setback. let's listen to him. >> moving from an opposition party to a governing party comes with growing pains. we're feeling those growing pains today. >> ryan said he told the president the bill should be pulled and mr. trump agreed. just yesterday, though, the president demanded this vote today. saying if it failed he would leave obamacare in place. as for local reaction republican congressman frank lobiando released this statement. planned to vote no today on this specific obamacare replacement bill. but it is not a declaration that obamacare should stay. it shouldn't. obamacare has failed on a host of key metrics promised to south jersey residents and i remain committed to repeal. again, speaker ryan says the nation will be living with obamacare now for the foreseeable future. that's the latest live in the breaking news center until we hear more from washington, i'm jim rosenfield. >> thank you. the president also saying he's

going to turn his attention to, quote, probably tax reform. we're going to continue to follow developments in washington for the next 90 minutes. on nbc nightly news, with lester hold at 6:30. now, to south jersey where police are trying to figure out who killed a mother and a young child overnight in maple shade. the father found his family stabbed to death. >> cydney long joins us live from the fox meadow apartments just off of route 73. what have you found out? >> reporter: i can tell you there are no arrests, no one in custody for questioning at this time. and no word from investigators on a possible motive. it's now been 20 hours since the husband came home to this first floor apartment to find his wife and his son murdered. detectives spent the day going door to door asking a lot of questions and taking notes to solve this mystery. >> i'm horrified. >> reporter: dexter stevenson can't imagine why anyone would want to harm let alone kill an

innocent boy and his mom. police say they were stabbed multiple times. the husband and father came home from work thursday to find them and called police. >> you don't expect this right outside your front door. you know. then you hear of a child being involved. that's horrible. >> i just been trying to like, see what's going on. because like i said i have a kid myself. it's a scary situation. >> reporter: investigators swabbed for clues and carried large bags of evidence from the apartment. before dawn they used flash lights to search dumpsters. a source confirms investigators have not recovered the murder weapon and that the husband's alibi of being at work when the crime was committed is solid. >> whenever children are involved, it's more severe. >> reporter: residents are shocked and saddened, a mother and young son are gone. >> we're doing the best that we can to stay on top of one another as far as tenants.

but what is management going to do? >> reporter: until a killer is caught they're worried for their own safety. >> i like to know what took place. i would like to know if there's an individual outside of the family who they are. >> reporter: now, meantime, word of the double murder from inside the small apartment spread quickly to india where the family is from. investigators here locally say there is nothing to tell them that this could be a possible hate crime. after collecting evidence for about 16 hours, the crimes unit pulled up their crime tape and left the apartment complex an hour ago. cydney long, nbc 10 news. thank you. tonight commuters along the northeast corridor dealing with delays after this two trains clipped one another in new york's penn station. >> new jersey transit said it will operate out bound trains from new york. the train bound for washington with a stop in philadelphia,

partially derailed this morning as it pulled out of the station. it scraped the side of a new jersey transit train that was pulling into the station. no one seriously hurt here. we'll have a report from new york city coming up at 5:30. now to a guilty verdict today for the woman accused of kidnapping a baby from the king of prussia mall. sharia moore caught on video, snatching the 7 week old baby from the food court a year ago. the 33-year-old made no comment as she walked out of court today. she's expected to be sentenced later this year. now to this weather. finally, finally finally, you don't need that heavy coat. tomorrow it will even be warm enough to walk here on this beach in cape may hard to believe. >> i know it. tammie souza is tracking the weather conditions in your neighborhood. thank goodness. >> you know what? that was three finallies wow:

clouds have been drifting, a lot of cloud cover in the lehigh valley and berks county. we've seen sprinkles and this morning we had a light mix. not a real big deal. right now we are looking at 58 degrees. that's as warm as we've been all day in philly. the winds are gusting out of the southwest at 20 miles per hour. that's a good thing. we want the southwest winds to warm us up. our average on today's date is 56. so for the week, we generally have been up and down. sort of like a little bit of a roller coaster. yesterday was rather chilly. 58 the high so far today. it's tomorrow that you are really going to get excited about. we'll be looking at temperatures overnight tonight that generally stay in the 50s. we'll see the mid40s in the out lying areas and we'll launch ourselves towards the magical 70s. after that, you know, not so much. we'll talk about all of it when i come back with a full forecast. thank you, president trump said today is a great day for american jobs after signing off

