cleaning up, power lines downed, homes torn up by trees. a saturday of picking up the pieces after the storm. held hostage by the storm, these guys get trapped inside a new jersey home depot and capture the powerful winds on camera. >> and developing in the lehigh valley, a neighborhood on edge as police search for two people accused of shooting at officers. >> nbc 10 news starts now. what better place to be stranded than at home depot. >> stranded in the storm. powerful winds blew open the doors at a home depot in north jersey as pounding rain and a funnel cloud scared these guys inside the store.

good evening. it is the same line of severe storms that pounded through the early morning hours, downing trees, flooding rivers and causing a whole lot of damage. right now it could not be nicer. you can call this the calm after the storm. here's a live look at ocean city where the beach has been packed most of the day. and tonight we have team coverage on what happened this morning and the cleanup from the storm. nbc 10's drew smith is live in hadden township where crews have been cleaning up all day long, but first start with first alert meteorologist erica martin. these storms blew fast just like you forecasted. >> this was a fast moving system. we had a storm cell. we had a couple things going on. what we call discreet cell, couple cells on their own they go rogue and that's what happened, they tend to be stronger, we also had a line of storms that congregate together sometimes you can see them move better when they move west to east, they encompass the entire area. that's what happened here.

thankfully however we're seeing mostly clear skies right now. still a few mid level clouds, lower level clouds. a sign we have moisture in the atmosphere, after all remnants of cindy, that was a massive system, a lot of tropical moisture headed in our direction. currently right now we can see satellite and radar images mostly clear. notice green right here you're picking up, so some moisture still left in the atmosphere. not completely dry, however it is certainly drying out as night comes to an end and into tomorrow. current temperatures mainly in the 80s. what i do like though westerly winds. we're seeing warmer temperatures for tomorrow as well. 86 right now in philadelphia. mt. holly 84 for you. atlantic city 86. i have your rip current forecast in a bit. dover 85 and coatesville current temperature 81 degrees. so certainly a nice end to the day. neighborhood high temperatures for tomorrow seeing lots of 80s, lots of sunshine. i'm going with mostly sunny skies, perhaps i'm being a little stingy, sunny skies for many of you. but i want to keep in mind we

still may have some upper level moisture left because of cindy, so i'm going with mostly clear skies. nonetheless a really nice sunday in the forecast, seeing lots of 80s across the entire delaware valley, jersey shore, delaware 88, wilmington, dover 85 for you. again, here is your rip current threat for tomorrow, really important because it looks like it will be moderate risk, do not swim alone, check with beach officials, really important especially if you are not a good swimmer. and download the nbc 10 app, it's a free one for updates on what to expect at the beach and of course for your entire saturday night and sunday. denise, back to you. >> erica, thank you. and our team coverage continues in south jersey. nbc 10's drew smith is live in hadden township where some utility poles have snapped in half there, drew. >> reporter: yeah, denise, cleanup has been going throughout the day, camden county had trucks out early, but they haven't gotten to all of the spots. you can see this utility pole snapp snapped right at the base. i want to show you here you can see some of the debris that's

just been piling up in parking lots and yards throughout our area. and that is because those violent winds got this saturday off to a messy start. >> this is a tornado, guys. we're going inside. >> reporter: intense winds sendsing rain sideways off this home depot, police shared this video capturing the height of the storm. >> right there in the [ bleep ] parking lot, tornado right there in the [ bleep ] parking lot. holy [ bleep ]. >> reporter: by that time a powerful weather already ripped up sidewalks and damaged property in collinswood camden county. then north in burlington county, neighbors knew this was serious when they heard transformers crashing to the ground and exploding. >> after the explosion it was a lot of heavy winds and a snap, crackle, pop from all the trees falling one after another. >> reporter: a dozen utility poles now block downtown brownville. >> it's a lot of damage. >> reporter: the power out and getting around made nearly impossible, a church already

