are doing it. white house aides continue to support the president's allegations as they call for a congressional hearing. however, they have yet to point to the source of the president's allegations. after six years of promises house republicans finally rolled out their plan to replace obamacare. despite concerns among several senate republicans after reports allege house gop members were working on the plan in secret. speaker paul ryan says he hopes to pass the new replacement bill by easter but he could face head winds in the senate. and while the bills would keep some obamacare features in place they mark drastic changes in other key areas. nbc's evan lawrence joins us now from washington. if you could explain what the changes are, how they'll impact us and where we go from here. >> reporter: frances, right now the debate starts is what's happening. six years of waiting now the republicans plan is rolling out much the same way obamacare did very quickly since it's been introduced. members of congress start debate on the american health care act.

two bills introduced in the house would replace obamacare and keep two popular features of the affordable care act. >> look, we take care of people with preexisting condition. we don't go back to the old days where you could get excluded. >> reporter: insurance companies would be barred for charging more for preexisting condition. it removes the mandate for everyone to have health insurance. the replacement allows kids to stay on their parents' insurance until 26 years old. what's controversial, the current medicaid enrollment for low income americans would be frozen at currentevs. adds the bill moves through the house, senators are watching carefully. >> i would imagine it's going to change a number of times. there are people that have concerns about different provisions of it, but i'm glad there's a bill now so we can begin to analyze that. >> reporter: republicans also want to use tax credits based on age to help people prance inste up front. democrats say this is a bad fit for the american people. >> i suspect americans won't like it much. i suspect it will raise costs and cut benefits.

i suspect far fewer americans will get coverage. >> reporter: house minority leader nancy pelosi is calling the plan make america sick again. the white house applauds the plan, saying in a statement, quote, owe boom a care has proven to be a disaster with fewer options rksz inferior care and skyrocketing costs. frances? >> edward lawrence for us out of washington. thank you. while house republicans were bitz ion their new bill, the president signed his newly retoolds temporary ban and he did so much without fanfare. white house press secretary sean spicer releasing this image solely via twitter. when he signed the controversial order in front of a crush of cameras and supporters, then the president tweeted he had to sign the order quickly avoiding advance notice that would result in a, quote, bad rushing into the country. now a complete reversal. the new executive order won't take effect for another nine days. the president instead enlisted

his secretaries of homeland security, state and attorney general to unveil the revised order without taking questions. it would still bar new visas from six majority muslim countries. it no longer places a blanket ban on syrian refugees trying to enter the united states. still the president's critics pounced when the pro immigration rally held at the white house and press conferences condemning the president's order convened by care, the aclu which says it will file a lawsuit and the attorney general for washington who successfully stopped mr. trump's initial order. the administration and several congressional republicans insist the new order is lawful and would withstand legal challenges. the tsa is rolling out changes to its pat down procedure. airport security had been using several type of pat downs, usually after a person sets off the metal detector. now they are replacing those options with a single universal procedure that they say is more

comprehensive. despite some passengers' complaints, officials insist the new pat down is not more invasive than before. the tsa says the pat downs will still be done by an officer of the same gender and it may still include inspections of sensitive areas such as the breasts, groin, and buttocks. this rule change follows a stunning 2015 homeland security study that says tsa officers failed to detect smuggled weapons in 67 out of 70 attempts. that is a 95% failure rate. now to massive wild fires in texas and florida prompting evacuations as fire fighters struggle to get the blazes under control. mandatory evacuation orders were issued in texas panhandle near a.m. ril owe. a wildfire grew to about 25,000 acres threatening about 150 homes. and in florida, 3500 acres are burning in the strand state forest. the forest service says the blaze is about 30% contained.

though no evacuation orders are in place, some residents are leaving voluntarily. and overnight, there were severe storms passing through the midwest. in kansas city, missouri, lightning storms and torrential rains came down on interstates 35 and 70. causing some flooding and dangerous roads for drivers. and then in topeka, kansas, this. tornado sirens blaring as a storm system strong wind strig erred numerous severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings in the evening. turning now to nbc meteorologist bill karins tracking it all and where we stand this morning, bill? >> the storms are weakening but still doing damage out there. in all we had about 27 tornado reports in total with the wind reports, 263. the worst of the damage was in areas of missouri, especially around the oak grove area. that's where we know we had a tornado that hit, did significant damage. we have at least a dozen injuries in this area. significant damage. the car flipped, roof of the house gone, the roof of this
