these workers were sporting short sleeve. >> tonight temperatures are tumble. the change will allow for the snow to fall in the overnight hours, you're looking at a live look at camel back mountain where wintry weather is welcome news. from 60s to snow in a matter of hours. al glenn, this is really going to happen. >> yeah, but the fact that we've been in the 60s is going to help tomorrow morning. because the roads are warm and so that gives us a better chance of any snow melting. we have beautiful conditions out there now. it's been a windy day, but it certainly has been a warm one. we have a first alert issued for lehigh valley, berks county, pa suburb ps chester for tomorrow morning's rush. 4:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. these are the areas most likely to see the accumulating snow and some untreated surfaces if it comes down hard enough. especially higher elevations and

the lowest visibility as that snow comes through right during the morning rush. well, we're 45 in mount pocono now. in the 60s everywhere else. 68 at dover. they did get up to 70 degrees. now in philadelphia by 8:00, it's going to be 52 degrees and just keeps going down. by 8:00 a.m., it's 37. and probably snowing at that point. and feeling like 30. and that's about as warm as it's going to feel all day. hour by hour, showing that snow coming in and it's going to be all snow from lehigh valley, berks county, and areas north of the pennsylvania turnpike. could start off as rain in the philadelphia area, down to wilmington, but the darker colors, darker blues indicating some heavier snow. and it could be a burst orf thi during the morning rush. the main issue around here is the visibility. so you won't be able to see that

wildest dreams something that huge. >> reporter: the 71-year-old and her son do the morning routine, checking the scale. >> do me a favor. >> reporter: for the past 15 years mary was slowly gaining weight. >> the doctor said watch what you eat. >> reporter: she figured it was old age, genetics maybe a bad diet. >> that little old lady. >> reporter: last year, she was 350 pounds. >> got harder and harder to walk. when i laid on my back and it pressed against my lungs. that's when they took me to the hospital. >> reporter: she went to rely valley cedar crest where doctors found a 140 pound ovarian mass equal to 17 gallons of water. >> this is predominantly liquid. >> reporter: the surgeon had the tricky thing of removing the tumor. that giant mass growing inside her, more than doubled her body weight topping out at 365 pounds.

now she has to go buy all new clothes. >> two of us can go in there. >> reporter: mary will be monitored for cancer but she can walk around and warns that whatever was growing inside of her could happen to anybody gaining an unusual amount of weight. >> it was a happy little cyst, it kept growing and didn't cause pain and made itself comfortable in there. it probably would have killed me eventually. i'm so glad i got to the hospital in time. >> reporter: in the lehigh valley. a small home made plane went down in the woods while coming in for a landing. sky force 10 over the scene. the 79-year-old pilot walked away without serious injuries. investigators say it appears he suddenly lost control causing that plane to crash. jury selection is underway in the trial of aaron frein who is charged at the deadly ambush in the poconos. al investigators say he killed a pennsylvania state trooper and wounded another before leading

police on a 48 day manhunt. jury selection is happening in chester county because of the media attention the case received in pike county. frien's lawyers will pick from a pool of 200 people. >> details from the courtroom, jacqueline? >> jury selection is expected to last a week. 100 of the 1,200 jurors were in court to answer questions from lawyers on both sides of the case. cameras were rolling as frien arrives this morning in this van. he wore a suit and tie. he was not handcuffed. his parents were in the gallery. now, investigators say frein 8 ambushed two troopers in 2014. corporal dixon died and was just getting off work. trooper alex douglas had just arrived and was injured. there was an intense manhunt

through rugged terrain that lasted 48 days. the community was on edge until u.s. marshals caught up to him. they caught him about 30 miles from where the shooting took place. >> very happy that this process is underway. it's been over two years now. we look forward to selecting a fair and impartial jury. >> looking for fairness. looking for jurors that will keep an open mind. compassion. >> the case is expected to last at least a month. the jury will be able to leave pike county during the trial and go home on the weekends. in the breaking news center, jacqueline london. a chase led to a crash in north philadelphia. we're told drug enforcement and secret service agents were involved in the case. that is what led to here. no one was hurt. police say an assault at

