>> some folks are getting hit hard. especially in the lehigh valley we have warnings in effect for these counties. you can see some of the heavy rain rain just through reading and allentown. let's see where they are headed. >> trenton around 7:00. severe thunderstorm warnings out for these areas until 6:15 for the lehigh valley ask much of burkes county. that includes montgomery county. these storms, as you can see, the darker reds indicating some very heavy rain. another bit of timing, limerick at 6:16, hatfield at 6:24. very heavy rain of 2 to 4 inches

per hour at its paek. these are real downpours. fortunately they are aren't in one lace or woed have trouble. we have had indications of hail. one north of reading near maiden creek over the last hour. and we're watching the heights of these storms and the potential hail cores. . this is in burkes county and the one in lehigh valley not quite as high as a little while ago. there's a lot going on now. we have some in western pennsylvania and some farther back. this is the core of the remnants of cindy. that's what's going to get us tomorrow morning. so it's going to be an active night as some of these storms move through and especially in the morning. and all you got to do is change your plans a little bit to get around this stuff.

opposition to the health care bill today. the senator says he can't support the bill in its current form. senate majority loader mitch mcconnell wants to put the bill up for a full vote next week, but it's uncertain will he will find the votes for it to pass. more in-depth coverage of the intensifying battle over the gop's health care bill. that's coming up at 6:30 on "nbc nightly news" with lester holt right after this newscast. in the seth williams corruption trial, a businessman testified he gave williams lavish gifts in part because he wanted help from the da. rosemary connors spent the day listening to the testimony from today's key witness. >> reporter: praising the efforts of his defense lawyers embattled district attorney seth williams left the courthouse after spending the day listening to testimony from bucks county businessman muhammad ali. the prosecution argues the two men had an arrangement that ali

showered williams with gifts and a vacation. williams agreed to help him with his legal troubles. the defense contends the two were close friends and questioned ali's motives for testifying. ali is expect canned to receive a reduced sentence for bribery and unrelated tax fraud charges. >> he he fulfilled his obligations to provide truthful and complete testimony. >> this week muhammad ali testified williams put him in touch with sullivan because ali was having ongoing problems with tsa screenings at philadelphia international. sometimes being detained for hours. on one occasion he told the court sullivan arranged for a police officer to greet him at the terminal and the processing went quickly. previously the deputy

commissioner did nothing wrong. he will be the first witness on monday morning. repo reporting, i'm rosemary connors, nbc 10 news. confusion at philadelphia city hall today where people from opposing sides clashed over the soda tax. philadelphiaens were asked to come ask share their feelings on the tax good or bad, but some thought the meet iing was plann to override the tax that funds pre-k programs in the city. support es of the tax brought signs and sounded horns. meetingers couldn't get the crowd under control so the entire hearing was cancelled. there's a new push to crack down on so-called stop and go stores that sell alcohol in philadelphia. city councilwoman organized sit-ins at several stores today. some of them are breaking the law that it requires a business selling beer to be able to seat 30 people. >> go home and they leave behind

b people that are intoxicated, standing and laying out in the street. >> enforce the l is up to the state, not the city. organizers of the sit-in hopes the state makes it harder for them to get liquor licenses. a big payout for a corrections officer. she was force ed d to take disability e retirement instead of getting a brief leave from her job. she was diagnosed with multiple sclor sis. she was awarded 11.8 million in damages. keeping up with tradition, this morning a change of command ceremony held in philadelphia tr the coast guard sector delaware bay. captain scott anderson relieved benjam benjamin cooper as the commander and. captain of the port. he will oversee the shores of philadelphia, southern ask delaware. nearly 150 more state.

they are there in the morning? >> in the morning, there's a problem. after that, we are fine for the rest of the weekend. this is just a limited time period where we're going to get some of these downpours. we have some downpours in burkes county and upper bucks. these are nasty storms ask heavy rain. just about on to potstown. so you're kind of out of it. we do have some thunderstorm warnings from this. 6:42 for the core. 7:05 in trenton. at the moment it's not headed right towards philadelphia. it makes a right turn like sometimes severe storms do, then it would be a threat, especially near new morgan. not a lot of lightning with

this, but we have the severe thunderstorm warnings. the latest one goes until 7:00 tonight. this is south of allentown. now there are more storms to the west. although they are weakening. and the core of cindy, the remnants of it, spinning around in kentucky. that's what's coming this way. there's severe thunderstorm watches in effect. it goes from philadelphia northward. it does not include south jersey or any of delaware. that watch until 10:00 tonight. so we'll be here monitoring this. here comes more thunderstorms through the night. so don't leave the does open overnight. ask here comes the heavy stuff. for tomorrow morning, this is some really heavy rain. torrential rains. it you're sleeping, you might

not be sleeping anymore. it's going to wake you up. there's 30. poconos down the lehigh valley and burkes county, just into chester county. 6:30 in the morning, 8:00 in the morning. here's a lower bucks through philadelphia. it's already over with. the sun is out in part ofts area. by 10:00 the weekend portion is right at the beaches. so after that, the shore is going to have some good weather. so this weekend overall, it's looking pretty good. it's the not going to start that way. the latest computer model showing anywhere from just a few at the shore to potentially up to 3 inches of rain. some of that coming with what's going on tomorrow. the temperature knocked down to 76 in reading.
