"early today" starts right now. good morning. happy friday to youment i'm frances rivera. breaking overnight president trump's travel ban could be heading to the supreme court. before midnight east coast time the news broke that the white house is looking for permission to immediately enforce their executive powers on preventing travel from six muslim countries, tracie potts is in the capital and what's the latest on this case? >> reporter: the latest is we wait to see what the supreme court is going to do at this point frances, this is not unexpected. after the justice department lost in a federal appeals court last week, they said that they were going to take this and the president would take this all the way to the u.s. supreme court. what they are asking for is to allow the justice department to enforce this travel ban against six mostly muslim countries until the court gets a chance to

hear the the case. they are also asking to have it fast tracked which opens up the possibility that the court can hear the case before their term starts next fall. this has been a long time in the making, there's actually another appeal that's working its way through the courts, the hawaii ban that the ninth circuit court of appeals in california has to hear. reaction from the aclu, they say this is consistent, that they think the supreme court will be consistent with what other federal courts have said, banning the travel ban reversing this travel ban, the washington attorney general, one of the states that originally brought the case, says that he thinks the u.s. supreme court will agree. frances. >> tracie potts for us, thank you. massive global reaction to president trump's call for america to quit the paris climate agreement. major land marks showed in green showered in green there in new york, one world trade center shine across the night sky. look at boston, the mayor

stage saying? >> reporter: thanks, frances. the opinions from global leaders and international organizations have been resolutely clear in rejecting donald trump's decision yesterday to withdraw from the paris agreement on climate change. in a word disappointment was most often used but some went further, noting as my colleague kristin said that the u.s. was now in the company of only two other countries, nicaragua and syria, in rejecting the pact. some like mary robinson, a former u.n. envoy said that president trump's decision renders the u.s. as a rogue state, on the international stage. global leaders seemed most alarmed by president trump's offer to exit the paris agreement and then re-enter under renegotiated terms. france, italy and germany released a joint statement calling the 2015 accord irreversible. but engaging this global reaction all eyes on china a

major polluter that showed resistance in the past. yesterday the prime minister of china was in brussels recommitting china and the european union to the paris accord and committing new money to helping poor nations reach emissions restrictions. it's clear the chinese who have long been one of the president's favorite antagonists see climate change as a rare opportunity to assert global leadership where the u.s. asaided it. >> developing overnight at least 36 people were killed in the philippines after a gunman began shooting and setting fires in a casino. it happened at resorts world manila. police do not believe it is terror related. police released these images. he was found dead of an apparent suicide and has not been identified. janice joins us live from beijing with the latest. any indication ma the motive may have been? >> reporter: frances, police believe this was a robbery, they say the lone gunman walked into

the casino, stole gambling chips, shot at a television then with a bottle of fuel in a back pack put it on the tables and set them on fire. this of course caused panic among people who thought the hotel was coming under attack. many of the injuries reported last night had nothing to do with gunshot wounds, they were injured in a stampede to try to get out. several people jumped from second floor balconies. police insist this was not terrorism, that the man did not shoot anybody, and did not appear to want to kill anybody. but it was hours after authorities had declared the incident over that this terrible discovery of dozens of bodies was made, presumably guests and hotel employees who had locked themselves in room trying to take cover, thinking that the compound was being overrun by militants. this is happening against the backdrop of a fight between isis
