a south jersey dad accused of killing his son. the former patriots star found dead in his prison cell yesterday. and changes coming to some cvs stores. so if you have a sweet tooth it could be a big disappointment. right now at 11:00 some showers are lingering in parts of our area. we give you a live look at first alert radar. expect sunshine and temperatures to soar. erika martin is tracking it all. >> yeah. with are tracking a warm up.

already seeing a break in the clouds. yes. we are still seeing spotty showers. for the most part we are seeing a break in the clouds and we will get ready for a warm up. doppler radar right now picking up on light returns. everything mainly offshore. we do have more rain on the way. that is to the northwest of us. around philadelphia seeing lots of 60s. chestnut hill at 62. we also have 62 for fox chase. parkwood 1 degree cooler at 62 degrees. the le tps high valley also seeing really nice warm temperatures. easton 59 degrees. future temperatures. we want to add a couple of points. look how warm it starts to get as the sun breaks on through. we'll pause this at 6:00 p.m. we are already seeing low 70s.

we do have an on shore influence. we have chillier temperatures for the jersey shore and we go ahead and move into your friday afternoon and friday evening. we top out in the upper 70s to low 80s. this is what your temp trend looks like. it is 61 on saturday and sunday. i amtraking potential for rounds of thunderstorms. so coming up in just a bit i have more information on that. >> okay. thank you very much. attorneys are delivering their opening statements this morning in the trial of d.j.creato. testimony just got underway. the trial just got underway this morning. nbc 10's pamela osborne is standing by live. what's the latest? >> reporter: things are moving along pretty quickly this morning. they have been through opening statements and they were going over some of the witness testimony inside of the courtroom. there is a short break they are on right now.

so far what we have heard is system from the officer that first responded to creato's 911 call. they testified creato was cooperative. they have also taken a look at the apartment where he lived and where brenden spent weekends. during the opening statements this morning the prosecution set the tone of what they intend to do. they allege he killed his three-year-old son in october of 2015. he pleaded not guilty says his son simply wandered out of the apartment. the prosecution says evidence will show that is not the case. brenden is afraid of the dark. it is their evidence that he would not have walked off into the place where his body was found in the dark of night. brenden wasn't wearing any

shoes. when his body was discovered his socks were clean. and then there's the girlfriend. they say creato was in a relationship with a teen. she almost cancelled a visit because it was also brenden's weekend with him. he was going to take her back to new york and brenden was repo reported missing. here is a portion of the 911 call. >> 911, what is your emergency? >> i woke up and my three-year-old is missing. i woke up and he wasn't in my apartment. i don't know where he is. the door was locked. i guess he unlocked it and left. >> reporter: and the defense is arguing back that creato did not and would not harm his child for that relationship or for $100 that came up during testimony. $100 that he apparently owed the

mother of the child for school. they said he wouldn't have done it. that's the latest here for camden county. nbc 10 news. >> thank you. jurors in the eric frein case. frein faces the death penalty or life of prison. yesterday he was found guilty in a shooting that killed a state trooper and injured another. right now pennsylvania has a moratorium. the last execution was in 1999. police trying to figure out a crime in north philadelphia. one person was stabbed and another pistol whipped on broad street early this morning. they don't know what lead to the violence. police also took one of the victims into custody. we are working to find out why. we expect to learn more today about a police chase and deadly shooting in new castle county. they say they were following a suspect yesterday afternoon who refused to pull over his car. a chase began and is officers

were involved in several car crashes. eventually the man crashed and ran from his car. that's when there was a confrontation outside a church. officers fired and then killed the plan. >> we heard a couple. you know what i mean? bang bang and we got startled and we came out. >> police did not explain why they wanted the man to pull over in the first place. we are waiting for investigators on whether or not he was armed. police hope this surveillance video will help them find attackers who randomly beat a man. the victim just interviewed saturday afternoon when the three men beat him until he was unconscious. we showed the 25-year-old followed the surveillance video. he had seen it and he didn't want to show his face. >> it is dangerous.

