now to scary moments today in washington. a a traffic stop ended in it gunfire steps from the u.s. capital around 9:30 this morning. a woman hit a police cruiser while trying to flee a traffic stop. she nearly hit an officer in the process. a a brief pursuit followed and the officers fired shots while attempting to arrest the suspect. no one was hurt. the case against a suspected killer accused of murdering a grandmother on christmas eve will go to trial. it was december 24th when someone gunned down the 81-year-old in the south philadelphia corner store she and her husband owned for more than 40 years. during today's hearing the victim's grandson. testified that last may he and his ex-girlfriend stole a gold chain from a known drug dealer and pawned it for drug money. the defense claims if they wanted revenge, they could have done it in the months right after the theft. >> it's ab emotional case. we have nothing but respect for the victim's family.
