forecast. >> not much rain right now. we did see steady showers sweep through the area. ocean city saw rain. cloudy skies there. they have taken the tarp off the infield. i think we'll get more showers before this evening. that might be a little premature. the temperatures, essentially we have a tarp overhead. that is keeping temperatures in the 50s right now for lehigh valley. philadelphia, south jersey and the shore all in the 50s. they barely budged this morning. temperatures will climb. if we get the sunshine we will make it in the 70s. there are the last showers moving through ocean county towards the shore. plenty of clouds. some thin spots in the clouds. any sunshine this morning and last hour of the morning will be brief. a better chance we'll see breaks of sunshine this afternoon. we are in the 50s right now. we'll see temperatures climb

into the 60s for lehigh valley. the next round of showers moves in this afternoon. i'll show you when you'll need your umbrella later today. breaking news this morning where crews are working to put out a house fire there it is over mechanic and lewis street. authorities tell us there are no reports of any injuries. we'll keep you updated on the air and on the nbc 10 app. anchts sho a shooting overnight left a man in critical condition. >> it also just missed a man. nearly two dozen bullet casings. around 11:00 last night police in the area heard gunfire. officers followed the car and saw someone drove two weapons out of the window. police are questioning the two people in the car. one of the bullets went through

a window and lodged in a man's bed. >> that individual is extremely lucky. had he been sitting up, if he would have got out of bed and looked out his window he could have been struck by gunfire. >> so far no word on a motive for the shooting. in pennsylvania today the family of erick frein is expected to ask for mercy. the widow told jurors about her family's difficulties. he shot one trooper and injured another. he may have to have one of he has legs amputated. a father on trial for the murder of his three-year-old child.

they called david creato's theory odd and unexplainable. they say he killed him because the boy was getting in the way of his relationship with his teenaged girlfriends. new details about the suspect police shot and killed after a choice there. they identified him as keith price. he was wanted in connection with a shooting earlier this month. they tried to arrest him on wednesday and he drove off. he came out with a gun and officers opened fire. plis arrested a philadelphia youth soccer coach who is accused of getting one of his players pregnant. they arrested him after getting an unanimous tip that the 15-year-old girl now has seven month old child. they say he coached her soccer team. she went to him asking for work

at his cleaning business. instead police say he talked the girl into having sex with him several times, paying her each time. >> as a parent you want to believe your children -- everyone that has best interest for your child. >> they learned he was not an employed soccer coach but a volunteer for his league. philadelphia parks and rec say he has no affiliation with them. federal prosecutors expected to announce a list of witnesses and evidence they will present at the corruption trial of seth williams. his law license is extended as he awaits trial. trying to figure out how a five-year-old girl was left to

wand are alone for more than half an hour. this is a story you'll only see on nbc 10. the girl was supposed to get off at 5th and main street. she got off the bus a half mile away. surveillance shows her oning beside a busy road. her grandmother was frantic when the five-year-old didn't come home. >> i thought she was abducted. i didn't know where she was. i was in devastation. >> they were reunited about 30 minutes later. the school district said we want all of our parent and students to feel confident and comfortable and we'll continue to investigate this. happening now more than 400 people are coming together to make change happen. >> yeah. they are joining with friends, family and members of the community to help keep a local

treasure shipshape. they are doing volunteer work as part of the comcast cares program. we are live to show us what's happening. >> reporter: we were just up there a little bit achlgt go. a lot of activity aboard the battleship as we kick off comcast cares day. as you said, more than 400 volunteers with comcast and nbc universal are here pitching in to restore the ship. keep in mind, the battleship new jersey is the length of three football fields. no shortage of projects to do on the ship. there were people cleaning the deck and they were also getting a helicopter nice and clean.

watching them carry out the ropes give you an idea of the type of team work taking place today. >> it is really a volunteer organization. we are a small staff. we don't have the sailors like the government used to have. volunteers are important. >> reporter: there was even something to do for the little ones today. it is one of the many volunteer projects. 900 are planned nationwide. the big day is tomorrow. anyone can register to get involved. you do not have to be a comcast employee. all you have to do is head over to nbc10.com and you can find a list of volunteer opportunities happening near you tomorrow and you can register to join us as well. i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >> all right. thanks for that.

time to check the roads. it was a busy morning. let's find out what's happening now with jessica boyington. >> yeah. you're looking at the bridge near ben franklin. >> yeah. right now there's a disabled vehicle on the westbound side causing some delays. that traffic is moving from new jersey heading into philadelphia right now. you can see we have some of that red. the left lane is blocked. traffic is getting by. this is once you get on the bridge. i checked in with my cameras there moving towards the ben franklin bridge. you also can have an alternate as well. no scheduled openings there. it could be your alternate. also here is the vine tree expressway. once you're there a little bit slow approaching the expressway. those are cameras around 24th street. watch for this crash. back to you guys.

