let's start with nbc's kerry sanders. he's in the thick of it now in alabama. kerry, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the exacts from tropical storm cindy being felt from florida dauphin island in alabama, you can see the impact of the storm. the rising tide here continues. you can see some homes threatened. this morning there are more than 7,000 people without electricity as power crews try to keep up with the impacts of tropical st this morning tropical storm cindy's loosely defined eye making its way onshore with a massive wet punch. with 12 inches of rain in some spots, flooding coastal towns and spawning waterspout after waterspout in florida's panhandle. >> that is a waterspout. fort walton beach, winds of 50 miles an hour taking down trees and leaving a baseball field in ruins. in alabama, cindy has already claimed one young life. a large log churning in the surf

lodged in a 10-year-old boy walking with his family on the beach. >> it rolled the timber on top of the child. >> despite warnings some vacationers ventured into the surf. cindy putting a damper on the vacation. >> i thought i would go home with a tan but i don't think i'm going to. >> this morning alabama and louisiana remain under a state of emergency. louisiana's dpm louisiana's governor pence warning the storm system could hamper the spire state. >> people all over the coast should take it seriously because it has a potential it drop appear awful lot of rain all the way through as it moves forth. >> low-lying grand isle partially submerged, while new orleans despite 133 miles of levees and floodwaters, memorialsry of katrina remain raw. a useful lesson to everyone in the path of any storm.

spoke saturday, all the way spoke tennessee and ohio river valleys. that moisture is doing to spread to the east. in fact, as you can see right now, as it comes onshore, weakens on land, look for rain in the southeast and midwest. then it's doing to interact with this cold front that's pushing down from the north, and that's doing to squeeze out even more moisture, more severe weather through the mississippi and ohio river valley. by saturday even spot northeast looking at some severe storms as that tropical-fed moisture continues. here is the flash flood risk, the highest right around the western -- eastern parts of texas on into louisiana and parts of arkansas. but as you can see pi tomorrow, a flood risk from alexandria, louisiana, up into binghamton, new york. we are talking about 3 to 5 inches of rain. some areas picking up up to a foot as you get down into the gulf. even from nashville, memphis, they are doing to see 5 to 7 inches of rain out of this. it's doing to be a big impact

throughout much of the country. >> it's incredible to look at that map. thank you. >> thanks very much. also this morning a possible motive is emerging in that chilling terror attack at the airport out in flint, michigan, where a police officer was stabbed in the neck. a canadian man charged as the fbi launches an immediate investigation. nbc's playbook blake mccoy has morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. the airport here is back open after that lone wolf attack. this morning we're learning more about the attacker who came from canada and our law enforcement sources tell us was not previously known to the fbi. overnight police in canada homen terror suspect. a simple person, calm, i never saw anything bizarre, says his downstairs neighbor. according to fbi 50-year-old amor fthoui left his home friday, entered u.s. through new york, then traveled to flint,

michigan, where he's accused of attacking an airport police officer. lieutenant jeff neville, a father of two, is recovering from a stab wound to his neck. >> he's a good friend of mine, yes. it was very terrifying to see something that quick. >> reporter: the attack happened before the security checkpoint of flint's bishop international airport wednesday. the suspect using a 13 inch amazon jungle survival knife like this one, according to the fbi investigating this as an act of terror. witnesses say fthoui yelled allahu akbar, which translates to allah is great. >> something to the effect you've killed people in iraq and afghanistan and we're all going to die. >> reporter: similar to one at a shopping mall in st. cloud, minnesota, where another knife wielding man killed 10 people while also yelling reference

voicing their opposition. >> health care is a right not a privilege. >> reporter: also this morning congressional black caucus rejected a follow-up meeting here at the white house arguing their concerns presented in the first meeting, quote, fell on deaf ears. the cdc chairman wrote the president, "we have seen no evidence that your administration acted on our calls for action, and we have, in fact, witnessed steps that will hurt black communities. it has become abundantly clear a conversation with cbc would not be productive." white house secretary sean spicer said the president enjoyed meeting with cbc leadership and looked forward to a follow-up meeting with the entire group adding the president hopes to work with the cbc on issues they previously identified. matt and savannah. >> peter alexander starting us off. thank you. those special election losses we've been covering, democrats' losses have democrats scrambling to regroup. as finger pointing begins, some

