11:02 am
maybe the northern parts of philly as high as 6 to 7 inches. let's go ahead and take a look out toward montgomery county, bucks county. these totals may be a tad shy. we may pick up perhaps 8 to 9 inches here in the north upper reaches of bucks county and montgomery county. you can see between 4 and 7 inches is what the forecast models are projecting. now we go to chester and delaware county where it is a little bit less, but out toward pottstown maybe 6 inches or more. it is tapering off as it heads off to the south and the east, and that's where we've seen the sleet and the ice and the freezing rain. in the lehigh valley and the berks, a foot all the way up to 19 inches. some isolated areas may pick up more than that, but that's been a pretty steady snow. there was only a short period of time when it came down as a bit of a sleet. as we go to the jersey shore, an inch and a half to 3 inches, 4
11:03 am
inches there. 2.5 inches in wilmington. we're going to see some snow on the backside this afternoon. it will be intermittent snow showers. we get out to the shoreline. you can pretty much see anything that says point before is it basically nothing. there may be snow that fell and then basically melted. we get all the way to maybe 7 inches in burlington. it is mostly just going to be water. here's the impact timeline. from noon to 2:00, sleet, ice, and rain coming to an end across the area. from noon to about 5:00, light snow continuing. maybe another quick 1 to 3 inches in some areas. noon to 6:00 high winds are going to be continuing. branches could be coming down. there could be power outages. freezing across the entire area, even the shore tonight. that means we're going to have a lot of ice in areas that picked up rain or have melting snow and

11:05 am
down to 35 miles per hour pretty much the entire length of it. at least towards trenton is where we're worried about there. here's route 30. the route 30 bypass around route 232. there was a few tractor-trailers stuck at the bottom of this ramp. within the last few minutes, they did clear out of the way. more accidents at 73 right around route 70 near mt. laurel, new jersey. snow-covered roads. in gloucester township on the atlantic city expressway eastbound around berlin cross keys road. high tide has come and gone. we are seeing flooding as expected. this is stone harbor. a viewer sent us this video which came in just a short time ago. also ted greenberg is there. he was watching the waters rise in ventnor heights. he was moving to different

ahead because this is not stopping at least for the next few hours. plow truck drivers say the roads are pretty terrible. i spoke with penndot in the lehigh valley. most of the secondary roads are completely covered with snow and that the major highways may have one lane passable. the roads remain treacherous in the lehigh valley. again that sleet has stopped. it was little ice pelts that were hitting your face. now we're back to a consistent heavy wet snow. those power outages could be a concern going forward. coming up in the next half hour, we'll go into some neighborhoods in the allentown area and hopely chat with some folks who are digging out of this snowstorm. >> you mentioned penndot. penndot just tweeted when snow is falling roads will not be there. >> we want to encourage our viewers to continue to send us

11:10 am
it's a heavy wet snow. there's still some flurries in the area. we have seen a little bit of sunshine. it's kind of a weird day. at this point it's not the happy, happy, fun, fun foot of powder you'd go sledding in. i still thought we'd see kids outside playing football. look at the left side of the picture right now. that's on main street in newark. no place to park down here at the metered spots. so be careful if you're out. 95, we have seen a number of cars off to the side. we saw a mercedes-benz facing the wrong direction out on 896 at south college avenue. spun out completely in a mercedes sedan. if your car not made for this weather, don't go out today. it's not a good idea. until all is cleared up and all the slush is pushed off, you're

below freezing. this last final bit of snow over the next four or five hours moves through. we have temperatures below freezing from philadelphia county on out into the berks and the lehigh valley. watch what happens. you can see 32 in philly at noon, and that temperature is going to covhover around that m and then drop off. everybody is going to drop below freezing, even out here along the shore. you're going to have ice on everything. it's going to form. it's going to be very slippery and a bit dangerous as you head out. as you wake up in the morning, temperatures will be in the teens across the inland areas and in the 20s out along the shore. that's going to leave us below freezing for our wednesday. we're not going to see a warm up to melt any of these sleet, ice, and snow out there. this is that forecast model that i showed you earlier. it is still hanging on to maybe 7 inches in philly. i have to tell you it is banking
11:19 am
on a burst of quick snow on the backside of this. nothing along the shore. as you get out toward allentown, that's where we could see that huge total. anywhere from 12 to 18 inches there. across the area for the most part the sleet and the rain kind of tamp things down, but not enough to prevent perhaps some afternoon snow. here is our impact, what you have to watch out for. it's high impact for heart attack snow. you want to make sure you use your knees to shovel because it is very heavy and hard to shovel that snow especially in upper bucks and lehigh valley and the berks. icy, slick, and wet roads throughout the day. icy tonight will be the emphasis. we'll be looking at treacherous travel tonight and throughout the day tomorrow because of the icy roads. high winds, that's going to bring down tree branches. it is possibly going to cause

