opening day is finally here in philadelphia. form aaron hernandez found dead in his cell days after he was acquitted in another murder case. and pain relief is coming. local doctors find a way to treat patients who suffer from one of the most debilitating types of headaches. ♪ the sights and sounds of the colonial era are alive and well. it is marking the opening of the museum of american revolution.

opening ceremonies are underway. there have been events underway this morning. part involved a march from washington square march to independence mall. procession there. color kba color guards representing the original colony. vai sikahema was part of that ceremony. he mc'sed the event. nbc 10's pamela osborne is right in the middle of all of the action. this is a big day for the city, pam. >> reporter: absolutely, and for native americans as well. we are hearing about a speech about the contributions native americans made during the revolutionary war. things got underway early this morning at washington square

park. ♪ >> reporter: this is a reflective tribute, a wreath was laid to rest. we saw more events kick off the grand opening of the museum. there was a march from independence mall. it has been a project 16 years in the making. it's no coincidence that doors open up today. today is the 242 anniversary. it ignited the revolutionary war. we all have the chance to see and relive and experience that time through some of the many interactive displays throughout the museum. >> we realize the adversities we have to contend with. it's a reminder of what courage our pred sepredecessors have.

our area. winds are cooler across the region. let's find out what's to come today with krystal klei. she is here with the most accurate forecast in your neighborhood. >> yeah. a forecast for today but definitely different than yesterday. it is cooler and grayer as well. take a look. most of them showing the cloudiness. 57 right now in philadelphia. look where these winds are coming in from, the south, the southeast. when you an east or south flow you're pulling in the numbers. 55 is where we are right now in new jersey. in delaware 57 degrees with peeks of sun as well. the winds about 12 miles per hour. so just a little breezy out there. it will be continuing through the rest of today. but for the most part we do stay dry. we are not expecting much in terms of rain moving through at least not for today. take a look at your radar and

satellite view. there are clouds. there is spotty rain. we pull this out a little more. we'll have more where that comes from. we'll track out the chances of rain for you. they start tonight and last for quite a few days. we'll talk more about it coming up in a few minutes. >> all right. thanks for that. families in this apartment building if will have a find a new place to live. fire destroyed the four apartments. it happened on zimmerman avenue. a couple of firefighters had to jump to safety from a window. one was taken to the hospital with an injured ankle. they tweeted this picture of what the building looked like and their efforts were complicated by trouble with a fire hydrant. >> me, my brother and my mom. >> how are they doing if. >> i don't know where they are. i'm looking for them. >> think didn't start putting

the fire out. so it's pretty much there on the top floor. everything they had was gone. >> take a look at viewer video. this is from i-95. you can see the flames shooting into the air. a home next door was also damaged. cell phone video captured a powerful fire that burned through a building in chester. look at this. burning debris fell ton firefighter. we are told he is okay. sky force 10 shows the fire that burned along west 3rd street in chester. it was filled with mattresses we are told. investigators are working to determine a cause. a philadelphia fire truck collided around midnight at 22nd and york. a person in the suv was treated for minor injuries. investigating the suicide of

aaron hernandez. he was found hanging in his cell in his massachusetts prison this morning. he used a bed sheet to kill himself. they say there was no indication he was a suicide risk. hernandez was serving a life sentence for a murder conviction. days ago he was acquitted in another killing. the murder trial of eri ericerick ericerick erick frein. he is accused of killing a trooper and injuring another in 2014. if convicted he could face the death penalty. jury selection continues today in the murder trial. she a father charged with murdering his son in 2015 alleged by because the child got in the way of his relationship with a teenaged girlfriend. opening statements could start tomorrow. a south jersey man charged

with murdering pates in 1979 will spend the next 29 years behind bars. a jury convicted him of kidnapping and murdering the six-year-old who vanished during a walk. his body was never found. his father talked abclosurout c. >> i don't think we ever believe wed could come to this point, that we would ever actually find out what happened to our child. >> he also said neither he for god will ever forgive hernandez. we are seeing phase two of road closures. police are closing the inner lain lan lanes. the draft event begins next thursday and rains for three

a live look now at the opening ceremonies going on right now in old city for the museum of revolution. former vice president joe biden is there. right now students from the high school for performing arts are on stage. really bringing history to life. we'll have a live report in our next half hour. now to new details about the man who police say shot and killed three people in less than a minute in fresno, california. he want today kill as many people as he could after he found out he was wanted in the killing of a motel security guard last week. they say he told them he was singling out white people. now he is charged with four counts of murder. a stop for fast food turned

into the end of the manhunt for the so called facebook killer. workers at a mcdonald's recognized him. they stalled him saying it would be a few minutes for his frees. stephens sped off. authorities say he took his own life after he was cornered. >> i wanted to see him go to trial. it's god awful what he did to my brother. >> the police department is offering its own tribute, created this portrait. it was posted on facebook last night along with the message about how important it is to report information about crimes. go to nbc10.com and you can read that full message. former president george h. wnchts bush is back in the hospital. he had a recuring case of pneumonia he had earlier this

year. they also said the 92-year-old former president is okay. his family by his side. he was hospitalized for 16 days in january for pneumonia. votes are being counted into well into the morning. you since neither got the required 50% vote john will go up against karen handle in a run off election scheduled for june. the district is dominated by republicans and this race is seen as an early referendum. both looking at the outcome as a sign of what's to come. the winner will succeed tom price who resigned trump's administration. the president is looking at the runoff as a win.

