verdict watch. the nation is waiting for word on a decision as the jury continues deliberating the fate of bill cosby in his sex assault trial. heat wave. day three of 90 plus temperatures. we could shatter records today. and in the hot seat, as attorney general jeff sessions gets set to testify on capitol hill today. rumors are swirling about who could be the next person on president trump's chopping block. right now, the second full day of deliberations are under way in the bill cosby sex assault trial. nbc 10 has you covered as we await a verdict in the case that has everyone watching. good morning. i'm vai sikahema. >> i'm tracy davidson. the jury returned to work at 9:00 this morning, reviewing evidence, asking questions about

prior testimony. nbc 10's matt delucia joins us. they heard more testimony from cosby's deposition this morning, right? >> reporter: that's right. the jury came in with another question centered around that deposition once again, the part where cosby describes his romantic feelings for accuser andrea constand and his account of the sexual experiences the two of them shared. you see there are some supporters of bill cosby outside the courthouse this morning. this time he entered without his wife. you might recall yesterday he entered the courthouse with his wife camille but not the case today. the jury got the case last night and deliberated for four hours before the judge sent them home. before that happened, the jury asked their first question. they wanted to get more context on cosby's decade-old testimony about pills, where he called the pills his friends. now that's two questions the

jury came back with centered around cosby's 2005 deposition. in closing arguments yesterday, we will talk about that, cosby's lawyers tried to convince the jury of seven men and five women that andrea constand's story is inconsistent and unreliable, the goal being to cast reasonable doubt. cosby did not take the stand in his own defense yesterday but district attorney kevin steele, on the other hand, hammered home the idea constand was a victim of cosby. the jury is hard-working so now we are into day two of the deliberations, the jury is weighing three criminal charges of aggravated indecent assault. cosby could spend the rest of his life behind bars if convicted. once again, the jury is in deliberations right now behind closed doors. we expect more information to develop as the day unfolds. i'll be back with any updates. matt delucia, nbc 10 news. >> count on nbc 10 to bring you the jury's decision the moment it happens. we will have updates on air and online. you can also get an instant

alert by downloading the nbc 10 app. meanwhile we may be in for record-breaking heat today. temperatures already soaring as we take a look at center city philadelphia. nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. >> we have hazy conditions, it's even warm at the beaches. this is cape may and they are already in the mid 80s at the beaches, 90 in atlantic city international. it's 90 in philly. it's officially a heat wave but of course, it's only 11 credit a.m. so the temperature's going up. you can see we are in the 80s in most of the area, even 81 degrees in' mt. pocono. we have temperatures that are going to be going up because of this west wind but as soon as that wind changes, the weather's going to change dramatically.

there it is. a total change by tomorrow morning. so that is the end of the heat, with that wind coming in off of the ocean. so we can guarantee you that this is not going to be another really hot day tomorrow. we have 83 for the predicted high, even 79 degrees for thursday, the three days of 90 plus in a row, the record for today in philadelphia is 95. we will either get there or perhaps break it by a degree or two. as we go through the night tonight, we find pretty warm night. look at these temperatures. you would think you start there and it's going to get into the 90s again but like you saw, with those winds coming off the ocean, it just can't warm up that much during the day. at the jersey shore, the sea breeze coming in later on today, the possibility of a shower or storm, first thing in the morning. we do have a chance of some

showers especially up in the lehigh valley late today and into tonight, as some of these storms from new york state start to drift down. we will let you know more about when we expect more significant rain in a few minutes. >> thank you, glenn. because of the heat students across our area will be going home early. the philadelphia school district will release students at noon today. in the city of camden, schools will close at 1:00. trenton public schools will close at 12:30 for elementary schools, 12:45 for middle school and 1:00 for high schools. hamilton township will dismiss between noon and 1:15. meanwhile, 11:05 right now and that heat is oppressive. let's go to pamela osborne who is standing by on boathouse row. >> reporter: it's downright oppressive. there's a slight wind but it certainly doesn't make things better. it kept a lot of people indoors.

