>> the weekend is going to be looking good. so far this afternoon we have at least been dry. the sun has come out. it's really, really humid. there are showers back to the west. we have some thunderstorms already near harrisburg. those are moving in our direction. we have another cluster of bigger storms near pittsburgh. and then the biggest area, this is the core of the remnants of cindy coming up tomorrow morning. so we have several shots of getting some of this. here we are hour by hour at 5:00. the computer model showing some thunderstorms building up in the area. some of these could contain strong, gusty winds buzz they are really going to be moving fast. there's 7:00. 9:00 some of that pittsburgh stuff starts approaching. and as we head toward e the

latter portion of the night. hooeg some of the main area of rain. look at the heavy rain back to the west coming through right between 6:00 and 9:00. then it just moves right on out of here. we have a severe thunderstorm risk for the next several hours. we'll be monitoring those thunderstorms for anything developing because that's what's going to happen. so as we look through philadelphia, the greatest threat is tomorrow morning. although we could see some storms this evening. especially in some of the northern suburbs and lehigh valley with a big threat and it's going to be warm and humid overnight. big changes coming over the weekend. we'll get into those details in a bit. the rain is threatening several outdoor events scheduled for tomorrow morning. >> deanna durante is joining us live where the stage is set for a big music festival.

>> he's fulfilled his obligations to provide truthful and complete testimony. that's what he did. >> earlier in the day, the jury heard testimony from bucks county businessman muhammad ali. he asked it he gave lavish gifts to williams in part for his help as district attorney. he told the court, yes, that knowing someone in power always helps. then it was the defense's turn pointing out that williams never did anything for ali in terms of the troubles. the defense argued that the two men had a a friendship and ali paid for dinners and a vacation because he knew williamsen couldn't afford it. when the irs came knocking, investigating him, the defense wanted to know why he didn't reach out to williams then it for help if he had been cultivating this relationship as a prid proquo relationship. >> ob the witness stand monday,

the police commissioner was once in charge of homeland security for the police. sullivan is expected to testify about how he put ali in touch with him to try to help with the issues a at the airport. >> sullivan did come to court today, but there were two more witness who is had to testify. the witnesses for the prosecution were employees in the da's office. they testified how seth williams used vehicling for his own personal use and how he did not disclose gifts from muhammad ali on his ethics form. >> senate republicans unveiled the proposal thursday. it eliminates the penalty on people who do not buy insurance. tax credits to help people afford insurance while slashing

waited for care. chaos inside philadelphia city hall forces a hearing on the soda it tax to be cancelled. people came out to show their support for the tax. they had signs and chanted they are worried that funding for universal pre-k could be taken away if the tax goes away. it was supposed to include state lawmakers who want to see the impact of the soda tax. some officials say they are not surprised by the demonstrations. >> when we see increasing levels of almost obsessive need to interfere with local philadelphia when we're trying to lift up our tools, rebuild neighborhoods and communities and invest in our institutions. people are going to push back. >> other councilmen say they are not sure why the demonstrations happen today saying they may have thought the hearing was

going to discuss canceling programs. we have an update on the condition of the high ranking congressman wounded in. last week's attack on a baseball field in virginia. he's out of intensive care this afternoon. steve scalise and throw other people were shot when a gunman opened fire on republican members of congress as they practiced for a charity baseball game. he was in critical condition when he got to the hospital and has since had a number of surgeries. a big night of celebration suturns sour for high school students after police were called about 300 stouudents wer supposed to visit the funplex mu amusement park. but there were arrival delays after half a dozen students reported being sick. >> symptoms of being sick and nauseous. not being able to carry themselves, i'm not sure. >> it is unclear what the students consume, but officers took one to the hospital and

four others were picked up by parents. both the high school and superintendent's office had no comment about the incident. new video of several men want ed for burglarizing a family's home and business. you can see the man in an apartment. this is above the femme's deli on woodland avenue last saturday. police say they also hit the deli downstairs. the same day that group of men ransacked the deli owner's home in delaware county. investigators now blaming a faulty refrigerator for sparking this high-rise apartment fire that killed 80 people in london. they it made that announcement l today more than a week after the 24-story building was devoured by flames. they also said today incident ligs and tiles in the buildings did not meet fire safety rules. manslaughter charges are being considered. witnesses are describing chaos at the new jersey state fair after gunfire sent people running. people heard the gunshots a at

11:30 last night at the meadowlands. they started run ining as troops directed them to exits. it was the first fight night of the fair. several people were taken into custody. the task force is take iing fight against drugs on the road. they launched a drug collection van and mobile drug drop boxes. they are for neighbors who want to get rid of expired medication safely and to reduce drug addictions across the county. could be dealing with program cuts and reduced funding. officials there are now considering a 5.7% tax increase next year to make up the difference. if the current house budget proposal passes, that number could be up to seven. >> a tradition at the coast guard captain anderson assumed command as captain today.

kimmel center campus camera. it is hot and humid. glenn schwartz is tracking the steamy and the stormy weather. >> it feels like it's in the 90s because of the high humidity. that's going to help fuel some of these storms. and then the main area that is from cindy. you can see the circulation very clearly coming into tennessee. that's what is going to hit us tomorrow morning. now these solid yellow areas, these are severe thunderstorm warnings in effect right now. the lighter yellow is severe thunderstorm watches. now as of now, we don't have any watches tr this area.

