on any wire-tapping of phones or listening in on conversations. obviously we are looking into this as much as possible. and it's all taking place as the

house and senate intelligence committees are both investigating what happened between the trump campaign and any potential contacts with the russians. and we know that democrats, particularly are increasingly frustrated that the fbi has not given them more information about any investigation that they may be doing into these contacts. the top democrat on the house intelligence committee saying that he only knows a fraction of what the fbi knows about this. so again, this very rapidly developing story just this morning, craig, sheinelle, an explosive twist here. >> west palm beach, kasie hunt, thank you. let's turn to the dangerously cold weather gripping the east coast. indra is here with more. >> right now it's freezing, i'm sure you guys can see my breath it feels like 11 degrees in new york city. but it's been this huge sling-shot or flip-flop of temperatures, so very cold air has made its way in. look at the arctic cold air

that's made its way in straight from canada. you're seeing the temperatures drop significantly. just on wednesday, we were seeing highs, look at this record-breaking heat. richmond was 81 degrees, new york city was 70. temperatures were a good 35 degrees above normal. and now this is what it feels like. look at that. bangor, with a wind chill, 18 below. seeing single digits towards rochelle. as we turn towards tomorrow, look at the highs today, 15, 22 degrees through the entire weekend. temperatures going to be staying chilly. it's almost hard to talk it's so cold. baltimore, 21 degrees, as we go in through tomorrow morning. the wind chill is going to be feeling like it is 16 degrees. here is the good news, it is not lasting, we've been spoiled. that's going to be returning, d.c., we're looking at temperatures 40 by the time we go through sunday. monday, 58 tuesday. back to 60. sorry that i'm complaining, but

let me tell you shocking when we haven't felt this. 70 degrees a few days ago and almost like your lips are stuck together. >> bone-chilling cold, indra, thank you, we'll get to your national forecast coming up. now to other headlines, a man is in custody today, accused of making bomb threats against jewish community centers, the fbi says juan thompson made the threats to get back at his ex-girlfriend. he was fired last year from the online news site called the intercept for allegedly making up sources and quotes. more than 100 bomb threats have been made against jewish organizations since the beginning of this year. thompson is suspected of at least eight of them. but he's only been charged with one count of cyberstalking. a pair of armed robbery suspects are in custody after a wild police chase played out on the streets of houston. here's the hot pursuit. it started friday when police got a call about a bank robbery. the suspects' car careened through the streets, bounced off

other cars and lost a tire. the smoking wreck comes to a stop in front of a father and son and the car lurched towards the father and the son protects the man he loves. disney's new "beauty and the beast" is stirring up controversy for having a gay character in the story. owners of a drive-in theater refused to show the film. the movie won't be released until march 17th. golfers in florida are getting used to sharing the course with alligators. but even the experienced have not seen anything quite like this. a full-sized gator casually strolling across the 10th fairway with a massive fish clamped in its jaws. you can see it, it happened near tampa earlier this week. the hungry monster doesn't look like he's in any mood to share.

situation there on thursday night at 11:00. our nbc 10 cameras were rolling when it car got stuck in the hole. neighbors rushed to help by lifting the wcar out. we have good news for drivers who take the delaware turnpike bridge, it could open ahead of ú%wschedule. engineers say the nice weather last month helped speed up their work. turnpike officials had to shut down the bridge in january when painters found cracks in the steel support. if you are a beer lover the philadelphia navy yard is the place to be today. the philly craft beer festival will run from 12:30 to 5:00. look for the tents. tickets will buy you special tastes and a meet and greet with area brewers. you must be 21 or older to get in and you will need a valid photo id. i'm rosemary connors, erika and i will be back for a full half hour of news and weather at 9:00.

so good to see you. >> so good to see you, i'm honored to be here. >> what goes into this spicy chicken sandwich. >> we'll start out our chicken by creating a bath for our thighs. we've got eggs in the bowl, i want you to give that a whisk and we're going to use buttermilk because it is a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. the buttermilk is going to tenderize our chicken. we're going to use our favorite kind of hot sauce, whatever you like. >> it feels like spicy chicken or hot chicken is all the rage right now. >> it is, but mine is a little different and i'll show you why. i'm going to add the seasoning mix in here, we have our seasoning blend and we just add a little inside there. now we're going to add our chicken pieces. hello chicken thighs. >> why the thighs? >> this is a boneless chicken thigh. skin on. you can also use skin off. we're using it because it's a dark meat and because it's very tender. you can do it with chicken breasts, but i love the thigh.

we like dark meat in my family. >> how long are we going to keep it in the fridge? >> that gets covered for about 30 minutes, all the way to overnight. you have some that's been marinating already overnight. what we're going to do now is create the dredge. so this is some all-purpose flour, cornstarch and baking powder. >> all three? >> here's the thing, the cornstarch will create this nice crisp texture on our chicken. now what i want you to do, is add about two ladles of some of our liquid marinade. >> to the dredging? >> to the dredging. >> and i added my sizening mix. >> what's in the seasoning mix. i noticed how fast you went there. >> my seasoning mix. >> he just threw that out. >> we're going to take our chicken here it's been marinating. we got some cayenne pepper in there, too. loving it. >> drop it in the pan there, how hot should the pan be? >> about 360 degrees.

meteorologist erika martin has the details and the most accurate forecast in the region. erika. >> rosemary, we do have a blustery day across the entire delaware valley. we're seeing northwesterly winds increase, coatesville current winds at 15 miles per hour, 13 wilmington, 15 allentown and 12 mile per hour wind speeds for philadelphia. not that impressive right now but the cold front as it sweeps on through those wind speeds will start to increase and wind gusts it's all about those feels like temperatures, but actual temperatures right now mt. pocono 15 degrees, allentown 26, pottstown 25 and philadelphia current temperature 28 degrees. again, with those northwesterly winds so how can you plang3?qs day? grab the coat and head on out the door, bundle up. by noon you will only see low 30s so pretty much trending in the low 30s to.ñu upper 20s for parts of the lehigh valley. we're not going to get too warm today and overnight lows are trending in the low teens and some may even see single dig