it's altering the school day for a lot of students in our area and it's only going to get worse from here. you know the workout groups you see by the art museum steps? well, no signs of them this morning. we just saw a few people looking to sweat in the sun. >> from two miles, hot. >> reporter: by 9:30 temperatures were near 90 and feeling like every bit of it. >> it's not as crowded as it usually is. people are staying in because of the heat. i like running when it's hot. >> reporter: mom was out walking the baby, with cooler plans for the afternoon and evening. >> we got out early so we could stay in the rest of the day. >> reporter: heat advisories stretch across counties as we hit day three of 90 plus degree temps. it's what prompted the school district to shorten the school day. camden city schools and trenton schools also sending kids home early because of the heat.

but not everyone has the luxury of hiding out indoors. for those people, experts at the red cross recommend taking frequent breaks, drinking lots of water. for everyone else, avoid wearing dark colors and wear loose-fitting clothes if possible. they also suggest you stay indoors and check on your pets. not everyone is hating these hot temperatures. we actually spoke to a guy who says he loves working out in this type of weather. you will hear from him coming up at 11:30. i'm pamela osborne, nbc 10 news. >> stay cool out there. first alert weather team is keeping an eye on this heat wave and when it is expected to cool off. download the free nbc 10 app for customized forecasts for your specific neighborhood. now to breaking news out of atlantic county. a local doctor and the husband of a murdered radio host is now under arrest. authorities say the search is not related to the unsolved homicide case but they would not

elaborate. nbc 10 was first on the scene in egg harbor township. this exclusive individual shows dr. james kaufmann in custody outside his medical office. officers were serving a search warrant when they say he pulled a gun. hostage negotiators talked him into surrendering. he's now under psychiatric evaluation. in connection with the search warrant i can say that it was not related to the death of april kaufmann. it was an unrelated matter that led us here. >> prosecutors tried to obtain a dna sample from him by court order. his wife was shot to death in their home in 2012. that case has not been solved. meanwhile, in a few hours, attorney general jeff sessions will testify in front of the senate intelligence committee. >> the panel will question sessions under oath about russian interference in the u.s. election. nbc 10 national correspondent edward lawrence has more from washington. >> we are very proud of it. >> reporter: during president donald trump's first full cabinet meeting, nothing but praise for the boss.

>> you set the exact right message. >> reporter: attorney general jeff sessions will now turn his attention to his testimony in front of the senate intelligence committee. >> what contacts if any did he have with the russians before the election when he was a campaign surrogate for donald trump, and secondly, what role if any did he have in the firing of james comey? >> reporter: sessions will be asked why he failed to disclose at least one meeting with the russian ambassador on his security clearance paperwork. >> the president has been clear last week in the rose garden that he believes the sooner we can get this addressed and dealt with, that there's been no collusion. >> reporter: still, a friend of the president said mr. trump may take steps to shrink the probe into possible russian collusion. >> i think he's considering perhaps terminating the special counsel. i think he's weighing that option. >> reporter: democrats say terminating robert mueller would be a mistake. >> i don't think congress would sit still and allow the president to pick his own investigator. >> reporter: white house press secretary sean spicer tells nbc

past eighth street. that was the eastbound side. as we head towards 95, you will pass that point there. there is a crash on lower moreland, welsh road around huntington pike. t the schuykill expressway is back to normal, 19 minutes on the eastbound side from blue route to the vine. speeds into the 30s or westbound side, speeds into the 40s. into new jersey, there's a jackknifed tractor trailer. if you are trying to get to the commodore barry bridge, this might stick you a little bit. logan township, route 322 on the eastbound side, that would be coming from the other direction. if you are headed from 95 over the commodore barry bridge you might run into this around route 130. a jackknifed tractor trailer causing delays. back to you. back in north korea, former nba star dennis rodman makes another trip to the country at a time when tensions are high between the u.s. and north korea. we have just learned north korea released an american student being held there. and verdict watch continues.

the u.s. student being held by north korea is on his way home. he's been a captive there for the last 18 months. his parents told the "washington post" he's being medically evacuated because he's in a coma. he was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor after allegedly taking down a sign of the late dictator, kim jong il. there are still three more americans being held by north korea. the news came hours after former nba player dennis rodman landed in north korea today. he says he's just trying to open a door with a trip he thinks president donald trump would support. rodman has a friendly relationship with north korea's leader kim jong-un. when asked about u.s. citizens detained in north korea, rodman told reporters it wasn't the purpose of his visit. south korea's president will visit the white house this month. the presidents plan to discuss what to do about north korea's growing nuclear threat. they are also planning to discuss ways to promote economic cooperation between the u.s. and south korea.