he tweeted last night. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> we begin with a look outside our studios. a pretty nice view. a mix of sun and clouds breaking through. you can see the blue breaking through here. we'll have more and more clouds as the day progresses. it is not going to be the norm for the day. some rain may move through by tonight. some neighborhoods not reporting any right now. airport at 57. a lot of mid-50s right now. 55 parkwood. summerton up to 58 degrees. we should make it to the 60s by this afternoon. that's where we stop in the 60s. no 60s and no 80s in the forecast. we are looking at temperatures like walnut for 55.

allentown at 53 degrees. so we have got pretty con since te -- consistent temperatures. right now it's scattered cloud coverage. this is the deeper white gray color. it is heading our direction. we continue into the afternoon hours. pretty spotty, but if you like. everyone will have to wait until tonight to see light rain move by. here is a look at neighborhood forecast temperatures for today. 63 degrees in center city. so we are getting there. we are at 59 for the forecast high here. looking at temperatures through new jersey, delaware. about the same around 60 and 62

wilmington. smyrna a little lower. the lowest numbers, mid-50s for the jersey shore. we are talking that sea breeze. it means you get cool ocean air pushing inland and it is lower against the shore. here is your hour by hour forecast. we have been talking about this wet period of time. as we go through lunchtime to 3:30 there are light spotty showers i mentioned. then you see at 10:00 this line of little more steady rain. i think this line is going to make it through our region. this is 10:00 p.m. through midnight this continues to pass by. into 8:30 in the morning this is another spot. spotty showers may linger for your morning commute but otherwise thursday is great. it's not necessarily super rainy

time scholarship recipient. thank you for being here. >> thanks for having us. >> sure. tell us about the foundation. >> the foundation has been around since 1962. since 1962 it awarded over 37,000 scholarships for over $110 million. as i have seen over my career, and i have just come back to philadelphia last year, so 28 years in the marine corp., i have really got to seen the impact to offset the affordability of college. great organization that i knew a lot about, not as much as i could gu i got to look behind the curtain. i would call myself an honorary since i'm still on active duty. >> and really chaininging lives. it might be an opportunity for those who might not have an opportunity to go to college, right? >> absolutely.

you know, if it was not for scholarship foundation. >> right. tell me about your experience. >> right. so i was a recipient and i grew up outside of cleveland, ohio. villanova was my number one school. it is very far away. the scholarship really allowed me and my family to allow me to go to villanova and really stick around here. it has been a great community for the last 12 years. >> and we should mention you're the grand sson of a marine that served and receive add purple heart. >> yes. it allowed me to connect with him. a lot of that generation, they don't really -- they don't like to boast or talk about their experience but it allowed us to

picking up. here is a look at our current temperature maps. we are starting with the actual 24 hour change. meaning compared to yesterday we are 5 degrees cooler right now in philadelphia. we are 7 degrees cooler in trenton. allentown 4 degrees cooler. it is 7 degrees cooler for atlantic stich atlantic city. i grabbed a light jacket as i stepped out. this afternoon in the 60s. this morning you might notice it with 50s still on the map. philadelphia sitting at 57 degrees. we are at 55 mount holly. if you're right up against the shoreline the numbers are even lower because of the on shore breeze. here is our radar and satellite view. thicker clouds hanging to the west and to the west spotty light rain brewing to the west

picture. these are the areas, lehigh vall valley where we have light rain that could pass throw. we are gray over parts of delaware as well. temperatures are slowly rising but not going to be as warm as yesterday. we are at 62 in marshalton. when we drop farther south it's about 58 in lincoln. part of the reason why you see these lower temperatures along the delaware beaches, winds coming in from the southeast. you have the cooler temperatures as well. look at radar and satellite view. this is kind of scattered throughout the area. here is the rain passing to our west. we have got a little bit of

moisture trying to make it in. today cooler than yesterday. 63 degrees for the forecast high in philadelphia. tomorrow 76 degrees. by friday up to 80 degrees. i think we'll have a chance of isolated thunderstorms both thursday and friday. not wash out dies. we could see sun through the afternoon but spotty thunderstorms could pick up thursday or friday and thursday morning as well. in the suburbs 59 for today. look at that though. upper 70s by your friday. it is 60 for the high expected today. 62 in new jersey and 62 in delaware. tomorrow mid-70s for new jersey and delaware. a little cooler along the shore points but 70s along the shore. same deal, just isolated thunderstorms. this is not an all day event. there are the clouds we have

now. there is 4:00 p.m. spots of green passing the lehigh valley. overnight you see a line of rain build. i think it will extend through our viewing zone. it is not going to cause any flooding concerns but some rain overnight over our neighborhoods. then go into your morning thursday. i think the commute will be okay. sot lingering showers are possible. an isolated thunderstorms. breaks of sun. that's what i'm worried about, thunderstorm potential because we warm the air up. you can see the yellows and the reds. it will start to weaken and we'll clear out as we get later into the day on friday. let's talk weekend high temperatures. saturday and sunday big differences. saturday definitely the better day to be outside. upper 60s for philadelphia. mid-60s for new jersey.
