we ask experts if anything can be done to protect accounts. watch your step. everything from walked to parking is tougher after the winter storm. and that snow is not going to melt anytime soon. >> announcer: nbc 10 news starts now. tonight the damage keeps coming. new video shows the aftermath of this week's winter storm. nbc 10 in claymont, newcastle county, where this huge tree snapped and crashed onto a home. nobody was hurt but the home is unlivable. good evening, i'm jim rosenfield. 4,000 people are without power across the area, most in newcastle county. cold temperatures aren't making the cleanup any easier. a live look over philadelphia, feels like single digits in some neighborhoods out there. let's check in with chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn, if that snow wasn't frozen solid, it sure is now. >> yeah, and this is going to be a continuing problem over the

next several days, it will melt during the day and refreeze at night. you can see the cameras shaking, it's still windy out there. but it's not any colder than it was this afternoon. that's a good sign, if you want it to be a little bit warmer. 26 in pottstown and reading. sustained winds, still 20 to 30 miles per hour in much of the area. we're still seeing gusts over 30 miles per hour. so it's likely to be another windy day tomorrow. now, the temperature itself only going down a few more degrees, down into the lower 20s. feeling like close to ten by 6:00 a.m. when you get up in philadelphia. single digits across most of the rest of the area. even by 2:00 p.m. it doesn't warm up a whole lot. i'll let you know when it will warm up and when some areas are likely to see snow again in a

few minutes. >> all right, glenn. we still have a few dozen school closings and delays tomorrow, you can see them scrolling at the bottom of your screen or find a full list at nbc10.com. president trump goes 0-2 on his travel ban, just hours before his new order was supposed to take effect, a judge put the whole thing on hold. nbc 10's andrea cline-thomas joins us live at philadelphia international airport were the president's first travel ban caused all that chaos. andrea, the president is talking tough, but some are really relieved. >> reporter: absolutely, jim. this ruling applies nationwide. the next step is the trump administration, they have the next move, but things will continue to stay normal here at the international terminal here at the airport. >> we're going to take our case as far as it needs to go including all the way up to the supreme court. >> reporter: president trump addressed a crowd in nashville, tennessee, after a federal judge in hawaii blocked his second

attempt at a travel ban. >> this ruling makes us look weak. which by the way we no longer are. >> reporter: the order that was supposed to be go into effect tomorrow sought to temporarily holt the refugee program and suspend issued visas to immigrants from six muslim majority countries. tell me how you're feeling. >> extremely relieved and very excited that i might actually go to bed tonight. >> reporter: catherine miller wilson is the ceo of a refugee resettlement organization in pennsylvania. she feared how border patrol agents would interpret the order this time. the rollout of the first travel ban sparked protests at airports across the country. >> knowing that we can continue to help the people that need to be helped is extraordinarily gratifying. >> reporter: but president trump's supporters don't see this as defeat. >> it's not a ban.

it's just a temporary information gathering period. and it's not about anyone's religion. >> reporter: trump's supporters say they applaud the president's initiative and what they're calling a matter of national security. meanwhile the city of philadelphia joined other cities in filing a legal brief in another case, trying to stop this travel ban. reporting live from the airport, andrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. meanwhile, president trump tonight firing back at what he calls an illegal leak of his tax return. msnbc host rachel maddow revealed part of the president's 2005 tax return on her show last night. the return shows mr. trump paid $38 million in federal income tax on $152 million of reported income. in a fox news interview tonight, the president said the white house is not the source of the leak. >> no idea where they got it. but it's illegal.

and you're not supposed to have it. it's not supposed to have been leaked. it's certainly not an embarrassing tax return at all. but it's an illegal thing. they've been doing it. they've done it before. i think it's a disgrace. >> president trump's first budget for the federal government will be submitted to congress tomorrow. it includes big cuts to the environmental protection agency while boosting defense spending by $54 billion. also included in the plan is $3 billion for the u.s./mexico border wall. take a look at this viewer video of a house on fire at the jersey shore tonight. it broke out on simpson avenue on ocean city. no one was hurt but the flames just destroyed that house. in word yet on a cause. new at 11:00, 1400 homes briefly lost power after a car slammed into this utility pole in chester county earlier tonight. skyforce 10 was over hillandale road in new garden township as crews worked to restore electricity to the area. we're told everyone has their

power back. the widow of a corrections officer killed in a delaware prison is refusing to meet with the governor. instead saundra floyd is earning governor john carney to respond to her family's demands for the autopsy report on lieutenant steven floyd. she wants details on how he died. authorities say prisoners killed lieutenant floyd and held others hostage at that uprising in smyrna lasting month. in a letter to governor carney, mrs. floyd referenced an incident at the prison in 2004 when an inmate took a female correctional officer hostage and sexually assaulted her. she wrote to the governor, "my husband died as a result of the policies of the prison." a spokesperson for governor carney told nbc 10 because of a potential lawsuit against the

state, he can't comment on mrs. floyd's letter. he went on to say the governor hopes to meet with the floyd family. atlantic city's two police unions filed a lawsuit to block the state from cutting pay and imposing longer shifts. it comes on the same day that salaries and lowered, work schedules changed, and a move in the officers' health care plan. just how safe is your e-mail account today? authorities announced four men are responsible for hacking half a billion yahoo! users. nbc 10's brandon hudson shows us why this threat isn't going away and why you need to take cyber security into your own hands. >> reporter: the justice department says one of the largest cyber attacks in history was orchestrated in this building, the headquarters of the russian state security organization fsb in moscow. you may remember the data breach stole the information of 500 million yahoo! users in 2014.