valley forge military academy appears to be a case of bullying, investigators say three 16 and 17-year-old students tied up another student upside down then beat him with a stick of some sort. the victim had minor injuries. the three teens now charged with assault. pekower has been restored t all customers after this fire at a substation earlier this week, crews turned power back on for the 900 or so customers that had been in the dark this morning. the fire fielinitially knocked power to 36,000 customers. investigators are working to find out how the fire started. the federal communications commission is investigating why 911 service was interrupted for at&t wireless users across the country and here in our area. users in bucks, chester, delaware, montgomery counties were unable to make 911 calls for at least an hour last night. nbc 10 was inside an emergency dispatch center in delaware

county when the problems happens. law enforcement agencies used social media to spread the word about alternative numbers residents could call. the eagles have landed the biggest fish in the wide receiver free agent market. former bears' whiteout alshawn j jeffrey. he spent the last five seasons in chicago. nfl media is reporting the 27-year-old reportedly turned down more money else where to come and play with carson wentz. the news wasn't all good. the eagles released connor barwin. he spent the last four seasons in philadelphia. his release clears up nearly $8 million in salary cap room for the birds to fortify the roster. csn john clark has more on all the moves the eagles made today coming up in about a half hour. about an hour, part of lancaster avenue in lower marion township will close.

crews are going to install sewer lines. it will close at 6:30. the will reopen tomorrow evening around 5:30. in montgomery county a 7 eleven clerk thought this woman was joke wing when she demanded money. police say the woman whipped out a knife, again yelling at the clerk to open the register. when the clerk told her she didn't speak english, she ran off. happening now, new castle county is holding its first ever facebook live town hall. residents were encouraged to send in questions ahead of time and have them answered during the event. matthew meyer said he wanted to have a conversation about how to improve the county. the task force looking into the heroin and opioid epidemic in philadelphia is considering giving addicts a safe place to use drugs.

right now, they exist overseas, proponents say it's an alternative to addicts using in the streets. nurses or doctors would be on hand to supervise. experts in fighting human trafficking gathered to discuss how to put an end to commercial sexual exploitation. it was part of a two day symposium at villanova university. police are experiencing a transformation in the way they view this kind of exploitation. 200 residential and commercial properties were up for grabs in atlantic city today. a mass auction was held. everything from empty lots to historic hotels were on the block. the properties stretch outside ac to include galloway and egg harbor townships as well as pleasantville. nurses at delaware county memorial hospital are going back to work tomorrow. the nurses walked off the job sunday over staffing issues. the hospital says the staff nurses at the national average. both sides still have not

president trump today called community banks the backbone of small business in america at the white house today. he met with several bank ceos to talk about regulatory changes that would make it easier for banks to lend money. that way mr. trump said small businesses would have easier access to capital. meanwhile, president trump says contrary to media reports, plans to overhaul healthcare are coming along great. he and the vice president will be traveling to cities to push the republicans' proposed plan. the energy and commerce and ways and means committees both approved their portions of the bill. leaders hope to have it passed in the next few weeks, from

about 40% of the hospital patients rely on. were you expecting medicaid changes? >> i was hoping against it. >> reporter: the affordable care act expanded medicaid and ryan says they be seen more patients come in with coverage. he's worried that could go the other direction. >> you get into a position because you cannot financially sustain the operation, you have to start making choices do you cut jobs, programs, do you start ending services that you are trying to focus on, keeping people healthier as opposed to more immediate needs. >> reporter: einstein is not the only healthcare provider worried. the american hospital association sending a letter to congress saying they can't support the new plan as is. outside congressman's office the doctor came with concerns about people losing coverage. >> my main concern is the poor. >> reporter: members of congress will hear from providers in person, too. bill ryan says they'll be visiting capitol hill and calling on allies to send a message.

