s11:00, the first alert >>t is 11:00.area over t we're entering the last weekend, the final weekend of winter, and the season is not done with us yet. today we are warmer and sunnier though. this is a live look at the philadelphia museum of art where temperatures will reach the 40s today. we are in for a change tomorrow. bill henley is here with the most accurate forecast. >> it's melting right now, but it's hard to believe as sunny as it is today we have yet more wet weather on the way and some of it will be snow. you'll not see any of it today. the system we're watching is to the west. it's moving into the ohio valley. some areas will see it start as rain while others colder will see some snow. 5:00 this evening it's still way away from us. you can see sunshine for philadelphia. the melting continues at 5:00,

but this system is going to be moving towards us during the late evening hours and overnight tonight we'll see some light snow develop from philadelphia north and west. philadelphia south and east it's going to be too warm for that. it's going to be rain. on saturday warm air pushes in. it's not going to be all snow. it's not going to be all rain. it's also not going to be all weekend. the weekend forecast calling for those clouds to arrive on saturday. mainly rain in philadelphia during the day on saturday, and 46 degrees. even in the lehigh valley with some snow coming down, the temperature climbs above freezing into the upper 30s, so this is one that's going to see the most accumulation. we're not talking a lot here. the most accumulation beyond those areas that already have kn snow on the ground. new jersey and the shore and delaware more likely to just see rain on saturday. saturday evening the snow starts coming back into the area, and we'll see some lingering snow showers sunday morning. then they're out of here sunday

afternoon. look at those afternoon temperatures. the good news is we've got a nice sunny day before they get here. i'll take a closer look at the weekend hour by hour and show you how much you can expect in your neighborhood when i come back in just a few minutes. days after tuesday's storm people are reporting some close calls from ice chunks smashing into cars. photos that have been sent to nbc10 show the damage to a car on the pennsylvania turnpike in king of prussia. a tractor-trailer hit this man's car. flying ice hit a car driven by a woman on her way to a job interview. >> had no idea like what to do, where to go. i just put my hazards on and tried to get over as fast as i could. >> an extra ten minutes of warming up your car and removing that snow and ice could be life saving. >> workers have been trying to clear ice that's accumulated on

high-rises in center city, philadelphia. this morning investigators are searching for what caused a deadly house fire in pemberton, burlington countye scene firefighters rescued another iro aze under control. hes noticed of an alley. investigators 68th street world heren pamela osborne is live inpam. >> reporter: ha on inside a s a parine mthos meal that they sat share today benefits the pantry and so much more. >> people get to have a fellowship with other people in the community. they get a hot hemeal, and they can come and get some assistance. there are social workers that can help them get connected with insurance, a doctor, whatever they might need. a lot more than breakfast. >> reporter: and there were about 700 people participating today.

[ screaming ] this cell phone video shows a group of teens attacking a group of students from a philadelphia charter school. it happened yesterday at the

septa station of broad and vines. a parent said it started when her son and others tried to stop the teens from throwing ice. >> i was sick and disgusted, heartbroken. i couldn't even breathe to be honest with you. i just -- the whole world stopped turning. >> the boy's mother said her son walked away with some bumps and bruises, but otherwise he's okay. in montgomery county, lower merion, police are trying to find the owners of more than a million dollars worth of stolen gems and other items. police have arrested the thieves. the burglaries date back to 2015. we have a link to the pictures > repeatitte srt to win big in buffalo last night against

people rescued from raging floodwaters in lima, peru. this video isn't the best quality as you can see, but you can see they're using that line to get people stuck in buildings across those fast-moving muddy waters. an unusual amount of rain has been plaguing this country since january. 12,000 homes so far destroyed. happening within the hour, president trump will welcome german chancellor angela merkel to the white house. her visit was postponed from earlier this week because of the winter storm. the two leaders are expected to talk about strengthening the nato alliance, trade, and immigration. the white house is now backing down as opponents and even some allies turn up the heat on president trump's allegations that former president obama ordered a wiretap on trump tower. >> jay gray looks at that and the president's new budget plan.