today, president trump will head to the midwest to promote job apprenticeships. the president and his daughter and adviser ivanka will visit a technical college in suburban milwaukee. later president trump will speak at a political fund-raiser for scott walker, who is up for re-election next year. president trump is bashing the latest court ruling against his travel ban, tweeting this morning well, as predicted, the ninth circuit did it again. ruled against the travel ban at such a dangerous time in the history of our country. s.c. the president has vowed to take his fight to keep his travel ban to s.c. or supreme court. the federal appeals court yesterday refused to reinstate trump's executive order. happening right now, deputy attorney general rod rosenstein says he's seen no basis to fire special counsel investigating contacts between the t russia. there has been discussionha con firing special cel

rosenstein is testifying in front of the senate regarding the justice me president spoke to workers at the department of health and t. he talked about repealing obamacare and putting an end to what he calls its death spiral. pence focused on trying to get the president's plan passed by congress. he said it's time for americans to have more health care choices. dover air force base is caring for the bodies of three soldiers killed in afghanistan over the weekend. the vice president mike pence and his wife were there for the dignified transfer last night. the soldiers were based at fort campbell, kentucky. they are from maryland, north carolina and california. oh, no! oh, no! >> we're good. we're good. >> a gut-wrenching moment for several people in a car. the massive tornado touches down right in front of them. this was yesterday in wyoming. amazingly, no one was hurt.

i hope they didn't intend to do that. you don't ever drive into a tornado, even the most experienced storm chasers don't do that. 90 degrees in philadelphia already with a lot of hazy sunshine. close to 90 elsewhere and we are seeing a lot of sun across the area. it's generally a west wind and that's a land breeze at the shore. 63 degrees ocean temperature and there's the wind direction. so it's 91 in ventnor right now, 90 at somers point, 88 in ocean city, 86 at cape may point. that's the hottest we have seen so far this season. 92 in mays landing inland. now, bit of a sea breeze this afternoon and these temperatures will be going down but it's plenty hot out there.

there's that west wind responsible for the jersey shore being so hot, but boy, is it going to switch. tomorrow, morning it switches. in the afternoon it is straight out of the east. thursday, it's straight out of the east. friday, it's pretty close to straight east. so we are going to be seeing this cooler weather for awhile. here we are saturday, now it's a southeast wind so that's going to raise the humidity somewhat, but it still won't allow the temperature to be all that high. we have code orange again today, unhealthy for sensitive groups with the ozone, children, elderly, people are respiratory illnesses, limit outdoor activity between now and 5:00 this afternoon. the radar and satellite not showing much of anything. there are a couple of tiny showers that look like they're trying to develop in northern

pennsylvania and that's what we'll be tracking this afternoon to see if that does develop into thunderstorms. if it would develop, it would likely hit during the nighttime hours. here's the hour by hour, you can see some of these showers developing. nothing too significant, as you can see there. certainly not expecting severe weather. the clouds are in by morning, there's a chance of a couple of showers, then the drier, cooler air comes in. look at that, 5:30 in the afternoon tomorrow, only 77 degrees. if you think that's cool, thursday is even cooler. it's in the 60s at the beginning of the day. so it is definitely a much, much different picture starting tomorrow. there we go. 97 today, probable record. to 83 to 79 over the next three days, dropping to 81 in the

>> rte the context of that question ist n listenin shortly. we do know theres morning about co the part where he describes romantic feelings toward accuser andrea constand. you see bill cosby entering the courthouse this morning. de not have his wife camille or any celebrity friends by his side this time. part of the deposition that was read this morning, part of it reads i go into an area on a woman that is somewhere between permission and rejection. that's a quote from cosby in that deposition. the jury is seven men and five women. the defense is hoping the jury has some reasonable doubt. that would let cosby go free. cosby did not take the stand in his own defense yesterday. cosby's own words, though, that deposition has come up more than

forecast. the beach scene sure looked good. >> yeah, you mentioned how close to the water those people were there, because it is hot at the beaches, too. you have to get right by the water's edge to get that relief today. you can see lot of sunshine out there, a few fair weather clouds, and in wilmington, the sprinklers. not going to get any natural rain for at least a couple of days for the most part. 90 degrees in philadelphia. atlantic city international, 91 northeast philly, 89 in reading. lot of these places are going to get pretty close to their records for this time of the year. nothing all-time but for this particular date. we have west wind here, that means a land breeze not only in new jersey but in delaware. that wind is going to shift dramatically and even by

