i'm lauren mayk live in philadelphia where communities are coming together to clear away all this snow. nbc 10 breaking news. >> we're following two breaking stories tonight from the winter storm to new details about president donald trump's tax returns. nbc 10 news has obtained pages from the president's return. what it says about hisu jwealt had his policy proposals and how the white house is reacting. winter returns with a vengeance. snow, sleet, wind and flooding, we saw it all today. winter is not loosening its grip just yet. i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. anything on your car, sidewalçu it will refreeze. that concern has led to dozens g@(t&háhp &hc% delays tonight. reading and allentown schools.ñ will be closed tomorrow, but philadelphia public schools will open on time. you can see the rest scrolling on the bottom of the screen.

right now we go to glenn "hurricane" schwartz. the risks for this winter storm not yet over. >> sometimes you get more injuries after the storm than you do during the storm. of course, most people were off the roads today. so far, i-95 is looking pretty smooth. the main roads may be okay. side roads, your driveway, sidewalks, steps, all getting icy. look how cold it is already. 20 in pottstown, 21 in reading and allentown. it's 25 in philadelphia. it's below freezing everywhere. and it's just going to keep getting colder. look how cold it feels. 4 in coatesville. 7 in allentown, below zero in mt. pocono. we've got the rest of the night for this to all go down. look at the wind still gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour. 37 miles an hour dover air force base, 30 in philadelphia, 36 in toms river. and it's going to be windy all

hand of it right now. we saw a lot of here making sure these places are open bright and early tomorrow. strength in numbers. outside this church in reading tonight, we caught up with a local landscaping crew at the end of a more than 15-hour day. >> afterward we're going to go home and have a nice soup. >> reporter: the later it got, the colder it was, which presented a new challenge. refreezing. >> just a little harder, takes a little longer, but you know when it gets too packed, too icy, you use the rock salt to make it loose, then you keep plowing. >> it was kind of icy. it comes up off the asphalt pretty easily. >> reporter: a few blocks away nathan yancey helped his landlord by digging out his car. no heavy coat, no problem. >> not too bad, but definitely more snow than we've ever gotten this year and weird for it to

come in march. >> reporter: we saw city crews plowing away, a late night work to make sure businesses open bright and early tomorrow. contractors made their final stops in west reading's business district, too. workers put salt on the sidewalks to combat the icy surface. although the storm passed, public works and penndot crews will continue their around the clock shifts at least through tomorrow. coming back live now to west reading, when this store opening tomorrow, you'll see they'll ind of shovel'll see they'll off. yq hav any outdoor seating but always good to tidy up your restaurant when you have the chance. we spoke to a penndot spokesman and he told us they're focusing on the poconos and the lehigh valley and they're focusing on the secondary state roads that didn't get a lot of attention earlier today. they also have that speed limit reduced on the interstates and expressways to 45 miles per hour

well into the night. reporting live in berks county, i'm brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. outdoor dining tomorrow, not happening. and our team coverage continues now with denise nakano live in chester county. >> a lot of people are heading back the work and school tomorrow. they want to make sure they're ready. >> reporter: yeah, they'll be facing many challenges. we've already seen the winds pick up. you can see the streetlights swaying in the breeze. we're now starting to see a refreeze. areas that were once wet are turning into sheets of ice. against the wind and cold. >> and the blowing snow isn't helping. so it's pretty brutal. >> reporter: he took on the nighttime task of salting, scraping and digging out. >> dig a path to our vehicle. >> reporter: they know if they don't take care of it now they'll regret it later. >> whatever is left it will

freeze and cause chaos in the morning. >> reporter: aaa is warning the refreeze overnight will complicate the early morning commute, especially before the sun has a chance to get up. >> people have that false sense of security because they see the pavement not realizing that it can be very slick. >> reporter: untreated walkways will put you at risk of falling. nicole rivera can't have that. that's 22 weeks pregnant and she says she'll take every precaution. >> just be really careful and try not to fall. >> reporter: people worked late into the night cleaning up layers of snow. no matter how much it hurt, it beats getting injured. >> my ears are freezing and i'm falling in the snow, and this is completely miserable. >> reporter: and taking a live look now at lancaster avenue. it appears to be cle/yq on the roads. drivers having no problems getting by. but aaa says be careful. they expect to have more patches of ice continue to form overnight.

denise nakano, nbc 10 news. more than 78,000 people, that's how many were left in the dark in our area today. >> right now more than 30,000 still without electricity. in south jersey, you can see and hear the sparks flying in audubon today after the ice and wind damaged these power lines. the :es have died down since then but emergency crews say the ice covering the trees and power lines could still cause problems. >> take a look at what happened in newywn castle county. a tree came crashing down on a tree in the trailer park in stanton. that tree also fell on a pickup truck. no one was hurt. take a live look down in cape may. the wind is the word right now. you can see the flags whipping on the right side of the screen. that helped wreak havoc by pushing floodwaters inland today. police and fire used their high water trucks to get to stranded