on construction of the key stone xl pipe line. the president made that announcement this morning. it reverses the decision made by the obama administration, obama rejected the project because of its impact on environment and climate change. president trump says it will lower costs and spur economic development. >> today we take one more step in putting the jobs, wages and economic security of american citizens first. put america first. >> when it is finished, the pipeline will carry oil from canada through montana all the way to refineries on the texas gulf coast. nearly 4,000 jobs are expected to be created over two years. tonight former trump campaign chairman paul manafort is volunteering to speak with a panel that's looking into russia's alleged involvement in the 2016 election. they say manafort's legal

counsel is offering lawmakers the chance to interview him. th . tonight we're getting our first look at the man behind the deadly attack in london on wednesday. khalid masood is a british born muslim convert. intelligence officers say they knew he was a criminal but didn't seem to pose a threat. police are trying to figure out why he plowed a call into people on the westminster bridge. masood was shot and killed, four people died. in gloucester county one man is dead after police responded to a report of shots fired early this morning. police say they found kenneth mosley's body early this morning in clayton. two other adults and kids were inside that house at the time. they were not hurt. they're doing an autopsy to figure out how he died.

that is the sound of a hadden township police officer shooting a man. police say the man was justified. it started as a traffic stop in october of last year. the man drove off with the police officer clinging to the door. during this struggle, the officer shot the man in the leg. a philadelphia judge denied a request to stop the retrial of monsignor william lynn, he was the first church official convicted in the clergy sex abuse scandal. they say he helped the archdiocese transfer problem priests. he was released last august. allegations of voter intimidation in a local special election, that's next. traffic trouble, what you need to know about road closures for several big events in philadelphia this weekend. >> stolen super bowl jerseys, a special delivery, next.

healthcare bill vote from the house floor just minutes before a scheduled vote. house speaker paul ryan called it a disappointing day for republicans. it was pulled after it didn't get enough support from its own political party. >> president trump had lingering doubts the job would be easy he's getting a reminder that being the leader of the world is anything but. it's hard. and as republicans pull their obamacare replacement bill after it fails to garner enough support after just 18 days, the question becomes, how will the republican party sort itself out? after this early big failure for this administration? and frankly, for the entire party? >> chuck todd will break down all of today's developments on "meet the press," that's sunday morning at 10:30 here on nbc 10. now, to an election

controversy in philadelphia. the votes are in and counted. >> tonight the election fraud task force launched an investigation into the special election of 197th legislative district in philadelphia. the district represents hunting park and feltenville. aundrea cline-thomas looks into why there were concerns about the results. >> received 280 write in votes. emelia valazquez received 1,964. >> reporter: with that, emealio valazquez was declared the winner for tuesday's special election. vasquez won in a land slide but was not present to hear the republicans. the attorney for the democratic party monitored the tabulation on his behalf. >> we're thankful it's over. >> reporter: not so fast says green party opponent. >> i want an entire new special election. that's what i want. >> reporter: in a letter to city

commissioners she announced plans to file a federal lawsuit after alleging fraud and misconduct at poling places including voter intimidation. she said there's video to prove it. we asked the commissioner about the concerns. was this a fair election? >> every election is bumpy. >> reporter: today the district attorney's task force launched an investigation into the allegations. they're asking people to come forward with evidence. >> it's absolutely overwhelming what the voters wanted. they wanted emealio vasquez. >> reporter: in a district that's trying to move on after leslie acosta pled guilty to embezzlement. chaos continues. >> i had this election, it was a slam dunk. they stole the election and that's what happened. >> reporter: aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. nbc 10 follow up story.

