also the philadelphia fire department and we've been told that the fire marshal has also been called in. i mentioned that this restaurant has actually been vacant for quite a while. it does have some broken windows on it that we've noticed and we're told that it was contractors who came here to work on those windows that actually made this discovery. here's what the detective had to tell us. >> when they went in to see what kind of tools they were going to need for the job, they discovered a body in a room that was charred. this time it appears to be a male, that's all we know and that's where we stand at now. >> reporter: so they have not ruled homicide in or out at this point but they're treating it like a homicide so that they can protect the scene here with all these investigators working on this. now i asked whether this body could have been burned some where else and brought in to this scene, they told me that they don't believe that that is what happened. they believe that this somehow

happened here. they just don't know how or to who. live at franklin mills, i'm lauren mayk, nbc10 news. >> the hunt for a killer accused of filming a murder and then posting the video on facebook. tonight that search has stretched to our area. more than 30 schools in west philadelphia went on lockdown this afternoon as police investigated unfounded tips about this case. this murder happened in cleveland, ohio. >> police are now looking for the suspect in several states including pennsylvania. here in philadelphia, there have been no confirmed sightings of this suspect but police did respond to fairmount park this afternoon after they got some 9/11 calls from people thinking they had seen the suspect. police tell us the suspect was not seen anywhere in philadelphia. cydney long is getting reaction, let's go to jacqueline london live in our breaking news center on the latest for this search. >> police in cleveland say it is now a national hunt.

they gave an update about an hour ago. they are asking stephens to surrender. take a look here at this map. the search started in cleveland yesterday. it has expanded to michigan, indiana, new york and pennsylvania. investigators in cleveland say at point-blank range stephens shot and killed an elderly man walking by and that video was then uploaded on facebook. during the police news conference, they announce aid reward of up to $50,000 for any information that would lead to stephens, but they say they don't know where he is. now the victim has been identified as 74-year-old robert godwin senior. his killing appears to be random. we're hearing from that victim's son and from stephens fraternity brothers telling him to turn himself in. >> this man right here was a good man. >> please, seek help and surrender because the situation may not end in any other way.

>> reporter: stephens also made the claim that he has killed at least a dozen other people but so far that has not been confirmed by police. live in the breaking news center, jacqueline london, nbc10 news. >> some tips about this facebook murder suspect prompted dozens of philadelphia schools to go on lockdown today. cydney long is joining us live from fairmount park and police responded to some unfounded tips but i just can't imagine how worried parents were. >> reporter: indeed they were. it scared several parents and people in the park because they witnessed a quick and coordinated response by police to this area but that panic i can tell you quickly turned to relief. >> very reassuring. >> reporter: have a necessaria took her stroll in fairmount park today moments after five police districts got a series of 911 calls that someone matching the facebook description might be in the area. >> it's great to know that they responded immediately and showed

direct response to this because what could happen if he was here, that's horrible. >> reporter: philly schools put 30 schools on lockdown as a precaution. those lockdowns lifted within an hour. police canvassed area there is no indication or evidence that the suspect sg or was ever in philadelphia. it had others a bit on edge. >> i only saw the helicopters come by. i saw a few cars come by with flashers on, like in a row. >> reporter: they weren't sure what was unfolding but took time to hit the internet to study the cleveland killer's face. >> looking at his, he looks like a number of any guys walking around philadelphia. it's unsettling. >> reporter: hunter is praying that he's caught soon without incident. she reached out to a close friend this morning. >> i told her that it was so frightful that someone did such a horrific thing and she told me how cleveland is in pandemonium

and everyone's fearful. >> reporter: the 30 sum schools in philadelphia that were placed on lockdown. it was only about an hour or so-so all of those students were dismissed at their normal times, life in fairmount tonight, i'm cydney long, nbc10 news. >> tonight a day of celebration but also a day with heightened security in boston for the 121st boston marathon. more than 25,000 runners hit the pavement with thousands of police officers standing by. today's race was the fourth since a deadly bombing at the finish line back in 2013. a live look now at the ben franklin parkway where philadelphia will host the nfl draft in less than two weeks. security preparations have been happening for months and they are intensifying today. mitch blacher covered the security at the democratic national convention last summer and the pope's visit. he is now tracking security preparation live along the parkway, mitch. >> reporter: the transformation

closures around the art museum but nothing like the traffic box restrictions we saw during the pope's visit. tourists told us the construction and security were not a problem for them. >> they made sure we got around and made sure it was safe for us to get over here. >> reporter: for philly hosting the draft isn't cheap. the nfl is contributing $25 million and the city will contribute another $500,000 most of the parkway will be open to the public. this area called the draft experience will still have to deal with stadium style security, no weapons, no smoking and bags and purses will be searched. the city expects as many as 200,000 people at the draft and predicts it will bring in over $85 million over the draft weekend. whoever the eagles pick, they'll know where to get their next suit. >> we got the best team. >> reporter: now unlike the pope's visit, the secret service will not have anything to do with security for the nfl draft.