canceled sunday worship. >> somebody was very lucky they didn't get hurt. >> reporter: the post storm weather cooperated for a saturday of repairs. >> lots of rain, thunder. it was just so much going on at one time, so it was very scary. >> reporter: lori cavanaugh had a tree limb in her roof and damage to her car, but she's just glad everyone is okay. >> i just thank god everybody is okay and nobody got hurt. >> reporter: people have also been doing a good job all day of trying to stay away from these live wires until the utility company can get out and make sure that the power is off. also one of the cities we went to today had a gas leak as well, so while the storms may only last a couple of minutes, it's also important to note that the danger can persist throughout the day. and of course the cleanup still going on here tonight. live in hadden township, drew smith, nbc 10 news. >> drew, thank you. and this morning storms knocked down this tree along kelley drive. you can see it's blocking one lane of traffic here at midvail road, but drivers are still able to make it around.

and a similar scene here in new castle county, delaware. you can see the storms uproot trees and this one fell onto a home in bear. crews across the county had been busy all afternoon working to clear away the debris. and any time a first alert weather team is tracking storms, you can too. use the nbc 10 app to zoom right into your neighborhood to see when storms will impact you. and developing now in lehigh county. police are evacuating homes as they search for two people accused of shooting at officers. nbc 10's andrea thomas near a neighborhood where police have a home surrounded. you spoke to a neighbor who thinks these two people were in his home this afternoon? >> reporter: -- came home as there were a lot of indications that somebody was in his house. now, take a look behind me. this is still very much of an active scene. now, this all started around noon when police tried to stop a

man and woman who had warrants and they fired on them. now, where we are right now is in the 5000 block of lyme where a man and woman armed with a handgun believed to be barricaded inside a home. this is near the wedgewood golf course. the people who are here now have been told to stay in their house, lock their doors. listen to what this man told us when he came home, didn't know what was happening. listen to what he tells us what tipped him off that something was going wrong. >> i opened the dead bolt. it was locked, and i never lock the dead bolt. and when i started walking in the house, my cellar door to go down to the basement was open, and the light was on. and i was talking to a friend on the phone and he just said get out of the house. >> reporter: again, we are off

lime port pike right now. residents who live in this area they are being told to lock their doors. again, it's believed that this man and woman have federal warrants. this is very much of an active scene, dangerous situation. we're going to stay here and bring you the latest updates. reporting live, nbc 10 news. >> thank you, andrea. police are searching for a killer after a woman was found beaten and stabbed behind a philadelphia high school. someone walking by found a woman's body around 3:15 this morning in a park next to dobbins high school in north philadelphia. officials say the 34-year-old had multiple stab wounds from her legs to chest and her face was beaten. they also told us her belongings were scattered throughout the grass. >> her condition shows a awful experience that she must have gone through. she was stabbed repeatedly. >> the woman's identity has not been released but police say she lived in the neighborhood.

thousands were forced to evacuate their london high-rise apartments overnight. they could be out of their homes for as long as four weeks. fire safety inspectors deem the buildings unsafe. the inspections came amid safety concerns after that deadly fire at a high-rise apartment in west london last week. republicans hoping to pass a replacement for obamacare still have more work to do and not much time to do it. senate leaders want to vote on the new health care bill this week, but right now there is not

enough republican support to pass it. with nevada senator dean heller the latest republican to say he will not vote for it. >> support a piece of legislation that takes insurance away from tens of millions of americans and hundreds of thousands from vets. >> he now joins four other republicans who oppose the bill. those four say cuts don't go far enough. several medical advocacy groups are lobbying against the plan including the american academy of pediatrics. it says certain cuts will hurt children, and the aarp, which is urging all senators to vote no. back where it all began, boyz ii men gets the ultimate honor. why they say after all their accolades this means the most. >> and, denise, i'm tracking another beauty for tomorrow. probably a perfect sunday in the forecast. details coming up in your accurate forecast.

a permanent reminder now stands at the site where one of philadelphia's darkest days played out. the state of pennsylvania unveiled a historical marker commemorating the bombing of headquarters in may of 1985, police dropped a makeshift bomb on the rooftop bunker of the black liberation group during a standoff. 11 people died including five children, hundreds of people lost their homes in that fire that followed. ramona africa was one of two survivors and she spoke today saying innocent lives in the neighborhood paid the price for that bombing. >> we are very clear on the fact that what happened may 13th of 1985 had nothing to do with o sage residents for real. >> students of jubilee school nominated the site for the marker after they studied the incident for two years.