>> we'll be asking employee and friends and families to reach out to members of congress to say please let's do this the right way, not rush it through. >> reporter: lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. a level playing field. >> that's what two washington restaurant owners are after in a new lawsuit against president trump. they argue they can't compete with the trump international hotel just down the road from the white house. they're calling it unfair competition and are suing the president and the hotel. president trump turned over control of his companies to his eldest son. he still owns his global business empire, which includes the hotel. >> the consulate is obvious by bringing this lawsuit we believe we will show that the president's ownership of the trump hotel and his actions have given him an unfair competitive edge. >> the lawsuit does not ask for money, but instead asks mr. trump to devest himself from the property. wikileaks is promising tech companies a closer look at the cyber tools they claim the cia is using to snoop on

smartphones, tvs, and other devices. the head of the anti-secrecy group says he'll share parts of that arsenal with aping, microsoft, samsung and google so they can create a fix to prevent their products from being hacked. the cia isn't confirming the documents are real. the peak of this year's cherry blossom season in washington may be later than first thought. the national parks service first predicted it would happen between march 14th and the 17th. now, they say it will take place between the 19th and the 22nd. the reason? cold temperatures forecasted for the weekend are believed to be the cause of the delay. and as much as glenn tells us it's going to happen, it's hard to believe snow is on the way with 60 degree temperatures. >> march can be a strange month for weather. last march 9th, this is video from temple's campus one year ago today. the high was 82 degrees and students were enjoying the

weather in shorts and tee shirts. today, pretty mild as well but that is all about to change. >> yes, it is going to change big time and it's going to change very quickly. it's 67 degrees right now. our high was 68 today. wait till you see how cold it's going to get. we were starting to see some clouds coming into the lehigh valley, a sign of the changes that are about to take place this afternoon. the wind not quite as strong as it was. 31 mile an hour gusts in trenton right now. 26 in philadelphia. we did see gusts up to near 40 miles per hour earlier. here's the leading edge of that area of snow. it's a front that's coming down, an area of low pressure riding along the front. not a big storm. doesn't have the potential to be a big storm or create huge accumulations. it's also coming in with temperatures at or above the freezing mark and warm roads. so this kind of snow, the darker

blue indicating some pretty heavier snow. as the morning rush is starting, temperatures are border line. so if we had just had a cold spell, this would be a lot worse than it's going to be. here we are 7:00 a.m., snowing in philadelphia, even down to millville. after that the snow could conceivably go all through the area. i don't think the temperatures are going to get to freezing or even close to freezing in much of new jersey or delaware. and so that snow just melts on the roads. it's to the north and west where it's different. the feels like temperature is going to go down tremendously. as we go toward the end of the day tomorrow, and tomorrow night, the wind picks up. and look at this, by 11:30, feeling like 1 in doylestown. 68 today, 1 tomorrow. that's 33 hours going down.

over 60 degrees in the way it feels. saturday 6:00 a.m. feeling like close to zero across a good bit of the area. it doesn't really warm up that much during the day. feeling like the teens at best saturday afternoon. so it's going to be a very cold weekend, at least as cold as last weekend. now, the snowfall amounts are not going to be that big a deal except for perhaps lehigh valley, berks county where it's all snow. could get three to as much as five inches in some of the higher elevations, that's on the grassy surfaces, not on the roads. some could stick to untreated surfaces. we drop down to one to two in ph philadelphia. yo i don't think there will be any accumulation. we'll wait for a more significant system coming next tuesday. saturday, sunday, these are the high temperatures. doesn't get out of the 20s in

the lehigh valley. windier on saturday than sunday. looks dry. both days throughout the area. now, look at this ten day. we lose an hour's sleep over the weekend in addition to the chill. these are the low temperatures in philadelphia. up to 37 monday. and then late monday night and into tuesday, that one has the potential to be a very significant snowstorm across parts of the area. so this is what we're going to focus on once we get through tomorrow. very windy tomorrow. it doesn't really get mild until the end of next week or next weekend. thank you, produce problems. up next a new report that could have you skipping the strawberries during your next trip to the supermarket.

maybe you were expecting snow tomorrow. philadelphia is getting ready for its annual flower show. today bloom philly announced the winners of a decorating contest. the flower show starts saturday at the convention center. strawberries top the list when it comes to the dirtiest produce. every year the environmental working group compiles a list of fruits and veggies with the highest amounts of residue from

penn's grove. >> we saw how this crash happened. how it ended rather. how did it start? >> reporter: i can tell you, police were giving chase to an erratic driver. they say he was going 75 miles per hour in this direction. blew through stop signs went airborne here before taking out this fence and a big chunk of this family's home. police say they do have dash cam footage of the after math. they're not ready to release. right now, the family is working to fasten up the home before tomorrow's weather. >> luckily they're on that side of the house. >> reporter: he is thanking got his parents were asleep and not injured. >> he could have killed my parents, could have killed the neighbors and yourself. >> reporter: he considers the driver a cowered for defying police which led to a pursuit. as dash cam video was rolling the driver escaped the mangled nissan by running into the woods. he left four injured passengers inside the car. >> they saw it unfiehead of the.

