prosecutors say the suspect was consumed with jealousy when his son's body was found in the woods in october of 2015. the boy's mother appeared calm and collected when she recalled the hours after her son disappeared and was later found dead. >> rosemary connors was in that courtroom for the mother's testimony and is joined live from camden. dramatic testimony today. >> the mother is a witness for the prosecution. today the assistant district attorney told the jury that during this trial, they will also hear from medical experts who will testify that damage to the boy's brain shows that he may have been choked or he may have been drown. today the first part of it included the 911 call the boy's father made to police. listening to his own words, the 23 year old sat in silence as

prosecutors argued that he killed his own son. police say they discovered the 3 year old in a creek in cooper river park the same morning his father reported him missing from his apartment on october 13th, 2015. the alleged motive, according to prosecutors, money trouble and a teenage girlfriend starting college who wanted the toddler out of the picture. today the boy's mother took the stand and testified that she had an unusual conversation with him which she recorded about what may have happened to her son. >> reporter: on cross, the defense asked the victim's mother about the relationship with his son when the 3 of them lived together with their parents in the first year of the boy's life. >> he was sweet and loving the way a father should be to his

son? >> yes. >> you never had any doubts that he loved his son, did you? >> no. >> in opening arguments, the prosecution told the jury in the overnight hours before the boy was discovered dead, he was checking his girlfriend's social media accounts and learned she was talking to another young man. the prosecution says the college girlfriend is not a suspect. it's the prosecution's time to present their case. they go first. still on cross, the defense is able to point out that the defendant in this case had been cooperative with police during the search for his son and that the son knew how to unlock doors. i spoke with the defense attorney off camera and says they have yet to decide whether d.j. will take the stand and defend himself. we'll of course keep you posted. reporting live in camden county, rosemary connors, nbc 10 news.

frein guilty on all accounts yesterday and defense team trying to avoid the death penalty for him. >> reporter: it's typically the judge that hands down sentences but in this case it will be the jury. yesterday their verdict guilty on all counts and now they'll have to decide whether to put eric frein on death row. the verdict no surprise in the poconos but a long time coming. >> i think they'll give him the death penalty. i think he deserves it. >> after the ambush attack, locals now wait for a decision on the death penalty. >> he killed one man and had a family. the other one i guess is injured for life. >> pennsylvania hasn't executed anyone since 1999, but eric frein still faces the prospect of capital punishment. his defense will ask the jury to spare his life. his family could testify to his character.

4:00. we are joined live from wilmington for details. >> the suspect's name is keith price. he was known to law enforcement. past convictions include conspiracy in the second degree and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. his life ended at the hands of police right there in the church parking lot. >> my first call was a friend of mine. did you hear about st. helena's. >> new castle police shot and killed keith price in the parking lot of st. helena's catholic church. >> i would like to know this is taken care of for a good reason and something that couldn't have been avoided. >> police officers attempted to stop keith price in the area of 24th street and market street. >> reporter: new castle county police say price is a suspected

gunman in a shooting on april 9th. officers tried to arrest him yesterday afternoon. they say the 21 year old tried to get away first driving his green civic toward police and then crashing into their cars before speeding away. an officer fired one shot but it did not slow him down. >> police initiated a vehicle pursuit which ended when keith price crashed his civic into uninvolved motorists. >> reporter: that brings us to the church where officers ran after price. >> the police officers were screaming get on the ground. get on the ground! >> reporter: police say price emerged from the bush's with a gun. that's when two officers opened fire killing the 21 year old. >> i heard four. bang, bang, bang. one right after another. and they were just so loud. it was terrifying. >> police say they recovered keith price's gun at the scene. a 3 year and 18-year veteran of the police department. those officers are on routine paid administrative leave as the

situation continues to be investigated. all of those involved in the car crash that includes officers and innocent bystanders were treated and released from the hospital. reporting live in north wilmington, nbc 10 news. >> we have new details about the ouster of bill o'reilly at forks ne -- fox news today. he'll receive up to one-year's salary. as much as $25 million. o'reilly was fired yesterday amid multiple sexual harassment allegations. his show was renamed "the factor." the 67 year old denied the claims and in a satatement said it was tremendous disheartening to leave fox on unfounded claims. aaron hernandez's family wants to donate his brain to science but massachusetts officials are refusing to release it. the former nfl star was found yesterday hanging in a prison cell where he was serving a life sentence for a 2013 murder.

hernandez's lawyer is accusing the state's chief medical examiner of illegally holding the 27-year-old's brain and says he's prepared to go to court to get it back. >> we're going to take whatever steps are necessary including actions in court and in we need to name specific individuals in a civil lawsuit, that's exactly what we'll do. >> hernandez's family arranged for the brain to be given to researchers looking at brain trauma in athletes. border security in the spotlight in texas today. jeff sessions is in el paso as part of the tour of the border area with mexico. the attorney general made immigration enforcement a key justice department priority. >> the sidewalk on the south side of the white house is now off limits. it's been closed overnight for the past two years but now it will remain that way around the clock. the same restrictions are already in place on the north side of the white house.

