>> >> breaking news at 11:00. a home in connection with missing people. a woman is dead after a car crashed into this spca shelter where animals were also killed. and western wildfires. right now at least 50 wildfires are ripping through communities, leaving neighbors in the path of deadly danger. breaking news in bucks county where police are investigating reports of missing people. right now, that investigation is focused on this township. police just reopened some roads near route 202 which were closed because of the investigation earlier tonight. middletown township police, newtown township police, state police and the bucks county

district attorney's office are all involved in this investigation. we know two of the people they are searching for are these teenagers. jimmy patrick of newtown township went missing on wednesday. he's on the left. and police say he has not contacted family or friends and has not been to work which is unusual. police are also searching for 18-year-old james from lang horn. he's on the right. he was last seen getting into a car on friday night. burlington county prosecutors are investigating an apparent home invasion that left one man dead. the homeowner called police saying two men broke in and admitted to stabbing them. >> reporter: denise, i want to show you this house. it's pretty isolated, surrounded by trees. the only people who know exactly what happened here are the men who were inside and detectives are still trying to figure it out tonight.

multiple agencies responded to this home in the 700 block of hartford road. the homeowner called 911 saying two men broke in. there was a struggle and the homeowner stabbed both men. when authorities aarrived, one was dead. >> just shocked and saddened. you know, it's very sad that it happened. >> reporter: the man stabbed to death was jimmy dool. for an hour, 75 family and friends gathered and painted a different picture. >> he's never done anything like that before, and he -- i don't think that would have been his intentions. moip decemb >> reporter: prosecutors continue to investigate. at this hour no charges have been filed.

animals. some of the rescued animals are now in the organization's westchester location. they're hoping for a surge in adoptions to make room for these extra pets. workers at the shelter are praising residents who helped rescue animals from the fire. >> everyone started moving into the mode of saving the animals, the neighbors came out and were welcoming the animals into their vehicles, into their homes. we had first responders putting dogs into ambulances. >> police are trying to figure out what happened to the driver, 33-year-old latoyia cooper. members of her family joined in an emotional prayer at the shelter this afternoon. members of the penn state fraternity who faced charges in the death of a student are due in court tomorrow. tomorrow's hearing will allow the prosecution to finish laying out its case. timothy piaza died in february. his blood-alcohol four times the legal limit. he tumbled downstairs during a

party. no one called for help until 12 hours later. 18 fraternity brothers face charges. fare collection charges starting tomorrow for five stations in philadelphia. the changes will be for afternoon and evening riders during the week at temple, jefferson, suburban, 30th street and university city stations. so here's what's different. ticket also be punched at the stairways to the platforms. then you get your ticket back. you then give your punched ticket to the conductor on the train. those changes are nothing compared to what you can expect at penn state in new york. tomorrow begins what governor andrew cuomo calls the summer of hell. emergency repairs start tomorrow. amtrak and new jersey transit trains will be impacted. expect delays longer than 30 minutes for the next two months. the $40 million worth of repairs

are expected to be complete by september. philadelphia police say a group of kids swimming in a pool are lucky to be alive tonight after a man was shot four times just feet away from them. the inflatable pool was set up on a sidewalk in kensington. parents and kids were able to tell police what they saw. right around 4:00 this afternoon, a man was on his bike at the corner of atlantic and jasper street when someone shot him four times. >> these poor children trying to have a nice time on this summer afternoon in a pool, and within four, five feet of them, there was a male being shot. thank god none of the children were struck. >> right now, police are searching for a motive. they're looking at surveillance video. police took the victim to the hospital, but he is being uncooperative. pennsylvania lawmakers are working throughout the weekend to try to figure out how to pay for the state budget. a deal needs to be made by

tomorrow at midnight. and both the house and senate need to find a way to raise more than $2 billion in new revenue. options for bringing in money include expanding gambling laws, borrowing more than $1 billion, and a possible tax increase. president trump says it's time to move forward in working with russia. days after his behind closed doors meeting with president vladamir putin. the president also sent out another message just hours ago on social media saying the fact that president putin and i discussed a cyber security unit doesn't mean i think it can happen. it can't, but a cease-fire can and did. that last part is in reference to the cease-fire in syria. that tweet came after the president's return from the g-20 summit where he unleashed a series of tweets on russia today. the president said, i strongly pressed president putin twice about russian meddling in our election and he denied it.