tomorrow morning, it's starting to come in off the ocean and that's going to shut off any of the hot air, push it right back to west virginia and ohio and it's going to stay as an onshore wind for quite awhile. the afternoon highs the last couple of days, 94 degrees, going for 97 today which would break the record. 83 tomorrow, a tremendous drop, then only 79 degrees on thursday. there could be isolated showers or a thunderstorm into the early evening hours, 7:00 to 9:00, in between these particular times, and it's a fairly warm night. the cool air doesn't really arrive until during the day tomorrow. you see that possible thunderstorm tomorrow morning as the colder air just starts to come in. we will let you know when there's more likely to be some rain and if the heat's going to come back by the weekend in a few minutes. >> glenn, thanks. now, the heat is closing schools early in our area.

over at the art museum steps, similar story. just a few people hitting the pavement on day three of the heat wave. angie charles was working out early so she could be indoors with her kids later. they go to philadelphia schools and today, the district is releasing them at noon because of the heat. camden city schools and trenton, also shortening the school day for students. >> been a great walk. not as crowded as usual because people are stig aying in becausf the heat. i don't think it's terrible. >> reporter: experts say the first heat of the season is harder on people than it is at the very end since typically it takes our bodies a full week to get acclimated. people working outdoors and athletes are at the highest risk for heat disorders. the red cross recommends taking lots of breaks, avoiding strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day and drinking lots of water, even if you don't feel thirsty. what else do the experts say?

obtain a dna sample from kaufmann by court order. his wife april was shot to death in her home in linwood in 2012. the case has not been solved. ted greenberg is work ing on ths story and will have an update on "nbc 10 news at 4:00." the final hours of a penn state pledge who died following a party. we want to warn you, court sketches are considered graphic, so much so the victim's parents left the courtroom before it was played. footage from the frat house was shown during the court hearing yesterday. it appears to show timothy piazza doubled over on the ground and also shows him lying unconscious on a couch with two people looking on. the state college police detective testified piazza looked dead. piazza died in february after falling several times during the night of heavy drinking. no one called for help until 12 hours after those calls -- after those falls. fraternity members are facing charges. this is them arriving for court yesterday. eight of them including the local fraternity president are charged with involuntary

manslaughter. yesterday's preliminary hearing will decide if there's enough evidence to send the case to trial. police are investigating a shooting that happened during an nba finals viewing party. the gunfire erupted around midnight in norristown. one man was shot. we are working to find out his condition this morning. a neighbor did tell us that people were outside watching the championship game on a big screen tv when the shooting started. new details on the search for a missing swimmer in atlantic county. around midnight, the brigantine fire department confirmed they pulled the body from the thelma avenue pit in hamilton township. crews responded following reports of a swimmer who went under water around 8:00 last night. runner-up in the primary race for atlantic city mayor wants a recount. the tally shows he lost by about 400 votes. the city clerk could certify the results by tomorrow. as of now, gilliam will face the republican incumbent and independent candidate in

november. happening today, the delaware senate will vote on raising the state's minimum wage $2 from $8.25 an hour to $10.25 over the next four years. supporters say the proposed increase will hello wap low wag earners. opponents believe it will hurt businesses and make goods more expensive. new jersey has the highest minimum wage at $8.44 in our area. pennsylvania is the lowest at $7.25. a driver in michigan took matters into his own hands when police couldn't stop a fleeing suspect. watch it happen from the police dash cam video. the driver of the van turns into the suspect's car to stop him. police had tried to pull the car over because the driver had several warrants against him. during the arrest they found a loaded hand gun and heroin. the driver of the van wasn't hurt. the golden state warriors are once again nba champs. >> the three, bang! >> the warriors beat the

cleveland cavs last night to capture their second championship in three years. golden state had a near perfect post-season, only losing one game during their playoff run. meanwhile, fans in oakland flooded the streets after the warriors won. there were even some fireworks to celebrate the champs. the odds makers in vegas are already saying golden state is the favorite to win next year's title. tonight, drexel university's class of 2017 will have its commencement. you are looking at video from last year's ceremony. about 3,000 graduates will receive diplomas tonight at citizens bank park. who says you can't go home? this hometown singer made a big splash on "the voice" and is back in our area. details on where you can see her perform free coming up. another day of real hot weather but big changes are on the way. i will let you know when we will

