let's begin with kris krystal. >> now we that heaping. is the strongers airs of storms are starting to pass through. now with boeing into -- you can see the lightning associated, especially as we drop south. so take a closer look inward and we see good, steady rainier allentown, but the heaviest part of rain is happens into bucks county. you may see the tree icons, that's an indication of wind damage that's starting to occur. so you can imagine this will continue as we go into bucks and montgomery county. we go south, look at this heavy rain, deep reds, yellows,

oranges, lining up right against chester county, and a lightning bolt, you can see that's where areas of lightning are coming down as well. here is the timing, just one computer model i think is doing a fairly good job. it still has everything overt bucks county, but it's starting to move in. by 5:00, imagine this heaviest area will be bowing out from philadelphia into wombing town, newcastle county and getting ready to move into south jersey. by 7:00 starting to near the shore, but notice still strength as we it ininto philadelphia. so this is going to last into our early nighttime hours, even overnight, this is at 10:00 p.m., we have that first alert in effect due to the continued rain causing flooding issues, so here's our threat scale. the high end, flash flooding,

who has been seth williams' girlfriend. it also includes former district attorney linda abraham, former police chief charles ramsey and a former candidate rick negrin, making it more high profile, which is more of a challenge. they started with 137 people. they've been trying to whittle it down today, and use the this large ceremonial courtroom big enough to accommodate all those people, all while trying to pick a jury for the seth williams case. philadelphia's top prosecutor walking into federal court today with a smile, as the trial against him gets under way. williams has been philadelphia's district attorney since 2010, keeping the job after his indictment on federal bribery and extortion charges. inside federal court today, the challenge of findings juror to decide the fate of the sitting d.a. >> if it's high profile in jury

selection, what matters is you don't want people who have prejournaled the case. >> reporter: while a lot of potential jurors said they know about the case, that's not enough to keep them off the jury, as long as they agree to judge only what's presented in court. because williams is being charged in federal court, the pool of potential jurors stretches through other counties. >> that's very big news in philadelphia, but because this is in federal court, they're selecting jurors from many counties outside the philadelphia county. >> reporter: in trying this case, the government will try to prove bribery, soming that linda hoffa said the supreme court recently made more difficult. >> there has to be a quid pro quo proven by the government. >> reporter: a whole new era for that charge, and another challenge to choosing a jury in this case has absolutely nothing to do with seth

williams. it has to do with the timing. this is a long trial, three to four weeks, that jurors would need to commit to. it comes at the peak of summer vacation time. live in old city, i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. we have more on what's happened this morning. erin? >> police have identified him as a father of four who lived in wales. he appears to have started people leaving prayers at ha mosque, ramming them by a van at high speed. the pair medic treated the injure. the attacker tried to escape, but was caught by the crowd. one man died at the scene. nine people were hurt. theresa may attended an interfate meek not far from the attack.

speaking outside her home, she said extra police would be deployed to reassure communities. a remirror they take many forms, and the determination to tackle them misthe same. today's attack hit the community railroad -- westminster. and also in london, the death toll is rising from that massive fire last week. 79 people are now believed to have died in the fire. and in paris, a man died as

he plowed a vehicle into a police car. they say it had explosives inside. it happened near the police also found weapons in his car, which is the same place where a french police officer was shot and killed back in april. nbc 10 has brand-new video of the standoff between police, fbi and the murder victim's husband when officers showed up to search his office. >> drop the gun. drop the gun. >> police arrested him following this armed standoff. investigators played this video in court today. ted greenberg has more on the case, and why the husband is not getting out of jail. >> reporter: a police body

camera catch tug the chaos that brought out when authorities showed up with -- >> he has a weapon. >> dr. james kauffman's last week, he's accused of pulling the gun. kaufman's lawyer saying the doctor was referring to the 2012 unsolved murder of his wife, radio host and veterans advocate april kauffman. >> it's been a relentless investigation, and this is on him, nobody else. >> reporter: the doctor maintained his nchbt and has never been charged. he's heard in the video threatening to commit suicide. >> reporter: kauffman surrendered, arrested following a 45-minute standoff. >> someone who pulls out a weapon when they are working suggests to me they're a little unstable. >> reporter: prosecutors urging a judge to keep kaufman in jail

until trial on weapons and obstructions charges. the judge agreeing, noting that kaufman's alleged actions, financial mean and high risk of fleeing, his lawyer denying that, arguing the doctor should be released. >> he wasn't threatening any police officers or anyone else. >> reporter: defense attorney ed jacobs also revice a search want refers to health care fraud and a homicide. >> obviously it did not involve the homicide, but in a way it did. it's like saying from the former tv show, it's all connected. >> kauffman's attorney vowing to appeal the judge's decision. hoping for a hearing on that as soon as possible. i'm ted greenberg, nbc 10 news. and we're following breaking news from wall street. the dow jones industrial average closed at a record high. a live look at the big board, you can see the closing number, up more than 140 points.

