of this attack on their cell phones. counselman david 0 out and about in his neighborhood tonight. you can see the injury to his side where a knife punctured his diagram. >> i said did you just stab me and he had and i saw the weapon i was bleeding heavily. my shirt -- >> reporter: he recounted how he carefully responded to an attack. no surprise to his friends who gathered for oh in center city tonight. >> he's so resilient, so mentally tough. >> reporter: the counselman wanted the event to go forward, even though he couldn't make it. >> they coordinated their schedule around this event and he didn't want to disappoint them. >> reporter: a west phillies street now bears the name of his cousin that was hurt by a mob of

teens half a century ago. >> it was a very impactful thing even as a young person. >> reporter: his family responded in forgiveness. right now the man remains a threat to others and needs be found. >> it is important for us to insure that we have a safe city. >> reporter: the counselman acknowledges he's lucky that knife didn't hit any vital organs. he feels good, hetalthy and he' ready to go back to work. nbc 10 news. fbi statistics show that knives are used in about 18% of all assaults. counselman owe's neighborhood, we found 100 assaults and five homicides. they called the city's violent crime numbers unacceptable and acknowledged sometimes it takes a high profile incident to get

people to focus on the issue. he'll get people to address problems like poverty that can lead to violent crime. new at 11:00. they release new photos of the man responsible for last month's deadly suicide bombing in manchester. they hope to generate more leads in connection to his whereabouts. a total of eight men have been arrested in connection with the deadly bombing. parents of a penn state student who died on campus send a scathing letter to the trustees. the new jersey student died after falling during a fraternity pledge. his parents wrote in part "our son died on your watch.
