we'll talk charlie puth in a second. let's start with the news coming out of the white house, including the wide-ranging condemnation of the twitter attack on mika and joe scarborough. we have coverage, starting with kristen welker. >> as a candidate, donald trump was known for making shocking statements on the campaign trial. now he's in the oval office, his tweet attacks take on new meaning. this morning, he referred to joe scarborough as psycho. the outburst, knock him off-message. but the sharpest words may be coming from the hosts themselves. this morning, joe scarborough and mika fired back at the president, writing, america's leaders and allies are asking themselves whether this man is fit to be president.

we have our doubt. it's disturbing that the president of the united states keeps up his assault on women. overnight, president trump hosting the president of south korea, but unable to escape the mounting firestorm taking aim at mika. the president calling her low i.q. crazy mika. and alleging that when she was mar-a-lago, she was bleeding badly from a face-lift. the co-host responding today. although it's no one's business, the president's attack against someone's look, reports that mika never had a face-lift. she had skin under her chin tweaked but this was hardly a state secret. democrats outraged. >> he should resign. >> it's so blatantly sexist. i don't know if there's a question about it. >> reporter: and even many republicans, who the president needs to carry out his agenda,

hor harder. the president will host a press conference with the korean leader but won't take any questions. despite the controversy, president trump is on twitter in morning, talking about the battle over health care. peter alexander has that story. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. this was supposed to be the week. as senators scatter to their home states for a recess, while their effort to overhaul obamacare is still unclear this morning. the president writing, if the republican senators are unable to pass what they're working on now they should immediately repeal and replace at a later date. after delaying a vote with divisions between moderates and conservativ conservatives, mitch mcconnell had set the goal of today to try to come up with a new plan to present to an independent budget

scorekeeper to be reviewed while the senators were gone so they could vote as early as next week. no word whether that will happen. also this morning, the white house is confirming that president trump next week, when he's at the g-20 summit will meet face-to-face with vladimir putin. it's not clear if president trump will confront his russian counterpart about meddling in the 2016 election, they have other topics to talk, ukraine and syria here. we are hearing from the russian foreign minister, sergey lavrov, saying he's optimistic. both are willing to overcome the abnormality that dominates our relations. >> thank you, peter. something else we're focusing on this morning is travel. today marks the start of the busy holiday weekend. it's the first full day that a scaled-back version of president

trump's travel ban is in effect. and how it's being carried out is leading to protest and confusion. nbc justice correspondent, pete williams, has more on that. what can you tell us? >> it's a matter of hours and the lawyers are back in court. they say the trump administration has limited who gets to apply for a visa to come here. and the government has made one change, fiancees now count. lawyers stood by at the l.a. airport, ready to respond to last-minute hitches, in case of a recurrence of the kin d of chaos, that followed the first executive order. anyone from one of the six muslim countries, who already has a visa, is being allowed to board a flight to the u.s. and enter the country upon arrival. but for the next 90 days, anyone from those countries who wants to get a visa, must have a close

family connection to someone already here. and the trump administration is defining that family connection narrowly a parent, child, in-laws, sibling, spouse or fiancee. that does not include grandparent, cousin, brother or sister-in-law. industry groups say the new rules will dampen business travelers and not just from the six affected countries. >> we don't know what other countries might get added to the ban. they're going to really question whether or not they want to do business in the u.s. >> reporter: the new rules mean a 120-day ban to refugees unless they have family here. that would have blocked mustafa who came to the u.s. two years ago as a refugee from syria's violent civil war. with no family in the u.s., he says he would have had no place to go. >> syrian people who want to come to the united states, those people need a new life.

an opportunity. they cannot stay in syria anymore. >> reporter: the challengers who got the executive order blocked this year are now asking a judge to rule that the government is being too restrictive about the kind of family relationships that count for getting a visa. a ruling could come next week. matt? sheinelle? >> pete williams in washington. thank you. for a look at the airports and the roads, let's check in with gabe gutierrez. he is keeping an eye on it all at hartsfield-jackson airport. >> reporter: a good morning. a little busy at check-in. but things are moving smoothly. 93,000 people are expected to go through tsa today. many thousands more are expected to connect. we look at flightaware.com's misery map, you see a lot of green. that's good news. no delays or cancellations. a record number of holiday travelers are expected this

weekend. most are expected to drive, 37.5 million. 3.5 million are expected to take to the skies. that's up almost 5% from last year. according to the folks over at waze.com, the traffic app, the best time to head out, you missed your chance if you were leaving today, that was before 7:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on saturday. monday, expected to be a good travel day. traffic is expected to be down ahead of the holiday. the worst time to travel, this afternoon between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. now, again, gas prices are expected to be at a 12-year low. airfares, 10% cheaper this year than last year. guys, get here early and have a good trip. >> between 2:00 and 5:00. >> pack your patience, as well. a lot more to get to, including an intense manhunt for a gunman who shot and killed a recent high school graduate in a suspected case of road rage in

pennsylvania. nbc's morgan radford is here with this. >> reporter: it's a sad story. when police alived another the crash scene. they thought it was a deadly accident. but authorities say a promisiin young woman's life was cut short because of road rage. and now, police in three states are hunting for the man who is responsible. 18-year-old bianca robinson was on her way home from a shopping trip. she was on highway 200, when two lanes merged to one. that's when she encountered a man in a red pickup truck. >> they were trying to merge together. and the man in the red pickup shot her in the red. >> reporter: her car careening off of the roads. police are searching for the red chevy pickup scene in this photo. and hunting the driver, believed

to be a white male with light-colored hair, between the ages of 30 and 40. >> to that man who fired the shot, turn yourself in now. every second you are out in there, you're only making this worse for yourself. >> reporter: the young victim's father, distraught, thinking about her final moments. >> i can visualize it in my mind, what happened to my daughter. >> reporter: bianca was headed to college in the hafall. >> we were excited for her. we were just happy for her. >> reporter: now, her family fighting back tears, remembering the life taken too soon. >> her personality was very loved. she always smiled. >> it's an angel that's going to be missed. but she's with her brother. >> reporter: the victim's older brother died of heart disease in 2013. police are calling this case a senseless and brutal act of violence. they say they will not rest until they find the suspect.