something we told you about yesterday at 5:00. al today rutgers university says it will still offer $35,000 a year to this year's kmengsmecomt speaker. lawmakers want to introduce a bill capping what universities can pay speakers. it was caused by snookie's $32,000 fee for her speech in 2011. tonight the annual weight watchers battle of the badges is back. the weight loss competition between the two departments starts on sunday but the weigh in happened today. that department with the highest average weight loss will take home a trophy, weight watchers will donate $10,000 to charity in the name of the winning department. tonight a celebration, 35 years in the making. ♪

streets will be closed in center city on sunday for the love run, half marathon. the ben franklin parkway will close from 4:00 a.m. to about noon. the parkway up to logan circle will be limited to traffic. at least tomorrow will be great to spend time outside. >> fantastic. nbc 10 first alert meteorologist tammie souza is here. >> i think the better day is probably going to be tomorrow. it's going to be cooler though. if you get really sweaty and you don't want to deal with that. it will be cooler on sunday. both days could see a sprinkle. take a look at the temperatures, we should be at 56, we're 58. philly with a mix of sun and clouds. 54 in the suburbs. look at how pleasant it is. you can see the clear sky, a little bit of cloud cover there. new jersey, inland new jersey, you're looking at the 50s and clear skies. we go to lehigh valley and see more cloud cover there and that's the way it's been all day long. finally, delaware, high clouds are moving through. 58 there.

it shaped up to be a pretty decent day despite we had sprinkles and a little bit of a mix here in the out lying areas this morning. that's long gone. right now the beam isn't picking anything up as we sweep the skies. you can see the doppler radar is giving us the all clear. far to the west, look at this huge vacant area. that real estate is high pressure. you have this big storm system that's arching up and over. the high pressure has kept us in very fine weather the last couple of days. moving off to the east. it's not going to protect us much longer. you see just this big stream of moisture that's flowing through. that's also a huge demarcation line. take a look at this, i normally don't show you the temperatures way way out west. but it is 80 in chicago. 81 today. jux juxtapose to 48 in minneapolis. get excited. these southerly winds are headed our wait. not 80 but we're talking about 70s across much of the area.

52 in coatesville, 57 in vineland with the 58 in philly. we'll take you through what's going to happen across the area. this evening we'll be dropping down into the 50s. i think overnight we hang on to the 50s in philly. if you're out toward mount pocono it will be the 40s. we have the storm system that's beginning to approach. it's off to the estwitwest. 60 in reading tomorrow morning at 9:30. we could see sprinkles in the afternoon. look at the low 70s across the area unless you're up here. mount pocono, then you'll see more cloud cover, maybe a few sprinkles. tomorrow night we could see scattered showers across the area. there comes the rain a little earlier than we thought on saturday night instead of just sunday. we get a good down pour saturday night and clear out a bit on sunday. but look at the temperature difference. we go from the 70s to the 40s.

we could literally be dropping 25-30 degrees. it is back door cold front that will slide through and crash the second half of our weekend. this pattern of showers on and off continues all the way through tuesday. so keep the umbrella handy. here's where we'll be looking for the next three days. 70 on saturday across philly. 59 on monday. we'll see rain on sunday and monday it could start late on saturday. for the suburbs, pennsylvania suburbs, 67 on saturday with a scattered shower. 47 on sunday. 53 on monday. we get to the lehigh valley. pretty much the same thing. you see showers, only the 60s there for tomorrow. then the 40s and near 50 on monday. we go into new jersey, 68, 50, 45. you can see saturday, jersey shore, it will be pleasant but you'll get a little bit of an onshore bridge. it won't be 70 there. in delaware, you're cranking out

now to breaking news on the healthcare bill pulled just before it was scheduled to vote. we'll take a live look outside capitol hill. president trump says he would be open to working with congress on healthcare again if obamacare

quote, explodes. >> nbc 10's jim rosenfield has the latest now from the breaking news center. jim? >> by early this afternoon it became clear that the votes just weren't there. even as gop leadership and the white house made last ditch attempts to convince conservative and moderate to support the bill. it looked as if they were nearly a dozen votes short. looking live at capitol hill where those lawmakers spent the day scrambling to find the votes for this failed bill. this is the first major legislative defeat for president trump. he says republicans pulled the bill because they lacked the support to get it done. late this afternoon in the oval office he called the vote close but he admitted he just couldn't get this bill passed without democratic support. he insisted it was a sound bill. but he said that pulling it could actually turn out to be a good thing. >> very close. it was a very, very tight margin. we had no democrat support.