drivers. officials were forced to close down several roads until the water had a chance to drain off. and in wildwood strong waves caused the beach to erode. >> lauren mayk continues our team coverage tonight. she's live in northeast philly where neighbors are helping neighbors right now. >> reporter: that's right, jim and jacqueline. this snow, this is tough for anyone to move because the colder it gets, just the more solid it becomes. this seems like it is just a block of ice. but tonight here in northeast philadelphia, there are teams of people in green vests spread out across this region trying to help people to clear it. in northeast philadelphia, it's fast work in freezing weather. >> we're very psyched to be out here even though it's very, very cold. >> reporter: they're clearing pavements and salting walkways. how do you get all these people together to come out and do this? >> actually these are all of our

church members. all these members are from the world church of god. >> reporter: this is one team of a dozen out tonight helping elderly and disabled residents move the snow and ice from around their homes and cars in the northeast. in chestnut hill neighbors used to helping each other dig out have a powerful new tool this year. they pitched in to buy a snow blower. do you feel like your investment is paying off? >> absolutely, 100%. my back does, too. >> reporter: it's making things on mead street a little easier. as the sun went down and the temperatures dropped, digging out became a matter of chipping away at snow turned icy. a little help from this crew freed this car so its owner can go to work tomorrow. and in some cases getting your car out is really just the firs- step. take a look at this street here. the snow is still high enough that it will touch the undersides of a lot of cars and you could get stuck. so if you are on a block like this, you first have to get

tonight a team effort to save the life of a 23-month-old boy in western pennsylvania. >> police helped escort the toddler and his family 80 miles from east stroudsburg to a medical center in danville. take a look, penndot pennsylvania state police, even the national guard helped out with the escort. the boy's mom tells us tonight that his case is critical, and she thanked the crews for

getting him to the hospital safely during the storm. it also is important to protect your health after a winter storm like this. >> nbc 10's keith jones is live in conshohocken to explain why. keith? >> reporter: doctors say it's very easy to get hurt. you can suffer a heart attack. just look how hard this snow is about now. i can't even break it off. i learned firsthand just how hard it was and just how easy it might be to hurt yourself. three hours. that's how long dave has been digging out. you cold? >> a little bit, yeah. a little windy out. >> reporter: he's just wearing a hood. >> second car of the day. >> reporter: his girlfriend danielle watches. >> it just has been sort of windy and nasty out. so you have to take breaks because it's like superheavy. >> reporter: doctors urge you to bundle up. and some suggest using cooking spray to make the job easier. but doctors say, that's not enough. you see +o hard this is.

>> cold weather can account for constriction of the coronary vessels. >> reporter: this cardiologist says you could have a heart attack. >> shoveling heavy, wet snow would be equivalent to lifting sort of free weights from a dead stop. something like dead lifting and so on and so forth which is a very strenuous isometric exercise. >> reporter: take breaks. don't shovel first thing in the morning when your blood is prone to clotting. don't eat a heavy meal beforehand. don't drink coffee either, it's a stimulant. and don't smoke which raises your blood pressure. he's doing a little at a time. how does your back feel, your legs? >> it's fine. i'll sleep well tonight, though. >> reporter: doctors tell us if you've had a prior heart condition, a heart attack or high blood pressure, take the shovel and throw it away. let the neighborhood kids do your front steps, your parking, wherever that might be, and if you have any problems, if you feel yourself overheating, make sure you call 911 immediately.

for now live in conshohocken, keith jones, nbc 10 news. >> you got to listen to your bodies. good tips there, keith. thanks so much. safety will be very important as people head out the door tomorrow morning. >> absolutely. because not only you got the shoveling to do, you're going to have ice, you're going to have ice probably on the sidewalks and the steps and the driveway, getting to the car is going to be difficult. now once you get into center city, roads should be okay. but it's those side roads that are going to be perhaps difficult. right around your car. so take it easy there. already down to 20 in pottstown, 20 in allentown. it's really cold out there and even colder in some of the suburbs. this is birch, lehigh and northampton, some of the places that got the heaviest snow. fleetwood is 18, kutztown is 19 degrees, mertztown is 18, south

mountain 16, this is not january. this is the middle of march. and we've got wind on top of that. these are sustained winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour out of the northwest. at least it's a land breeze so you won't have to worry about coastal flooding. but look at these feels like temperatures. we're talking about 1 below zero in pottstown at 6:00 a.m. that's like the dead of winter. and we didn't have many days like this in the dead of winter. even in the afternoon it's feeling like single digits in much of the area and later on tomorrow night back down into the single digits for the feels-like temperature. it's going to take a while before we really warm back up. the winter radar shows a few flurries down in delaware. this is what the storm looked like at 5:00 a.m., still snowing, but that was that sleet area that we were talking about for days, and came right up and it kind of crunched that snow down, and that's what's going to make it more deceptive to try to

shovel this. it's not all that deep, but it's heavy. hour by hour we show some flurries or snow showers especially in new jersey during the day tomorrow. now, how much snow fell in pennsylvania? berks county, 10, 13 inches, lehigh valley airport, nearly 14, northampton 14, mt. pocono 24. in bucks county perkasie, 11, chester county 7, philly officially 8.3. we were predicting 6 to 10, as you recall last night. mt. holly, 5.3, 6.1 in mercer county. atlantic city got a trace. and we were predicting practically nothing for them. and what a difference we had from the coast to the mountains. and in delaware, new castle county, generally very light, 2 to 4 inches and kent county had
