water woes, we have seen a wet start to the weekend but it is not a total washout. fire fallout tonight. three people are facing charges for this inferno on the interstate. the new way terrorists are trying to get explosives on to airplanes. rainy roadblocks. the wet water made it very difficult for drivers today. area streets were flooded. the creeks in your neighborhood could be filling up. a viewer sent us this video of a creek in bucks county.

tonight, that heavy rain is over. students at st. joseph's university were walk without umbrellas. but we still have a few lingering showers out there. let get an update from tammy souza. >> it looks like we are in the clear as far as the heavy rain. scattered showers continue throughout the evening but a lot has moved off the coastline and at this point i think we are going to start to see things receding. how much did you get in your neighborhood? that's the big question. let's look at the rain totals across philadelphia. some isolated areas got more than that. let take a look at what went on and to the north up in lehigh valley, walnut port, 1.9 inches. allentown, 2.29 inches. so a large amount of rain falling outside of the metro area.

now we go to the pennsylvania suburbs, 2.2 inches in westchester. gilbertsville, 2.27. let's go ahead and look at what went on in new jersey. that's where i thought we picked up the heaviest amount of rain because they got that dense downpour this afternoon. 1.85 in pennsville, chats worth, 1.93. along the jersey shore we did get some isolated amounts up around an inch and a half. atlantic city, 1.46. and delaware, our last little trip, in wilmington, 2.47 and louis, 1.11. now you're probably wondering what is going to go on for tomorrow. you know what? let's take a look at the weekend.

saturday will have cloud cover but not expecting rain. we'll be in the 50s. sunday, gorgeous with the 60s and sunshine. however we'll get a soaker early next week. a son makes a gruesome discovery it at his parent's home. one of them is dead. family, police, and neighbors now search for answers. >> reporter: a word to describe the reaction around here is stunned. people came out to see for themselves if what they heard was true. philadelphia police look for clues in this house on south 19th street. when they arrive just before 4:00 this afternoon officers found a 63-year-old woman dead. her 67-year-old husband, clinging to life. >> it's very shock. i don't know what could have happened. >> reporter: husband and wife were stabbed multiple times.

they were found by their son who katrina bennett ran into earlier. >> i said how was his family and that was it. >> what did he say? >> everybody good. >> reporter: katrina said his son was on his way to visit his parents. not long after he made the gruesome discovery. the couple had been together for a while and were described as good people. >> when you seen them you seen her, they always together and always happy. and that's all the time. >> reporter: police say no one broke into the home. nearly six hours after first arriving, they continued to collect evidence. but at this hour, there's still no answers. >> it's heart breaking. it's heart breaking. i'm in shock. >> the husband was found stabbed in his chest and neck and was in critical condition at penn presbyterian hospital.

three people are under arrest in connection with this fire that caused part of an atlanta interstate to collapse. all three are believed to be homeless. the insurance commissioner says that all three were together when the fire started and one of the men set the fire. the fire destroyed a portion of interstate 85 in the heart of atlanta. the gunman wanted for shooting into the parking lot of delilah's gentleman's club is in custody. lawrence mitchell was facing weapons and fugitive charges in west jersey. he is accused of opening fire from the fifth floor window of a building under construction monday night. the bullets hit a pickup truck in the delilah's parking lot. no one was injured. investigators call the shooting random. prosecutors want the depth for the couple accused of

killing 14-year-old grace packer. lawyers made the announcement when jacob sul vann waived his arraignment today. her body was found in a wooded area last october. grace's adoptive mother sarah watched sullivan act out a rape/murder fantasy they shared. she has pleaded not guilty. details about the shooting of a state trooper at a restop. witnesses saw someone shooting up in his truck while investigating drug activity. when troopers moved in, he hit one of the cars with his truck and sped directly towards another officer. that officer shot the man who shot and died. septa is trying to figure out what caused this train to fill up with smoke on the

commute. the train made an emergency stop and everyone made it out safely before being transferred to another train. seth williams is accepting a temporary suspension of his law license while he fights corruption charges in federal court. he was in court to get permission to switch attorneys. there is concern that williams would not be able to pay for his own attorney. he will remain in an administrative capacity as he fights the charges. a judge approved an agreement for president donald trump to pay $25 million to settle lawsuits over trump university. the decision ends seven years of legal battles. kuchlss claim they were misled by promises to have success in real estate. lawyers say the students should get at least 90% of their money

back. white house press secretary sean spicer says that president trump finds it unacceptable that cities across the u.s. are becoming sanctuaries for undocumented immigrants. during the press briefing, spicer referenced philadelphia while making the argument that they put lives at risk. >> it can have tragic consequences for all of our citizens and our country. it's concerning for chicago and philadelphia where there has been increased violence. >> the city of philadelphia did not have a direct response to the comments but they issued a release saying that sanctuary cities do comply with federal authorities, are safer than nonsanctuary cities and don't have dangerous criminals. more than 20 community groups are coming together the focus on child abuse and how to stop it. dr. jill biden delivered the opening remarks.

former vice president joe biden was also in attendance. they showed delaware's efforts in fighting child abuse with a panel discussion. civil rights lawyer william coleman jr. is dead. he was the second african-american to be a white house cabinet member. he granted from the university of pennsylvania and graduated first in his class from harvard law. williams coleman jr. was 96 years old. also tonight, explosives intelligence. experts think terrorists have found a new way to sneak bombs on to airplanes. plus, epipen problems. why the drug is under recall. and running out of room. why so many stranded seals are showing up at this jersey shore facility. and we're starting to dry