this is because of a big today from tech stocks. dow jones actually opened at a higher number than ever. back home, police are investigating a murder in northeast philadelphia just an 11:00 this morning a man in his late 20s was found debt. a gas main break shut down traffic for a period of time, and it forced residents to evacuate. chopper 10 was over the sea. a contractor hit a gas line, and now everything is back to normal. new details into the investigation between a collision and a container ship off the coast of japan. investigators say it appears the u.s. ship was supposed to yield to the container ship. the u.s. navy said it recovered and identified the seven missing crew members on the "uss fi fitzgerald." one of the sailors was less than

a month coming home after serving three years in japan. >> i just wish i could hold him again, but we have to accept it. >> the collision tore a hole in the destroyer where many of the sailors were sleeping. president donald trump and the first lady welcomed the president of panama to the white house today. they discussed organized crime, immigration and other issues. trump called the relationship very strong. new details about the death of actress carrie fisher. an autopsy report shows she had cocaine and traces of heroin in her system when she died in late december. also methadone, several painkillers and ecstasy. they listed sleep apnea as the primary cause of her death. members of the philadelphia teachers union are voting to ratify a new contract. 9 doors you now open where the teachers will cast their

calm before the storm to hit. >> we had some storms early, and we've been hearing it pound on our room here. >> guyses those are pop-up storms. this is a cold front that's moving through. you push a cold front in, a different type of air mass and you have the recipe for very bad conditions. first let's look at the storms popping up. if you were seeing these, and then down into areas like gloucester county, this is just out of the storm. that yellow-orange blip, that is just the start of what's going to be a nasty line that is heading our way. let's look over to this line, now passing through parksburg into east nottingham, and then down south to newcasting county almost. when you see the deep reds, yellow, oranges that's where you

have very heavy rain falling. there are reports of rain to the west of us between 2 and 5 inch that is have fallen already. the warning was just put out, and then this will continue to progress. just past 4:30, warmeding ton ahead of the 5:00 hour, to you can'ter darby, this line should be making it through. every that's in pink, there's a severe thunderstorm watch.

hail bigger that is three quarters of an inch. this is chester county into montgomery, parts of newcastle as well. we are looking at a severe thunderstorm warning through at least 4:345. these are areas where the severe thunderstorms are hitting right now. another area of severe thunderstorms that are brewing, and heading our direction. this is not going to end anytime soon. really it's just starting. here's a look at the current wind gusts. and dover at 38 miles per hour. notice that allentown and coatesville, they look like they're going different directions than maybe the rest of the flow. that's because the cold front is starting to pass there. you can see exactly where the front is moving through. once the front moving through, the rain will be steady, it will

start to disappear entirely, and we won't have that threat. until it passes, we're still under that concern right now it's just starting to cut through our suburbs, moving out of the at least the heaviest line. we go to 5:00, and like i mentioned, seeing that 1 to 2 inch per hour rate which can dump down. we continue from 5:00 to 7:00. the heaviest rain is cutting through delaware, right up against the shore. typically we might say you're protected at the shore by the cooler air, but clearly that's not going to stop the strength of these storms. then right around 10:00 p.m., it's more of a spotty rain. let's talk rain totals here. so we're looking over our future

model to tomorrow morning. most of us around an inch in total, but cannot rule out an isolated spot dropping, say, 2 or 3 inches. that's something we'll have to watch. here's the good news. tomorrow we're 86 degrees and far less humid. the cold front will break this. we'll stay at 86 on your wednesday, 87 on your thursday, but humidity will start to increase. back to 90 degrees. krystal, thaso thanks so much. we want to show you a time lapsed video. you see the sun starting out the clouds moving by quickly, but the skies start to darken. this is something we'll watch in as we move into the evening hours, the potential for severe storms. if you have the app, you can sign up for weather alerts sent directly to your smartphone. these can be very specific to

tracking these severe storms moving through our area. as you see right here, this is a tree down, several large branches on north roberts road courtesy of our photographer trevor harman. large branches right there in the roadway. unfortunately it looks like it missed any cars or homes. no one is hurt, but this is the potential we will see this afternoon into this evening with high winds moving through along with the potential for severe storms. we'll keep you posted. new details on a deck collapse that hurt dozens of people. police in montana say the collapse injured at least 50 people. of those 50, two are in critical condition. a witness said they were gathered on the deck after a memorial service when it collapsed and fell about ten feet. a teenager running a race on an alaskan trail was attacked and killed by a bear. that 16-year-old reportedly seven a text message to his mother saying he was being chased by a water.

right now at 4:00, you can see it there from the skies, mother nature set to strike. severe weather is rolling through the lehigh valley, expected to hit new jersey and delaware as well. we've been telling you about this and showing you, this is the kind of damage we could see some some of the storms. a tree down in bryn mawr. there are severe thunderstorms warnings, and a watch until 8:00 tonight for much of our area. these storms will impact most of our area. >> there you see it on the radar. krystal klei has more. >> we've been this huge line of storms.