>> no, no, no. hold on. hold on. hold on. i'm making a point. >> reporter: a high tension political tug of war. >> we've seen no evidence. >> reporter: continues on capitol hill over president trump's accusation that president obama spied on him during the campaign. >> he stands by it -- >> reporter: even though leaders from both parties and the committee the president called on to investigate the situation say there's no proof. >> there's been no evidence from anybody in the intelligence community from law enforcement. >> reporter: citing a list of news reports, white house press secretary sean spicer accused the media of selective coverage and creating its own false narrati narrative. >> the investigation by the house and senate has not been provided all the information. >> reporter: political analysts say mr. trump's staff need to step up. >> a lot of people who work for the president can't quite figure out how to get out of the alley he's led them into by making these claims in specific detail

seem not to be true. >> reporter: that as the administration finds itself defending its first budget plan released yesterday cutting federal aid to spending programs while increasing funds for defense, homeland security, and a border wall. >> budgets are all tradeoffs. in the president proposes a budget. he did exactly what he's required to do by law, but congress has to work through it. >> reporter: the administration continues to battle over a revised executive order that would ban travel from six predominantly muslim countries. federal judges in maryland and hawaii have blocked that measure, but president trump says he'll continue this fight all the way to the supreme court if necessary. jay jay, nbc news washington. secretary of state rex tillerson says a preemptive military strike against north korea maybe needed if that

count country's weapons program reaches a point that requires action. they hope to use sanctions to take north korea to take a different course of action before it reaches that point. and this fire destroyed an apartment building under construction in raleigh, carolina, and damaged ten nearby buildings. the fire started just after 10:00 last night and burned out of control for several hours. firefighters are still working to put out hot spots right now. one firefighter was hurt by breaking glass. several hundred people lost power and many streets near the scene are still closed. getting a nice warmup. look at that beautiful sunshine heading out right now. sunny and warmer than yesterday. still plenty of snow on the ground, but we'll see a good deal of melting tie and helping with the melting is the wind with temperatures above freezing.

though the wind is not as strong as yesterday, itthat's going to accelerate the melting. clouds return tonight and then this evening, late this evening, we'll start to see some pres precipitation move in from the west. some areas will start with snow. others will get rain. but everybody eventually will see some snow over the weekend, i think. 35 right now in the lehigh valley. warming in the suburbs. now up to 30 degrees and 38 degrees in delaware. lagging behind for now, but it will catch up into the 40s this afternoon. already close to 40 degrees in south jersey. the neighborhoods have made some real progress. 50s we'll have to wait until next week, but it is 37 right now in pittman. 38 in lumberton. nice warmup in princeton which had dropped down to 20 first thing this morning. look at the 40s for philadelphia. 44 degrees at 5:00. the clouds start to move in during the evening hours, but it will still be dry at 9:00 this

evening. the suburbs sunshine. it will linger in the low 40s for the suburbs, but with sunshine and temperatures above freezing much of that snow will be melting. it gets cooler tonight at 9:00, but still dry at the 9:00 hour. the lehigh valley with sunshine during the day, you'll see the clouds start to move in during the evening hours. plenty of sunshine and into the middle 40s for delaware by 5:00. it will still be dry during the late evening hours for delaware. new jersey, look at that bright sunshine for new jersey and the shore warming into the 40s for both locations. then back to the 30s tonight. it won't be all that cold tonight, but it will be cold enough for some areas especially north and west of philadelphia to see some snow developing and sticking too. there's the system we're watching. this is a warm front. it's going to bring some warm air with it, but when it arrives, the air will be colder. looking for snow to develop in the lehigh valley. that's 7:00 tomorrow morning.