of their congressman's office. frustration during rush hour following this morning's derailment at penn station. one of the two trains was headed from new york to philadelphia. here's a live look at 30th street station. there are delayed expected in philadelphia and for new jersey transit. nbc's mark santia has more on the derailment. >> reporter: acela express train rolling out of penn station the train derailed side swiping an oncoming train that was pulling into penn. >> i looked direct to me and the window had blown in this close to my face. it hadn't hit me thankfully but blew my ears out. >> reporter: sitting next to his wife jordan heard the boom and saw the windows pop out. >> the jolt was so bad, seemed to lift the train off its tracks

briefly. >> reporter: we saw investigators canvassing the tracks collecting evidence. jordan snapped these photos of the damage as he got off the train. nearly 1,300 passengers evacuated off the two trains. there were no serious injuries but frightening moments for jordan. >> you start realizing something scary that happened close to us. i'm still shaking. >> that was mark santia reporting. no one on board the train was hurt. now, we want to get to the breaking news out of bucks county. a commercial building on fire. these are live pictures from sky force 10. and you can see the size of that fire. this is at a metal manufacturing company called metal finishing corporation on state road. no injuries we're being told. but look at the size of this fire. a pretty significant warehouse as well. you can see firefighters there

now this hour than we were yesterday. yes, we are going in the right direction. in fact, the temperature has climbed above our average of 56 for this date. 58 in philly. 43 mount pocono. 60 at mount holly. 55 in wilmington. 58 in delaware. atlantic city, 57. not too shabby. we are going upward away from those 40s where we were parked for so long. over night tonight, rain is going to develop. this is our real time model. and we do have storm systems off to the west of us. and we could see a few sprinkles north of the area tonight. overnight tonight we basically see increasing clouds. we're going to generally stay in the metro area along the jersey shore into delaware. we're going to stay in the 50s. you have to get out into the suburbs, you have to get out to mount pocono to see temperatures in the 40s. when i come back, we'll talk about something called a backdoor cold front. there will be a quiz. >> we're going to make sure we

take notes, thank you so much. tonight, a youth hockey coach faces criminal charges. he's accused of having sexual contact with minors. nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter tim furlong reports on the investigations that dates back decades. >> the defendant's arrest does not mark the end of this investigation. >> reporter: the case against former hockey coach walter tracy farington has been a long time in the making. he lives in pennsylvania but prosecutors say he molested boys in the early 90s. >> to the victims that have come forward, we applaud your courage and fortitude in the face of these traumatizing incidents. >> reporter: i got a look at the court documents in delaware. it says he dated the victim's mother and when she went to florida, he watched the 12-year-old boy. documents so he would each time

apologize to the boy and tell him this was to be their secret and nobody would understand. the allegations from new jersey look pretty similar. he is now out on bail and prosecutors say he's been coaching as recently as 2010 in delaware, new jersey, new york, pennsylvania, and vermont. they believe there are more victims out there. police hope they come forward. if only to get the help they might need. >> the devastation that this individual caused to these young individuals is something that they unfortunately will carry with them for the rest of their lives. >> reporter: tim furlong, nbc 10 news. here's a look at some of the stories making headlines county by county across our region. cape may county, three people are accused of breaking into 23 cars in cape may. a live look right there. new jersey state police says the trio have stolen money, electronics, jewelry and credit card going back to october. they could be responsible for car break ins in other south

take a look at these huge flames in bucks county. this is our breaking news. black smoke billowing, state road at a metal finishing corporation. no reported injuries. sky force 10 is with us right now. dan, how are firefighters attacking the heavy flames? >> reporter: they're actually from here you can see that they have four ladder trucks and they're fighting it from all sides. one ladder truck on the front, two on the side and there is one on the back you can't see behind this black smoke that is fighting this fire. state road, we also have about another five or six fire trucks that seem to be just standing by. i'm sure there there as resources. as we depart from penn's landing 15 miles from here you could see the smoke. >> again, we want to reinforce