and as a result we've already seen downed trees affecting that area, but now a very strong segment through chester county, coming up in the next hour or so. so let's take a closer look. starting with chester county, in fact, just on part of a spotter network. what that means if it's only there for a half hour, that's nearly two inches of rain, these zigzags you see, that lightning coming down as well. this is knotts a warned area. i'm going far south all the way down to baltimore, why? this is heading our way, and delaware up next as that area does move through.

we have to browns mills and trenton. if you're sigh this right now, that's not the end of your stormy weather. this cold front is dropping temperatures as well. take a look here. 71 reading, 71 in pottstown, but as that front passes, it's powerful. when you have almost a 20-degree grad graddian -- gradient, you knotts this is packing power, from 5:00 to 6:30, the heaviest rain is spreading through parts of south jersey and delaware, and more warnings are likely. coming up in a few minutes we'll get into the radar and track it out neighborhood and neighborhood by the minute. let's head outside. george spencer, who's in storm

force 10, where are you? what are you seeing? >> reporter: keeping an eye on these storms on the ground in real time as they approach this area. we are headed northwest right now, right in the bryn mawr area generally. if you can see it, even to the human eye it's clearer, the dark clouds over the top of your picture, truly ominous, as this line of storms approach. you have been hearing the reports as we've been warning you from krystal about the intense rain race coming with the storm. trees down in some areas, that is what we are keeping an eye on. we will be on the roads over the course of the next couple hours, keeping track of things from this perspective to give you a firsthand view. that's the latest. i'm jo george spencer. have the nbc 10 app with you through the night to track the

. i'm george spencer in storm force 10, the leading edge of these severe storms are now impacting the blue routes. the heavy rain in this area really started right around 4:30 this afternoon, as we watched the ominous clouds arrive, and then seemed to lower down out of the sky here. traffic certainly adjusting its speed, as we move through this intense squall. inching along a bit more slowly, as you can see really some intense rainfall rates. the heavy rainfall rates have been a signature ago they progressed east through the afternoon. we are continuing to see that right now, as we head southbound on the blue route. we'll be keeping an eye on it.

jacqueline, we'll send it back to you. west street there. the heaviest rain is in westchester area, moves through with two -- and that is moving toward philadelphia. we have some breaking news right now. the student recently released from north korea has died. otto warmbier's parents 'nounced it. he was serving a 15-year term for stealing a propaganda banner. he slipped into a coma and was still in that coma when he returned. again the student recently released from north korea has died.

really low. the line of storms is approaching us, so take a like from allentown through delaware county, all the way down to washington, d.c. this line is moving through. this is a cold front passing by, and just firing off heavy downpours, lots of lightning. in some spots i believe some hail is likely falling with these types of storms. let's take a closer tour in. right now through chester county, the zigzag you see, that's the lightning coming down. that is a storm report of lightning that struck a home. i can use my zoom tool and --

very heavy hit of rain. the heavy rain actually tracks all the way along to the north, so if we go farther to the north, you see through short sham we're looking at more pockets of rain, not the steady line. that was not to those locations yet. now, again, this is not lasting a whole our, quick moves, but that still means that some of us are seeing more than an inch. let's time this out a bit for us. s wombing done and upper derby continuing with the hivy rain. philadelphia with the line of heaviest rain moving through. you see the same for camden, so this is really just steaming along from the west to the east.

let's look now at hail potential. this is up higher in the sky. hail was possible through east nottingham. have not gotten reports of that, but if you'd like to send in a report. tweet us or find us on phony phony. here's the watching and warnings, the entire zone from the entire valley is under a severe thunderstorm watch. but the yellow you see under a severe thunderstorm warning, that's through 5:15. i would not be surprised if this is extended forward to the east. so prepare yourself. it is windy out there. those are the reporting gusts.

then we see it through south jersey through about 7:00 p.m., some of the heavier rain soaked starting to get over the shoreline. with this much rain dinning, over 1 inch possible in totals, flash flooding will be a concern today. we'll talk more about your ten-day on 10 in the next half hour. a freak accident in a jersey shore lagoon, an 11-year-old girl died while swimming, but she didn't drown. what you need to know before you go swimming. chris christie: addiction is a disease.

around. as a parent, we're in there too. >> reporter: just down the street, tragedy touched this home over the weekend's police say this 11-year-old was shot and killed. >> father's day -- losing a daughter as a father, that's just crazy. >> reporter: police say she was on the rat in the water on a raft when he touched the boat lift that apparently was electrified. >> the tragedy has many checking. >> anything around water to be grounded and a safety switch. in case it shorts out, at least it will break the circuit. >> reporter: cpr was performed before she was roughed to the hospital, where she later died. the other two girls were not 45r78d, but the tragedy has caused pain throughout this community. >> from being maybe not in this