and now to our weather. this morning's heavy rain left behind swollen creeks all around our region. and you can see the creek in montgomery county flooded its banks. very high water this morning. this is the scene near adams avenue and philadelphia's crescentville neighborhood. and take a look at this. we found a pair of kayakers braving conditions on the water earlier today. they had to fight the current on the skukyl river. people enjoying the new ferris wheel. tonight bis marquee is headlining. let's head to the shore. today is a great beach weather and tomorrow you can expect much of the same. it really did turn around, erika. >> gorgeous. you know that song, right?

i'm not going to sing it. >> i know. that's okay. >> we'll go with this really great theme right now. happiness, yeah, we're really excited because conditions are going to be ideal for tonight and for tomorrow. so be sure you have a great time tonight, temperatures today climb to 88, the low 72 overnight and rainfall total just for today looks a little bit lower right now. of course we'll have more information if you follow us at nbcphiladelphia. top wind gust 39 miles per hour. definitely a lot of wild weather earlier this morning. good news everything now is starting to subside and chill out. locally philadelphia seeing lots of 80s, currently 85, port richmond 87, fox chase 86, parkwood 85 and chestnut hill currently at 82. what about jersey? also seeing lots of 80s and certainly more sunshine than earlier today. voorhees at 86. clayton 83. lumberton 86. lots of 80s, i can go on and on. so conditions right now are mainly high and dry, although we

still have a little bit of moisture in the mid and upper level atmosphere. neighborhood for the jersey shore a lot of people headed to the beach, upper township 83, wood bien 87, summers point 86 and may's landing currently 84. atlantic city also seeing mid 80s right now. satellite and radar image, a wider perspective, you can see there is some moisture just to the south of us and just to the north of us. and kind of just skirting our viewing area, but for the most part conditions are mainly dry. all you're going to see if you're looking at radar is just some return, some gray telling us we still have moisture left in the atmosphere. hour by hour forecast, again, winds coming out of the west notice as we do have some moisture skirting our area here. but nothing here locally. we get this into motion. i'm going to pause this by tomorrow. you'll start to see conditions really start to improve because everything is drying out, 9:00 a.m. and you just saw a little bit of green on the screen there. that's just kind of moving through mt. pocono.

sometimes these models pick up a lot of the moisture lingering throughout the atmosphere, still seeing mostly clear skies at 8:00 a.m. on monday in that westerly wind everything will be certainly very pleasant. now, the ten-day outlook looks like this. 86 for tomorrow. that's your expected high temperature. 81 on monday. but look at this, lots of sunshine on sunday and monday and tuesday. i do want to add we may see a passing sprinkle overnight monday into tuesday, being a little picky right there. temperatures dip into the 70s on tuesday. 83 on wednesday. and then lots of sunshine on thursday. then i'm tracking potential for some showers possibly isolated thunderstorms as temperatures climb into the 90s. 91 on friday and 90 on saturday. with the threat of isolated thunderstorms, but for the most part let's go ahead and enjoy the rest of today and tomorrow. back to you. >> sure will, erika, i know you're a fan of section of broad street now has a new name boyz ii men boulevard. the philadelphia trio helped unveil the new sign this morning. it happened in front of the school where they got their

>> on the diamond, break them up the phillies go for a third straight win tonight in arizona. they beat the best home team in baseball last night on the back of a strong start from mark tonight ben lively will follow up. he's 1-1, 3.33 e.r.a. in four major league starts. coverage begins at 9:30 tonight . >> thank you, danny. an update now on a developing story in lehigh county. police are evacuating homes in a development as they search for two people accused of shooting at officers. nbc 10 is live with the latest. where does that search stand right now, andrea? >> reporter: well, denise, just minutes ago the bomb squad from the city of allentown, they went in to this area again. they believe -- law enforcement believe a man and woman are barricaded inside of a home that does not belong to them. again, they are armed.
