ing. now the rain is about to get more intense. good evening, i'm jacqueline london. >> and i'm jim rosenfield. you can see the system hovering over us on the radar there. it's not letting up any time soon. the rain is making the commute home kind of tricky tonight. a live look in wilmington. >> the phillies game is now delayed. they have a fireworks show set for this evening. a live look at citizens park and the very wet scene there right now. let's bring in meteorologist glenn schwartz. time this rain out for us. >> it's going to be off and on in parts of the area. but some places are getting hit hard. delaware has really gotten it today. look at this area coming up from south. it is just racing up from the shore up toward the philadelphia area. so we have light rain here now. this is going to increase it. you can see in delaware we continue to have areas of heavy

sleeping in bed. the infant needed the. antidote to save her life. close to where paramedics found that baby. what are you learning about that. >> when police arrived, they found that young girl just 9 months old with a hypodermic needle sticking out of her leg. it happened here at this home. the young girl actually overdosed and now neighbors are telling me this is another sign that the overdose. epidemic is threatening young children. baby toys are left on the porch outside this home on green lane, but inside something much more dangerous. a 9 moelds girl lying down rolled over and was pricked by a needle laced with drugs. >> that's crazy. i really don't know what to say. >> reporter: police say she

overdosed. >> a lot of people are overdosing. it's drug typically used to revive adult heroin and opioid addicts. police arrested 35-year-old steven welsh who lives in the house. >> he's a great father. he's a good man. >> reporter: his friends say it comes as a complete surprise. >> he's always with his daughter. >> reporter: inkrooesingly it's children on the front lines of the overdose epidemic. arlene knows the suspect's family and had her own close call last year. she says her granddaughter accidentally ingested prescription pills. >> the drugs are out here and it's sad because a lot of times the children suffer. >> reporter: that baby was taken last night to chestnut hill hospital in stable condition. in the meantime, the 34-year-old

second. >> tonight philadelphia arguing it's not breaking federal immigration laws, but the trump administration is reviewing whether that's true. today the justice department said it's analyzing responses from philadelphia and nine other sanctuary cities. cities have to proof they are comelying with the law or risk losing federal grants. the attorney general said sanctuary cities put lives at risk by shielding criminals from immigration authorities. >> pennsylvania and delaware are suing the secretary over student loans you might owe. the attorneys general of those two states join ed an 18-state lawsuit filed today against betsy devos. the suit challenges a move by the education department to freeze new rules. the rules created by the obama administration would erase the debt of borrowers who were cheated by a for profit school.

here. >> it's going to take until saturday night until we're finished with all of this. we have this one line in new jersey towards tld. we have another line sitting off the del mar. that's coming up toward the shore. eventually into the philadelphia area. this is down to dover. middletown has had some flooding. we're still getting heavy rain there. but the area is shrinking. that's well over 2 to 3 inches of rain. we have estimated over 4.5 and in some places close to 6 inches of rain on the latest report.

again, this is between middletown and we have had had reports of flooding out there. plenty of moisture back to the west that may be moving in. we may see breaks tonight, although we have drizzle and low clouds. it's not exactly bringing fun tr the tillies trying to have fireworks. so you have two problems there for the phillies tonight. 74 degrees right now. you can see the tops of the buildings cut off by the low clouds. the high today was only 75. and through the night we have some models indicate iing thing quieting down when we have waves of heavier rain moving in. tomorrow morning's rush is likely to be wet. we're going to have more showers developing during the day. these are warmer showers. it's not going to be in the low 70s tomorrow afternoon.

it's going to be well into the 80s. but then more showers and maybe thunderstorms come through. it looks like saturday starts off nice and then we may have some showers developing during the afternoon. sunday is spectacular. put on a show in the taste of summer league action. why hen won't retake the course this evening. the phillies try a top prospect in a different ogs. that's next in sports.

sixers fan its got their first glimpse of what fauk can do. his participation in the utah summer league came to a close. he will sill out tonight's contest against the spurs. he showed considerable improvement scoring a a team high 23 points including 13 of those this the fourth quarter alone. he's expect canned to take part in the las vegas summer league as the sixers first action comes saturday night at 10:30 against the warriors. the moratorium on signing free agents passed a the noon today, no word on the sixers and jj reading. the sixers and is reddick agreed on a one-year deal on july 1st. the deals should be con tirmed over the next few days. now to baseball. they are looking to salvage a series against the pittsburgh pirates.

today was kevin hart day. we secelebrated in his hometown. philadelphia gave him a gift to remember. city leaders unveiled this mural in his honor. it's on the building that houses max's steaks in north philly. he called today one of the greatest honors in his career. >> clearly getting a kick out of it there. and on his birthday. the mural is awesome. >> really life like. >> it really does. it's nice to have people in the town and guys shorter than me. e extra points for that. >> and didn't get rained on. >> they are getting rained on tonight. the phillies are trying to play with some rain and very low clouds around. more rain spinning in tr the night tonight. and more coming in tomorrow. but it's not an all-day thing. and saturday just a shower. sunday is gorgeous.
