winter is making a comeback. we're tracking snow and a dramatic drop in temperatures. jury selection is now underway in the trial of eric frein, who is charged in that deadly ambush in the state police barracks in the poconos. flying the coupe. the fan favorite the philadelphia eagles just released this morning. well, fasten your seat belts. we're in a for a weather roller coaster ride. another day of mild temperatures, but get ready for a big tumble and the arrival of snow as well. here's a look at center city where the winds are already picking up out there. a live look right now at the first alert radar showing the

system that's expected to bring snow to our area. first alert meteorologist erika martin is here to break it all down with your most accurate forecast. hi, erika? >> hi, vai. you see presip moving into parts of northwestern pennsylvania. that's what's due in our area in a few hours. in the meantime, one of the most immediate weather stories would include increasing winds spe. this is what we consider moderate breezes right now, but expect them to increase, especially as another cold front sweeps on through. right now we're behind this first cold front that swept through yesterday. now we can see the increase in those winds and the influence of that colder air. you can see the whites on the screen do telling us we have some winter weather on the way due by tonight and early tomorrow morning.

current temperature, coatesville, 59. philadelphia, 62. wilmington, your current temperature 64 degrees. hour-by-hour forecast. we're going to start this at 11:00 a.m. and pause this later tonight at 11:00 p.m. you're already seeing clouds and a little bit of a mix approaching parts of berks county, upper berks county, and lehigh valley. as temperatures start to drop, especially for the lehigh valley later tonight into the overhonit hours, you're going to see snow move across the delaware valley. we may see 1 to 2 inches on grassy surfaces. keep that in mind. i have some concerns for that early visibility, especially when you're headed out to work and to school tomorrow morning. you can see here by 7:30 a.m. we're still seeing widespread light snow moving from the northwest towards the southeast

there. by 9:30 a.m., we're still not done yet. it does become a lot less organized by 1:00 p.m. h however we're not done. happening now, jury selection is yurunderway in a c that put our entire region on edge. authorities say eric frein killed a pennsylvania state trooper and wounded another before leading police on a 40-day manhunt in the poconos. >> pam, explain what's going on here. >> reporter: yeah, i just stepped out of the courtroom a few moments ago. eric frein came in dressed in a suit and tie. he was wearing glasses. he appeared to be very engaged. he and his attorney were going back and forth and talking amongst themselves before things got started inside of that

courtroom. we're going to show you some file video to get you up to speed. about a half hour ago, his defense and prosecuting attorneys got the first look at the potential jurors in this capital murder case. 300 received summons for today. 104 of them made it through to the next phase of selection, which is happening right now. frein is accused of ambushing two pennsylvania state troopers in september 2014 in their barracks at shift change. one was killed and another critically injured. there was a 40-day manhunt leading to frein's capture, which is why jurors are being selected here. now, this is just day one. we know about 1200 people have received summons, so this process is going to take a little while. that's the very latest here in west chester.

i'm pamela osborne. thank you. in south jersey police in salem county are looking for the driver who slammed his car into this house in pens grons grove. the driver kept going until he crashed. then he ran off. four other people were in the car at the time of the accident. one of them was hurt. those passengers stayed at the scene. the couple who lives in the home were not injured. in delaware, police are looking for whoever shot and killed a man there in wilmington, new castle county. sky force 10 flew over the scene at marshall and cedar streets last night. medics rushed the victim to the hospital where he died. in fiphiladelphia, police a trying to figure out who robbed and shot a man in the back of the head last night. the shooter walked up behind the victim, stole 100 bucks, shot him three times, then ran off. right now the victim is in critical condition. also this morning police in

burlington county are investigating a stabbing that happened inside a rental office of an apartment complex. when officers arrived at the fox meadow apartments, they discovered one person stabbed right there in the office. medics rushed that person to the hospital. no word on how that person is doing. a 5-year-old boy is dead after he was hit by a truck in morrisville last night. police say people started attacking the truck, forcing that driver to take off, but a short distance later that driver called 911 and reported what happened. the boy died at the hospital. and a philadelphia police officer was forced to shoot a dog after it bit him in the leg. it was at a home in southwest philadelphia last night. they were taking ke ining custo children when a german shepard attacked the officer. 911 service has been

restored for at&t wireless users across our country and in our area. >> customers were unable to make 911 calls for at least an hour last night. law enforcement agencies used social media to spread the word about alternative numbers that residents could call if they needed help, but community leaders told us there were still issues. >> we know of one instance where there was a serious medical emergency where the caller was unable to get through, which cost about a 10 or 15-minute delay. finally they were able to use a la landline to connect with us. >> at&t has apologized for the program, but the company has yet to say what caused that 911 outage. time for a look at the roads out there. late morning. >> hopefully smoothly. >> we've definitely skipped over that morning rush hour, of course, but now we're watching some construction that's moving

