following him with his own gun. it's when they're around this corner here he shoots that man twice, hitting him in the chest. five to six shots clearly heard by workers from inside a local pizza shot in the kitchen. cooks take cover. >> as soon as i got to the front of my door, i saw all this money coming around flying around. >> police say yesterday this laundromat was robbed. the thief had a knife but didn't count on his victim grabbing a gun and chasing the thief. he drops the bag of cash as the two rundown 5th and that's when the business owner shoots the robber hitting him twice in the chest. >> right now we're going under the assumption or self-defense. that individual came -- the offender came into the store to rob the store owner of point of knife. >> reporter: police say the gun was legal and he had a permit to carry. even though the business owner

stopped the robber he was still robbed. this time by people on the street. >> people running north, south, west, east and all of a sudden, wait, why are people coming back. they seen the number flying in the air. >> reporter: they haven't identified these people. surveillance video obtained by nbc10 news their faces are clear. you can see his wife trying to get her cash back in the video when someone pulls it from her and takes off. police say these people will be investigated too but offer up a chance for redemption by saying give the money back. >> this is probably one of your neighbors, probably a store that you frequent daily, if not weekly and this is this guy's livelihood. >> reporter: now witnesses tell us some of those people that came and stole the money from right here on the sidewalk, they came from blocks away. that business owner was back at work today, although he does say he's now in fear that somebody's going to show up to retaliate. reporting live in north philadelphia, deanna durante,

nbc10 news. turning to our weather a dreary day out there around much of the region nbc10 university city as these people were out and about near 39th and walnut. taking a live look from very cloudy skies over the philadelphia museum of art. it's looking pretty overcast out there. >> the west stretch of weather to start our week isn't done just yet. first alert radar is tracking the threat for thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon and looking across the delaware river behind us, overcast, gray skies and a big change in temperatures, a contrast depending on where you're watching right now. >> not good. we do have first alert neighborhood weather chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking the changes. after the weekend we're getting used to these changes, glenn. >> and starting to get used to the clouds too. we had quite a bit of it yesterday, we got it today and we're going to have it tomorrow too. it's 57 degrees in philadelphia now only 52 degrees in allentown

but look to the south. 71 in dover, 70 in mill vil, 70 atlantic city, 70 in wildwood. that temperature 24 degrees warmer in dover and vineland than it was at this time yesterday, atlantic city 27 degrees warmer, but in allentown, it's only 9 degrees warmer than it was yesterday. the afternoon high, saturday 77, sunday 45. that's one of the biggest drops in march temperatures that we have ever seen and then it's going to be going up over the next couple of days, but not to these kinds of levels in southern delaware, 72 in georgetown, 74 in millsboro and in milton, 75 in lewes delaware and long neck. delaware's going to stay warm

tomorrow, other places will not and that means delaware has the best chance of getting thunderstorms. meteorologist tammie souzza has more on that threat. >> it sounds so nice and warm we'll go there. right now we're looking at spotty showers across the area. not a real big deal. none of this is a heavy down pour and you can see that off to the northwest of philly, we have a few scattered showers also. off to the north and west of coatesville. what's going on. we have a storm system coming out of arkansas that's pushing all of this in our direction. the clouds even a warm front and that's the one that he talked about that buy secretaried the area where we have the really warm area and mild seasonal air. what we're going to be looking at hour by hour is the clouds increasing tonight. spotty showers are going to continue overnight tonight. this is 11:30 tonight. take a look at the timeline. 7:00 tomorrow morning we'll have clouds and maybe patchy fog.

as we race through the early afternoon, you saw it there, some heavier down pours. these are isolated in nature and especially south and east of the city, we could be looking at some isolated thunderstorms. i think the best thunderstorm activity as glenn pointed out is where we're going to see the warmest air. if that warm front moves north of us, then i think the metro area could be in on some of that action as well. keith. >> the white house is ready to take action against so-called sanctuary cities. >> they make our nation less safe by putting dangerous criminals back on the streets. >> attorney general jeff sessions said today he will begin punishing sanctuary cities by withholding federal money. sanctuaries cities offer safe harbor for undocumented citizens. philadelphia is one of them. lauren mayk. >> defiant about maintaining