to republican karen handel. >> nancy pelosi's friends are bang rolling ossoff's campaign. >> reporter: after gop repeatedly ran ads linking ossoff to pelosi, undermining his message of change. >> as nancy pelosi is the leader of the democratic party, it's doing to be very difficult to win. >> we clearly need to have the right message and the right messengers to show the american people we can help. >> reporter: ohio congressman tim ryan who challenged pelosi's leadership last year inflamed the situation. >> you think nancy pelosi is more toxic than donald trump? >> you know what, the honest answer is, in some areas of the country, yes, she is. >> reporter: south carolina congressional candidate joe cunningham tweeting, if elected, i will not vote for nancy pelosi for speaker. time to move forward and win again. with president obama and vice president biden gone, there has been a leadership vacuum for the democrats. pelosi spokesperson arguing the

buzz about her all a product of republican efforts to smear her. the politics of personal destruction has been a gop hall mark. other democrats caution the party's problem go way beyond pelosi. >> this is not an issue of who the specific leader might be at a given time, it's really a question of message. >> reporter: many democrats are digging in. congressional campaign circulating a memo to lawmakers declaring there's no doubt the party can take back the house next fall. the reality is it would be difficult for anyone to unseat pelosi. she has a lot of allies. she's also seen as someone who has raised a massive amount of money for her party. as for republicans, it's way too soon for them to start drawing big conclusions about what this might mean for midterm elections. after all, their recent victories have been in reliably red districts where democrats are outperforming what they did in 2016. matt, savannah. >> kristen welker on capitol hill. thanks. move to iraq where one of

good morning. just about 7:30. we've been following breaking news in gloucester county where a deadly crash has shut down route 55. this is video from the scene. one person died when a pickup truck and a dump truck collided in franklin township. one of the trucks caught fire. jessica boyington is watching the situation. >> we can tell you that we've been watching this all morning. it happened around the 3:00 mark or so and this is what sky 4 shot. up above the scene of a deadly accident scene again. so an accident investigation underway. a fuel spill involved here and again it was the collision of two vehicles. so a lot of cleanup underway.

it is 7:30 now on this thursday morning, 22nd day of june, 2017. look at these images we're showing you right now. tropical storm cindy is slamming the south after making landfall in louisiana. that is a shot, as you can see, from dauphin island in alabama. and the surf >> it is. >> that's a george castanza line. impact fell across the southern region, bands of heavy rain stretching from texas to tennessee. at least one death is being blamed on this storm. a 10-year-old boy kild alabama beach when he was struck by a log that had washed ashore.

the fbi is investigating wednesday's stabbing at a police officer at a michigan airport as an act of terrorism. the 49-year-old suspect is in custody. investigators say he came to the u.s. from canada. but they say there isn't any indication he was involved in any wider terror plot. the officer who was injured in that attack is in the hospital and he is said to be recovering this morning. good news from buckingham pala palace. prince pihillip is out of the hospital today. the duke of edinburgh turned 96 two weeks ago. >> wish him well. this is going to be an emotional day in ohio where former north korean detainee otto warmbier is being laid to rest. nbc's katie beck has more on that. katie, good morning to you. >> good morning. we join you from wyoming, ohio, the hometown of otto warmbier where thousands will come today to pay their respects.

