about 10,000 people still without power. some have been without light and heat for 24 hours. nbc 10 has been out in every part of our area today from the lehigh valley to the jersey shore. and in delaware, south jersey and philadelphia. some people are digging out, others are clearing ice and others are struggling to get around. landedy gyllenhaal is tracking the digout in allentown, and glenn "hurricane" schwartz has the forecast, but rosemary connors has the latest on the road being shut down. >> we are outside the loews hotel. they put up the caution tape and signs in front alerting people to the falling ice. now they're keeping everybody away from the sidewalk. but unfortunately the only option is to walk in the street close to the barricades. that's their best bet at this point. no reports of injuries.

the city is asking owners to keep an eye out for ice that has been accumulating. the storm is over, but this falling ice can be dangerous so they want to make sure everyone is safe. back out here on the ground, a philadelphia police officer is patrolling here. just making sure everybody is following the order and caution to stay off the sidewalks and stay awayed from the falling ice. i'm rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. >> this is a common scene in the lehigh valley, struggling to dig out of this snow. randy gyllenhaal is helping drivers get going in the snow for the second straight day. he's live tonight in allentown. driving there has not gotten much easier, has it, as the snow refreezes. >> reporter: we are seeing cars getting stuck and school buses will have a tough time getting down the narrow streets. we're learning that both

allentown and bethlehem public schools will be closed tomorrow for a third straight day. it's tough to get around anywhere in the lehigh valley. we even some flakes falling earlier this afternoon. it took plenty of horsepower with the help of manpower to get this car out of the ice in ail listen town. >> cars are stuck everywhere. >> reporter: across the city disabled vehicles left and right including randy stuck in a back alley. his suv going nowhere. >> there's so much snow on the roads. >> reporter: but he got some help from strangers on this block. >> it's slippery. >> reporter: who spent the day digging people out, lending a hand free of charge m. >> karma, people do it for me, i always like to give back where i can. >> reporter: as if on cue a block away ad bmw gets stuck in the snow. >> probably help them as well. >> reporter: the city of ail

listen town is u of allentown is using heavy machinery to remove the snow. postal workers are back on the job after a rare day off yesterday. city plowers should get to most streets by tomorrow night. but this man is using his own skid steer to clean up his block. >> we are one on 6th street. we'll bail them out. >> reporter: there are some signs of progress. the city says their snow emergency will end about 8:00 tonight. and trash pick up should resume sometime tonight. clearing those streets could take until tomorrow. and schools are closed in ail listen town and bethlehem for the third straight day. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. gusting winds out there making it feel miserably cold. looking at lincoln financial field in south philadelphia.

there are still passing snow showers tonight. glenn "hurricane" schwartz is tracking these freezing temperatures also. >> this cold will stick around. >> yes, it's not typical for march. if we get this much snow in a couple of days it's all gone because of the powerful march sun, higher temperatures and humanity. n humidity. the snow showers have mostly moved south and east. going towards theierc cc cc cc . coatesville has improved. northeast philly, look at mt. holly, thless than a mile philadelphia international, back up to ten miles. most places are seeing improvements except the temperatures. 30 degrees right now.

28 in coatesville, feels like it's in the single digits in parts of the area. the wind std reasis the reason. gusts of 44 miles per hour at dover air force base. that's the highest gust they had in hours. with this strong wind and low temperatures, of course anything that melts will refreeze. it will feel like it's in the single digits once you get up in the morning. temperatures will do up a little bit. we also have some snow in the forecast for part of the weekend. that's coming up. >> okay. at last check power outages across the region are down to about 10,000. right now that's mostly in delaware and parts of south jersey. utility crews are working into the night to get power back on for neighbors in moorestown. jill is one of thousands without heat or lights for thousands. she says she is grateful for

crews who got her up and running. they came on to the street three times yesterday, looked at what was going on and left. i was freezing. i wore gloves for two days. >> power is back in audubon, camden county but it could take weeks or months to repair this home that was hit by a tree. in new castle county, about 9,000 delmarva power customers still in the dark. about 100 of them in the shipleys neighborhood. everyone in new castle county should have power back on by midnight tonight. schools will still be delayed tomorrow. make sure you get the latest information on our nbc 10 app. you can track the snow and cold with our most accurate forecast on the app. now some other headlines we're following. in delaware tonight, the widow of a corrections officer killed in that prison uprising is refusing to meet with the

governor. she sent a later debtor letter e details on the killing. so far no one has been charged. temple university says it supports philadelphia's soda tax, but that tax is going to cost students more. initial numbers suggest the school would have to raise board rates by nearly 5% to make up for the tack taxes is paying f sugary drink inventory. but the city ander raised questions about how accurate those numbers are. school official are re-evaluating calculations before passing along fees to students. immigration crackdown across three states. 248 people arrested for illegally coming to the u.s. in pennsylvania, delaware and west virginia. a bulk of them were in philadelphia. immigration and customs enforcement says the operation targeted people who threatened public safety. about half of those arrested

