we're just two hours away. it is all going downright here tonight. a big fireworks show and concert featuri featuri featuring mary j blige and boyz ii men. tonight's preconcert will feature the philly pops and you don't want to miss mandy gonzalez. she's killing it. you can hear her now. there's music for everyone at the concert kicking off at 7:00. and fireworks kick off at 9:30. know who has a better spot than us? tim furlong in about a half hour. we'll check with him. he's got all access pass behind the stage. behind the scenes. so he's there when the artists start to come in. first, back where i showed you those people, that's nbc 10 is

standing by now in the crowd as they line up to enter. what is it like where you are? >> reporter: well, there's a lot of people, for one, and we're getting a the lot of people gathering by us. look, this is my new friend tooerns here. she wants to say happy fourth of july. >> happy fourth of july! >> reporter: one thing people remarked about is how well everyone is dressed. how patriotic the kids are and their parents and how many of them are here along the parkway. where keith and tim are standing by getting ready for the big concert tonight. but some of the little ones, well, they were interested in a concert this afternoon. sure, there are games. >> i want this one. >> reporter: and food. lots of it. >> we're here for the kids bop concert. >> everywhere we turned kids on the parkway were looking for one thing. >> the kids! >> what do they do?

you have the right one go to nbc 10.com. you can check out that picture in great detail. it's the latest from sky force 10. to you in the studio. >> thank you. good to know. now to our first alert forecast. two words holiday heat. but we should cool off with scattereds this evening. a dip in the water was your best bet today. they're still doing a live look at camel beach water park. the hot weather didn't stop families from getting out and about on their bikes today. others grabbed the roller blades for a ride along kelley drive in philadelphia. glen "hurricane" schwartz is tracking the most accurate forecast for your neighborhood. and, glen, there's a chance of showers as we mentioned tonight been could the rain move in? where is it going to hit? >> it could get the philadelphia area. take probably at least a couple of hours. the action is creeping north ward through the state of delaware. the south jersey showers have totally disappeared.

but a couple of hours ago we didn't have anything north of -- well, not even up to dover. now we have some action getting up toward new castle county. now it's building toward middletown. we have heavy showers and storm near georgetown. it hasn't moved much. it's building to the north. so there isn't any one single movement out of this. if anything, the one in georgetown looks like it's building southward. there's what we found in south jersey, but some of the moisture from the delaware storm is coming over toward cape may. and so it's not a pretty evening there. there could be rain. there are more showers to the west that we're going to have to be tracking, too. and we also are concerned about the amount of rain we have

population turning out for independence day celebrations. this was the scene for the early celebration in the montgomery county community. the town leader said the celebration is legendary. the celebration kicks up later this evening lasts until 10:00 p.m. in south jersey, belmar celebrated the future. they started with a baby parade and followed by a bike parade and the independence parade later in the day. a major milestone for america's newest citizens. 47 people took the oath of allegiance today aboard the battle ship new jersey. together they represented 33 countries including bulgaria, costa rica, germany, and south africa. today nearly 15,000 people became u.s. citizens at fourth of july events across the country. still ahead pressure on the president as he plans a meeting

with vladimir putin. the cyber subject people are pushing president trump to bring up. new jersey is back in business and coming up the back up that still kept people from hitting their favorite spots. holiday fun on the fourth. wawa welcome america is a big production to pull off. the work that went into making it happen this year.

>> reporter: i'm keith jones live at wawa welcome america. thousands of people are trickling in to fill the white seats behind me. we have boyz ii men and mary j blige. a lot of work goes into putting something like this together. for eight years there's one organization chipping in and helping out in bringing this community together. that is wawa. it's my pleasure to bring in kathy pelosi. executive vice president of wawa. how exciting? >> why this is our eighth year. every year gets bigger and better. this year we started last thursday which was an amazing event at the national constitution center. over the weekend we have free admission for the residents of the city to come in and enjoy the best museums. we had an su awesome event. we're able to recognize our

a little bit of a sound check goes on behind me. sorry, hard to hear. back to you. >> all right, keith, thank you so much. we'll check in a bit. now to the weather. it is a hot one. but there's a chance of a stray shower this evening looking live at the blue cross landing where families out having fun. plenty of action in center city, as well. this is a live picture from the campus camera. so many free events in philly during a wawa welcome america festivity. of course, mary j blige are set to take the stage tonight for wawa welcome america. crowds starting to gather along the parkway nbc 10 meteorologist glen-"hurricane" schwartz is joining us. >> it may be a close call for the fireworks. the best chance for any showers moving into the area are probably between 7:00 and 9:00. and a chance goes down as we head toward fireworks time. one of the reasons here

