you can see them right there on their stretchers. good evening. i'm jacqueline london. police now tell us the driver who hit the officers stayed on the scene and did not leave it. live to nbc 10 live on the scene of the crash in philadelphia. andrea what are you learning? >> reporter: show what you it looks like on the ground. take a look that blue carolla is the car that struck the police damage. you see the damage. a tow truck moved the police suv a few feet forward. if you look closely you see the air bags deployed in the police car. accident investigators arrived on the scene at this moment. it's unclear who was at fault. police confirmed the two officers were responding to reports of a shooting when they were hit by that carolla. sky force 10 was there as the officers were put on stretchers. one officer complained about having pain on his left side. both officers were taken to aria torresdale hospital and expected to be okay. the driver of the carolla is

completely dry. a view of margate and ventnor. here's margate, no dunes. ventnor, dunes. how i can tell where the picture is taken. a couple showers still on the radar salem county and south the vineland. a few more down from the northwest. as the sun goes down these showers fall apart. that's not the case with this system. this is pretty powerful. it's small. it's moving fast. so that's good news for us. it means it can't last that long, if it comes in, and visit us tomorrow. here we are, futurecast going through the night. we dry out, we clear out and start off the day tomorrow with some sunshine, but then here comes some of the showers from that chicago system. we'll time the rest of that out and a bigger system coming in for memorial day a little later. >> all right, glenn. at home, make sure you stay up to date with your

neighborhood forecast all memorial day weekend long. tap the nbc 10 app. nor breaking news. firefighters just arrived on this scene in northeast philadelphia wurning knee cottman avenue and melrose. you can see the flames there. the thick, black smoke rising from it. we'll keep you updated on injuries right now no word of that. developing now, homicide detectives investigating a suspicious death of an infant in southwest philadelphia. they say a 6-week-old boy was taken to the hospital with head injuries. the parents said he found the baby bleeding from its nose in their home. we'll bring you new information as we get it on the nbc 10 app and tonight at 11:00. could be months before we learn why a helicopter crashed killing the pilot. the 37-year-old was on a practice mission for the university of pennsylvania health system when his helicopter went down. and many of us at nbc 10 new

mi knew mike. our backup pilot for nbc sky force 10. mitch joins us live. >> i was with him in sky force 10 a couple weeks ago and today spoke with others who knew and flew with mike murphy. flying, a fraternity and mike murphy was a big part of it. >> this hit home. >> reporter: life in the cockpit is a connection between mike murphy and sky force 10 pilot phil norton. >> i can't comprehend what happened. >> reporter: neither can this photographer and friend dan kent. >> biggest fear. it's someone you know. >> reporter: mike murphy was 37 leaves behind a wife and a 2-year-old. he has another child on the way. >> just pray for murph's family and his wife and his kids, and i know they do have a big support group. >> reporter: mike had flown for years. been in the sky more than a decade covering news in sky

force 10. >> almost can't believe he's gone. >> reporter: and saving lives with penn star. he learned to fly near his home in new jersey. yesterday he was training to fly in bad weather. he was the only one killed. no one else was onboard. the investigation now turns to why mike murphy crashed and whether he crashed here to avoid hurting anyone else. >> the shock. disbelief. can't believe it happened. >> and having flown with mike i can tell you, he was meticulous. a guy that would go through his checklist no matter how many times he had flown the aircraft before and we still don't know why he crashed but the investigation is under way and we expect an update in coming weeks. >> a sense of humor and kind heart what i'll remember most, though, this is -- you know, in the helicopter, there's no cup holder. mike was a guy who always had his cup of coffee. and he used to always have, in

the couple million dollar helicopter, find, this is so funny. always have a roll of duct tape as his cup holder in the helicopter. >> to secure it? >> yep. >> the things that you remember. >> that's one of those things. >> right. great story. thank you for sharing. appreciate it. turning to this now. new information as 6:00. the company that owned the charter bus involved in a crash in gloucester county says passengers need to contact them. 32 people hurt when the bus was hit by a tractor trailer on the new jersey turnpike. victims were taken to area hospitals and left stranded and without luggage. the bus company tells nbc 10 that they will take the passengers back to new york or to atlanta but need to call for help. new at 6:00, a woman indicted for the murder of her boyfriend nearly two months after his death. prosecutors say 25-year-old breeon lindsay stabbed

christopher johnson in march. investigators believe lindsay tried to clean up the scene before police arrived. drexel university taking steps to knock out prejudice. students picked up markers and on the wall shared stories of how they experienced discrimination then took swings with a hammer to knock it down. a fraternity hosted the event. a new charter school is coming to kensington. the school reform commission approved a revised charter application for deep roots charter school. a school will cater to 540 students from kindergarten to eighth grade and open for the 2018-2019 school year. community leaders in philadelphia are sending 0 message to tobacco companies. today the naacp, faith ladiers and department of public health launch add campaign asking tobacco companies to stop marketing their products to young people saying flavored

we're used to. thanks to a huge $100,000 investment from local movie buffs, nbc 10 randy gyllenhaal has the story. >> reporter: for years now the old boyertown state theater has sat empty, built in 1912, the plush seats inside have had no one to sit down. >> they have not been used in a few years. they were -- a little dirty. >> reporter: but back in its heyday, the whole town would come by and catch a flick. >> yeah. saw "grease" here pap great, family fun thing to do. >> reporter: at first the films were silent, then black and white. >> movies were 12 cents and 25 cents. >> reporter: technology hit fast-forward. color and hd, then the digital revolution. movie studios no longer shipping titles on film. >> this was when films came on. >> reporter: old 35 millimeter projector well past its expiration, they needed a brand

weather like we saw today. it's 74 in philadelphia. clouds starting to break up, and the clouds are breaking up in many parts of the area, and that will be the case. we got a little quick shower in wilmington, delaware right now and those things do move through past. here's the story. we got that west wind. the land breeze at the shore. 73, and nowhere near 70 over the weekend. sorry about that. 71 at north cape may. 71 in stone harbor. 71 in ocean city. all of those places in the 60s tomorrow and sunday afternoon. quick moving showers. a little shower went through a portion of wilmington a little while ago. a couple of them about to go down towards cape may county, but this is the system we're watching for tomorrow. you see how small it is. very small. moving very fast. so even if it does get here, it's not going to last that long. during the day tomorrow. clearing out tonight. starting the day off nice

tomorrow, with at least some sunshine, and then here comes the showers. mostly, i'd say, early afternoon about the average. 12:00 to 4:00, and after that drying out. maybe after 6:00 at the shore. that's one system. then we're dry on sunday, but we got onshore wind. it's not that warm, and then this next one comes in from the west. but that may take until late sunday night here, and then into monday morning. especially. maybe even to the midday hours monday. and then it moves out. so with the southerly wind here, we could, potentially, get to 80 degrees on monday. so -- that's kind of a -- in and out, half and half day, but saturday -- we have the best weather right at beginning of the day towards the end of the day.