on into the afternoon. this is 91 just around woodhaven road on the northbound side. this is moving out of the center city area and past woodhaven road and up to street road. we're watching some lane restrictions and construction. there's a crash out in springfield. i just checked my cameras around the area. we're not seeing any delays, but it's reported on 309 southbound just around church road. again, watching that, but right now should be okay heading southbound on 305. also watching the schuylkill expressway. actually, this is very different. just a second ago i looked at this. 71 minutes now eastbound from the loop to the vine. that probably happened just within the last couple of seconds. that's an hour trip moving towards center city. definitely avoid the schuylkill expressway. very abnormal for this time. probably an accident that just occurred within the last couple of minutes. i'll update you on my social

media account as well. >> that's why we watch. changes happening just like that. peco has restored power to all customers after a fire at a substation earlier this week. yesterday you got a better look at the damage left behind. the fire tuesday afternoon initially knocked power out to about 36,000 customers. earlier this morning crews turned power back on for the 900 or so customers who had still been in the dark. investigators continue to search for the cause of that fire. new this morning, an eagle's fan favorite has left the nest. connor barwin, he saw his number of sacks fall from 14.5 in the 2014 season to 7 in 2015 and just 5 last year. part of that was due to the team's decision to switch up its defensive scheme. the move gives the team nearly $8 million in salary cap room. barwin was admired for his work in the community.

overnight towards repealing the current health care law by approving a bill abolishing the tax penalty on people who don't buy insurance. happening right now on capitol hill, we're giving you a live look at the house energy and commerce committee, which is debating the very same bill. blaine alexander reports from washington. >> there being no further business for this committee the committee stands adjourned. >> reporter: after an 18-hour marathon session, republicans in the house ways and means committee granting the new health care its first step forward. voting to approve the bill just after 4:00 a.m. >> this is an important step in the repeal of obamacare and freeing millions of americans from that pain. >> reporter: there is still work to be done before the house votes, but without major changes getting the bill past conservative republicans could prove more difficult. in a tweet, senator tom cotton

the ban will harm its muslim population population. they'll ask for a temporary restraining order. that hearing will take place one day before the ban goes into effect. wikileaks is speaking out about its release of documents showing cia capabilities. russia is a suspect in the investigation into who leaked that information. the documents contain authentic information about the cia's tools for hacking. the website released thousands of documents it claims were stolen from the spy agency. they show the cia can use smart tvs and smartphones to spy on people. this morning from his hideout in the ecuadoran embassy in london, julian assange defended the release of the material. >> i want to step forward so we can tell you what has been going

on and so the various manufacturers like apple, google, and so on can start to develop countermeasures. >> assange says wikileaks will share the technical details it has that it has gathered with technology companies. we have a quick update now on traffic from first alert traffic reporter jessica boyington. >> when we last chatted with you, there was a big delay on the schuylkill expressway. what did you find out? >> a lot of times there are things going on, but a lot of times there aren't, especially moving into the 11:00 hour. we were watching our drive times ten minutes ago. i had a 63-minute drive time on the eastbound side. i assumed it was some sort of accident. but i just checked in with it. on the eastbound side there's slow moving maintenance vehicles. right now they're crawling around the belmont avenue area.

so we're seeing lane restrictions there. this is our camera around gladwin. all that traffic approaching the scene is pretty much single file behind that construction. we're seeing it also as it is moving because it is a rolling work crew. all this traffic is just crawling be ind crawl ing behind it. we see them there a lot. now it is climbing. 65 minutes. average speeds down to 12 miles per hour. if you can, don't take the schuylkill expressway on the eastbound side. back to you guys. let's talk about some weather now. high winds caused some travel troubles for drivers in parts of northwest ohio. a powerful gust on wednesday flipped an empty tractor-trailer right onto its side as it crossed a bridge in toledo. fortunately, the driver suffered only minor injuries. the crash tied up traffic for much of the day.

i'm first alert meteorologist erika martin with your most accurate forecast. weather headlines for today include a warm, windy, and dry thursday, but only dry until 11:00 p.m. i'm expecting some rain mix, a wintry mix, and some light snow moving into the lehigh valley from the northwest towards the southeast by about 11:00 p.m. i'll time that out for you in just one moment. otherwise on friday tracki inii some a.m. snow. steadier during the hours of 8:00 a.m. high temperatures will be below normal. we're seeing highs top out in the upper 20s for the lehigh valley. everybody else seeing 30s. feels-like temperatures will be at or below zero saturday into sunday. winter weather advisory has been issued starting friday at m midnight until noon. in one moment, we'll time out for you why that's the case.

