good evening, i'm jacqueline london. >> and i'm jim rosenfield. this storm system is just hours away from our area as you see right there on radar. we have issued a first alert for tomorrow for the severe storm threat. up to 3 inches of rain could fall in some areas and that could trigger flooding. plus gusting winds up to 60 miles per hour. tammie souza is tracking what that means for you in her most accurate forecast. going to be a messy day tomorrow. >> it is. severe weather is possible for tomorrow. we're going to hop right into it. we're looking at the biggest threat being flooding. flooding rains perhaps we could see anywhere between 2 to 3 inches of rain there on top of the already saturated grounds. the i-95 corridor, damaging winds and flooding. so heavy rain along with maybe some microbursts from the severe storms. south jersey, strong to severe storms are possible including heavy rain. and then southern delaware, you potentially could be facing the biggest threat for severe thunderstorms. microbursts are possible, but just to the south of delaware is

>> a live look at the ben franklin parkway where new rules are in place for where you can park and this is one phase of the traffic impact as the nfl builds a theater right on the art museum steps. the draft is expected to bring 200,000 people, but not until the end of the month. >> why the cloes now? we sent nbc 10 to find out. >> i just got new information about this. i asked the city why this long lead time. they tell me that this build out is more extensive than e we saw with the pope's visit. and in areas like this here on pennsylvania avenue, they also need rom for their crews. this is a a place they have already put up signs telling people no parking. they are going to be putting production trailers in this area like that one you already see here. just one of the changes that you'll be seeing before the draft arrives.

priests. federal prosecutors say the monosenior was the rector and had sole access to the bank account. he's accused of siphoning more than $530,000 since 2007. much of the money was gifted to the arch diocese of philadelphia froms will and life insurance proceeds. right now at 6:00, police say middle schoolers wanted revenge when they started this fight here inside the mall. nbc 10 was first to bring you the story monday night. police now say a group of students attacked the victim who was from norristown. the attackers were angry because the victim broke up another fight they started. police know who all the suspects are and they are still deciding whether to charge them. in the past hour, nbc 10 obtained a a letter to its parents that says even though the fight happened outside the school day, the school would be remissed in not expressing our may. the litter goes on to say we do

off, the union told me they are from n preliminary conversations for the laid off workers to have the first dibs here at the hard rock jobs. they have no promises or nothing in writing just yet, but those interviews could begin by the end of this year. i'm cydney long, nbc 10 news. today both sides of a soda tax lawsuit argued their cases in front of an appeals court. the attorneys appeared in front of the judges in pittsburgh today. the coalition argues the tax is illegal because they say it duplica duplicates the state sales tax. the tax is 1.5 cents per ounce and meant to fund the pre-k program among other things. new at 6:00 from the lehigh valley, the man is charged with his ex-girlfriend's murder. he killed her with a home made air gun. township back in september,

state police say the 35-year-old killed her. he livid across the street. but roof ended the relationship in 2015. police say he was angry about that breakup. he's now being held without bond. today president trump said a chemical gas attack possibly linked to the syrian government crossed a a lot of lines. >> it's very, very possible, and i will tell you it's already happened, that my attitude toward syria and bashar al assad has changed very much. >> the president offered no details about how the u.s. will respond for the deadly gas attack. nearly 100 people died including dozens new at 6:00, camden county is at odds with federal immigration officials tonight. i.c.e. says the county released a citizen from prison this week after the fed's requested he be

schools their children attend receive grants to pay for their tuition. the money came from the fallen heroes scholarship fund. where is woman's place in the world? philadelphia councilwoman brown hosted a discussion today about nontraditional roles and career paths for women. local leaders strategized about how to break gender stereotypes to help women succeed in any industry they choose. philadelphia's new revolution museum just passed its fundraising goal weeks before it opened. the museum announced today it reached the $150 million goal. that's thanks to a $2.5 million gift from comcast universal and the roberts foundation. the museum opens on april 19th at the anniversary of the first battles in the revolutionary war. next all new at 6:00, going hungry on campus. they are making a new move to help hundreds of students who

new at 6:00, hidden hunger on college campus. >> we hear about dorm food, bru that's hardly the case for everyone. today they opened a food pantry for students who could struggle to eat otherwise. >> erin coleman found out how hundreds of students say they don't always have enoughed to. >> living on a college budget is really difficult. >> it's always a challenge. with not being able to work full-time. >> don't really talk about it. >> reporter: but they are doing something about it. the first food pantry opened on campus today. stocked with canned gods, serial, soups and grab and go bags. last year the school surveyed 4,000 students that go to the school and found between 11 and 17% of them don't always get

enough to do. that's hundreds of students. >> i couldn't survive off my college loans and towards the end of the semester funds are definitely depleting. so i can definitely relate. >> that's one of the reasons that we try to do our best to open the food pantry before the end of semester. >> dr. fran, a math professor, spear headed the effort. with half of students here being the first in their families to go to college and the third of them considered low income she says she wasn't surprised that hunger is here too. >> we knew that this was a nationwide issue and a lot of colleges are experience iing it. >> reporter: they join a growing list of local schools like temple, westchester and rutgers adding food pantries putting the spotlight on trying to. stop student hunger in its tracks. erin coleman, nbc 10 news.

turning to our first alert weather. a beautiful beach day. nbc 10 in relaxing on the sand. they are clear in center city. as we look live from our campus camera, things are going to go downhill fast. we have issued a a first alert for tomorrow as we track the threat of storms. you can see that live on the first alert radar. let's go to tammie souza and the first alert neighborhood forecast. >> we're going to be look iing strong storms tomorrow. possibly severe storms. ask potentially some flooding across the area. for tonight this is what we're going to do. the clouds are in place already. we have already seen the sunshine and a high of 69. 6 in philly with winds out of the southeast. winds the severity with the storms, but we're still going to be looking at strong storms. the clouds thicken. we're not looking at any rain yet.

a good part of the night. nothing going on across the area. the main body of the storm is way back here. it's coming out of the midwest and ahead of it is kicking off the lines of strong storms. a lot of these are possibly tornadic. they have watches across the entire area. the batch of storms up from the southeast will fizzle ask then we're going to see some of the storms coming in from the west that will make it into our area tonight. red indicates the tornado watch boxes. yellow the severe thunderstorm watch boxes we have neither here. but tomorrow we are under the risk of severe weather. best chance is here in this area. parking l parts of maryland and delaware could be looking at that potential. what does that mean? the yellow is a slight risk. we could see damaging winds. i'm not to say an isolated tornado can be ruled out, but because of the winds off the

atlantic, it's rather unlikely. the marginal up here means we could get some hail and microbursts and further up here into the lehigh valley and burkes county, we're going to be looking a at the flooding threat. let's take a look at what is going on with slight risk. what does this mean for you. when we talk about a slight risk, we basically are talking about severe storms with short lived, not widespread intensities. that's south of the area. but scattered wind damage and also 1 to 2-inch hail. south of the metro into delaware and over into south jersey is where we're watch iing for this tomorrow. hour by hour a at 2:00 in the morning, already some of these storms are coming through. look at cape may. look attington at 3:30 in the morning. right across the philadelphia area, 5:00 in the morning this continues off to the east. then by the time we get into the noon hour, we start to e regenerate.

the winds shift off to the south and the west. and look at this. we could see a little bit of snow in places like harrisburg. maybe a sprinkle for the phillies home opener. certainly no snow. much cooler as well. we'll have that ten-day forecast at the end of the show. >> i'm john clark. a homecoming for a pitcher in cincinnati. it's also raining there. dale earnhardt will be driving an eagles car. why he's not happy about it. that's coming up.