buffett and the parrots takeoff. we have the fabulous grease band that comes out. each one of them is such a good time. we pack the place in. we have an ampitheater and have hundreds and hundreds of people that come, just enjoy a beautiful night. bring their families, their moms, dads, grand moms and have a great time. >> different kinds of music and there's something for everybody. obviously, "the voice" pushed you to super stardom. what has your life been like since the show? >> it's been crazy. i have been doing a lot of touring and stuff with nascar and festivals and fairs. i have been to nashville and i'm getting ready to release a new single and i have a music video coming out. it's super exciting. it's just been such a great journey for me and my fans and family and everybody has been so great. >> we know of course when it happens, you come back here and tell us all about it and show us the video and the single.

they say no place like home. what's it like to come back and perform in front of the hometown? >> i love it, because as far as rose street park, that's one of the first places i started singing as a kid. that's the first time i performed there was when i was 12. i just love coming back and seeing everybody from my hometown and just thanking them for all the support they have shown me. >> how do you feel about it? they really push hard. >> they do. >> there was a campaign, something dave knows about. >> a little bit. >> it must feel good. >> it does. it's very exciting. i just appreciate all the support that all of you guys have shown me. it's very humbling. >> you are the best. >> thank you. >> the recap, the delaware county summer festival begins tomorrow night and runs for nine weeks at rose tree park in media. there are shows five nights a week, wednesday through sunday evening. nearly all of them begin at 7:30. audra mclaughlin performs on

that west wind is a land breeze for delaware, land breeze for the jersey shore. tomorrow, everybody gets a wind off the ocean. there it is. on thursday, you got a wind off the ocean and on friday, you got a wind off the ocean. it can't get to 90 degrees with winds off a 62 degree ocean. here we are on saturday, it turns into the southeast. that will help increase the humidity and increase the chance for any kind of showers, but not push the temperatures into the mid 90s again. we are code arrange wiorange wi unhealthy for sensitive individuals. limit outdoor activity until about 5:00, 6:00. on satellite and radar you see showers in new york but this little line here coming down, that may be the beginning of the

line of showers or maybe even thunderstorms that develop with heating during the afternoon. we will track that as we take a look later on today. as we go through the day, we are generally dry. the sea breeze kicks in at atlantic city, knocking the temperature down, and this evening, we could see some isolated thunderstorms across parts of the area and tomorrow morning as well, down toward the shore. but look at these numbers tomorrow. it's barely getting out of the 70s in many parts of the area. so it is definitely going to be much, much cooler. look at what happens here. we go from 97 all the way down to 77 by friday but the chance of showers goes up. we've got a chance of thunderstorms in delaware by friday. again, nothing close to the 90s. allentown, you are dropping into the low 70s.

now to an update on our top story. we are waiting for a verdict in the bill cosby sex assault trial. in the past 30 minutes, the jury came back with a third request. they have asked twice now to review testimony. first they made a request last night. they wanted to get more context on cosby's decade-old testimony about pills. they wanted to review the testimony. then this morning, they wanted to review more testimony from the 2005 deposition. in particular, where cosby describes his romantic feelings for accuser andrea constand. the jury is weighing three criminal charges of aggravated indecent assault. the last question they have come back with in just the last half hour for the judge, please define without her knowledge. the judge says that's the definition you have to get back to work so they were sent back in around 11:37. just a few minutes ago. cosby's spokesperson said the median ad comedian is confident he will be acquitted. stay with nbc 10 for full coverage of the trial. we will let you know as soon as

a verdict is reached on air and on our nbc 10 app. the weather, glenn? >> yeah, the temperature is easily going into the mid 90s today and even not a whole lot of relief at the beaches because we have a west wind here. so that hot weather goes all the way toward the ocean. there's a live picture from ocean city. you can see the umbrellas, very close to the water. that's what happens when you have this land breeze. you got to get in some cases put your chairs in the water to feel relief. that's a lot of people for a monday or tuesday. 97 degrees for a potential record high today, then much, much cooler starting tomorrow. you can see the rest of the week, below the average of 82 degrees. then the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases as we go into the weekend. so this weekend coming up is not going to be anything like this past weekend. >> thanks for watching "nbc 10 news at 11:00." i'm tracy davidson. >> i'm vai sikahema.