11:33 am
through the afternoon this will be the big story. as we fall below freezing, all of that moisture except for the sea water is going to freeze. this is how much warmer we are today than the same time yesterday. look at where we are. 32 in philadelphia. we are at 28 in allentown. vineland is at 34. atlantic city has dropped out of the 40s to 39. look at the feels like where we're going to go. you're going to need the heavy winter gear once again. by 6:30 tonight, we're into the teens as a feels like. overnight we drop into the single digits across the area. that even includes all of you out along the shore. so we're going to feel really raw as we go through our wednesday. it doesn't improve much. it is pretty much in the teens across the area and the temperature stays below freezing on wednesday. the big story is going to be that ice and sleet and rain is now tapering off. we're going to head into snow

it today from this nor'easter we had. hours and hours of heavy rain. then we had high tide. then moderate tidal flooding, coastal flooding approaching almost the major level here in atlantic city as the nor'easter drove the northeast winds toward the coast. you can see somebody right there trudging through the water. it is very hard, if not impossible, to avoid if you neat to go ahead anywhere on a sidewalk, also on the street. many of these streets here in atlantic city, particularly the flood prone ones, are under water as of right now. here you see somebody coming through taking a chance and driving through this saltwater in this chevy suburban. pretty high up. we've heard reports and gotten reports and seen pictures from the fire department of vehicles that have gotten stuck and
11:38 am
needed attention and needed to be rescued. drivers could not get out of their flooded vehicles. you see a mini van tax tai comi through that water. it is pretty deep there. people, i know we say it all the time. you're really taking a risk besides the fact of potentially ruining your car by driving it. you're basically driving it through the bay here. you're driving it through saltwater, which corrodes your vehicle. it is really risky. as we've been seeing this morning and getting the reports, people are getting stuck. they've been taking that chance. some of them not getting through the water. >> right. ted, thank you. authorities have been saying don't drive and don't do that because not only are you risking your own safety, but you're risking the safety of those who would come to your rescue. we have the flooding at the jersey shore. we also have the beach taking a beating. you can see the strong waves pounding the coast.

11:45 am
issues over the last few hours is disabled vehicles. we saw a semi truck that was stuck in the middle of the street. we saw a couple of cars that could not get through, and even those highways are still pretty well covered. most of those major highways have one lane going at least, but those lanes may be difficult to pass, especially if you have a small car or something without four-wheel drive. going forward the advice is wait for all this to stop, let the plows get through, and then hit the road later today. here is the video of the cars that have been stuck throughout the allentown and lehigh valley area. one more thing in addition to the road issues we're hearing, emergency management officials tell me wind is the biggest concern they're going to be facing, especially with blowing snow in these neighborhoods. we're seeing extremely large snow drifts especially in people's yards. these crews are slowly trying to clear that off, but especially with the blowing wind it's going to be tough when you do finally get out there to shovel those

sidewalks. that wind is not going to help people as this cleanup continues here in allentown. i'm randy gyllenhaal. nbc10 news. >> you see the snow there has been pretty steady throughout the morning, but maybe it is time to push the reset button. we just got the totals in. >> mt. pocono now up to 23 inches of snow. remember we said one to two feet across our region not a shock. royiersfo royiersford, 7.5 inches. philly reporting at 5 inches. one of the higher reports we have seen throughout the area. a lot of the snow has been compacted by the freezing rain and sleet. to new jersey and delaware. newark at 4 inches. coope cooperstown, 4.2.
