roberson was shot and killed in an apparent road rage case. the driver was arrested this weekend. lauren, i spoke with a therapist. >> reporter: she says usually people don't come in just for road rage, but anger issues in general, and then as they are talking, they or a spouse, they tell her what happened when they get behind the wheel. a busy road and an encounter with other drivers can bring it out. road rage. have you been in situations on the roads where, you know, you feel like somebody is getting too aggressive? >> absolutely. i get to a place where i just let them have their way. it's not worst a tragedy. >> reporter: a dangerous situation turned deadly last month when authorities say a 28-year-old man wouldn't give way to a teenager merging, and

shot her. arlene foreman is a mental health counselor whose specialties include anger management. she showed us what we could see on the road, what's happening to a driver or anyone getting angry. >> you see the brain is quiet, but it's starting to light up. you see that. he's mad. >> reporter: it makes it harder, she says, to process information, so she teaches clients, sometimes referred to by a court or a spouse, this. >> you tell yourself i'm someone who has a tendency to road rage, and you practice breaths, short breath in long, slow breath out. >> reporter: it calms down the driver's adrenaline. while she says road rage tend to happen with people with a short fuse, it doesn't mean everyone who knows that person will see it. >> they're in a car by themselves, and there's some kind of an odd kind of power

that people get in their own car, and something sets them off. >> reporter: she says the breathing exercises and other tactics she teaches her clients, they work, but she is also dealing with people who are coming in wanting to deal with anger issues. that is very different than someone who doesn't. live, i'm lauren mayk, nbc 10 news. a man will stand trial fo second time for the death of his 3-year-old son. today the judge set a september date. the judge declared a mistrial in the original trial back in may when jurors failed to reach a verdict on murder charges. prosecutors say he killed his son brendan in october of 2015, because he was worried his teenage girlfriend was going to leave him. a violent night in philadelphia led to at least one man debt after four separate shootings. officers found the first shooting victim just after 2:00.

they rushed him to temple hospital. witnesses say they saw two men running from the scene, but so far police have not made an arrest. another man was shot in eastern germantown. witnesses were on walnut lane at the time of that shooting, the gunman got away, police are also investigating overnight shoots. family and friends are paying final respects to a marine veteran who decided outside a bar while trying to break up a robbery. howard white had just returned home after serving in the middle east. he was shot and killed last thursday morning outside the green parrot tancvern on north fifth street. unprovoked attack, that's what police are say. police say 48yards miosoti

lifeguard attacked, a force turns serious. infamous beach, the backlash. a tight end like you have never seen before. good evening, fourth of july celebrations turned violent. we're hearing the ocean city lifeguards frantically calling for backups.

ted greenberg joins us live. you talked to witnesses who saw the whole thing? >> reporter: that's right. ocean city is a dry town with a zero-tolerance policy for drinking alcohol on the beach, but when lifeguards and police tried to enforce the policy, the situation got physical. ocean city lifeguards intently watching the water. a day after police say the beach patrol members were attacked on duty. the guards heard urgently calling for help from police around 4:30 p.m. on the fourth of july. >> it's sickening. it really is. >> reporter: the drama unfolding in front of the hundreds on people. authorities say it started when the guards asked a group of rowdy seemingly drunk men to calm down.
