all the ingredients to create a explosive discovered inside a local man's home. developing right now a local neighborhood on edge after police find explosive, bomb making materials and guns inside this home. good evening. i'm jim rosen field. >> some neighbors are still evacuating as police try to figure out why the dangerous items were inside this 70-year-old man's home. still a lot of activity out there tonight. >> reporter: we walk behind this neighboring church. it's within walking distance of where we are now. you can see what looks like a bomb squad truck with a spotlight on it. there's a couple of investigators in the backyard. tonight neighbors want to know why this 70-year-old man had chemical explosives and other dangerous materials inside his home.

investigators work sbeep into the night where there were several bombs, gun making materials and chemical explosives inside. >> the chemical explosive is what really drew me off because should we be worried. >> reporter: drew lives down the street from the house under investigation. he says he's in disbelief. it's odd to see that something like this was happening right in this small town. they made the discovery that led members to the home on easton road. >> reporter: coming back live,

you can see investigators in the backyard of the home that's under investigation. clean up efforts are underway after a freight train derailed. this could have been much worse. sky first 10 was over the scene. you can see three cars on their sides. they were carrying butter. hazmat crews are working to clean up diesel fuel that leaked from some thoeof those refreige cars. >> i heard the train. it all happened very slowly for how big of a train it was. >> officials tell us it could be weak before crews get the damaged cars clean up and clear the tracks. video shows a minnesota police officer shooting and killing a man. it's a case that's caused a

nationwide uproar. >> shots fired. >> that's the officer calling for help after he shot philando castille seven times. officer was acquitted in this case. >> this video is hard to work. >> some fight find this new video disturbing. we're hearing the officer warning philando and the gunshots that shortly followed. >> sir. how will you? >> first it's a routine traffic stop. >> your bright lights are out. >> minnesota police officer talking with 32-year-old philando kcastille. we hear rustling. he checks out the paper work and then abrupt violence. >> i have a firearm on me. >> don't reach for me. don't full it out. >> no, no.

civil suit against the former officer. the u.s. embassy sent out an alert urging american citizens to avoid the area. a guilty plea from a former da day care worker who was caught on camera pushing a girl down a flight of steps. she pleaded guilty to assault and child endangerment charges. cameras showed her shoving the 4-year-old down the steps back in march. she was fired following her arrest. sentencing is set for mid-august.

will we learn the name of the jurors in the bill cosby case. they think it would make selection difficult during the pre-trial. philadelphia's district attorney facing the trial of his life. today the first witness in the seth williams corruption trial took to the stand. jurors heard from an employee of the nursing where his mother was being cared for. he took $20,000 meant for the nursing home. he's accused of taking illegal gifts in exchange for legal favors. his legal team said williams made bad mistakes but did not commit a crime. a highly congressional race that could impact the nation is over tonight. karen handel is the projected winner by a 5% margin over democrat john ossoff. all eyes were on this race which

was considered an indicator for how the midterm elections could go next year and how donald trump's presidency could impact other races. it's also the most expensive house race in history with more than $50 million spent on the campaign. the pennsylvania health department awarded 12 permits to grow and process medical heroin. philadelphia missed out but two of the businesses are in burks county. a community came together to remember a man shot and killed outside a nightclub in center city. authorities say a fight broke out inside that lounge around 2:00 sunday morning. at least 20 shots were fired. d darden was shot twice and

killed. we spoke with family member who helped raise him. >> i've never seen him argue. i've had him for 28 years and he never said one foul thing to me. please give an opportunity for the future to live. put the guns down. >> so far no arrests in this case. a group of local volunteers comes together in support of a disabled man who was attacked by a group of teenagers. tonight they held a card making party in south philadelphia. the women say it's a simple gesture but hope the cards will help brighten the victim's day. this is video of the attack. two teenagers caught punching him in the face last month in j germantown. the flyers are also taking notice. new tonight, dozens of teachers set to be hired by the philadelphia school district won't be getting those jobs. the cost of a new contract

agreement won't allow them to hire the 66 teachers. the contract was ratified today. it will run through 2020. a record setting thiegt for a high school in philadelphia. the 2017 graduating class was awarded more than a million dollars in scholarcholarships. this is the second straight year the school broke their scholarship record. more than 60% of the graduates are heading four year colleges and universities. an nbc 10 exclusive. a woman in a crosswalk gets hit and the driver takes off. the video you'll see only on 10. also an underground explosion blows out windows and hurts five people nearby a baseball game tonight. what triggered the eruption. stranger in my bed. a homeowner finds this burglar snuggled up and sleeping in his home. and it's been a mostly dry day. not just a sprinkle over our area but look what's coming in

exclusive nbc 10 video. a woman in a crosswalk hit by a driver. the car drives around the victim as she's on the ground and leaves the crash scene. this all happened outside einstein medical center. the driver is on the run tonight. we have the video you'll see only on 10. >> reporter: the worker was on her way to einstein medical center when she was struck. the hospital is a few feet away from where we're standing. she went from being a worker to a patient in the er. a car barrels through the crosswalk with the car barrelling into a woman on her way to work. you can see from surveillance video obtained the driver stopped for seven seconds and then drives around the injured social worker before taking off.

