time to move inside. rain is coming down. we're tracking the rain to help you plan the rest of your memorial day weekend. deadly fire. hear from neighbors who awoke to screams only to find out that two children and their grandmother could not make it out of their burning home. terrifying crash. two indy 500 drivers walk away from this crash after one car goes airborne and then explodes. >> right now rain is probably ruining your outdoor fun, and you might hear a rumble of thunder as well. first alert meteorologist erika martinez tracking are the rain to let you know how long it's going to last. >> plenty of reports for rain

for delaware and the jersey shore. now we're starting to see active weather move through. there's an area of low pressure sitting right off the chesapeake bay and we're starting to energize this from the southwest to northeast and there's plenty of clouds moving through the area and notice we're seeing more greens and in fact some yellows and favoring the jersey shore and parts of delaware county. burks county as well. it it looks like we're getting reports for parts of burks county and keep that in mind and i do think that will continue to develop through overnight. locally, however, seeing heavier rains especially for delaware. northern delaware and the jersey shore, south jersey also seeing more rain. we're not done yet. this is just starting to develop again. this area of low pressure is starting to energize this system. coming up in just a bit, we'll talk more about what to expect

as far as the rain for this evening and into tonight. of course, for the first half of your memorial day. denise, back to you. >> i come out to see, to help, but it was too late. >>the neighbor's woke up to screaming, bright orange flames and they are reeling after hearing two children and their grandmother did not make it out of this burning home. for the second weekend in a row a fire killed three family members taking a toll not only on neighbors but firefighters as well who are doing everything that they can to save lives. nbc 10 spoke with firefighters and the neighbors who heard and watched the deadly fire unfold, and tonight nbc 10's lauren m parayk is outside of that have charred home. lauren? >> reporter: you can still smell the smoke as the wind shifts in this neighborhood. this is where the fire happen. you can see the debris that was pulled from the home other and this building and the one next door to it now considered unsafe. that's making investigating this fire more difficult for

firefighters, fire officials, to go inside and try to figure out what happened, and just in the past hour someone brought by these flowers, three flowers after three lives lost. through the window you can see the flames. the intense fire burning inside the home at sixth street and montgomery avenue. right around the corner from louis undino. >> i heard the screaming and came out to see if i could help. it was too late. >> reporter: he came outside to see the flames. >> it was like an inferno. >> reporter: and his neighbor who escaped the fire and was looking for help. >> i heard somebody saying please help me, help me. my kids are in there. >> reporter: family members say 9-year-old prudence and 7-year-old dean died and their grandmother monique gilroy known as nikki was also killed. >> a wonderful person. >> reporter: family remembered them today. >> cheerful kids. used to play in the yard all the time. >> reporter: as neighbors try to take in the tragedy so close to home. >> oh, my goodness.

it's terrible, terrible. >> reporter: toys untouched from the fire in the backyard while in front and outside crews continue their work today trying to figure out what caused the deadly blaze. fire fightersers also coming to terms with the second straight weekend of deadly fires. this one fought by almost 100 firefighters. >> despite our best efforts, it's just too late. >> the fire commissioner says it could take some tame to determine a cause here if they are able to do so at all. he is also urging people to make sure you have working smoke detectors on every floor of your home, and if you can't afford to get them to let them know so that they can make sure that ones are provided for your home. it is unclear whether there were working smoke detectors in this home. live in north philadelphia, i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. >> thank you, lauren. tonight more details on a fire in overbrook yesterday where a teenager rescued his 1-year-old nephew. the american red cross is helping 16 people who are still

out of their homes as fire started in a toaster and as we told you last night one of the teens who lived there ran back inside the home to save his nephew. tonight the red cross says these tragedies serve as a reminder to check your smokesiors and always have a family escape plan. >> the rainy weather is really putting a damper on memorial day weekend at the shore. you're looking at an empty beach in cape may and up the coast and things are not looking too much better. nbc 10's drew smith is live in ventnor tonight. >> reporter: we were expecting a concert to be going on but they postponed it becaused of rain. a lot of people are still out on the beat. a lot of people determined to make this a good memorial day weekend and if you look over in the boardwalk there are a ton of people out and walking around. it is a little rainy right now but people say they are going to make the most of this.

