jumping into action pap thief learns the hard way that he messed with the wrong woman. ♪ nbc 10 news starts now. >> holy cow. holy cow is right from hail to heavy rain and lightning, it's been a wet and noisy night. this viewer got stuck in his car waiting for the hail to end and look at the rain in new castle county. hopefully you had your umbrella with you out there tonight. our cameras in wilmington and philadelphia caught a lot of lightning. the first alert weather team is tracking all of it right now and this radar on wheels gets us closer to the storm and helpess us give you the it most accurate neighborhood forecast. let's get the latest with first alert meteorologist tammie souza. >> we send it out to blue bell. i waunt to show you the wide

picture of what's going on p. you can see we have lightning moving through the area as well. we're going to zoom in. right here is where we have storm ranger. and we're going to look at the most intense reflekativity and that is generally thuf west and the south at this point. so storm ranger is centered in blue bell. you're getting heavy rain right now. we have heavy rain across portions of the area. we split it up so you can see the intensity. that's the point of storm ranger to get right under the storm and show wryou what's going on. i add in the other radar and you can see not only with storm ranger and philadelphia tapering off. we go up to pennington and trenton and we're seeing some of the heavier rain right now. so you can see the value of

having several radars including wunl that's right beneath you. we'll continue to see the showers taper off. tomorrow we're going to get a little bit of a break but when i come back we're going to talk about the all important holiday weekend. nbc 10 has new video from the scene of that deadly helicopter crash in delaware. nbc 10 has the latest from the scene in new castle county. >> reporter: crews are mucoving parts of the damaged helicopters to the back of the truck. the ntsb plans to check out radar data and see if weather or maintenance played a factor in this crash. for the first time tonight we got a glimpse of the wreckage in new castle. piece by piece they picked up the charred debris, collected for the ntsb investigation.

>> i can't never forget this incident. sfwlrks s >> reporter: she worked in an office feet away from where the crash happened. >> we came running and we saw big smoke coming out of there and it was a big fire. >> reporter: she says apter fel. the debris left a huge hole in the front wind shield but knowing the pilot died brought her to tears. >> i can't explain how sad it must be for that guy. who he was, i don't know. >> delaware state police have identified the pilot from franklin vill, new jersey. they say he crashed into a drainage ditch behind a u.s. post office building. he was the only person on board. an ntsb safety investigator says they could shed light on any

unusual activity. >> we are getting air traffic control tapes. >> reporter: murphy was a back up pilet for sky force 10. the ntsb will release its first report in 10 days. nbc 10 news. the last victim to be pulled for ulthe rubble of collapsed salvation army building has been awarded more than $95 million. she was trapped for 13 hours. she lost the lower half of her body and received the largest part of the record settlement. seven people were killd and a dozen others injured when a building collapsed on to a salvation army thrift store. new at 11:00, two philadelphia police officers are in the hospital after an accident. their cruiser collide would at least two other cars on roosevelt boulevard. one of the persons was also

taken on the hospital. all three are listed in stable condition tonight. a show of unity this evening in montgomery county. neighbors wanted to send a message that hate is not welcome in their communities. drew smith showed us how they plan to continue to fight. >> they heard about them dropped off across the river in new jersey. >> it's happening all over. >> inflyers of hate came into my ward. >> reporter: it's recruitment material for the ku klux klan. >> people think it's okay as if they're asking them to join the boy scouts. >> reporter: tonight people with a variety of faiths and backgrounds set a goal. >> when you touch your heart with someone's story purse cushion and shattered hopes, it

house alection. voters went to the polls just a day after gianforte was charged with assault for allegedly attacking a reporter. >> sick and tired of you guys. the last guy who came in here did the same thing. get the hell out of here. >> the guardian reporter posted that audio of what he says is gianforte body slamming him and breaking his glasses. early results show he and his democratic opponent neck and neck in the race. president trump plans to take a spike for the revised travel ban. the u.s. circuit court of appeals targets six predominantly muslim countries. the justice department will ask the supreme court to review that ruling. federal immigration have taken nearly 200 people off the

streets in the past 10 days. ice says 186 people were arested in pennsylvania. delaware and west virginia. it was aimed at reentrance and other immigration violators. drexal university has suspended a fraternity for five years. the same fraternity under investigation for sexual assaults. they were placed on interim suspension earlier this month while the university investigated the attacks. they did not say whether today's suspension was connected to that investigation. two people are recovering from minor injuries after a gas leak in gloucester county. they say proep lean gas leaked to the air from a rail car. crews were able to contain the leak. officials went door to door to make sure levels are safe. it's one of those like holy.

check out this video of a wisconsin woman springing the to action to stop a car thief. you can see her pumping gas when someone jumps into the driver's seat of her suv. that driver slammed on the brakes to try to shake her off. >> the police send mostly women go in the other direction and ask for help and don't hop on top of their car. >> the suspect was not alk to steal her car but did take her wallet, brand new iphone and other items. without a doubt philadelphia has proven it can put on a show. first the pope, then the dnc, then the nfl draft. those fail in comparison to events from more than 100 years

guwalk in philly. the money made tonight will benefit clients battling life threatening illnesses. a truck carrying pigs flipped over tonight in montgomery county. the driver was going around a turn on clemens road when the truck overturned. they're investigating whether the rainy weather played a role in that crash. so let's get the latest on those storms and look ahead to holiday weekend. >> oh, you know what? the storms are still continuing but they are beginning to diminish. we have not only the doppler radar sweeping the sky but our own storm ranger. this is our mobile radar on wheels that can show you what's going on and it may be coming to your neighborhood soon. here's a look at all the activity as it moves thuf north. so it's really weakening, especially back here towards wilmington and into delaware.

about an inch 1/2 of rain fell across most of the area and we only had a high of 68. we have our storm ranger in blue bell and we're focusing thuf west where the most intense rain is still falling. that's going to be all of you in parks burg and westchester, east whiteland, that's where we're seeing some of the heaviest rain taking place. if we look for light rainfall coming down. that would be in philadelphia, norris town and as we go to the north. so we're beginning to see things quiet down for the evening. this is nearly as fierce as earlier today as this whole storm system winds off to the north and east. but there is more behind that. we're going to get flat the holiday weekend. we're looking at 58 degrees northwest winds. just about 30 minutes ago this whole camera was covered with

rain coming down in sheets. over the next six hours, 61. so we're going to start to climb a little and we'll see 60 when you wake up at 5:00. we'll probably see high clouds. we have those winds still coming out of the north right now but look at how they turn to the west and we are dry. we could get a few spotty showers still coming in tomorrow in the afternoon. these will be very light showers and we'll clear out for tomorrow evening. saturday it looks absolutely stunning but the forecast model want to bring something through tonight. then we clear out much of sunday and we get an east wind. that's going to cool us down. then monday here's a chance of widely scattered showers. so here's what we're looking at. your 10 day on 10.

they went on a mission to haiti. they saw a country devastated by hurricanes. >> when you put it in the perspective of it's only two plane rides. >> going to haiti for me is very eye opening to see how much need there is and how they're lacking so many things materialistically, but emotional emotionally, rirlts one of the most joyous communities. there's a language barrier, so it was new to us. we got a chance to paint a couple houses. >> extremely eye opening to see how people are living in 2017 sfwlp it was an amazing experience. i know i'll be back there for sure. >> they brought some hope to haiti. very cool.