>> oh, my goodness. oh, my god. >> reporter: people who work at einstein are shocked the driver ran down one of their own an didn't have the decency to stop. >> for someone to drive off and know you hit someone and leave an accident scene, that's horrible. >> when you stop, just get out and see if everything is okay. that's terrible. >> reporter: nearly a month has passed since the accident that occurred just behind einstein at 13th street. there were plenty of witnesses when the crash happened but no one got a good look at the license plate. thanks to surveillance video high atop a parking garage police determined the car was a buick lasabre with a sunroof. employee, patients and emergency crews pass through this intersection around the clock. those who make a living helping others say they cringe knowing driver with little concern for others is on the run. >> i hope that he gets caught

whoever it was. take responsibility for what you did. you could have killed that person. >> reporter: the victim suffered a broken leg and is undergoing physical therapy. she declined to be binterviewed but says she hopes it helps bring the driver forward. we have new video into nbc 10 of this steam pipe explosion in baltimore. five people were hurt when the pipe burst under ground. happened near oriole park as crowds were arriving for the game. police say the injured are expected to be okay. you can see the dirt and debris scattered across the blast site. police say the explosion was accidental. tonight a violent ride aboard a united airline flight sent ten people to the hospital. flight was heading from panama city to houston when it hit severe turbulence. emergency crews rushed to the airport in houston where the plane was still able to land safely. nine passengers and a crew

member were hospitalized. crippling heat out west is grounding dozens of flights. flights were cancelled to and from phoenix where temperatures hit 119 degrees today. smaller planes can't take off when it's hotter than 117 out there. officials say they need more speed to take off and the runways aren't long enough to handle that. the national weather service has confirmed that an ef-0 tornado tuouched down in burkes county last night. it had winds up to 80 miles an hour. nbc 10 got video from a viewer last night that showed a funnel cloud. the national weather service another ef-0 tornado touched down in sussex county, delaware yesterday. so much calmer tonight compared to yesterday. people were out there enjoying really nice weather. is this going to last for the first day of summer? >> i would love for this to last

the entire summer. crystal has more on that. >> we skroulds thcould have thi every day of summer then we'd be out of a job. it's very nice right now. temperatures dropped to the 70s outside. 78 in philadelphia and 77 in wilmington. allentown gorgeous now. we have these 70s across the map. a tight view right in new castle county shows the smallest shower that popped up. we have stayed dry the whole day but this little cell had to make its way through. it's already falling apart. i don't expect we'll see much out of this except make a sprinkle. otherwise this is falling apart and the rest of us are staying on the dry side. you can see across the map aside from southern portions of our zone we're only seeing a few spotty clouds out there this evening. really just nice if you're wanting to be outside. here is a look at our radar and satellite view.

we have this line of rain that's sitting to our northwest. that's going to head our direction as we progress into tomorrow. i think it will break apart quite a bit. it will provide some spotty showers late day into the evening hours tomorrow for our first day of summer. here is the temperatures for our first day of summer. overall it looks nice. very similar to what we saw today. lower humidity. temperatures in the upper 80s. allentown, 83. showing you a few spot showers picking up out there. nothing really heavy except for a brief moment of a steadier rain. we'll get to your future model in a moment. new jersey, 86. dover forecast high of 88 degrees for our first day of summer. now let's look at that hour by hour. there's the rain i was talking about a moment ago. it's a little more well formed than the model is indicating which means that the model may be underplaying things a tad by the time it gets to us.

take a look. tomorrow morning your drive to work or anything in the morning hours going to be just fine. we see a few collulouds out the. if we put this into the afternoon hours you see a few sprinkles. this isn't a lot of rain that moves by but spot shower can't be ruled out. most of that moves on overnight by thursday morning. we have cleared up yet again. mostly dry on wednesday on top for us. this is tropical storm cindy. you can see the center of the storm down here. then reaching up through georgia and even the carolinas at this point. that's for now going to stay well to the south of us. take a look at the cone projection as we go thursday into friday. where does it head? our way. pushes the moisture our way.