we should be this time of year. here's the trend for tomorrow. not quite as warm as today. we'll be spot on with the exception of the jersey shore where you're going to be left in the 50s because of an on shore breeze. the rest of us make it well into the 60s. i do have some mid-and upper 70s in my forecast. i have to explain all that rain, right? i'll do that when i come back. >> case closed. police in newton township say they've identified all of the people seen in this video including this guy who picks up the bench right there only to have it bounce back and hit him in the face on friday. police put this video out after several businesses on sick amore street were vandalized. we have a call into police to see if anyone will be charged now. >> the officer who survived the ambush is telling the jury about what happened when he was shot. this is video of trooper alex douglas walking into court this morning. he told the jury he heard loud bangs and heard someone

screaming. he saw trooper brian dixon lying on the ground. douglas says he banged on a window and yelled for help then he felt a pain like getting hit with a baseball bat in the back. douglas also testified about the rehab he's gone through and he was emotional when he spoke about how much pain he is still in. frein had no reaction inside the courtroom. >> erik frein is accused of killing dixon. frein could face the death penalty. >> a memorial to a 3-year-old found dead in a south jersey park was removed over the weekend and it all has to do with his father's murder trial that starts tomorrow. a shrine was made where brandon's body was found in an had be township park back in 2015. the jury is expected to visit the park. david creato the boy's father was accused of murdering his son and leaving him in the park. his attorney expressed concern

let's bring many meteorologist tammie souzza with your first alert neighborhood forecast. >> you know what? if you don't like the weather, juster just hang on it's totally different 36 hours later. this is the afternoon highs we've been dealing with. we should be at 64 this time of year 87 yesterday. 71 so far today. i don't know that we'll go above that but there may have been a 72 that snuck in there for a couple of minutes. we'll check that out for the next few minutes. 67 is what we're forecasting for tomorrow. 65 on wednesday and back up to 75 on thursday. so we're not done with the nice mild weather, at least not yet. we do have some gray skies still hanging out across philly. we have a few peaks of sunshine. 70 right now with winds out of the northwest to 14 miles an hour. temperatures elsewhere generally in the upper 60s and low 70s. allentown at 72, wilmington 69.

>> announcer: this is nbc10 news. in philadelphia two guys on the run after robbing a popeye's in seeder brook. they casually walk past people waiting in line and then he hit the registers. shoving handfuls of cash into their pockets before climbing back over the counter. >> more problems for united airlines. >> a people say they were kicked off for a flight. the situation is different than the one that went viral last week. when they boarded someone was laying across their seats taking a nap, so they simply got up and moved to other seats. the plane wasn't full. without them knowing they tried sitting in economy plus seats an attendant asked them to move so they did but that's when the couple said an air marshal came on and told them to get off. united said, these passengers repeatedly attempted to sit in

>> the manhunt for suspected facebook murderer makes its way into philadelphia. to be clear, police say there was no indication the facebook killer was in philadelphia today. >> but police put more than 30 schools on lockdown as they investigated a tip that he was spotted in fairmount park. cleveland police held a news conference for their search for stephens. there's a $50,000 reward leading to his arrest. they have no idea where he is right now. police say on sunday, stephens shot a man to death apparently at random and posted a video of it on facebook. for the first time we're hearing from the victim's former girlfriend who saw him moments before the shooting. >> i see you when i get back. he didn't come back.

>> in the video stephens mentions a woman telling his victim he's the reason this is about to happen to you. >> cleveland police say this is a nationwide search that is come to pennsylvania and more specifically, fairmount park. let's take a look at how this search has progressed over the past 24 hours. police say stephens killed a man in cleveland as well as michigan are being on alert. several 911 calls came in around 12:30 this afternoon saying stephens could be in or near fairmount park. so the philadelphia police went to fairmount park. they didn't find anything. this is video of the police activity there and out of precautions 30 schools went into lockdown for about an hour. they did not find anything and there's no indication the killer was ever here. the police spoke to say the glad the police are keeping them safe. >> it's great to know that they responded immediately and showed