current wind right now. this is considered a fresh breeze on the buford scale. wilmington, 20 mile-per-hour wind speeds for you. 20 for philadelphia. 20 for allentown. 20 for millville. 18 mile-per-hour wind speeds for coatesville. keep in mind the winds are strong right now. that's because we're behind this first cold front that swept on through yesterday. notice how i had these blue arrows telling us we do have that colder air moving in. we also have a second cold front that will slide on down, and that will also kick up the wind speeds and the wind gusts and of course bring us those colder temperatures that we do expect by friday into saturday. otherwise locally right now it's high and dry. we are influenced by a high pressure system. hour-by-hour forecast starting this at 11:00 a.m. pay attention. notice here by later tonight we start to see clouds move in. by 11:00, 11:30 p.m., we're seeing pinks. that's telling us we have a wintry mix. notice we're also seeing some snow moving in from the

northwest towards the southeast. by 4:30 a.m., a lot of us getting ready for work and school. you'll see some light snow moving across really the northern portion of the delaware valley, of our region, anyway. by tomorrow 6:00 a.m., everybody will see some light snow. notice how it moves on down southeastward and finally pushing offshore. it's inconvenient because it is going to be for that morning commute. i also want to give you a heads up. be sure you try and pretreat those surfaces. let's take a look at the snow potential starting at 4:00 a.m. we pause this at 7:00 a.m. just over an inch for allentown. notice we're seeing nominal amounts here. nothing major. the issue is of course it's during that morning commute. if those surfaces have not been prete pretreated, that will be an issue. allentown, maybe 2.5 inches. philly, just over half an inch.

first alert meteorologist erika martin has the most accurate forecast for us. erika, tell us about the changes. >> if you notice the northwestern portion of pennsylvania was already seeing a little bit of snow not making it to the ground, not yet, but still a sign we have some moisture in the atmosphere. we have a cold front headed in our direction. however it is moisture deficient. we're not going to see a lot of snow, but we will get some. let's time this out for you hour by hour. we're going to start this at no noon. pot pottstown, 56. wilmington, current temperature 59 degrees. we start to see a shift in the winds. that's really important. by later tonight by 10:00 p.m., straight northerly winds. you can actually see some rain being introduced into the lehigh valley, but right behind that, because we do have that colder air in place, of course, that will set this up to change into some snow at 2:00 a.m.

at 4:00 a.m., we can see some snow moving on through the delaware valley. notice how the winds still have a northerly component. wilmington, northeasterly wind for you. doylestown seeing northeasterly wind. at 6:00 a.m., it looks like most of the area will see some snow with the exception of southern new castle county as well as kent county. however, by 8:00 a.m., we're going to see some snow move across the entire delaware valley. it will become unorganized. however, the biggest issue here will be that morning commute. if you're traveling between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., even 9:00 a.m., gave yourself some extra time. if you can pretreat now, do so now. we will expect anywhere from 1 to 2.5 inches. coming up in just a bit, i'll give kbryou the expected snowfa

totals. jury selection is taking place this morning in a case that paralyzed our area for weeks. >> jurors are being selected in the trial of eric frein who led place on a 48-day manhunt after killing a pennsylvania state trooper and wounding another. pamela osborne is live in west chester and has been inside that courtroom for the jury selection. >> reporter: things got off to a bit of a late start this morning. what they're doing right now is interviewing 104 potential jurors inside of a courtroom on the second floor. eric frein entered the courtroom ahead of those jurors. he was dressed in a suit and tie. quite different than when we saw him last. he's been charged with capital murder for the killing of brian dickson. a second trooper was critically injured, but survived the attack. a jury is being selected here in chester county, about 150 miles away from where the shooting and the manhunt that followed took

up on clouds developing from west to east. notice by 11:00 p.m. until midnight you're starting to see the introduction of some rain, some snow, some sleet, a mix moving across the lehigh valley. notice you're seeing some greens here for parts of berks county and some pinks and some blues. by 5:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, we're starting to see some widespread snow across the delaware valley, including parts of -- in fact all of montgomery county, chester county, delaware county. then by tomorrow 6:30 a.m., this is for your morning commute on friday morning, give yourself some extra time. we're starting to see new castle county and parts of kent county included in this light snow moving across the region. here is the deal. the cold front that's associated with this snow is moisture deficient. that's the good news. however, the not so good news is that this is coming during that friday morning commute. snowfall potential. we're going to go ahead and time this out for you.

8:00 a.m., we're seeing about just under an inch and a half for allentown. half an inch for pottstown. as we pause this at 1:30 p.m., 2.5 inches total for allentown. just over half an inch for west chester. half an inch for wilmington. an inch and a half of snowfall in total for pottstown. the surface right now is pretty warm, so i'm not expecting a lot of this to stick. however, if you have not pretreated the surface, you're going to encounter some issues there. here is that first cold front that moved through yesterday. now we start to see that colder air sliding into place. we have another cold front that's sweeping on through right bin behind that. we have much colder temperatures. you can see some presip here, a little bit of snow, that's not making it to the ground in western pennsylvania. it soon will. then it will head our direction. we're under the influence of a