his funeral service will be held at the local high school where warmbier earned his diploma. he graduated second in his class there, just four years ago. this morning blue and white ribbons line otto warmbier's hometown. a somber sign today of a funeral for a young man remembered as kind. >> he was truly one of the nicest, most compassionate people i've known. >> as a vigil this week at the university of virginia, warmbier's girlfriend recalled his impact. being with otto made life all the more beautiful, she said. and it was not just my life he made more colorful but everyone else's. >> otto's fraternity brothers, otto was someone always looking out for other people. one of the fraternity brothers said, everyone needs a friend like otto. >> warmbier died monday just days after he was carried off a plane in a coma after 17 months of imprisonment in north korea for allegedly stealing a poster.

warmbier's parents refused an autopsy despite his mysterious death. for the first time we're hearing from a danish woman who traveled with warmbier. i do not think he did anything wrong, she says, besides being an american, being very young and looking good on pictures and in propaganda videos. on wednesday defense secretary james mattis condemned north korea. >> this goes beyond any kind of understanding of law and order, of humanity, responsibility toward any human being. white house sources say president trump had an emotional response to warmbier's death. on tuesday trump blamed the previous administration. >> frankly if he were brought him sooner, the result would have been a lot different. he should have been brought him today. >> reporter: still today three other americans are being held by north korea. tony kim, a professor, was arrested in april for unknown reasons.

spectrum, uva, uvb, coverage for wrinkles as well as skin cancer. you want to say water resistant. 40 to 80 is the most you can buy for that. there's no such thing as a waterproof sunscreen anymore. >> sometimes we have the right product but we still dongwhat a when we're putting this stuff on. >> the biggest mistake is people forget to put on sunscreen. you need to apply it at least 2 ounces, which is a shot glass of sunscreen to cover your whole body. you want to apply 15 minutes before you go outside. you cannot do it one minute before you jump in the pool or you're already outside. you want to rub it in. if you don't rub it in, sunscreen is missing products. >> we're going to go down. are these spray on? >> spaces are really great because they are super convenient. the problem with spaces, when you spray them, you see it goes all over the place. >> yeah. >> then sometimes you miss areas. so you want to spray it but also

my sort of personal favorite is to take a spray that's more of a lotion and spray it on and then rub it in so you can see where it's been. >> i like it. combination of these spaces together are great. people love them and they are super fun. >> this is a cool one i've not seen yet. we're going to show you, reveal, this is a new one. it is mousse. suntan mousse lotion. >> yeah, suntan mousses are really fun. you put them on. you rub them together, spread them on. they are not greasy. they disappear really easily. so you have a lot on there. we can take this and rub them off but they work really, really well. what i'm loving about all these products, they are products you can use on any part of your body. >> okay. >> we have primers. you put it under your makeup. apply a tinted moisturizer that has sunscreen on it so you don't need to apply makeup. then fabulous new makeup setting

spaces. you can spray these directly onto your face and apply your spf right over your makeup. they don't ruin it. the better part, these are fantastic, for a person starting to lose a little hair and don't want to ruin their hair, you can spray it straight into your hair. feels like a hairspray but has spf in it. >> lips are vulnerable. >> there's a high risk for skin cancer. you can't just apply lipstick. you have to wear ones with spf. >> which ones? >> they have spf, great colors, they have spf. then also lip glosses they make, color science makes a fabulous one and has spf. if you put a lip gloss on your lips without spf it's like y bu >> like they did in the old days. not great. >> people complain sunscreen is hard to get rid of. if you feel a little greasy and

nice simple meal. before you ep invitations, you need a go to menu. caterer elizabeth has that covered. hi, how are you? >> hi. how are you? >> i'm great. we're going to make a couple of great dishes but also serve those dishes on beautiful table. what have you done down there? >> this is my favorite time of year. normally you invite people over, scrubbing baseboards, trying to trap dust bunnies so they don't see your house. take them outside. all we did, we literally took pots from the garden, pulled them on the table. farmers market is bustling with fantastic produce. throw that in the middle. it's all edible, incredible. >> a little fancy there. do you mind when people do plastic plates and knives and forks out there? >> absolutely. i want this to be easy. rarely do you have eight of anything. always something is broken or missing. mix and match makes it more fun. >> what are we making here. >> avocado, a and heirloom