free for fans of all ages. let's talk about the road closures. they'll start april 10th. some of these closures will last until may 7th. almost a month. a lot of the museums along the parkway are going to have extended hours and offer specials during the three day party for the nfl draft. and crews have already started preparing for the big event. the city's office of emergency management tweeted this video of tents and port a potties near the art museum. >> tammie souza joins us now. we want to bottle up tomorrow's warm weather. no? well, you know what? >> why don't we just sort of keep a little bit of it handy for later on. we don't want to take it all at once. tomorrow we'll get a gift from mother nature as you alluded to. it's going to go away on sunday. i did tell you about a back door cold front. look at the beam sweeping the

sky. nothing going on in the nphilly area. we have a huge ridge of high pressure that is blocking the storm system today. it doesn't happen tomorrow it starts to move into our area. you can see it arching right on over philly. this morning we had a few sprinkles from an early piece of energy cresting around that big ridge of high pressure. here's what's going to go on. this is the interesting part. high pressure starts sliding off to the east. do you notice the winds coming in out of the south? they'll take us to the 70s unless you're north and west of the metro. watch what happens, see all the yellow lines, all those arrows, the wind, all of a sudden we start to see some of them turn more to the north and east. you still have some down here in delaware, south jersey maybe even philly coming out of the southwest. that's the cold front that's starting to slide through the area. it's going to go backwards it will come more from the northeast and not from the west and north the way we typically see. you can see there's a difference in where the air masses are

coming. you'll be a little cooler, 60s tomorrow. if you're going to be north and west of the metro you'll see the 70s from the metro south and southwest of the area and out to south jersey. we also get some rain, perhaps moving in here in the afternoon, some sprinkles. this continues into sunday. then everybody starts to see winds that are going to be turning generally out of the east and that's going to be a much cooler air mass coming in right off the water. this continues on and off with showers through monday. so i didn't want to get your hopes up too much about the big warm up tomorrow. the beautiful 70s. things will go away by the time we get into sunday. we go back to the 40s. here's our realistic sky model. i want to take you to where we'll be across the area tonight. we'll be in the 40s and 50s across the area. maybe a few sprinkles overnight north and west of the city. we are going to be looking tomorrow at some 70s, some 60s inland. again, we may see a shot of quick rain or a sprinkle coming through in the afternoon. i think the warmth is going to

suarez hit by a $51,000 refund demand with no explanation. no appeal and no repayment plan offered. the state said she'd received duplicate funds. >> george, your story is the one that got the ball rolling. >> reporter: deputy majority leader took note. turns out hundreds of homeowners in the reconstruction, rehabilitation, elevation and mitigation program, or r.e.m. faced the same clawback demand. what was your reaction? >> outrageous. no one down the shore is making a windfall from this. >> reporter: his bill was introduced in the assembly and senate just yesterday. it would not prevent the department of community affairs from seeking refunds from overpayment. they are required to do that under federal law. but it would change the process. offering impacted homeowners an explanation of how the refund was calculated. a chance to appeal and most

that breaking news right now at 6:00, this building fire in bucks county, sky force 10 flying over the flames that have been burning f40 minutes. this is at a company called metal finishing corporation.

dan kant is up in sky force 10. he's been watching the flames for quite a while. doesn't look like they've got this under control. >> reporter: there is still flames on this left side of the building here, which they were not here when we first started covering this fire. the fire actually started in what appeared to be on the right side of the building, you can see it seemed to have died down but has been slowly moving to the left. as we've been here we've also been seeing a steady stream of fire equipment arriving to this location. state road over here is closed and you can see that there is just about half a dozen fire trucks here just standing by and providing water and supply and equipment and personnel to help fight this fire. >> dan, you had mentioned you could see the smoke for many miles as you made your way towards the scene. you have not scene any evidence and we are not finding out any evidence of any injuries from this fire? >> we haven't seen any evidence or any injuries.