philadelphia's sanctuary city status. what's he saying now? >> reporter: this is likely to end up in court. i just spoke with him about an hour ago. he has not had a chance to talk with police and other city officials about exactly what this will mean but we know there are new consequences being spelled out by the attorney general that the federal government could actually claw back federal grant money that has already been handed out adding to the financial pressure. >> i strongly urge our nation's states and cities and counties to consider carefully the harm they are doing to their citizens by refusing to enforce our immigration laws and to rethink these policies. >> reporter: attorney general sessions says sanctuary city policies makes cities less safe. they'll have to comply with the rules to get federal grant money from the justice department and money can be taken away if they don't. now in philadelphia, the mayor says the answer is simple,

federal agents just need to get a warrant for the person they want and then city officials will turn them over. >> we will devise a strategy to deal with the money side of it but whether we're right or wrong, i have no doubt that we're right. >> reporter: and the mayor is now waiting for the federal government to really make the next move here. he also said that the administration is now trying to change the subject after what happened with the health care bills in washington. live in center city, i'm lauren mayk, nbc10 news. >> and president trump signed several bills into law this afternoon, the bills nullify regulations imposed during the last month's of the obama administration, among them is an order aimed at streamlining the executive branch of the government. >> new jersey governor chris christie will have a job in the trump administration afterall. a white house official says he'll work in an opioid task force. he is dedicating his final year

in government to curbing prescription drug addiction in new jersey and christie focused on repairing roads and creating jobs in the garden state. he's allowing $400 million to repair roads, bridges and new jersey transit. during the announcement union members held signs, jersey jobs to celebrate jobs that will be created with new road projects. they'll projects planned in all 21 counties. >> the u.s. women's hockey team after the team threatened to boycott the two sides are negotiating here in philadelphia. the team pushed back its training camp schedule and cancelled any exhibition game in the wake of contract talks last week. the women are threatening to boycott the world championships which start on friday. reports suggest members of the u.s. men's hockey team could join such a boycott if the board votes down the deal. >> for the third time in recent months a synagog in the may fair

section is cleaning up after vandalism. they found a broken window. the synagog was vandalized in dirs and january. its members are shaken. >> no other church was damaged in this area, just us. >> reporter: it's upsetting? >> there have been no arrests in any of the vandalism at the synagog. the fbi's investigating this most recent case. >> philadelphia district attorney seth williams is facing mounting calls to step down. >> members of the group black lives matter philly blocked traffic outside the d.a.'s office this morning. they are demanding woimds resign now. >> this is a guy who thought he was above the law, plain and simple. i've said it before. he has never believed himself to be a public servant.

he's always believed himself to be a celebrity and personality. >> there's been no comment today from seth williams office but he has said in the past that he will not resign despite his federal indictment however he is not running for reelection. williams pleaded not guilty last week to bribery and extortion charges. charles ramsey spoke today about the impact on the district attorney's office. >> i'm sure that it's cast the shadow on the entire office and it's a great office with a lot of fine lawyers and i hope they can work through this. >> philadelphia mayor gym kenny is among those who have called on seth williams to resign. >> for the second time since friday an amtrak passenger train has derailed. this was the scene near chicago union station this morning. three cars jumped the tracks. it was headed to boston. it was moving slowly at the time so no one was hurt. on friday an amtrak train

derailed at new york's penn station as it left for philadelphia. the train scraped a new jersey transit train after leaving the tracks. only minor injuries there. you might recall nearly two years ago an amtrak northeast regional train derailed, eight people were killed and more than 200 whurt. >> if you're riding the subway in the afternoons or evenings expect to see more officers. between three and seven officers are going to be out in full force of the trains and those platforms. this fight right here nearly two weeks ago is just one incident that led to that decision to increase officers on trains. 10 ben franklin high school students were arrested last week. >> this is what firefighters in oakland had to deal with this morning. it is a raging warehouse fire. this afternoon we know at least one person is dead, crews rescued seven other people from the flames. 60 people lived there.

