church you just saw on philadelphia pike. less than a mile away. drew smith was first on the scene today. >> what are you learning now? >> doctors are check out a couple officers at the hospital. they should be okay. meanwhile, the medical examiner is getting ready to move in here and retrieve a body of a man shot after a chase. >> it's a bloody scene just feet from the entrance to the church where new castle county lis shot ask killed a man during a confrontation. >> we heard a couple and that's why we just got startled and came out. >> neighbors came outside to see this green car after it crashed at the end of a mile-long chase. workers startled by the sudden violence. >> he heard the pop and looked over and saw the commotion. >> the man refused to pull over and after the crash ran from the car to the church. >> it's definitely scary because i have a little sister and a family. >> police are not saying if the

man had a gun, they did not explain what prompted the start of the chase. >> it was pretty scary. >> and right now you're looking live at crime scene investigator who is remain busy. they are pulling up some shell casings tr the shooting that happened right there near the sidest sidesteps. both the car who was being chased are leading the police on that chase. as well as the car he crashed into. the good news for this is they have reopened philadelphia pike to traffic. the nbc 10 investigators have been looking into police shootings and they found 14 incidents of officers killing suspects since 2013. this year there have been two deadly police shootings so far. this one in wilmington and one near new castle. >> our other breaking news, guilty on all charges in the last 30 minutes a verdict came down for the man on trial for the deadly ambush style attack

on pennsylvania state troopers. nbc 10's randy gyllenhaal is live outside the courthouse. you were inside the courtroom when that verdict was read. did you see frein react at all? >> reporter: as he was throughout had this entire trial, no emotion from eric frein. he was very stoic. just staring at the jury. it was just after 5:00 p.m. that the jury returned to the courtroom to read the verdict. guilty on all counts, that includes the capital murder charge for the killing of brian dixon, the attempted murder charge of injuring douglas and other charges like terrorism and weapons of mass destruction. this verdict capping off a long two and a half years in pike county. and after the sniper ambush, the ensuing 48-day manhunt and now the trial. in closing arguments, the district attorney was blunt calling frein a terrorist with murder in his heart and a rifle in his hand.

the jury saw that rifle, plus a lot of other evidence including surveillance video of the attack. and for two hours, the prosecution recapped their evidence. the defense only spoke for ten minutes. frein kept quiet and the next step is seeking the death penalty in this case. >> we will be working towards the appropriate sentencing verdict in this case with aggravating factors we're going to ask the jury to consider the appropriate sentence in this case. >> the the next step is very important to us, we've been preparing tr it over two years. we're hoping to save his life. >> that's frein's defense team there. as we mentioned, they did not present any evidence or call any witnesses during the criminal portion of this kriel trooil. now we're at the penalty phase. they do expect to call some members of eric frein's family to testify on his behalf.

a mild night. and tomorrow look at this. all the way up into the 70s with some cloud cover. but a few peeks of sunshine. >> now to the countdown to next week's nfl draft. now from the big event, we have a look at the philadelphia museum of art. the nfl transforming the front of the museum to make way for the big draft. nbc 10 was there today to take a look at the progress. workers are building a theater at the base of the museum featuring the rocky steps. the draft is even more special for football moms like carmon word. her son is a cornerback for james madison university. >> this is like, wow. this is the stuff you see on tv in chicago and california. now it's in philly. it's really happening. >> the event will cover 25 football fields. it opens the public a week from tomorrow. opening statements are set to start tomorrow in the murder

trial of a man charge canned with killing his own son. jury selection wrapped up today. he's charged with killing a 3-year-old two years ago. police say he killed him because the boy got in the way of his relationship with his teenaged girlfriend. we are expect iing an updat friday in the case of an off duty police officer who was who authorities say shot her husband in the groin during a domestic dispute. bucks county investigators say it happened in the driveway of the cup couplcouple's home. the husband was taken to the hospital and had surgery. the officer did not use her service gun in that shooting. no charges have been filed. warning for teens and parents in one delaware county. they are stepping up patrols in the week of bad behavior by teens. everything from underage drinking to vandalism. anyone caught causing trouble will face fines. the company is discussing the proposed fair increase at a public hearing at the

courthouse. the rate hike is for all modes of travel and would start july 1st. the next hearing is at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow at the bucks county library. for a complete list of hearings, go to nbc10.com. controversial plan to renovate an historic building in engineermantown may not happen. at a meeting today, the commission said the boys and girls club building may be up for preservation nomination. if that happens, the organization could lose the fund ing it needs to renovate the property. another meeting is set for next month. the long-awaited reopening of the former casino will now happen june 15th. the casino will feature 1500 hotel room asks a nightclub. the development authority says it's still waiting for required paperwork like a landscaping plan and traffic study. delaware lawmakers are talking marijuana legalization in wilmington today. governor carney was among those who took part in today's