>> thanks for that. philadelphia continues to get ready to host the nfl draft. a live look now at the theater being built. it is really coming along. fans can park free at the sports complex and pay to ride the broad street line. 200,000 fans are expected to check out the nfl experience all along the parkway. >> going to be huge. >> uh-huh. we are learning details about the gunman in yesterday's deadly police shooting days before france's presidential election. and the nationwide search for a tennessee teacher who took off with his teacher is over. new information about how the two were found. >> first round of rain has all right moved through. there was more than half an ircinch in some spots. there is another round on the way. look at when you can expect that just ahead.

decided to allow the state to proceed with its plan. a firefighters fell from a rooftop in queens. he leaves behind a wife and eight-year-old daughter. officials don't know yet what caused him to fall from this building. three people suffered minor injuries. investigators are looking into how it started. we have details about three officers who were injured responding to an officer in seattle. police exchanged fire with one of them. that man barricaded himself in a building and was later found dead inside. the other suspect was arrested. one officer was shot twice and is in serious but stable condition. two other officers were treated for minor injuries. a teacher accused of kidnapping a teenaged student. they arrested tad cummins. the pair disappeared on march

13th. they believe he kidnapped her after researching teen marriage. in january a student reported seeing cummins kissing thomas. the caretaker said cummins told him he was down to his last $10 and he let him move into one of the unfinished cabins but he knew something wasn't quite right. >> he would talk for her a lot. he always kept her in the car. she would be like she is asleep or whatever. i was like okay. >> cummins is facing federal charges for transporting a child over state lines for sex. look at drivers trying to escape rising waters got stuck.

forecasters are predicting more rain with hail, high winds and more rain with possibility of tornados. some areas could get as much as 6 inches of rain today alone. we saw less than a half in most neighborhoods this morning. there is more on the way. there is a possibility of a downpour. there is a chance chance of a thunderstorm. it is not a big chance today. it really put a lid on temperatures and not just for philadelphia. this is a view. we saw some breaks in the clouds. rain has already moved through. we'll likely see more rain on the way. warmer temperatures are farther to the south. delaware at 57. 56 degrees in harmony hills.

60s to the south. bridgeville now 65 degrees. 60 in lincoln. we'll see temperatures climb a bit more. still a possibility we'll get breaks in the clouds. the next possibility of showers won't be just limited to the lehigh valley. it is more likely these showers will be moving from maryland into delaware this afternoon. if you look closely there's a line in here that's a possibility for lehigh valley as we go into late afternoon and early evening hours. 3:00 this afternoon you can see scattered showers into upper chester county. a few rain drops for wilmington. no sign of the really warm weather. it is 64 in philadelphia. there is still a chance we could get sunshine and it could pop

temperatures in the 70s. there are clouds hanging in there. here comes the next rountd of showers. those showers might see a brief downpour, mainly light at 7:00. phils game starts at 7:05. might see a few rain drops for the begins. look how it dries out for your saturday. saturday mostly dry. saturday night it's a different story. we are watching these showers. this is rain that will start moving our way. by start afternoon you see clouds and a chance of showers. more likely the showers coming in during the evening hours even more likely we'll see rainfall on sunday. so there's a possibility that you'll need your umbrella over the weekend. for today we are seeing temperatures in the 60s. the weekend will be cool too and 60s as well. some breaks of sunshine. mostly cloudy day.

the ninth inning into the low 60s. mostly cloudy this evening. i think it will be dry for the evening game. right now watching temperatures. starting to warm up after being stuck in the 50s all morning. it is heading towards the 60s there. lehigh valley. redding at 56 and 52 in potstown. without it it will be 60s at best this afternoon. doppler and satellite here showing you clouds that are over philadelphia. the showers are moving through eastern and southeast earn lancaster county. really the next round of showers is farther to the west. we had that nice rain this morning. now looking a little less likely for rain this afternoon. there is part of this system. there is more on the way. you can see heavy downpours and moving into missouri.

that's a possibility for us this weekend. the best chance of seeing those showers coming through on sunday. we may see showers develop saturday night. most of the day saturday, tomorrow will be dry. 60s for saturday but it cools down with chance of rain on sunday. that won't be the only chance of rain. a slight chance this afternoon. it is 69 in philadelphia. cooler this weekend. clouds may be a little bit of sunshine but should be dry for most of saturday. evening showers are a possibility on saturday and sunday wet weather is likely. 6 1 after a morning low of 46 degrees. chance of rain looks like it will continue into monday and possibly tuesday. look at temperatures holding in the upper 50s and low 60s for both days. we finally get sunshine coming through in a big way. wednesday 49 degrees with partly sunny skies.