>> the band managed to set up only to quickly start moving everything off the gazebo and back into the truck. >> we just made the call. we're going to postpone until tomorrow, monday. >> heavy clouds and some rain moving in had people putting on warmer clothes as they hustled off the beach and others didn't mind playing some soccer down on the sand and going for a walk up on the boards. >> beach, walking the boardwalk and boyaking the boardwalk and having some beers, burgers, you know, just enjoying the weekend. >> reporter: not a bad way to spend a sunday in late may. they know it only gets better from here. >> for memorial day we had a great day today, beautiful, sunny, warm. we were on the beach. >> reporter: so the plan was to do the first of the summer concerts here nor this gazebo right here and they, again, decide to postpone until tomorrow night. wildwood crest was also planning a concert event tonight and they have also postponed because of the rainy weather.

is dead in north jersey after he crashed into the water when his parachute malfunctioned. this happened during a fleet week event in jersey city. police say the member of the navy leap frogs had a problem with his parachute, and it did not open properly. investigators are now trying to figure out exactly what went wrong. well, police say a domestic dispute triggered a shooting rampage in mississippi that left eight people dead, including a sheriff's deputy. the shootings took place overnight at three homes. investigators say it all started when the gunman opened fire after an argument with his estranged wife with their children. the suspect is now in custody, he says that this is now how hi wanted it to end. >> suicide by cop was my intention. not after what i done, not in y'all eyes or nobody else's eyes. >> reporter: and that is the shooting suspect, 35-year-old

the right now temperatures 71 degrees and topped out at 77 degrees for today. current dew .56 so that's telling me we do have more moisture in the atmosphere building up, and so we do have the showers on way soon enough. a wider look. satellite and radar. notice we are seeing some rain moving in from the southwest to the northeast. we have an area of low pressure just to the south of us hanging over the chesapeake bay. we also do have a warm front that's lifting, and your cold front will eventually move in, and that will trigger some thunderstorms. right now we're track the showers neefg into delaware and burks county, montgomery county and chester county, along the jersey shore north and eastward. locally, however, i do want to time out the time that you can expect showers in your neighborhood. philadelphia at approximately 6:30 expect some showers moving across the area again from the southwest to the northeast. trenton 710:00 p.m. and toms river 7:25 p.m. so keep that in mind. keep the umbrellas hasn't because we do have those showers pretty much for entire night. let's go ahead and time this out

for you hour by hour starting this at 7:00 p.m. notice here we do have still a bit of an onshore influence here so any possibility of thunderstorms would i say this onshore influence will cut that off, but once the cold front sweeps on through i do think we will start to see some isolated thunderstorms later tonight through the overnight hours and into early tomorrow morning, so let's get this start. pause this at 11:00 p.m. and notice we're seeing some pockets ever energy, especially along the jersey shore so we'll be tracking this through the overnight hours especially if you follow us on social media. early tomorrow morning we do have more updates and bill will be here with the updates. notice we're seeing pockets of heavy downpours ant threats of isolated thunderstorms as the cold front starts to push on through. that really will be the weather-maker for tomorrow but the good news is it looks like we don't have much rain for the second half of the day. we do have a non-severe risk as far as the thunderstorms go. this is provided by the storm prediction center. what does that mean for us as far as the non-severe?

that pretty much it's not threatening as this system continues to work its way from the southwest to the northeast. here's the ten day on ten. conditions for today will be rainy through tonight into the overnight hours. overnight lows in the low 60s and for tomorrow we're seeing the threat of a.m. rain and notice i do have a.m. rain here with a.m. thunder. i'm keeping showers late tuesday into wednesday. it looks like thursday may be the best day of the workweek with a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures in the upper 70s and 80s by friday into saturday. clouds here and clouds here because i do think we'll see some rain overlapping from friday into saturday. here's danny with sports. >> erika, thank you. danny pom else. the phyllillies in need of a wio avoid their ninth straight series loss. look at this incredible wreck at the indy 500. >> when you get into that sideways, you are a passengers.

all right, guys. let's go ahead and take a will be at this hour-by hour forecast starting at 7:00 p.m. once again i do want to show you what you can expect for the rest of today for your memorial day weekend and, of course, the first half your monday. hour-by-hour forecast starting at 7:00 p.m. notice we are picking up on the showers moving through from the southwest towards the northeast. we do have that onshore influence. i'm not too concerned about thunderstorms right now, but as we do get this going, do i want to show you that we do have a threat for some thunderstorms, especially later tonight as that cold front starts to develop and move into our direction. that really will be the trigger mechanism. folks, we do have enough moisture in the atmosphere. it's pretty unstable right now because that have warm front. we're also getting reports of some fog already developing, denise, so that's really northern to keep in mind especially because so many people will be driving later tonight into early tomorrow morning, and that fog could be really dense. so we want to give everybody a
