nbc 10's andrea thomas joins us live more with now in center city. >> reporter: this is how we're welcoming spring big mounds of dirty snow and ice. it has been a mild winter, but many people are ready to see it go. despite the calendar saying tomorrow marks the first day of spring, winter coats are still required while walking through the city this evening. >> this is not an unusual thing to happen here. in march, to sort of remind you that winter's still out there some place. >> reporter: almost in defiance of the chill in the air, diners chose to eat outside thanks to the warmth of heat lamps. what do you look forward to in spring? what does it represent to you? >> rebirth, flowers, birds returning to the area. >> reporter: that's why an estimated 245,000 people flocked to the pennsylvania convention center for the philadelphia flower show. >> for me this is just like a breath of fresh air. so i'm glad to be at the flower

saw or no. all are wearing dark colored coats. if audiotape closer look, we have the pictures posted on nbc 10.com. and like we mentioned, the fight happened on thursday a teenage boy told nbc 10 he was he noticed a group of teams throwing ice at children. he said he told the group to stop and was then followed into the station, jumped and beaten. new at 11:00, police lit up the neighborhood as police tried to figure out who is responsible for a deadly shooting. detectives used flash flights to search for clues on the snow-covered curbs. police telling us around 7:30 a man was shot twice. he died at the hospital nearly an hour later. now two people two police officers rather and a resident were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out at a south jersey apartment building. it happened at the sycamore ridge. investigators say the officers were hurt when they went into

the building looking for people. all three of the injured were treated for smoke inhalation. new at 11:00 take a look at this. two families are now left without a home after the two homes went up in flames in burlington county. the fire started just after 6:00 in florence township. it took crews a couple of hours to place the fire under control. no one was hurt and we're working to find out what started that fire. also new at 11:00, police are investigating the shooting of a man outside a store in trenton. investigators say the victim was twice or shot twice on the 800 block of the avenue. it happened just before 6:00 tonight. the man was taken to the hospital, we're working to find out how serious his injuries are. and the first alert traffic warning that could impact your morning commute if you drive the pennsylvania turnpike. now the express easy pass lanes at the midcounty interchange will be closed for the next

three weeks. the lanes are close so crews can upgrade overhead electronic tolling equipment. now during the project, drivers can still use the traditional easy pass planes that are next to the express lanes. police in delaware county are looking for the person who fired a shot that hit a police officer's car this afternoon. that officer was in his personal car when it was struck by a bullet near ninth and tillman streets in chester. the officer was not hurt. well tonight, a two-year-old girl is recovering after being hit by a car this afternoon. philadelphia police saying a driver hit the driver in southwest philadelphia and then just took off. the girl was taken to children's hospital of philadelphia where she is in stable condition. a federal judge who blocked president trump's revised travel ban rejected the justice department's request for clarification. according to court records, the judge said there's nothing

south carolina group stirred up controversy at the site of ncaa tournament games when they flew a large confederate flag above a parking garage in greenville. members of the south carolina secessionist party say they want lawmakers to speed up the process of finding a permanent home for the confederate flag that flew across the dome. they lifted a boycott against south carolina back in 2015 after the flag was permanently removed from the state house grounds. the organization issued a statement reading in part we are committed to assuring that our events are safe and accessible to all no symbols

that compromise that commitment will be permitted to be displayed on venue properties at the tournament controls. well surprise winning new york city newspaper columnist has died. a family friend says he died at his manhattan home this morning after falling ill with pneumonia. he worked for decades at several newspapers including the new york daily news. he won the prize for commentary in 1986. he was famously contacted by son of sam killer david berk wits promising more murders. he was 88 years old. house speaker paul ryan says he'd like to see some changes made to the proposed gop health care bill to offer more help to older people who are not yet eligible for medicare. ryan insisted he felt good about bill's prospects but acknowledged house leadership was making improvements to the bill to reflect people's concerns. now house vote is scheduled for

thursday. fire and floods are big concerns tonight in the western part of the country. homes are threatened by a wild fire in boulder, colorado while the northwest could see more severe flooding. steve patterson reports. >> reporter: with more than 60 acres burned, the flames are hopping dust above a row with min medical school containment. further west wet weather makes for shocking scenes subdivisions transformed into residential rivers streets that look like ve knee shan canals and parts of washington. portland, swept away. >> not something you expect on your daily commute to work. >> reporter: three men survive uninjured after a hillside collapsed. the warning heard across the region conditions are primed for more. >> we have had so much rain this entire winter and when we get rain like that the earth moves. >> reporter: this week there's more rain in the forecast.

and tonight people were treated to a performance of 12 angry men. the courtroom drama follows a 12-man jury as they decide the fate of a teenager accused of murdering his father. the show was put on by the philadelphia theater company and directed by wbas afternoon drive radio personality. two more shows will be at the venice island performing arts and recreation center on tuesday and wednesday. well getting one toddler to sleep can be tough enough, but two. that is double trouble. and these two seem to have the night of their lives. take a look. this is time lapse video from the nannamy cam. now they both climb out of the crib and over to the couch, moving pillows with dancing around the room. this went on for seven hours. when they should be sleeping. mom and dad, they were sleeping through most of the pajama party. dad only coming in into the room once overnight to put the boys back into their cribs. now that did not last long.