everything is kind of building up to the northeast. that's where it was like around 1:00. the general area of showers and now it's up here. so it's making some kind of progress toward wilmington and philadelphia. meanwhile it's still storming in delaware around milford and also down by georgetown. getting pretty heavy rain. it's 2 to 3 inches per hour. and with the cells not moving much we're getting some floating in parts of delaware now. the storm started to move toward the northeast. we have some of these coming up toward the pennsylvania border. maryland. that's moving up to the northeast, too. so we're going watch these because the computer models are showing a general trend of development toward the philadelphia area as we go toward the 7:00 to 8:00 hour. fortunately we're not seeing much lightning with these

things. at least not so far. 88 degrees now but it's only in the 70s in central delaware and south jersey. the marina 74. the ocean temperature is 63 degrees. so it's pretty cool there. so at 6:00 it's at least partly sunny at 86 degrees. by the concert time 7:00 to 9:00 we have a chance of some showers and by 9:30 things should be quieting down. like i said, it's going to be a fairly close call here. the temperatures are fairly high. the humidity is fairly high. but then it's the fourth of july. lehigh valley looks the safest for any kind of showers. there could be some showers at part of the jersey shore down toward cape may as we head into the evening hours. then as we go into wednesday, it's cooler. we got wind coming in the ocean. the temperatures barely getting into the 80s and on thursday we're barely getting into the 80

degrees, too. because there's rain coming in here. some heavy rain at times. so over the next three days, we have 85 degrees wednesday. so we're not in for the 90s here. thursday looks like a wet day. friday looks wet, as well. and as you can see, the same story in lehigh valley. a high of only 75 degrees on thursday. the jersey shore staying in the 70s for a few days. because we're seeing that easterly wind. so it's going to be fairly cloudy at the shore the rest of the week and on the cooler side. >> keeping your kids safe on snap chat. the new warning for parents as a live location feature launches on the popular app. on this fourth of july, a reminder to leave the fireworks to the professionals. the warning from this teen who had his celebrations cut short with a trip to the emergency room.

it's been almost three weeks since a man opened fire at this baseball field in northern virginia. several republican congressmen were there to practice for an upcoming baseball game. five people were injured including house majority whip steve scalise. he remains in the hospital tonight after undergoing several

surgeries. today two capitals received top honors in washington, d.c. officer david bailey received the accommodation medal from the sons of lugs. the supervisor accepted the same award on behalf of officer crystal greener. she was unable to attend the ceremony. >> i'm honored to be here. thank you for the award. and thank you. i appreciate it. >> congressman ska let's is still in fair condition at med star washington hospital. tonight fireworks will lite the sky. but be careful. thousands of people are hurt in fireworks accidents every year. children are most common victims. look what happened to a teen in washington state. the 17-year-old has been in the hospital for ten days. he admits he was careless with some fireworks and right now he only has a pinky on his left-hand. his right hand is fractured. his chest and face are covered in shrapnel wounds.

>> i didn't know it was going to go off that fast. i knew i was doing something dangerous but didn't know it was going to go off that fast. i thought i would have two or three seconds to throw it. last week a police chief lost part of his arm in a fireworks accident. it's often called the world's largest running party. take a look. today thousands of people laced up their sneakers for the peach tree road race in atlanta. the runners braved hot and humid conditions for the race. really the only way to cool off just drench yourself in water. pour it on. the peach tree road race, by the way, is a july 4th tradition since 1970. forget the forks. these kids went face-first during a cherry pie eating contest. the rules are simple. no hands. napkins are optional and probably totally impractical. the contest is part of the national cherry festival that runs through the weekend. from the suburbs to the

nbc 10 first alert meteorologist glen "hurricane" schwartz joins us now. you're tracking the chance of scattered thunderstorms tonight. >> kbre. for the philadelphia area and in delaware they've been getting it for several hours now. and not a whole lot of movement. and so there's some localized flooding there. this is the area that would be the potential threat to philadelphia area. it's gradually making its way in our direction. a lot of stuff in delaware is just not moving much at all. and as you can see, between dover and down to georgetown we had one go through. that move moving toward the east. and one in georgetown just south of georgetown not moving at all over the last couple of hours. and the reason you saw the darkness in cape may, yeah, the rain is on its way in there. not necessarily heavy rain but this is the area, again, we'll be watching over the next couple of hours.