but it's possible this will be extended for the possibility of strong, gusty winds with some of these storms as we come through the rest of the area and into the evening. now hour by hour, you can see some storms popping up with the heat and humidity that has built up. ask then some of the activity from western and central pennsylvania comes in later tonight and into tomorrow morning. we showed you one model a little while ago. this is the different high resolution model. it's in the lehigh valley. right on top of the i95 corridor from trenton to philadelphia and into northern delaware. roigt at 8:00 a.m. and you can see it's already clearing back to the west.

that's how fast this stuff is moving. by 10:00 a.m. it's already at the coast. so even if you're at the shore by 11:00 a.m., it's over with. and the rest of the weekend is looking good. there's going to be some pretty heavy rain with this though. right now, we have 88 degrees and high humidity in philadelphia. we have a mix of clouds and sun. the clouds starting to build up. in much of the area right now. and we're going to be seeing these temperatures go not much higher. it feels like 95 in philadelphia. 99 in vineland. i don't happen to believe that dover report because there's humidity yets. but things will e get more comfortable through the rest of the weekend and erika has got that. >> we are tracking the remnants of cindy moving out of the area.

thunderstorms. the remnants of cindy is coming tomorrow morning. we issued that first alert yesterday to help you plan around it for the weekend. because of most of the weekend is going to be fine weather wise. you can see some of the thunderstorms already getting pretty close tr burkes county. some coming into the county. one thunderstorm moving to the east. it's about 40 miles an hour. so it should hit right around a 5:00. and douglas at 5:26. we'll track other thunderstorms as they get closer to us. we got much more activity in western pennsylvania. a lot more lightning with that one. and the true remnants of cindy, you can see the circulation of that in kentucky. that's going to affect us tomorrow morning. here's the hour by hour as we go through the night. there are more storms coming in from pittsburgh that will be getting into the area late this

sears and k-mart is closing another 20 stores. they are shutting down 2 kmart locations making for 260 closings this year. none of the new store closings are in our area. there could be going out of business sales. sears was at one point the largest retailer in the country buffer it struggled with competition from walmart and target. netflix launched its first interactive show. it's called puss and book, trapped in an epic tail. the kids can make a soerz of choices as it goes on using their controllers. if you take too long to decide, netflix will make the choice tr you to continue. a cool idea. tropical storm cindy set to have a big impact on the start of our weekend. >> won't be a washout though, right? >> not even close to a washout. but plan around it. we have the threat of thunderstorms tonight and more

cohosting the new year's eve show. paris is transforming into a giant olympiapark as part of the final push to host the 2024 games. paris and los angeles are the only two cities bidding for the games. the french capital is running a series of events throughout the weekend to ro mote the city. paris last hosted the games in 1924 while l.a. last hosted them in 1984. sometimes it's so hot outside you don't want to fire up the oven. >> what if you still want to bake cookies? that's where your car comes into play. a young woman put the dough on a baking sheet in the middle of her dash board. the hot sun did the rest of the work. you can see her filter says it's 118 degrees outside. we did some research and your car needs to be 165 degrees inside tr the cookies to bake. it also proves how dangerously hot your car can get while sitting in the sun. >> i bet it smelled good though. it's been pretty hot in

this area is a severe thunderstorm warning just west of burkes county. those storms are moving pretty rapidly to the east. not all that well organized right now. but we do have a little bit of lightning and some heavier rain right near kutztown. that cell is is moving in the direction of the town. so it's going to get heavier in that area. we also have more on the way. these are the severe thunderstorm warnings just west of chester county and burkes county. we'll let you know if there are any warnings that come into our area until 5:30 p.m. for those particular warnings. more warnings out with this stuff in western pennsylvania. maybe a tornado warning just issued out there. this is the core of the remnants of cindy. you can see the spin in there. that's what's coming in tomorrow morning. as we go through the evening. we'll see some of the storms

popping up just kind of scattered around. first of all, then we wait for the pittsburgh stuff to come in later this evening. as you can see, some of those pretty heavy as well. and then later tonight, it's like a third area. that's the main action coming in tomorrow morning. 6:00 a.m., poconos, burkes county. by 8:00 it's in the philadelphia area. down through northern delaware. and by 9:00 it's already moved out of our area and by 10:00 it's already over at the shore. so most of the day is okay. there may be a lot of rain. this is the latest computer model showing the total rainfall through tomorrow morning.

and it's got 3 inches in allentown and over an inch across much of the rest of the area. much less farther to the south for the jersey shore. a lot of that rain coming in just a couple of hours. that's why there could be some localize ed flooding. but a lot of the weekend is looking better. erika has the story for that. >> at least it won't be a total washout. i'm going to use another model. we'll see by tomorrow morning all that rain is has cleared offshore. a couple clouds stick around. that's just about it. no complaints around here. we were expecting more rain. everything clears offshore. and notice really not e seeing much as far as clouds go. temperatures in the upper 80s on
