for your friday night. >> there's a look at flags blowing in center city tonight. gusty for people hitting the town tonight. good evening, everyone i'm jim rosenfield. >> i'm jacqueline london. the coldest weather of this freezing weekend, could come overnight tonight. we' >> we begin with first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn, feeling like the single digits tonight? >> yeah, and it's not going to take that long before midnight it's going to be feeling like that in many parts of the area. partly because we're clearing, you got clear skies. of course, we also have strong winds. but if you've been following this, when the flag is blowing left to right, those are the cold winds coming in and they're coming in pretty hard. gusting up to 30 miles per hour. snowshowers still left. and it just hit cape may. we just showed you that a little while ago and rehobeth beach and we still have more coming into

philadelphia. these are smaller ones than what hit us earlier today. a few more back to the west. and the problem there is it's going to add some moisture to the roads as the temperatures drop. pottstown is 29 already. allentown, 31. these numbers continue to go down. and watch what happens as we go through the night tonight. this is in philadelphia, temperatures going down below 20. feeling like single digits. after 68 yesterday. how about that for a change. then, not only the weekend, we'll talk about a potential winter storm for next week. all right, glenn, the sun peeking out after the snow in plymouth meeting late this afternoon. it's not really helping with the cold. randy gyllenhaal is tracking the freeze in four counties. that's coming up in a few minutes. you can track the chill all weekend on the nbc 10 app. right now at 6:00, the den penalty, prosecutors might fight

for that punishment for the mom charged in her adopted daughter's rape and murder. nbc 10 has been bringing you developments no one else can. tonight, nbc 10's deanna durante looks into whether packer may have broken the law, far before her daughter's murder. >> reporter: she wore an orange jumpsuit and her hands remained cuffed, even when she had to sign the document that said she was pleading not guilty in the rape and murder of her adopted daughter. now the defense team for sarah packer is getting ready to figure out if it can get a fair trial in bucks county. we're learning more about the foster children in the packer home. the majority of foster children sarah packer and her then husband came from the impact agency. in the last month, nbc 10 introduced you to two women who say they reported abuse in the packer house as far as back as

2006. more kids have told investigators they too say they reported abuse allegations they saw in the home. sarah packer went on to adopt grace packer and her brother and continue to foster children until 2010 when david was arrested and charged for sexually abusing one foster child, and grace. nbc 10 has learned sarah was required to have a waiver to the state that demonstrated there was no conflict of interest in fostering children. the spokesperson says there's no evidence that the impact project filed the waivers. a separate investigation is taking a closer look at the impact project and its past cases. >> our goal is was and always will be to seek justice for grace. >> reporter: in bucks county today, sarah packer pleaded not guilty. defense lawyers appear to be laying the blame at the hands of her boyfriend, who will appear in court later this month. >> she's charged with a lot of things we allege she did not do. >> reporter: the district attorney is looking for evidence

man threatened the 65-year-old woman with a gun inside her home at chester heights. she struggled with him and he ran away. police do not know who he is. several people were hurt after a school bus and a dump truck collided in wilmington. witnesses say the truck ran a red light and slammed into the bus, which was carrying hearing impaired students. kids weren't hurt but they were taken to the hospital just to be checked out. both drivers, an aid and a passenger in the dump truck serv suffered injuries but they're expected to be okay. today marks the halfway point through president trump's first 100 days, today the president thanked republican leaders of the two committees pushing through the american healthcare act. some lawmakers say they're concerned about passing the new bill until they get a price tag which could come next week. the president says this year will be a disaster for obamacare if it's not repealed and

replaced because it was designed that way. >> '17 would be a disaster for obamacare. that's the year it was meant to explode. because obama won't be here. that was when it was supposed to be. as bad as it is now it will get even worse. >> democrats are fighting against the gop plan. pennsylvania governor tom wolf says it will hurt senior citizens the most. >> make no mistake, under this proposal. seniors lose. seniors lose coverage. they lose the ability to make their own choices. and they lose money. >> governor wolf was at germantown today to talk about the plan. he says the american healthcare act would allow insurance companies to charge seniors five times more than others. new details this evening about coffins uncovered in old city. we fif archeology experts will have until sometime next week to

remove the dozens of coffins found at this construction site on arch street. because today's severe weather delayed the excavation project. they were previously told to finish up by tomorrow. now, to a sex slave lawsuit alleging a northeast philadelphia hotel helped sex traffickers enslave a 14-year-old girl for years. lawyers claim the teen was forced to have sex twice and three times her age at the roosevelt inn. the nbc 10 vigors fouinvestigat sex trafficking arrests had happened before. the u.s. attorney's office would not comment on the possibility of criminal charges. today's filing is in civil court. a south jersey woman is facing prison time for shop lifting thousands of dollars in a retail theft ring. she pleaded guilty today. prosecutor say she recruited people to steal from stores like target, walmart and home goods. the merchandise was returned for gift cards. berks county, police say this man is a person of interest