newly released video captures a minute that a san diego man and his daughters missing in baja, mexico, were rescued. they left on june 20th, but when they didn't return, help was called. a rescuer found them shivering on the rocks. morgan fox, along with his daughters, cried when they were found. they flashed some big smiles. all are said to be in good health. good ending there. >> it is. we talked about the traveling going on today and all of the people heading off for the holiday weekend. how is it going to be? happy with the weather or not happy with the weather? >> the eastern half of the country, in the beginning part of the weekend, not so much. but it's going to get better for everybody, as we move on into the holiday. as you can see right now, we've got some strong storms in the midsection of the country. we're looking at wet weather and

some strong storms, central pennsylvania into ohio. we have a wide swath of severe weather from albany to oklahoma city possible today. 37 million people at risk for wind damage and possible tornados in the plains. for tomorrow, western new york, interior sections of new england, and on into central pennsylvania. for 11 million people, the greatest risk for tornadoes, new york state and parts of northern new england. we're going to watch this very closely, as the system mupushes in. cold front moves in. scattered storms along the front. the heavier weather in the northeast, and down into the tennessee river valleys. by sunday, it moves offshore. drier hair moair moves in and l better. heavy rain into new england, with flash flood storms. and when you get into oklahoma, missouri and arkansas, three to

better education to our youth. >> reporter: but there are house rules. you have to be 21 or over. the potency of edibles are regulated. an you can only consume it in private places. also because it's still illegal on the federal level, you can't carry it across state lines. opponents are concerned about an increased of drugged driving. and they say those that live in nevada year-round are being forgotten. >> nobody wants a pot shop next to a school. >> reporter: but people say las vegas is a perfect place for marijuana. >> i think it's great because we have the best restaurants in the world. you can get high, medicate, and eat great food. >> reporter: california, mississippi and maine, have passed laws legalizing recreational marijuana. now, one of the big concerns, what happens to medical marijuana users?

7:30, now, on a friday morning. it's the 30th of june, 2017. we are headed into a long holiday weekend. and let us begin on this friday morning with a check of some of the headlines. just this morning, msnbc's mika brzezinski and joe scarborough are responding to president trump's controversial twitter attack against them. take a look. >> i'm fine. my family brought me up really tough. this is absolutely nothing, for me personally. but i am very concerned as to what this once again reveals about the president of the united states. it's strange. >> yeah, i think so. we had so many people saying, hope you're okay. hope you're okay. got calls and texts and e-mails. we're okay.

the country's not. >> he's so easily played by a cable news host. what is that saying to our allies? what is that saying to our enemies? >> the white house has defended the president's tweet saying he fights fire with fire. hot, dry weather is fueling a wave of wildfires in the west. 27 large ones are burning in 8 states. there's several states of emergency. in arizona, the governor says putting out a fire near prescot is the state's top priority. in california, people in east san jose used garden hoses to fight the flames of a brush fire closer to there. it was a rough start to the day for a st. louis couple. they return to a parking spot to find their car had been swallowed by a sink hole. at first, they thought the car had been toed. as they got closer, they found the car 20 feet below.

a crane was called in to lift the car out of that hole. >> that's a wrap for that car. now, to venus williams. she's found to be at-fault in a car accident in florida that led to the death of a 78-year-old man. this, just days before she's set to compete at wimbledon. tammy leitner has the latest. tammy, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, sheinelle. the accident happened three weeks ago today at that intersection behind me. we know venus williams lives in the area. and according to a police report, she was turning into the gated community when the accident happened. this morning, police saying tennis star venus williams at fault for an accident that killed a man. it happened at this palm beach gardens accident. >> vehicle accident. >> reporter: according to a newly released police report, 67-year-old linda barson had a green light when she says an suv

cut across in front of her and was unavoid able to avoid crash into her. her husband, jerome, was sent to a trauma center and died. in astatement from her attorney, she entered the intersection when it was green. she was forced to stop because of traffic, leaving her toyota suv sticking out in the intersection. according to the police report, williams was at fault for violating the right of way. she was not charged of any crime or issued any tickets at the accident. there's no evidence that williams was under the influence of chal and no evidence she was distracted by a cell phone, according to police. the tennis star is a seven-time grand slam champion and is the number ten seed at wimbledon, which starts on monday.

unreadable to prevent getting a ticket. do they work? >> violent crashes on camera. drivers smashing into oncoming traffic. red light runners hitting people, too. luckily, they're okay. to stop it from happening, cities across the country installing red light cameras. catching drivers in the act, fining them up to $700. officials say it works. fatalities from red light running dropped 21% in cities with cameras. but now, police are warning about new products on the market, designed to make your plate invisible to cameras. like this reflective jell, this spray and this sensor that shines light on to the plate so a camera can't see it. a lot of people will watch this and say, if these products work, i may want it. >> unfortunately, a result will be more t-bone accidents.