they are security measures aimed at preventing people from illegally getting on white house grounds. authorities arrested a man they say was stalking malia obama. the man showed up at obama's workplace in manhattan three days last week with a sign proposing marriage and in one instance he managed to slip past security and make it to the fourth floor where he begged the 18 year old to marry him. he was picked up by secret service. >> testimony expected to wrap up in the trial of a philadelphia teenager accused of robbing and killing a man who was walking his dog. brandon smith was one of three teens that shot and killed stillman just over two years ago. a 15 year old has already pleaded guilty to third-degree murder. a 14 year old was also arrested. his case was handled in juvenile court. candidates looking to replace philadelphia's district attorney will sell their ideas tonight. seven democrats and one

republican will field questions during a forum at the belmont mansion at 6:30. the city's primary election is may 16th. current d.a. seth williams served two terms but is not seeking re-election. williams is awaiting trial for federal bribery charges. just last week his law license was temporarily suspended. the family of the ohio man killed in last weekend's so-called facebook murder, they are opening up about an artist's creation that inspired them. robert godwin sr. was gunned down on easter sunday. his killer posted video of that rand omom attack on facebook. a portrait was created and the image received thousands of comments and shares online. it also caught the eye of godwin's daughter who thought it captured her dad's spirit and offered to buy the piece but the artist sent it to her for free. >> how it really captured my dad's spirit. it is really, you know, so true

of the humble and gentle man that he was. >> robert godwin will be laid to rest on saturday. he was 74 years old. godwin's killer took his own life tuesday after being spotted at a mcdonald's in erie, pennsylvania. a worker recognized steve stephens and she called 911 and workers stalled stephens saying his fries weren't ready and police showed up. today philadelphia announced a new historic preservation task force. the mayor made the announcement at city hall this morning. he said the task force will be looking to other cities to see how they preserve their history and he wants you to help with ideas too. >> task force meetings will be open to the public and i hope residents, businesses, civic associations and other stake holders will participate. >> the mayor said historic preservation ordinance the city has in place is more than 30 years old and the city is a much different place now.

back to breaking news we're following in paris. authorities are sealing off the area around the city's famed champs-elysees. the attack comes three days before the first round of balloting in france's tenth presidential election. president trump addressed the shooting in paris just moments ago as he welcomed italy's prime minister to the white house. >> mr. trump is offering his condolences to the people of paris. >> it's a very, very terrible thing that's going on in the world today. it looks like another terrorist attack and what can you say? it just never ends. we have to be strong and vigilant. >> this is mr. trump's first meeting with italy's leader. he heads to italy next month for

a 7-year-old south jersey boy who saved his mom's life is getting more praise, this time on the national stage. >> everyone is calling this boy a hero. even steve harvey. >> the 7 year old was on the steve harvey show today. his mother was having a medical emergency and he knew exactly what to do. >> please welcome danielle and her son rocco. >> he's just 7 years old but rocco is a hero. >> who is your hero? >> spider-man.

>> how do you feel when people call you a hero like spider-man? >> happy. you should be, boy. you saved your mama's life, man. >> it was march 3rd when his mother started coughing uncontrollably and motioned him to get her phone and call 911. >> 911, what is your emergency? >> my mom can't breathe. >> rocco stayed calm and stayed on the phone with dispatchers for nearly nine minutes answering questions until first responders could arrive. >> rocco likely saved his mother's life. >> i don't remember a lot of what happened. to hear that is very hard to hear when it's your 7-year-old son.

nbc 10 breaking news. >> we begin with breaking news all new at 5:00, a south philadelphia soccer coach is charged after police say he got one of his teen players pregnant. >> we learned he was a volunteer at a city rec center. lauren, you just heard back from the city. how do these screen these volunteers? >> we wanted to know whether they did a background check. any adult volunteering at a park and rec facility is supposed to get clearance. they are investigating whether any rules were not followed.

francisco prado-contreras is charged with statutory sexual assault. police arrested him after a 15-year-old girl came forward saying he might be the father of her 7-month-old baby. sky force 10 flew over the playground with francisco prado-contreras coached the team. the girl said he was a family friend and she played on that soccer team. in 2015, she asked him for a job and he said instead he paid her to have sex with him. a city spokesperson tells me that francisco prado-contreras has been suspended from all parks and rec facilities. we're expecting to learn more about this case very shortly. police are holding a news conference this hour and we'll be there. we'll bring you more information as we get it. back to you. >> thank you. now to more breaking news in france. a police officer killed in paris. you're looking live at the police response to that shooting right now.