it's not clear yet how the fire started. new details tonight about the man behind the deadly attack in london last week. british counter terrorism officials say he is not associated with isis or al qaeda. officers say khalid masood had an interest in jihad but there's no evidence he talked about it with anyone else. police say he also looks like masood copied other attacks. also today the family of the american killed in the attacks spoke out for the first time. they say they're grieving the lost of 54-year-old kirk cochran. >> most difficult part of all of this is that kirk is no longer with us and we miss him terribly. >> cochran's wife melissa has a broken, rib, leg and a cut on her head. she's doing better. breaking news on wall street, the dow jones is now in its longest losing streak in six

years. the market closed in just the past few minutes and the dow jones is down. it is the eighth straight losing session. the defeat of the republican health care bill on friday raised concerns that business friendly policies like tax cuts and looser regulations may have a tougher time getting passed. a live look at the big board here. the dow finished down a little over 45 points. >> no surprise in washington when president trump supreme court nominee experienced a setback today. >> as expected democrats delayed a committee vote on judge neil gorsuch by one week. some democrats have threatened to filibuster. the republicans could use the so-called nuclear option to end the filibuster. and in the past half hour senate majority leader chuck schumer called on congressman devon nunes. this comes hours after he admitted he had a secret meeting at the white house on the day before president trump may have been monitored by intelligence

top of the stadium, they're supposed to be turning but there's hardly any wind to do that today, only 3 miles per hour wind. 58 degrees in philadelphia. now we're in the 50s across a good bit of the area but as we just showed you it was in the 70s into the mid 70s in southern delaware. it's not even 50 degrees in fleetwood, 49 degrees, reading at 54, kutztown 55, allentown 54, bethlehem only 52, easton and nazareth barely 50 degrees. been in the 40s practically all day. so we've had a huge contrast from north to south across the area and we're going to have a pretty big contrast tomorrow too. the fog, it's light fog now, but it's likely to be dense in parts of the area for the morning rush, causing some delays

including airport delays and thunderstorms scattered around on tuesday, mainly in southern portions of the area like delaware and extreme south jersey. got a lot of clouds now but not a whole lot of rain. you can see we had some showers move offshore, couple of very light showers in the area. now more significant activity back across the ohio valley. you got thunderstorms there that as it all moves into the more stable air with the clouds in northeast winds we're getting tomorrow that might limit the threat of anything really strong. here we are tomorrow morning. we've got areas of fog and then as you can see some showers and maybe thunderstorms from time to time moving across the area. so it's not a steady rain, not a total washout but a lot of clouds and a lot warmer down here than it is up there. we go through 8:00 and the computer model showing the actual biggest threat of

didn't get out of the 40s. we may have thunderstorms for the afternoon rush tomorrow but another issue for the morning rush and that would be the fog. one of the place effected philly international where we don't have delays due to fog now but we may very well have that issue tomorrow morning so check with the airlines. temperatures in the 50s from philadelphia northward, but not so in delaware and south jersey. 71 in dover, 70 in millville, atlantic city, wildwood, we showed you early, parts of southern delaware in the mid-70s. there we were on saturday, 77, a high of only 45 on sunday. we're telling you, a week ago, that there was going to be this tremendous difference. near 70 saturday and in the 40s sunday so we hope you were able to plan around that forecast. sometimes we can get that specific that far ahead of time.

turns out if you're allergic to one type of nut, you might still be able to eat other kinds of nuts. researchers followed 109 people allergic to a specific nut like walnuts, almonds or cashews. some of them people did have a sensitivity to other nuts, but half of those patients had no reaction when they ate them. for instance, very few people allergic to peanuts ended up being allergic to tree nuts. >> more good news about breast-feeding. it could make kids calmer. a study shows babies who are breast fed for the first six months are left hyperactivity

day and that helped push the temperature up. 59 in philly airport, but it's 50s in manayunk, 56 in summerton. the lowest temperature in the city of philadelphia itself right now. we've had some showers earlier today. they've moved off shore, couple of very light showers in the area now. we have more in west virginia that could potentially reach us before daybreak. the heavier stuff would not be reaching us till tomorrow. the fog that we're getting now already is creating some delays at the airport and we may have a lot more as we go into tomorrow. it's going to be coming in from the ocean, so cape may, atlantic city you're going to get the low advise abilities first and as we head toward the morning rush, this computer tends to exaggerate the fog, it's still going to be an issue in the

morning across a good bit of the area and those clouds are going to be hanging around during much of the day. so showers coming through during the night. by tomorrow morning it's mostly fog issue. there's noontime, some showers, maybe even thunderstorms. then another round coming through, so this is not an all day thing. it's not a total washout. not everybody's going to get showers and thunderstorms but the threat is certainly there for just about any part of the area, the best chance for any of that is farther to the south. so, yes, there's a chance in the philadelphia area but you notice, i don't have thunderstorms in for the lehigh valley or berks county. there's still a possibility of west chester, newton square, but farther to the south the chance gets better. mount airy slight chance, better chance as we go toward glassboro with high of 72 degrees and the
