trump's closest conconfidants, corey lewandowski. but let's start with hallie jackson. good morning. >> reporter: the president himself is responding to james comey on twitter. despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication. and, wow, comey is a leesaker. the president picking out the parts he prefers from comey's testimony and saying that the rest isn't true. we will hear from the president later in the rose garden where he's set to hold a news conference and likely take a victory lap. this morning, team trump arguing james comey didn't deliver a knockout blow after his pull-no-punches testimony. >> those were lies, plain and simple. >> reporter: that pushback, coming against the president's claims that comey was fired because of low morale at the fbi. >> i know i was fired for something about the way i was

conducting the russia investigation, was putting pressure on him, in some way irritating him. and he decided to fire me because of that. >> reporter: the president's son, saying his father is ready to move on. >> now that this is all past, he can go back to doing what he promised he would do. >> reporter: the president not saying whether he believes comey told the truth. >> do you think he told the truth to the senate? >> reporter: but his lawyer did. zeroing in on comey's claims that he preferrreferred to let go. >> the president never in form or substance directed or suggested that mr. comey stop investigating anyone. the president also never told mr. comey, quote, i need loyalty. i expect loyalty. >> reporter: flynn had no comment, arriving in d.c. overnight. and the president had no comment online, either, thursday. turning not to his twitter followers, but his faith, at a speech in washington. >> the bible tells us, we know

not president trump. that was to brief him on a dossier. >> a false dossier, that he knew was false and perpetuating on something he said was true. jim comey asked for a private meeting. the path was set by jim to say i want a private meeting -- >> all of the counterterrorism folks came to brief the president. and comey stayed after to try to -- to avoid embarrassment for the president, saying you should know this is out there. just real quickly, because it seems like there is debate over what really happened, what was said in the oval office. the president has hinted he has tapes. comey says, release the tapes. i give you permission. you're free to do so. will the president release the tapes? are there tapes? >> i don't work for the white house. i don't work in the white house. i don't know if tapes were made, are made. if they are, i think jim comey's credibility is at about zero right now. that's from the democrats who questioned him as the fibi director not that long ago. the republicans who questioned

him yesterday. marco rubio, senator rubio said the only leak not coming out of the fbi was that president-elect trump and president trump is not under investigation. >> the tapes won't lie. would you say release the tapes if you have them? >> i think the conversation that actually didn't take place in the oval office. i think jim was referring to a discussion they had over dinner, where there were stewards. >> he tweeted and said -- >> he said let's hope there are tapes. >> that word hope, again. >> nothing wrong with hope. >> thank you. let's bring in nicolle wallace right now. what were the questions that lingered to you after james comey's testimony? >> if you needed anymore evidence that we live in two americas, corey just gave it to you. and trump's enthusiasts are going to stare at the trees that paint the picture of the forest they like to live in. the other side will stare at the

trees of the forest they want to live in. the truth we lerped, that donald trump had interactions with james comey as president-elect and president. no one can deny that. in none of them did he ask a single question about the voracity of russians meddles in a democracy. that to me, just as an american, is the most troubling. and the big structural blow for the president is he's always worried about his personal legal equities and the personal criminal legal liabilities of his buddy, mike flynn. >> it is interesting -- corey, we'll let you back in here. it is interesting to me because on the one hand, there were things that were problematic with james comey's testimony. i think, it's a fair criticism on the issue of leaking to "the new york times," rather than going through a proper channel like the congress. or what dianne feinstein said, why didn't you stand up there. but other parts are quite damaging to the president.

>> it's interesting. if you listened to jim comey's testimony yesterday. he knew that jeff sessions was going to recuse himself. he made that statement knowing on february 15th, he said i knew that attorney general jeff sessions was going to recuse himself. jeff sessions didn't recuse himself until march 2nd. >> we had good reason to believe he was going to recuse himself. he did this -- he dropped another morsel. i want to play it for you right now. >> our judgment, as i recall, is that he was very close to and inevident mfvitably going to re himself for a variety of reasons the we were aware of facts i can't discuss in an open setting that would make his continued engagement in a russia-related investigation problematic. >> he chooses his words carefully. he just dangled something there, corey. if you're the president of the united states, do you walk into jeff sessions and say, what are they talking about? what else is there? >> what we've seen from jim comey, his goal is to manipulate

the press. he's part of everything that's wrong in washington. march 1st, they published a story about attorney general jeff sessions. and his unreported meeting with kislyak, the russian ambassador. that came from the department of justice, clearly. what it said in that story, there was hammering at the department of justice. and there's no formal way to remove an attorney general from an investigation except public pressure. what we saw that was published, was jeff sessions recused himself. but testimony was, i knew he was going the recuse himself because he probably leaked the story to "the wall street journal." >> i will give you the last word on this. >> i worked for a president for seven years. i met one russian in all those years. everybody around trump and everyone around him, you know, was breaking bread with russians all the time. when it came time to testify to the meetings, they lied about the meetings, left them off the forms.