have been convicted of a crime or faced pending charges. president trump's new immigration order set to take effect tomorrow. today philadelphia joined cities around the country in a legal challenge to the order. the move temporarilies the u.s. refugee program and bars travelers from six countries. the president's first version of this ban was halted by a judge. and the president is on the road tonight. a live picture from tennessee where he is set to speak shortly. this follows his visit to michigan where he claimed the assault on the american auto industry is over. >> they've stolen our jobs, stolen our companies, and our politicians sat back and watched. >> reporter: while in michigan the president announced plans to roll back fuel economy requirements. those would have forced automakers to crease the

recovery after being shot protecting his owner from two bad guys. the bad guys ran away, but not before shooting blue. he was rushed to pen vet where surgeons operated on him for about an hour. and he has since made a full recovery. people who waited until today to clean off the snow and ice had a much harder time after everything froze overnight. tonight hospitals are packed with patients who got hurt trying to clear their car, shovel sidewalks or just walk around on icy surfaces. deanna durant is tracking the post storm pain. >> reporter: brie peterson didn't plan on spending day at the abington hospital emergency room. i was holding her arm, but i couldn't hold her. she went down. the mail men came out behind us and helped me try to lift her up. then the maintenance man came.

>> reporter: the store just open according to the owner. he said he had not yet cleaned the sidewalk. >> my leg hurts really bad. >> reporter: ruth is one of dozens of patients packing ers since the storm ended. >> today a lot of slips and falls on the ice, shoulder injuries, ankle injuries, wrist injuries. >> reporter: by now many streets and sidewalks have been shoveled and salted, but you still have to be careful. you can't tell if there's black ice or not. and when it comes to areas completely untreated, best to avoid them. >> they were shoveling snow, got chest pain, called 911. >> reporter: the slips and falls are not the only hazard. two patients had heart attacks shoveling snow. then there are the snow blower injuries. jt people tend to shut it off before they unblock the ice. we had people who have had loss of fingers. >> reporter: most towns have codes requiring the snow is removed 24 hours after the snow

stopped falling. you are urged to take it easy and never put your hands inside a snow blower. as for ruth, she says if you have to go out, wear good shoes. >> war bootear boots. >> hopefully she'll be all right. more than 100 montgomery county high school students had the most magical snow day ever at disney world. about 160 of them from perkiomen high school couldn't fly home yesterday morning, so they had to spend another day at disney. their flight left florida a few minutes ago. they will land around 10:00. fun is over for them. to some of the best you have sent us of how you're spending this snow day. these kids didn't get a full day off, so they spent some time having fun before school. this is on a tiny pond in gloucester county.

[ laughter ] that's infectious. check this lit guy out. he love he loves one-way snowball fights. he peels in laughter as his siblings throw snowballs at the window. and bethlehem is digging out after the snow came in fast and furious a viewer sent us this time lapse of the snow moving in yesterday. it will not be melting any time soon. that's because it's so cold out there. look at broad street from our kimmel center campus camera. bitter win winds are making it worse out tlfrm. >> the cold weather prevents the melting it will melt a bit tomorrow afternoon, refreeze. melt more friday, refreeze friday night. we are getting cloudy skies across the area. that's an improvement not seeing so much more snow. look how cold it is, in the 20s

across much of the area. feels like 18 in philadelphia, 12 in coatesville. 1 below in mt. pocono. as we go through the night tonight, just going to feel colder. gusting to 44 miles per hour in dover, 38 in coatesville. other places not getting gusts. much of pennsylvania not seeing snow. moving out. except for atlantic county. atlantic city getting more snow from this thing than the storm itself. but within an hour or two, that will be gone as well. a pocket of heavier snow could lay down a little dusting and make travel more treacherous. at least for a little while. tomorrow, another cold day. low temperatures in the teens, highs in the 30s. look a the wind. 15 to 25. gusts to 35 miles per hour. not quite as windy as today. but plenty windy. 19 in fairmount for the low.

34 for the high. schwenksville, 27 going villvi. longport, 23 going up to 38. then we have a warm front that will be approaching friday night and into saturday morning. it should be cold enough for snow in the lehigh valley, bes s berks county, this indicates a wintry mix, a mix of rain and snow or frozen stuff. not a lot like we had. and maybe warm enough for rain from philly southward. then on saturday, we have some more chances, this is a weak system, this will move through rapidly, we will not have to dig out from that. on saturday i have the rain in philadelphia and south jersey. jersey shore and delaware. look how warm it gets.

we have a mix of rain and snow for the p.a. suburbs and lehigh valley. that's what neighborhood weather is about. on sunday it's looking dry. the average high temperature is in the 50s, we're not even close to it through the weekend. and we're windy on sunday. cold again wednesday and thursday, another brutal air mass coming in, making it feel like it's in the teens at best during the night. look at this. 21 for the low temperature, thursday morning. in philadelphia, teens in the suburbs. that's the temperature. not the feels-like temperature. feels like buffalo. i'm john clark. coming up, we will hear ville