>> reporter: a week later we now have an explanation for the carry on ban for electronics. >> we have to take all our electronics out so it's not a shock this something they're looking at. >> reporter: passengers at baggage claim responded to the new report that terrorists now know how to conceal explosives in laptops to get them through security check points. >> they are finding different ways to put explosives in everything. >> reporter: experts looked at recent airline attacks, reconstructing the bombing devices. they are worried that laptops could power up and fool screeners. and terror groups may be in possession of and using airport screening machines to test their design. >> they are look for pointy objects, nothing else. >> reporter: despite the rules there is a reason why people

departing the u.s. are able to put them in checked baggage. >> they are better able to detect explosives. >> these reports suggest there won't be changes to those mideast travel rules but if you are flying in philly there are no planned changes to screening on domestic flights. the site at the center of one of philadelphia's darkest days will be recognized with a historical marker. they approved a request for a marker near the move house in philadelphia. in an effort to end a standoff, police dropped a bomb on a house occupied by members of a group called move. 61 homes were destroyed. students nominated the site

after studying the incident for two years. new at 11:00, new jersey lawmakers are pushing to have a convicted cop killer returned to the u.s. from cuba. she murdered a new jersey state trooper during a traffic stop. she was granted asylum by fidel castro. tonight an issue along the east coast is impacting new jersey's only facility dedicated to rescuing sick and injured marine mammals. the center is running out of room after taking in those seals. officials say they are showing up earlier than expected and they cannot take any more from out of state.

student ps in delaware county have been dancing for more than five hours now. they're not done yet. they kicked off their steve stefani dance marathon tonight. they will dance for 15 hours. the event is named for a former teach whoever died of cancer. now to a marathon of a different kind. registration opens at midnight for the philadelphia marathon on sunday november 19th. before the marathon comes the blue cross broad street run. the ten-mile race is sunday, may 7th. and the only place to see it is right here on nbc 10. it was a rainy day for that run last year but nothing like the soaker today. tammy souza now with a look ahead to hopefully a better weekend. >> we will be improving tonight

and tomorrow and sunday. we do have cloud cover out there. this is where we're going to be going. dropping into the low 40s across the area. but we're not going to bottom out in the 30s. you notice the winds will be coming out of the north. brisk winds. we're not expecting much in the way of rain. maybe just a sprinkle tonight. the beam is sweeping the sky and the area is clear. there are a few showers down by dover. but other than that we are expecting a brief passing shower. the heavy rain is out of the area. here's a look at the storm system. you see it is winding up but lifting off to the north and east. a lot of the rain you see on the backside is going to skirt past us. that's why just widely scattered showers is what we're going to be expecting overnight. now the track of the low, it is going to move right across

philadelphia and as it does so, it's going to turn the winds out of the north and we're going to see the cooler and dryer air mass. hour by hour into saturday morning we're going to have clouds out there but we're going to see a little bit of clearing as the day wears on. i'm hopeful for a peek or two of sunshine. overnight on saturday and the winds turn northwest and we dry out, we clear out and we're going the see plenty of sunshine on our sunday. it should be a pretty day. temperatures across much of the area should make it into the low 60s which will be delightful for many people. so tonight right now looking at 44 in philadelphia. 32 in mt. pocono. wilmington at 46 and 53 in atlantic city. your neighborhood forecast for tonight this is our real-time sky forecast model. it shows scattered showers around the area and it shows for the most part everybody dropping

into the 40s overnight with clouds and then it looks like as we wake up tomorrow morning we'll see peeks of sunshine popping out at us and for the most part we'll make into the low 50s for tomorrow and a few peeks of sunshine coming through late in the afternoon. that's the good news, we start to dry out. no more heavy rain for tomorrow if you have activities outside. 53 tomorrow, 61 with sunshine. monday we cloud up again with rain moving in at night with a soaker on tuesday. 61 there. wednesday, a mix of sun and clouds, 65. could be one of the warmer days this week. thursday, some rain moving in heavy at times, clearing out early on friday. that of course is the phillies home opener. back to you. mystery solved. this norman rockwell painting disappeared from a home more than 40 years ago.

tonight a norman rockwell painting is back where it belongs more than 40 years after it was stolen from a south jersey home. the grant family lost it. an art dealer had it in his kitchen thinking it was a copy. it was stolen during a break in in 1976, robert grant paid $100 for the art work. now it could be worth $1 million or more. crayola is about to add a new color to its crayon collection. and you could help name it. the shade will be in the blue family and replace the color

sixers lose 122-105. jimmy rollins was released by the giants tonight. phillies back home tonight. the boys are back in town. season opener is monday in cincinnati. how about the story of brock, making the majors for the first time at 27 and was in tears when he found out and that video went viral. >> wasn't really able to hold it together that is because both my parents didn't answer the phone when i called. the reporters were the first people i talked to. once they got in front of me it hit me all at once. i lost it. >> the phillies hosted the rays before leaving florida. clay buchholz, gives up this two-run shot right here. he gives up five runs. phillies down by two, rupp ties it up. they left florida with a 7-7 tie. the flyers will not have