and what comey was referencing, we had reason to believe that sessions wasn't going to make it because he hadn't been truthful about an interaction with a russian. it's always russia. it's not mexicans or canadians. always russia. >> just for fun, corey, has the president leaked anything? have you seen him talk to a reporter on background? >> what i know is the president is the most open president in the history of our country. he gives -- >> yes or no? >> one man's openness is another man's leaker. >> they're telling us, really have to go. >> wrap it. corey, thank you. >> nicolle. and upheaval in britain over shocking election results. an election called for by theresa may that didn't need to happen. now, pressure is mounting on her to resign. keir simmons is in london for us this morning. >> reporter: matt, this is another election earthquake this morning. the british prime minister won the vote but narrowly. this morning, she is set to

friday morning. june 9th, 2017. that's mission control here at the "today" show. >> they're all awake. that's good news. >> exactly. let's get to headlines on this friday morning. president trump is reacting to fired fbi director james comey's testimony before the senate intelligence committee, tweeting this morning, despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication. and, wow, comey is a leaker. that's in reference to comey's admission that he was behind the leak of memos he wrote, detailing his meetings with the president. we'll have more on that live from washington in a bit. prosecutors in massachusetts have rested their case at the trial of a young woman charged in her boyfriend's suicide. they say michelle carter used text messages to encourage conrad roy to take his life three years ago. late thursday, the defense filed a motion so dismiss the case against their client. a judge will hear arguments on that later today.

details about their kags. reality winner has two cases. one, an air force veteran, a loving daughter and yoga instructor. the other, a person who had taken a keen interest in the middle east with suspicious motives. 25-year-old reality winner, denied bail and led away in shackles. this morning, prosecutors have new questions about whether she may have been planning to reveal more classified information. they say during a recorded phone conversation with her mother in jail, winner said, mom, those documents, i screwed up. documents, plural. now, federal agents are looking to see whether she may have stolen other classified information, including some on a missing flash drive she inserted into a top-secret computer. prosecutors have said winner admitted to leaking a top-secret document into an online news site, saying that russia targeted local election officials and a company that provided software for the election. her mother described her as a

throughitudethrough tuesday. the rip current threat moderate. download the app for more updates on the beaches. >> and you can find your full forecast 24/7 on the weather channel on cable. >> dylan, thank you so much. now, to a heartbreaking story out of texas, where a grieving family is speaking out, as they try to come to terms of the tragic loss of their little boy, an apparent condition known as dry drowning. frankie delgado passed away six days after his family returned from a weekend trip to a fishing and recreation area in galveston bay. >> he was my best friend. and i miss him so much. >> reporter: his parents say the 4-year-old was briefly knocked over by a wave while playing in shallow water. he got right back up and seemed normal. but days later, this went quickly downhill. >> the night before this happen, we were throwing the football with him. i was playing catch with him. i was running around. and then, saturday morning came

arnold. and -- >> our world just turned upside down. >> reporter: frankie woke up vomiting and in pain. >> he was like -- he went like that. looked at me with these painful, hurtful eyes. like, i've never seen him before like that. >> reporter: an ambulance rushed the boy to the hospital. but he didn't take it. the family says emergency room doctored said the cause of the death was dry drowning. >> they explained to us that it's something about him ingesting water into his lungs. >> reporter: when it does occur, secondary drowning usually happens after a child inhales water into the lungs, which become irritated and start to fill up with fluid. >> breathing problems, coughing. they may have episodes where their behavior changes, where they're more fatigued than usual. and these are signs they may not be getting enough oxygen to the brain. >> reporter: doctors say it is extremely rare but there have been cases. >> i believe he's in a better

place. i believe my son's an angel. >> reporter: frankie's grieving family says they hope sharing the story will help other parents avoid such tragedy. >> dry drowning, let's bring that out into the world and let everybody know this exists. >> that's what i'm trying to do, spread awareness. i don't want nobody to go through what we're going through. >> drowning is actually the leading cause of death for kids from ages of 1 to 4. but an overwhelming number of those cases do not involve so-called dry drowning. experts say parents should not expect the worst every time your child swallows some water. but keep a close on eye on them if they're complaining about other things. his shoulders were hurting. he had other issues. >> how would you everyone know? >> i know. your heartbreaks for that family. >> absolutely. >> a child that says i'm tired is not something you would rush alarm bells. and he leaped right up.

♪ all right. we're back. 7:43, with a "today" exclusive that will excite anybody who flies. >> this is very good news if you're frustrated by the slow internet connections you get when you're flying. there's new technology that will allow you to use your netflix account or video chat midnight. tom costello is live from a test plane flying at 25,000 feet to demonstrate this. tom, where are you? >> reporter: we're over upstate new york, right now, matt. we're coming to you via wi-fi in this honeywell test plane.

they're using satellite to get us the signal on wi-fi. some airlines may not like the idea of you using facetime or skype to have a conversation with your spouse on the ground and everybody onboard doing the same thing. but this is where it gets interesting. you'll be able to watch videos, netflix, download files. your internet experience six miles up is going to get a big upgrade. in-flight wi-fi has come a long way. what started with a handful of passengers has become a bottleneck at 35,000 feet. with everyone competing for limited bandwidth, e-mailing, texting, tweeting. >> i have a hard time getting service up there. if i do, it's limited, for sure. >> reporter: now, passengers are demanding better wi-fi to make a cramped flying experience a little more bearable. the big names are dramatically picking up the pace. when we tried jet wave, our