in a deadly shooting outside a reading bar. officers found a man dead along penn street last week. police say this man was seen inside the bar before the shooting happened. married men becoming catholic priests? pope francis says he's open to the idea in an interview the pope said he would consider because of a shortage of priests. he would not allow single men to become priest and become married later. the priests who lead a nearby high school says the pope is trying to make sure there are enough priests in the world. >> really, the eucharist is going to be the focal point of church life, and there aren't enough priests, that creates a serious situation. >> the archdiocese of philadelphia would not comment on the pope's remarks. back to our first alert forecast, and a snowy friday everywhere in our region today. nbc 10 in doylestown and devon

and atlantic city. looks like the inside of a snow globe everywhere. we're in for bitter cold this weekend. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal joins us live. heavy snow there today, how's it feeling right now? >> reporter: a few flurries left but mostly it's plummeted in temperature. the winds are starting to pick up. earlier really heavy snow throughout parts of our region. even approaching 70 degrees yesterday. armed with the umbrella she packed thinking rain, bonny glad to see the heavy snow instead falling on her walk to work. >> i was so happy to welcome the snow. because it's winter. we should have snow. >> reporter: in west philly, the cleanup was pretty simple, easy to wipe off the car. >> real soft, it's not hard. not really cold. >> reporter: and in vineland, new jersey, drivers facing some trouble navigating the roads

this morning. >> i didn't even see this coming. i didn't know how to dress for the weather nowadays. >> reporter: friday's snowfall capped off a wild weather week that begun with temperatures in the 60s. unlike yesterday, nobody is sitting outside for lunch today. the other thing we're missing, any sign of the early spring bloom. flou flowers are covered by a blanket of cold snow. the wild winter causing a lot of plants to wake up too sgloon when the temperature reaches a certain point, that's when they know to come up. >> no problem. >> the guys at this garden shop recommend a frost blanket to protect your garden ahead of the weekend's coming cold front. >> any kind of harvest guard like this, anything that will keep the frost off of it but still allow a little bit of the air and some water through. >> reporter: this roller coaster confusing the plants, people and the cats. >> yesterday we were wearing flip-flops and today, you got to wear your snow boots. it's ridiculous. i don't understand this weather.

i want to let you know the reopening of philadelphia's love park is delayed, nbc 10 learned today the city recreation department is expecting a september opening instead of some time this spring. officials telling nbc 10 they're dealing with unexpected excavation issues. they're digging up the original park as part of a major renovation. it would be called the camden tower, a nearly $250 million headquarters for a

trio of south jersey companies. the proposed building which would sit on the waterfront could bring 850 jobs to camden. new jersey officials are expected to review the plans next week. ahead of a cold weekend ahead, nbc 10 is at moury's pier. they need to fill thousands of job. >> they would love to meet you as early as weekend in the cold. tonight nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg tells us who's hiring. >> reporter: at places repairing for summer fun, a reality check. that it's still winter. >> yesterday there were people running on the board walk in tee shirts and shorts and today we're bundled up in winter jackets and coats again. >> reporter: the wildwoods can't focus too much on the snow flakes, the major jersey shore attractions opens in less than a month and has lots of jobs to

down, i'm concerned there will be icy spots. watch out for that. and it's best to clear your driveway and sidewalks of whatever slush might be around because it's all going to be frozen by morning and a whole lot harder to get rid of. it's going to feel like single digits tonight and teens for most of the weekend and the winter storm monday night and tuesday has the potential for big accumulations depending on the track. does look like it's going to be an intense storm. 36 right now with a northwest wind bringing in the colder air. already down to 30 in many other parts of the area. lehigh valley getting a snowshower right now. with a 30 degree temperature some of that could start sticking. it's getting below freezing in parts of philadelphia. 36 at the airports. 32 at chestnut hill. 31 in summerton. 32 in park wood. everybody's going to be below freezing tonight. feels like it's 4 in mount

pocono. 21 in allentown, 25 in atlantic city. it's starting to get colder and it will continue, obviously. as we go through the night tonight, single digits by midnight and close to zero by morning. that will be the coldest part of the weekend. by tomorrow afternoon, it's going to feel like it's in the teens. and that's about as good as it's going to get all weekend. radar, continuing to show some snowshowers. at you'll notice not as much as what we saw a half hour ago. as we get closer to sunset, the things do tend to weaken. we did get a heavy one down by cape may, got a good one in atlantic city. and that one will be moving through quickly. that's the main snow area that moved through. these are the snowshowers. and what are we left with? a cold weekend in early next week. this really cold weather's going to assure that the roads are

look at this, snow today, just the start of a bitter cold weekend. easton, north hampton county this was today as snow was falling heavy out dollar. >> it's cold in center city. you're looking live at the skyline. a cold night if you're headed out. >> yeah, and the wind is going to be up there too. watch out for icy spots because there is moisture on the roads. then a very cold weekend and monday sets us up for the next storm tuesday. we'll start as snow, it's a nor'easter, lots of moisture with it.