the driver had exited the vehicle. >> reporter: the police chief says what began with an erratic driver led to speeds three times the posted speed limit. >> it appeared for thfrom the video when he was trying to get away that he was injured in some way. >> reporter: with the driver at large, nearby business owners worry. they say too often teen drivers disobey traffic laws, speeding on nearby streets. >> our concern is having little children. >> reporter: the gash in the home, meantime, wiped out the couple's water line. with no flowing water they may have to move out until repairs are made. >> we're waiting for the insurance company to get here to assess what we need to do. the main thing is try to get the hole patched. >> reporter: and those insurance adjusters have yet to arrive to put a price tag on the damage. he just wants the driver to turn himself in. he is confident that restitution

along with charges both criminal and traffic will pay for this overnight crime. we're live in penn's grove tonight i'm spaucydney long. here is a look at some of the stories making headlines across our region today. sky force 10 in bucks county you can see caution tape around the porch of the continental tavern. police say a drunk driver crashed his pickup for ucintruc the tavern. the owner hopes to have it fixed in time for st. patrick's day. eight correctional officers have resigned and 18 more plan to resign in the wake of the hostage standoff at vaughan correctional center. we reached out to the department of corrections about the mass exit. officials said some of the officers are eligible to retire others have been promoted. they insist the exit has nothing to do with the february 1st

philadelphia's huntington park. this is a live picture from ninth and butler. police you can see right there on the scene of a shooting and crash. a driver was shot. that driver then crashed into a vacant store there. you can see both doors are open. not clear how seriously that person was hurt. we do have a reporter on the scene right now. and a photographer gathering information. we'll have more ahead at 6:00. something to think about tonight before you pour that glass of wine, take this into consideration. a new study finds that having as little as one to three drinks each day may increase your risk for a fib. afib is a heart condition that causes dizziness, shortness of breath and chest pain. the study found the risk was for wine and liquor but not beer. and then there's this, british researchers are shedding light on what causes men to lose their hair. the study found 280 genes are

involved. they've come up with a formula they can predict a man's risk of losing his hair. but they've yet to develop a test to pinpoint -- pinpoint is the word for those playing the home game -- if and when that could happen. pinpoint. this weekend. we will spring forward for daylight saving time. a new study out of finland suggests losing the hour of sleep can be bad for your health. researchers found an 8% spike in the amount of people who suffer a stroke in the two days after setting the clocks forward. and a 2012 study in the u.s. found day light savings time was linked to a 10% increase in heart attacks. ikea is getting into the marriage saving business. sort of. the swedish furniture maker is set to release a new line of furniture that snaps together like a jigsaw puzzle. the thought is to make the assembly process easier and that

authority made the announcement in the past ten minutes. the bridge has been closed for seven weeks after someone found a crack in it. crews have worked around the clock since then to get it reopened. again, the bridge that connects the pennsylvania and new jersey turnpikes over the delaware river will reopen to drivers later tonight. all right, the parting of a fan favorite is just one headline in what's been a really busy day for the birds. the eagles cut defensive end connor barwin. he has spent the last four seasons with the birds. john clark joins us. >> in addition to his play, he was admired in the community. >> he is really going to be missed. i don't happen if i've seen a philly pro athlete get so involved in communities in philly. he invested not just his money but a lot of his time. he was like a lot of us a lot of days. he rode his bike and took septa to work.