i hope it doesn't happen to nobody. >> police say the three men stole the victim's wallet and kren foal. if you recognize these men detectives want to hear from you. an afternoon turns scary for one woman along the trail in philadelphia. a woman was roller blading on the trail and a group of at least seventeen aged boys surrounded her. one of the teens groped her before they rode off. the woman wasn't hurt but we talked with people about safety along the trail. >> it is terrible. >> there have been similar groping incident. emergency mile markers were also added to light poles along the trail.

we have learned the man convicted of raping and killing a university graduate died by suicide in a montgomery county prison. harris was sentenced to life in prison for the 2015 murder of jasmine wright. investigators are searching for whoever spray painted this cat purple and burned him. the cat named churchhill was found in a park. a witness said kids were abusing him. he was treated at an animal rescue center. this is the second cat found abused this month. the other cat is also recovering. time to check in with jessica boyington. >> we are watching the expressway. it is right around belmont avenue. that ramp is closed. a diesel fuel spill.

they will start to shift by later this afternoon into the evening hours. here we start to see a bit of an on shore influence. what does it mean? it means the jersey shore will see much cooler temperatures even though they will climb very quickly above average for today by later this evening. we'll see a dip in temperatures along the jersey shore. heads up on that. satellite and radar. earlier this morning we were seeing scattered showers. look at this break in those clouds. in those showers these returns you're seeing right now, the greens on the screen are not make it. what is behind that, it will be there soon enough. we do have the threat of isolated thunderstorms. really late tonight, in fact the latest models pushing the isolated thunderstorms to about 10:00 or 11:00 p.m. and certainly through the overnight hours. keep that in mind. if you're drooifg late tonight you may encounter one or two isolated thunderstorms late.

philadelphia, your outdoor forecast 75 degrees by 6:00 p.m. certainly a warm day. enjoy it. get outside and enjoy it. we are seeing a break in those clouds. not a washout for today. it is a pretty nice day all around. pa suburbs showing us the threat of thunderstorms by about 10:00 p.m. his why i am going to keep that in there as those models start to update i will keep you ip dated. you can follow us on philadelphia. you do not have that icon for thunderstorms. there is lenty of clouds in the mix. so hour by hour forecast will show us those showers moving in and that clearing. notice here by 9:00 or 10:00 p.m. we start to see oranges and reds here moving into the lehigh valley. for the rest of our viewing area we are not seeing much. i think we will see areas of patchy fog. keep that in mind.

it does happen any time we do see a cold front sweep on through. so here we start to see that rain picking up with the threat of isolated thunderstorms. by about 1:00 a.m. still seeing chances of thunderstorms but mainly north of our viewing area here. by early tomorrow morning we are seeing some scattered showers. keep in mind again, the threat of that fog. the average low is 45 degrees. tonight it will be nice and toesty as far as i'm concerned. trenton 57. wilmington and dover a warm 60. atlantic city at 55 degrees. a major decline in temperatures. we go from 80s on friday to 61 on sunday. i bumped this up 2 degrees.

heroin. we are celebrating prevention and giving people hope that if someone is addicted there is hope for that person. we are seeing an alarming amount of overdoses as a result of heroin abuse. >> i read this morning, and you can confirm this or maybe it is not exactly right, but over 200 people died of dental overdose? >> yes. we are up to 65 laalready. the number that's staggering is our police departments have administered over 580 doses saving those lives. these are individuals that are addi addicted. police were able to save their lives. we need to get them to be recovered. >> delaware county launched a heroin task force. tell us about the success and how it is homing people that are

addicted. what we have been able to accomplish is drug drop boxes. we have been able to collect unused and expired prescription medication in excess of 211,000 pounds. we have been try to go teach kids how dangerous they are and how they lead to heroin addiction. we also were able to equip all of the police departments and we are continuing to fight the heroin and opiod accept depidem. >> what has been the reresponse from those who care about their sons and daughters who have this issue? >> it is horrible. i'm the defense attorney and i'm also a parent. it is devastating to have a child that's addicted. the worse thing you could hear is that your daughter was found deceased or son was found