saturday morning starts off with rain in delaware and south jersey. then the warmup during the day will be enough to push the snow line well to the north. at lunchtime look at the light rain showers for philadelphia and new jersey. just some light snow showers into the pocono mount toiains a just north of the allentown area. after on and off rain showers on saturday, here comes some col r er air. the snow will first make it towards philadelphia by late saturday night and then during the early morning hours on sunday that is some light accumulating snow that is coming into the area. so i'm not looking at a lot of snow for our area. a dusting for the first round first thing on saturday, and then saturday night and into sunday morning look at that snow sfr spread. a dusting for delaware and zsouh jersey. more than 2 inches in possible in allentown. and the ski resorts and

mountains may get 3 or 4 inches of snow out of this one. ten-day on 10 coming up in the next half hour to show you when things warm, how spring is looking for the first week. a new art exhibit in our area is designed to spark a dialogue about the social perceptions of minority groups. it's called "interference," and it's on display at the philadelphia photo arts center. it features the photographic work of two different artists. one of them is joining us today, andre bradley. he's here to tell us more about the exhibit. pretty exciting exhibit, andre. we were talking a little bit off camera about it. tell our viewers what photos they can expect to see. >> so some of the photos viewers can expect to see are photographs from family archives, photographs that i've taken with my own camera, portraits of individuals from our community and portraits of myself. >> is this supposed to send a

different message to people who come and see it? are they supposed to walk away with a different perception? >> yes. i think people are supposed to walk away with a different perception, and i think the perception that i hope they walk away from is that there's an important lesson in looking at your family photographs and yourself as way to kind of reclaim who you are and what you think about yourself out in the world. >> there's some beautiful pieces. >> thank you. >> they really are. you're from philadelphia. tell us a little bit about growing up here, your career, what sparked this photography love in you. >> yep. so, yes, i did grow up in philadelphia, and i was educated in public schools in philadelphia. and i think that that's -- my education here is what really shaped my photographs and thinking about who i am. i grew tup here and going to hih

they're warmer. temperatures are climbing into the 40s, but as we said don't get used to it. >> first alert meteorologist bill henley is here with the most accurate forecast. >> we're about to freshen up the snow in the mountains. camelback getting some sunshine right now. beautiful day for skiing, especially with temperatures warming up. tomorrow accumulating snow for the mountains. it's a weaker system. i know katy is excited for another storm like we had on tuesday. not happening this time around. sorry, katy. doppler radar, we are completely clear. the snow is making some progress. that looks impressive. that's light snow that's falling on columbus. a large area of light snow slowly moving to the east. won't be here during the day today, but we'll start to see the clouds take over during the evening hours. during the day today, lots of sunshine. but tomorrow that's when we'll see the clouds and we'll start off with some rain and snow saturday morning. the snow is destined for those colder areas, the lehigh valley.

ncaa opener in buffalo last night. problems for some citizens bank customers this morning. the bank confirms there's a delay posting direct deposits to accounts. citizens bank blamed it on a vendor and says it is working to fix the problem. president trump is welcoming german chancellor angela merkel to the white house. within the hour, the two leaders will discuss trade and immigration among other things today. the president and chancellor will hold a joint news conference around 1:20 this afternoon. you can watch that live with an nbc news special report right here on nbc10. there are many st. patrick's day observances around our area this morning, but one event in new castle county has special meaning. pamela osborne is live in wilmington to show us and tell us why. hi, pam. >> reporter: hi, katy. a lot of green, a lot of smiling

faces here in wilmington. it started bright and early with a 7:30 mass this morning. there was standing o john carney. police held up traffic so that parishioners could begin their march down north king street to a fundraising breakfast. they provide a variety of services to some of the city's most vulnerable resresidents. about every day 300 people rely on the food, clothing, and a warm place to sleep that st. patrick's officers. they help those who are hungry and homeless. for the 24th year, community members came out to celebrate saint paddy's day and support the good work that the center does for people in need. >> we have about 1500 families every month come to st. patrick's center for emergency food. we have up to 70 people who come in every day for respite who are experiencing homelessness. we have a lot of people who are

relying on the services of st. patrick's center, and we cannot do what we do without the support of the st. patrick's day society, the support of wilmington, and the state of delaware. >> reporter: and some of the seniors as well as families who rely on the cent morning. ge one the british hisonk mill and a philadelphia rail park is ts 4h the connection with the bicentennial. >> i've always said it's such a jewel there on seventh and arch. it preserves african-american history, its culture, its arts. are there other things it celebrates? >> we have a very broad mission. our mission is african-american art history and culture. and what we want to do is bring diverse communities together to celebrate that.

