did not commit. >> it's been a struggle, hard struggle. just can't give up. >> reporter: a struggle endured from the pennsylvania innocence program convincing a young to vacate the conviction in a 1999 killing in north philly. then a teenaged thomas claimed he was four miles away held at the old youth study site in trouble but only for trying to steal a motorcycle. not a murder. his attorney said that key discrepancy stood out. >> first thing caught my eye is shawn said seemed to be basically true. >> reporter: after years without her son nearby, thomas' mom puts the pain behind her. >> i'm glad to see him walk out the gate. that's all i wanted. >> reporter: with his fiancee by his side, thomas said the future isn't plans for a permanent return to philadelphia. >> philadelphia caused me too many heart aches. >> reporter: heart aches now healing with lessons learned

along the way. >> always remember the truth. can't remember a lie. that's what set me free. >> thomas said he'd like to move down south and maybe put to use the culinary arts degree he got in prison. where did thomas have the first meal out of prison? red lobster on roosevelt boulevard. all right. new at 11:00, a false alarm causes panic in south jersey tonight. officials say a fake emergency message went out about the hope creek nuclear generating station. dispatchers said they received phone calls of the fake alert about two hours ago. officials say the alert was related to a drill and never should have gone out. tonight, we are learning more about the man allegedly behind the deadly bombing at a grande concert in manchester, england. the suspected attacker is salman abedi. he was well-known by authorities. a u.s. intelligence official says abedi received training

abroad by a terrorist group. investigators piece together what happened, young people are trying to come to grips with the tragedy that left 22 people dead and injured 59 others. >> it wasn't the people -- a person that killed little children like me, my age, and younger. >> british prime minister may announced today that the terror threat level has been raised to critical meaning more attacks could be imminent. back here at home tonight, the search is on for the gunman that fired more than 30 shots into a home killing one person and injuring two others. happened just before 6:00 here on high school street in east germantown. investigators say at least two suspects wearing all black jumped into a suv and took off after the shooting. two of the victims are in stable condition at the hospital. new at 11:00, we are getting the first look at a 2-year-old boy who survived being shot four

to keep blacks off the jury for the sex assault trial after prosecutors used the strikes to keep two black women off the panel. the defense team and prosecutors have chosen 11 jurors so far. seven men and four women. only one of the juries is black. a new jury pool will be summoned tomorrow for the final juror and six alternates. crosby is charged with drugging and raping a former employee. he said the encounter was consensual. new at 11:00, van initialled without a trace. a community is working together to find a missing mother. nbc 10 with neighbors as they passed out fliers and looked for clues. and as nbc 10's brandon hudson reports, that search stretches from here to poland. >> reporter: state police say this is where they found the missing mom's car. people in the community, some of them who didn't know this woman, are passing around fliers to

10.com. also tonight, comedian jim brewer hosted a comedy show for a police officer in gloucester county. it was held at punch line comedy club. the officer's wife danielle was six months pregnant when she was diagnosed with cancer in february. she delivered their baby boy jake before losing her battle with cancer three days later. the gofundme page raised nearly $93,000 for max and his family and all the money from tonight will be donated to them. more honors tonight for a comedian and philly native kevin hart. the award recognizes individuals for impact on the region. hart accepted the award at the philadelphia museum of art and got a tour. we sat down with hart tonight to talk about what the award means to him. >> i'm a philadelphia boy. at heart. and, you know, when you can do anything to bring attention to your city, of course, i do. but when your city shows that

the one moving along the gulf coast and got here quickly. heaviest rain right now from dover off toward lewis, cape may picking up heavier showers. morris river, the same there. but for the rest of the area, we are just looking at either drizzle or light sprinkles. all of this to work way through the philadelphia area tonight and then gone for tomorrow morning's commute unless you're a very early morning commuter and then focusing on the huge area of low pressure in the plains and will be the weather maker by the time of thursday. although the models tamed it down a bit. hour by hour, this is what happens. we watch the showers northward. a lot of activity's going to stay across south jersey and delaware and all going to have wet windchills waking up in the morning. early morning commute for a sprinkle and then dry for tomorrow afternoon and then 3:00 on thursday morning and tomorrow night into thursday morning, heavy rain in philadelphia. this will be during the early morning commute. should start to taper off as we

head into the afternoon. and then another batch for the second half of the evening commute. temperatures on thursday only in the 60s once again. we get into friday, we see the 70s. we start to dry out. we'll have two very nice days. for tomorrow, looking at 73 in fairmont. allentown, 75. 73 in redding. we'll see clouds with a few peeks of sunshine. newark, you'll see 71. so, your ten-day on 10, 73 for tomorrow. we could see a brief shower early in the morning and then clouds and sunshine peeks in the afternoon. 74 on friday. 80 on saturday. this is your barbecue day in your neighborhood because we'll see some rain showers on sunday and perhaps a scattered shower as we head into the holiday itself. otherwise, we move right back into the rain for next tuesday. guys, over to you. >> all right. look who's joining us now?

glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> we know last summer's heat was intense. can we expect more of that next summer? >> some people like it hot and dry. others like it cool and damp. but you want to save on electricity and the lawn stay greener? the weather this summer just might help. not many of these last summer. it was very dry overall. a drought in the spring and then it was drier than normal here every month from june to september. that's often the case in dry summers, also hot. real hot. in july and august, more than half of the days at least 90 degrees. and we had unusually long heat waves in both july and august. hot, dry summers often lead to the best weather at the shore and we had a lot of great weather weekends last summer. great for business, too. and not this time. instead of 46 days of 90 degrees or higher last summer, 30 to 40