connor barwin is a renaissance man. he was always out in the community with people in philly. >> put your hands like this. >> his foundation has given close to $700,000 to build three parks in the city. with help, they've turned that into $3 million to $4 million. >> i grew up in this environment, it was so important for my up bringing. >> he didn't just call and donate money. he was in these neighborhoods. >> connor riding his bike to and from practice. saw the park, saw it in disarray. took a liking to the park. >> this was the first, the community garden and basketball court at ralph brooks park in south philly. and smith playground is under construction. >> his legacy is always going to be that. he's going to be a community man. he's a man of our town. >> connor's foundation started right here in philly. even though he won't be playing football here anymore. the seeds he planted will

and the sunset, coming later and later. right now, the temperature, 67 degrees in philadelphia. millville, atlantic city, 68 in dover which hit 70 degrees today. and in delaware, 65 at claymount. 67 in harmony hills, georgetown, lewis and with a land breeze it's warm at the beaches. 67 rehobeth and bethany beach as well. those places are going to be a whole lot colder too. here comes the leading edge of the snow. it's into pennsylvania now. believe it or not. with temperatures near 70 degrees in philadelphia. the snow is not that far away. got to be quite a temperature contrast, huh? here we go. by 5:00 a.m., it's snowing

practically all the way down to philadelphia. but the other thing you'll notice and i want to put these on, the temperatures generally at or above freezing, the roads are warm from all the warm weather that we've seen. so we're going to have minimal impacts from this. especially near philadelphia and points to the south. the timing is not exactly great. and the darker blews indicate heavier snow. we can get bursts of snow. the biggest problem is going to be the reduced visibility. if you're driving, a lot of traffic and you can't see much ahead of you, that's where we get into danger in the many cases. we're barely below freezing in allentown, as soon as the snow lightens up, the temperature will go back up. the clouds, as you'll see going up to allentown, upper 30s. more snowshowers, snow flurries come through during the afternoon.

temperatures don't really change that much until tomorrow night. so by 10:00, it's down to 20 in allentown, 21 in reading. anything that's around is going to freeze. and including the people. because look how cold it's going to be feeling. 12 degrees by 10:00. and as we go to midnight, close to zero in some places and in the morning, there's a 1 in doylestown after 68 degrees today. and during the day saturday, only goes up to the teens. at least for the way it feels. so virtually nothing as far as snow accumulation and much of delaware, cape may county, atlantic county lbi, if there's any snow it's on the grass. one to two mostly on the glass from east windsor to trenton, to ben salem. philadelphia, chester, gloucester county.

supermarket. >> reporter: who doesn't like a warm day in the winter? >>iga great for human beings. >> reporter: walk through the orchards. >> a nerve racking time of year. >> reporter: he has weather and peaches on the brain. >> you can start to see the pink. >> reporter: his farm's peach trees are budding a month early thanks to the warm weather. the problem is cold weather is coming back which could kill off the buds. he's praying the incoming cold doesn't get, well, too cold. >> if you're a betting man, these buds here, are they ever going to be peaches we're going to eat? >> i hope so. >> reporter: with the crazy weather, the farmers have had to put on a tarp. the peach trees are too big and the orchard is too vast. you country throw a blanket on everything. last year the farm brought in choppers pushing warm air on the peach trees but still lost 60% of the peaches.

that breaking news, the delaware river turnpike bridge will reopen tonight. seven weeks after a crack forced it to shut down. sky force 10 flying over the bridge which connects bucks county pennsylvania with new jersey. we learned it will reopen tonight. nbc 10 investigative reporter mitch blocker has been following the repairs, he joins us live in the breaking news center. >> crews have been working around the clock to get this bridge back open. i want you to look at the video

of the crack that originally shut down the bridge. it's on what's called a truss. this was back in january. you will remember that engineers from around the country, they were working to find a solution. basically that crack was so bad that there was a two inch gap between the steel. crews using heavy machinery had to lift the bridge back into the place and they conducted a permanent repair. the bridge has been tested all week to insure that it is safe for traffic. and, again, it will reopen tonight. that is seven weeks after it shut down. if you are wondering what caused the crack, investigators say it was partly because of two misdrilled holes. they say that was not the only reason, but it was a contributor. we're live in the breaking news center, nbc 10 news. all right. more breaking news, new information just into our newsroom. police are telling us two people are in the hospital right now after they were shot. the shooting happened about an hour ago in hunting park. one of the people were inside this car which crashed into the