>> tell me about the extent of the training. >> training is multifaceted from strength training in the gym, running, even just your kayaking workouts. you'll train for short distances, do long distance pieces. it's really building up to the level that you need and -- oh, there i am. it's a lot of work. as an athlete, you're training 15, 20 hours a week minimum. >> what are your chances of making the olympic team do you think? >> i've got four years. i've got a lot of work to do after seeing our competition and where it was this past paralympics season. there's work to do. the athletes have gotten faster. the top athletes in europe, we're catching up to them. >> you've got less than four years actually because the olympics are right around the corner. tell us a little bit about the fundraiser tomorrow. >> the fundraiser tomorrow is do it for dyson's dad. this is dyson. it is basically to help me raise

sunshine, not a cloud, and not much wind compared to the last few days. those winds have settled down. wilmington, blue sky and the temperatures are climbing there too. look at this beautiful view in the shore, ocean city, new jersey. the sun is gone at the shore. temperatures already in the low 40s. wood vine, cape may courthouse at 42 degrees. 41 in atlantic city. climbing into the 40s for everyone today. philadelphia sunny skis for center city and chestnut hill. west chester hits 42. and the lehigh valley into the 40s with sunshine. mainly sunny skies. there will be some clouds heading in for tonight, but you'll not see them during the day today. new jersey a bit breezy, but still warming. at the shore ocean city and atlantic city nothing but sunshine, and sunshine warms smyrna to 47.

sunshine today. doppler radar might as well have the day off, but we'll need it this weekend. in fact overnight tonight that's when this will start moving in. that's rain and snow. it's a warm front. it's a little deceiving because it's going to start with some snow for parts of the area, but not everybody is going to see snow to begin with this this system. hour-by-hour forecast, we stay sunny during the day. the clouds -- this is 11:00 tonight -- they're just moving into wilmington and philadelphia. the wet weather is not that far away. 11:00 tonight, harrisburg, a rain-snow mix. the snow will start in the lehigh valley and the suburbs. at 6:00 saturday morning, this is just some light snow. a dusting is possible on saturday morning while rain is falling in delaware and south jersey. then a warmup during the day. and it's not going to be all day rainfall. we'll get some breaks in the precipitation, but it's mainly going to be rain. we've got a little bit of snow first thing in the morning.

much of it will be melting during the day on saturday, but you'll need your umbrella. watch out saturday night. here comes the snow. as it gets colder, that snow will spread into philadelphia or start to at 11:00, even spreading across delaware and south jersey as that rain comes in. by sunday morning, it is already tapering off to the west, and we could see a bit of snow for philadelphia, delaware, and south jersey. really a dusting in delaware and zut g south jersey. much of it is going to be melting during the weekend because the temperatures, the trend is for temperatures in the 40s. below normal for this time of year. the normal is 53 degrees. that's that line. but we'll get closer to normal on monday. coincidentally the first day of spring arrives first thing in the morning at 6:29. we'll get spring-like temperatures not just for

monday, but also for tuesday. but that's where it ends. sunshine for today. 44 this afternoon. 46 with rain in philadelphia. that snow north and west in the morning. then evening snow continues into sunday morning. but again we're not looking at a lot of accumulation at 45 degrees in the afternoon. we'll see some of that melting during the day. springtime on monday. still spring-like on tuesday. it gets colder for wednesday and thursday. another warmup late next week. upper 40s friday. next weekend in the 50s and 60s. we'll be right back.
