in the cross fire and neighbors walk away with the cash. aundrea cline-thomas joins us live to walk us through what happened here, aundrea? >> reporter: imagine this -- a man comes into a laundromat with a life. he demands the store owner gives him $2,000. when the coast is clear, police say the store owner grabbed his gun and tried to get his money back. the surveillance video shows the 42-year-old thief wearing what looks like a green jacket running away from the launder center on north 5th street, he drops the thousands of dollars he's stolen while being chased by the store owner, who has a gun. >> i saw one of the guys running with this pack of money. when this guy ran he told him three times "stop, stop, stop." >> reporter: the thief rounds the corner and the owner unleashes five rounds. >> next thing you know i hear boom, boom, boom. >> reporter: two shots hit the thief in the chest. a 51-year-old woman gets caught in the cross fire and is shot twice in the left hand. >> people running north, south,

west, east and all of a sudden we're like wait, why are people coming back? they see the money flying in the air. >> reporter: area residents swarm the sidewalks picking up the cash that's lying on the ground. >> all the money was scooped up be i the people in the area. >> reporter: police arrived quickly, the thief and innocent woman were taken to the hospital. police say the store owner has a license to carry and is cooperating, but all that money, about $2,000, is gone. it's unclear if it is self-defense. it's clear the thief will face charges but right now he is in the hospital and he's in critical condition, that innocent woman is stable. reporting live from police headquarters, aundrea cline-thomas, nbc 10 news. tonight in wilmington, the investigation into what sparked a major fire downtown is just getting started.

drew smith is live on market street. drew? >> reporter: it still smells like smoke and the presence of the smoke has triggered a fire alarm down here. i want to show you the damage to the store front. the speaker store a complete loss. the apartments above it also a loss and these apartments right next to it had to be evacuated today and the people who live there had to find a different place to sleep tonight. a dreary day made worse by thick plumes of smoke billowing for hours in every direction from a speaker store. >> it seems surreal. like when i came out end of days type scenario. it was crazy. it was crazy. >> reporter: a police officer alerted the o'dell family to the danger. >> as soon as the cop was banging on the door he wouldn't even let us grab extra stuff, he just said "come on, let's go, you have to go." >> reporter: they live in the apartments on this block but

a new york man is under arrest accused of raping an 11-year-old girl in lehigh county. police say the 33-year-old man met the victim online and twice picked up the girl and raped her inside a lehigh valley hotel. he's being held at lehigh county jail. delaware state police are looking for a hit-and-run driver accused of killing a pedestrian in bear. police say it happened near the juevo rodeo restaurant on fire dancer lane around 1:30 this morning. investigators say a person driving an s escalade in the parking lot and took off. tonight we're learning about the plans of seth williams as he faces charges that include charges of bribery and corruption. as aundrea cline-thomas reports, a local activist group is calling for immediate change. >> we're beyond the stage of asking seth williams to resign,

we are demanding for him to leave. >> reporter: calls for district attorney's seth williams' resignation will get louder on monday morning. black lives matter is organizing a protest outside of the district attorney's center city office. >> we plan on blocking the doors to the office and we plan on blocking the streets. we want to send a clear message to not only seth williams but to all politicians that you work for us. >> black lives matter joins a chorus of politicians and organizations who are calling for the district attorney to step down after being indicted on federal corruption charges. this is what mayor kenney said last week. >> he cannot conduct the duties and responsibilities of his office in this current condition so for the good of the office, he should step aside. >> reporter: the fraternal order of police has had a contentious relationship with williams and has been vocal about wanting him out which in an unlikely twist puts black lives matter and the fop on the same page.

tonight it was more about just football at lincoln financial field as the home of the eagles hosted a special day for special fans. it was the eighth annual huddle up for autism event at the link. the day was filled with fun activities and exercises and it benefited the center for autism research. we spoke with kids and parents at the event who say it's an experience they can have together something not always easy to find for families with a child on the autism spectrum. >> kids with autism get easily overwhelmed in big crowded situations or places where there's a lot of activity or noise. >> you see a child having a tantrum or having a breakdown, it's more like, hey, do you need help? you feel supported. you don't feel like you're singled out. >> we want to give awareness to everyone and let everyone know they're not alone.

the sights and sounds of chinatown were on display today. does everyones of parade watchers lined the streets as large puppets and ceremonial chinese folk acts made their way along the parade route. hundreds of runners and walkers hit the street in west philadelphia to support the fight against colon cancer. the annual get your rear in gear run and walk is the region's largest colon cancer awareness event. the money raised supports local efforts against colon cancer. today the sound of the buzzer was a show of bravery. >> ready? here we go. young and old participated in the shave for the brave fund-raiser. it's put on by the st. ba baldrick's foundation. by gaving their heads it gives them a taste of what it's like

to live with cancer and lose your locks. today's event at connie mack's irish pub in pennsauken is raising money for childhood cancer research. brave, indeed. dozens of dogs are safe in the u.s. after they were rescued from a south korean meat farm. 46 dogs of all shapes and sizes arrived at jfk airport this afternoon. the dogs were met with hugs from volunteers with the humane society and some of them will come to philadelphia shelters and be put up for adoption. the humane society has helped save more than 800 dogs from south korean farms. next on nbc 10 news at 11:00, septa taking action. what the transit agency is doing on all trains during rush hour tomorrow following fights like this one. plus, paying tribute. we'll show you how england honored the lives lost during a possible terror attack as the country remains on high alert.

mask. the first crews arrived around 2:00 and began spraying the heavy flames with water. when they tried to cut their way past a security door they realized how intense this was. the fire chief made the decision to defensively douse the flames from the outside. the sneaker store was not opened today. no one was hurt but many families had to evacuate the surrounding apartments and find a new place to stay. >> it was black smoke at the time. filled with so much you couldn't see past 4th street on market. it was that dark. >> we're worried about collapse so we're being cautious. >> reporter: fire marshals are beginning the investigation into what sparked the fire but they were delayed because of the intense fire fight that took hours. you can expect this street to be closed into tomorrow morning's commute. in wilmington, drew smith, nbc 10 news. president trump today attacked conservative lawmakers in his own party for the failure

and vineyards. a group of parolees showed up to a texas probation office expecting to work today. instead, federal immigration agents arrested them for being undocumented. an immigration and customs enforcement bus pulled up and those arrested were taken to an i.c.e. facility in dallas where they will be processed and some possibly released. the secret service who says a woman who got tangled up by her shoe laces trying to jump the white house fence last week was arrested again for a similar front. around 2:15 this morning she was scaling a fence next to the treasury building next to the white house. on tuesday she tried jumping the white house fence. the prince car -- prince car-nation is mourning the loss of one of their own.

the 42-year-old david field's car went airborne and into and a wall. he died at the scene. tensions are flying high after an airline would not allow two young girls on a plane because they were wearing leggings. it started this morning at an airport in denver. another woman traveling separately tweeted when she overheard a united attendant telling the girls they could not get on board. now, the girls were pass riders who fly under employee pass privileges. united is defending its decision saying there's a dress code for pass riders but regular riders can wear whatever they want but. it's gotten thousands of responses, mostly negative toward the calling for an apology to people saying they're cancelling flights. 10,000 runners from across the country are taking part in today's philadelphia love run.