to merge from two lanes into one on route 100 in west ocean township. the suspected shooter turned himself into police on sunday. wilmington police are trying to find out who shot a 15-year-old boy several times early this morning. the teenager said he was shot while he was on east ninth street around 1:30 this morning. he was shot in his legs. right now he's in stable condition. new at 5:30 one man is dead in bucks county after drowning washington crossing state park. police pulled the man's body out of the water today after he went under while he was swimming. officers rushed to the scene around 1:15 this afternoon. they found the body about 90 minutes later. the man has not been identified yet. police tell us he lives in philadelphia. your kids could be sharing their location in real time. what you need to know about a new feature on a popular app. the budget sbattle over in new jersey. things aren't running smoothly

celebration. neighborhood children got to ride their bicycle in the parade. bucks county, star spangled celebration in lower southhampton township. it included performs by the philadelphia eagles pet band. local fire departments and a colorful array of floats were part of the pageantry. we head to delaware county. residents enjoyed live music and water slides and pony rides. that part of the celebration ran until 12:00 this afternoon. after wards there was a carnival. fireworks are planned at dusk. down the shore in cape may county plenty of fireworks showing happening tonight. what better way to celebrate the fourth than watching fireworks on the beach. 9:15 negs 05 and and 10:00 in wildwood. the holiday weekend isn't completely over in new jersey. >> yeah. the slow down state parks even after a state budget agreement was finally reached.

weekends of the year was in full swing. sparking controversy new jersey governor chris christie manage soak up the state park that was closed during the budget battle. he isn't apologizing for the beach trip. now that the shut down is over. some say the damage from a stalemate is already done. >> nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg spoke with folks about the budget battle and how it impacted their holiday plans. >> reporter: bass river state forest back in business. >> exciting. dieing to get here. >> reporter: cars lined up to get in this morning. its attraction and others open again after visitors were kept away for the first three days of the holiday weekend because of new jersey's government shut down. the impasse ending overnight when governor christie signed off on a budget deal with lawmakers. >> i think it's amazing. there's a lot of kids they're looking forward to this.

and market street. rather, this is on broad street. a lot of folks out and about shopping, and strolling enjoying the free events. good thing. we may have a scattered shower rolling through. this is a live look at first alert radar. you can see a little bit of activity out there. and glen, "hurricane" schwartz here. >> what can we expect for tonight? >> as much as any other night depends on where you are. because if you're north of philadelphia area, no real threat of rain. in parts of delaware you already had so much rain and gotten some flooding. some parts of the jersey shore like cape may get rain while other parts of the jersey shore perfectly clear. let's see what we've got. the trouble has been in delaware. and fortunately this cluster of showers and storms in the middl of the state -- the one down by georgetown is weakening.

but it still not quite there. this is the area we were talking about earlier. and especially this little storm. that's the most intense one on the radar now. it's finally starting to move. but it's moving right in the direction of philadelphia. if continues the track it will be 7:35 in chester. a little after 8:00 in philadelphia. 8:30 in cherry hill. this is a small cell. we'll see if it develops into anything else or helps create others. it's notally a loaded radar map. there's not a lot of lightning on it. but the future weather models continue to show the development and movement in the general direction of philadelphia and wilmington. from redding north ward still no indication of anything. but there we are at 9:00 and this is the latest model. it updates every single hour.

and over the last couple of hours it's had more and more of a suggestion of at least some rain by fireworks time. and 88 degrees right now. philadelphia a fair amount of sunshine. look at the sunshine in the lehigh valley. it's upper 80s across the region and philadelphia itself, well, frankly, we're having the big parties tonight. we have temperatures 87 in society hill. it's hot. 92 in richmond. of course. it's fourth of july. the record high for today, by the way, 103. can you imagine how hot that would be? here is the party. okay at 6:00. but 7:00 to 8:00 and even to 9:00 we could see a shower or maybe even a thunderstorms and we're sticking with the lack of