now federal prosecutors have charged four people believed responsible. two fsb officers and two hackers. in an exclusive "today" show interview, matt lauer asked u.n. ambassador nikki haley about the hack. >> it's new and different from things we've seen in the past. >> reporter: tonight we sat down with a security expert who says he expects other companies to discuss protective measures to avoid future data breaches. meantime, you can be proactive too. >> your e-mail is a place where you should not have all your personal information. >> reporter: other suggestions include use long, complicated passwords, turn off gps location services, and all i cloud backups, and delete all e-mails.

they say the russian officers wanted to spy on u.s. diplomats and white house employees. brandon hudson, nbc 10 use. interest rates are on the rise tonight. federal reserve chair janet yellen says the fed's key short term rate will jump a quarter point to 1%. that's the interest rate banks and other lenders charge each other and influences what banks charge consumers for things like mortgage and car loans. the fed is expected to raise rates three more times this year. apparently wall street is in favor of this fed rate hike. the dow fished tnished the day close just shy of 21,000. the nasdaq and s&p 500 were also up. a big win for skateboarders in one montgomery county community. tonight the lansdale parks and rec committee approved plans for a new skate park. officials say design of the 4th street park will be a

and the journey to the ncaa tournament has not been easy for villanova fans at all. nbc 10's keith jones made the trip to buffalo and showed us how the weather is creating a few roadblocks. >> reporter: less than 24 hours away until game time. yet if you look around the lobby at the team hotel, it's empty. team villanova nation is usually well-traveled. by air, hours of delays. winds whipping, no visibility, bone chilling temperatures. a six-hour drive from philly, more like eight. the villanova band, cheerleaders, and alumni hours late getting in. >> a snowplow overturned. we had a couple of whiteouts. we were looking for the markers on the side of the road to see if we were still on the road. >> reporter: meanwhile the

these cars out of the ice. most streets in allentown should be cleared by tomorrow night. at the jersey floor, the flooding is gone but the nor'easter left its mark in the sand. many of the protective dunes were damaged in january but we're told the erosion this time wasn't nearly as bad. another bitterly cold night right here in philadelphia. even louie the dog needed a sweater on his walk in chestnut hill. and his owner was bundled up as well. i feel your pain. i'll be doing that in about half an hour. glenn, the wind is making it feel even worse. >> and it's not about to calm down over the next several hours. tomorrow a windy day too, maybe not quite as windy as today. but you're going to feel it. many of the streets of philadelphia are doing just fine. the main streets. but we still have those issues in driveways, sidewalks, the steps. still a lot of danger out there with the ice that is hanging

around. the temperatures well below freezing to keep that ice from going anywhere. certainly not melting tonight. fleetwood, 23. boyertown, 25. kutztown, 25. allentown, 25. bath at 24. bedlam, 26. eastern nazareth at 25 degrees. they'll be going down into the teens. and the current wind gusts, it's pretty impressive for this hour, 35-mile-per-hour gusts, 36 in wildwood, 37 in atlantic city. it's still windy out there, even in the middle of the night. coatesville feels like 10, allentown 15. mt. pocono feels like 1. at least we got rid of the snow. there was snow across a good bit of the area this afternoon. not really heavy. but just another little layer on

top of the cars and some of the streets, making things even more slippery. as we go through the night tonight, you see some of these temperatures down in the teens. got to watch out for the ice in the morning. and then as we go through the day, a lot of sunshine. but wind, and i'm not expecting the snow showers like what we saw during the day today. temperatures getting into the 30s. we got up to 31 today. we may do a little bit better than that tomorrow. the next system coming in from the west. this is not going to be a major storm. it is with a warm front that's going to be trying to come in friday into saturday. a little bit of snow, lehigh valley, poconos again. and possibly a little bit of a mix in the lehigh valley, and a little rain in the philadelphia area. so it's not a real well-organized system. but i can't exactly promise you that saturday is going to be dry.

elementary for the school's first ever science fair. kindergarteners got to show off their scientific creation that they've been working on for several weeks. that looks great. hats off to the flyers after the team's latest donation to local children's hospitals. the team released some photos posing with 396 flyers hats, donated to patients at shriners hospitals for children. last month flyers fans littered the ice with 396 hats after they thought wayne won a hat check. today he decided to make things right in a big way. the flyers froze out the penguins. >> i like that, they made things right against the flyers on the ice. did the eagles offer malcolm jenkins in a trade? and villanova battling the snow
