bill cosby's fate can't reach a consensus after day three of deliberations. garbage truck smash, a collision sends the truck barrelling into a barbershop and it's all caught on camera. [ gunshots ]. >> bloodshed on the baseball field. a gunman attacks republican congressman as they practice for a charity baseball game. i'm jacqueline london. four people were shot including a congressman. steve scalise. he will need more surgery now that doctors have stopped the bleeding. he has fractured bones and injured internal organs. president trump went to visit him in the hospital this evening. he tweeted an hour ago, representative steve scalise one of the truly great people is in very tough shape but he is a

real fighter, pray for steve. this attack happened about 15 minutes from capitol hill. the lawmakers were practicing for a baseball game that is still set to happen tomorrow. the shooter who had a rifle has been identified as james t. hodgkinson from illinois. he was shot and killed by police after what witnesses describe as a fire fight between him and officers. the fbi says there are no other suspects tonight. we are bringing you team coverage of the shooting tonight. a two-minute mistake may have saved a local lawmaker's life. but we begin with drew smith with the latest from the fbi. >> reporter: even though the accused gunman is dead the fbi put out this flier tonight asking people who may have information about him or his recent activity to call it in. witnesses began recording the dozens of gunshots. >> get down!

>> we need medics. >> reporter: republican lawmakers sent running for cover. >> we were all sitting ducks. >> reporter: the majority whip, steve scalise, hit in the hip, brought to an operating room where he is in critical condition tonight and will require more surgeries. >> we're helpless. we have bats versus rifles. >> reporter: five others hurt including a lobbyist and congressman and staffer. plus two capitol police officers called heroes for engaging the gunman. >> they were returning fire. >> reporter: a pair of congressman say the suspect first spoke to them before the gunfight asking if the practice was for republicans or democrats. >> it was a little odd but i didn't see any indication of violence. >> reporter: the illinois man gave a tv interview in 2011. >> the 99% will getting pushed around. >> reporter: he wrote on facebook, trump destroyed our

democracy it's time to destroy trump and company. the fbi says he drove to virginia and without a job began living out of a white cargo van. people gathering in the streets of the neighborhood praying for the victims. >> as for what's next in the investigation they will try to figure out the motive for the attack, where that assault rifle came from, why hodgkinson came to the d.c. area in the first place and if anyone else knew of his plans. and local congressman costello says a missed ride may have saved his life. he was supposed to be at the baseball practice but was two minutes late for his ride. >> some minutes i'm able to process it and deal with it other minutes, i'm not. >> congressman ryan costello coming to terms with what happened. he missed his ride to practice

engagement on capitol hill. a pair of local congressman on the opposite side of the aisle will be going to the game together. they are united in love of their country. and nbc 10's lauren make will be in the capital for the game tomorrow. beginning at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon. new tonight, the special council investigating russia's activities during the election is investigating president trump for possible obstruction of justice. special counsel robert mueller is investigating. the report comes the same way a friend of mr. trump suggested the president could be considering whether or not to fire mueller. the bill cosby jury cannot reach a decision after day three of deliberations. this is cosby leaving the

courthouse late tonight after jurors could not reach a verdict. jim rosenfield is live at the courthouse tonight. this jury has had a lot of questions but no indication they are getting close to a decision. >> not at this point. the jurors have spent more than 26 hours deliberating this kay. they left the courthouse around 9:00 tonight after spending 12 hours trying to come to a decision today. they asked two questions today for a total of six in all since they received the case on monday afternoon. they are deciding on three counts against cosby relating to the allegations he drugged and sexually assaulted andrea constand in his elkins park home in 2004. let's bring in brandon hudson who is with me live in norristown tonight. cosby was pretty quiet tonight despite all this waiting. >> he was very quiet as he walked out. the jury went home a half hour earlier than the past two nights

but they focused on the testimony of andrea constand and a chelting ham police detective. another night without a verdict as fans chanted cosby's signature phrase, cosby didn't respond to them or any questions. >> any more confident? >> reporter: cosby's spokesman says that the comedian remains up beat. >> he is taking it one stride at a time and staying focused and is in good spirits. fwlrt the jury asked two questions, one focused on the testimony of the police who says that cosby gave her allergy medicine to relax. the jury listened to constand's testimony again. constand was in the courtroom with her mother but they showed no emotion. >> i think these are intelligent jurors and they want to be

overnight. police are work to see if they were caught on video. there is no description of suspects or cars involved so far. tonight from new jersey, education leaders have agreed on a school funding proposal. the compromise will provide $100 million in new aid for underfunded school districts and $25 million to expand preschool education. some of the state's neediest school districts will see $46 million in reallocated funds. the pennsylvania senate approved legislation that would prohibit cities, towns and counties from banning or taxing plastic bags. the governor has not decided whether he will sign that bill into law. a celebration of america's newest citizens. 22 people participated in the natchization ceremony in media.

welcome back, i'm jim rosenfield in norristown where another day of deliberations ended without a verdict in the bill cosby sexual assault trial. today the jury had two questions. first asking to have andrea constand's testimony read back to them and later jurors wanted to hear the testimony of the first police officer who interviewed bill cosby. we asked a retired superior court judge when the attorneys should worry about the possibility of a hung jury. >> when they stop asking questions and stop coming back for clarification and you go for a period of time from this point on. because like you said we've been 24 hours in. if that starts happening you start getting concerned that possibly this jury could be deadlocked.

a garbage truck crashed and ran into a for per shop. a traffic light that quickly turns from green to red may be to blame. new jersey governor chris christie has the worst approval rating of any governor in a decade. 81% of voters disapprove of his job performance and 15% approve. a south jersey police department is showing off a new al-terrain vehicle but not everyone is happy about it. winslow township police bought it for 15 grand thanks to grant funding. but since they posted it on facebook, hundreds have bashed the department. the lieutenant says it is another tool to help keep people safe. >> we have had several drownings in the past several years, people swimming in the quarry, drinking, you know, bonfires at night.

mt. pocono cool and comfy at 56 degrees. around the area we're watching the doppler radar. not a lot going on. it's pretty quiet here. but we have significant storm systems coming out of the midwest. they have produced severe weather. they are going to continue to move in our direction. the force driving them will arrive here in time for your friday, saturday, sunday, and monday. i think the best chance for heavy, steady rain is sunday night and monday but we could see thunderstorms prior to that. by 4:00 in the morning, a sprinkle in the lehigh valley and southern poconos. look at the sunshine tomorrow. a beautiful day tomorrow. very comfortable. hovering close to 80 degrees. then tomorrow night, it looks like rain that's moving in. but a lot of that falls apart. i think it's friday into the afternoon before we see any shower activity and that will be widely scattered. saturday it's in the afternoon that we see the shower activity.

again i think later on sunday and monday is the best chance to eheavier rain. tomorrow, elwin, 80. and plenty of sunshine out there. it will be 79 in robbinsville. egg harbor at 74. and let's check out your ten day on 10. not too shabby. we get hot for the weekend. but prior to that we'll enjoy seasonal temperatures. 81 tomorrow. 79 on friday with an afternoon shower. 86 on saturday with a thunderstorm and shower. on father's day showers and storms again and 90 degrees. 86 on monday with heavier rain and then we cool down as we head toward the first official day of summer, which is wednesday. you mentioned father's day.