president trump added he and putin even discussed forming a cyber security unit to prevent election hacking before sending out that tweet. >> not the dumbest idea i've ever heard, but it's pretty close. >> i am sure that vladamir putin could be of enormous assistance in that effort, since he's doing the hacking. >> the new york times is reporting donald, jr., jared kushner, and paul manafort held a meeting at trump tower a russian lawer with ties to the kremlin in june of 2016. pennsylvania u.s. congressman is vowing to introduce legislation that would prohibit president trump from working with russia on cyber security. representative brendan boyle was part of the american delegation attending the summit in germany. he joins bipartisan criticism of president trump's tweets this morning. >> it is bizarre. the president's idea that we would somehow do a joint cyber

security unit with russia is a little like doing a joint anti-terrorism unit with isis. >> the cia, national security agency, and the fbi agree that russia and vladamir putin specifically meddled in the u.s. election. a spike in gun violence continued to rise today when a person was shot around 3:30. police say the suspect was almost immediately taken into custody. no word on the identity of the victim. a car crashed into this montgomery county duncan donuts overnight. fortunately the store was closed at the time. the passenger in the car told police he tried to direct the driver to swerve from hitting something and they crashed. no one was hurt. around 6:00 tonight, a transmission line went down at

oyster creek substation. residents lost their power. it took about four hours for that power to be restored. a surprise for swimmers in parts of north wildwood today. this is video from tim burton, a director here at nbc 10. he was on the beach near 2nd avenue when a sailboat started heading straight for a jetty. the boat missed the jetty and ran aground. >> i think they were inside, underneath. they weren't outside. so they ran aground and they came out. then he tried to -- someone told him to put the sail down and he did. >> a pan and woman inside the boat were helped to shore. police were called, but it's not clear whether the couple faces any charges. next on "nbc 10 news," the west is burning, and right now dozens of wildfires are moving

another step in his recovery from a shooting. a spokes person says the 6-year-old has been moved from the pediatric icu into a rehab facility. he was shot while riding in a war with his mother last month. police are still searching for the suspect. after nine months of fighting, mosul is in the hands of the iraqi government. the iraqi prime minister had declared the city liberated from isis. he met with his key military officials today in mosul and congratulated soldiers on a "great victory." backed by the u.s.-led coalition, iraq launched the operation to retake mosul in october. mosul is iraq's second largest city and has been under isis control since june of 2014. from california to canada, wildfires are sweeping across the west. the flames are being fueled by searing temperatures. in santa barbara, this fire devoured nearly 8,000 acred and burned a school to the ground.

the alamo fire is so dangerous, crews have been forced to fight the flames from the air. six people have been hurt. >> doing our best to get an upper hand, but we have a lot to contend with, with the weather. and the fuels that are out there very dry, so a long road ahead of us. >> nearly 200 fires are also burning in british columbia. parents in southern california gave a sigh of relief after being reunited with their children who almost got caught in a wildfire's path. the fire got a little too close to a group of overnight campers in santa barbara county. about 90 children were stuck and had to wait to be rescued. there was a break in the bloom. near santa barbara, take a look

at this rainbow above the smoke and flames. as much as we try to teach our children that everyone is equal, new research shows that young girls do not believe they're as smart as the boys. a psychologist and princeton philosopher studied 400 boys and girls ages 5 to 7. they wanted to see if the children identified smartness more with men or with women. and they found boys almost always chose men, no matter the age. girls age 5 mostly chose women. but the 6 and 7-year-old women mostly chose men. the big question is why? >> why? >> i think it's not a question that has a single answer. kids soak up social information around them. they get cues from parents, from teachers, other children, the media. little kids track these sorts of cues and it forms their beliefs. >> the researchers say it's time to shift the message. tell your young kids it's not so

much about being smart but putting in the effort, energy, dedication, and hard work that's most important. new hope for the parents of a terminally ill little boy in britain. tomorrow, the fight to bring 11-month-old charlie gard to the u.s. returns to court. he has a rare genetic condition and cannot move or breathe without help. last week, a court ruled in favor of the hospital to keep charlie in britain. that ruling gained international attention. since then, two hospitals outside the uk have offered to help charlie. now the hospital's request and the case is going back to court. >> so to take our son from one hospital, where they do a lot of specialties there, and it's a fantastic hospital. unfortunately, they're not specialists in charlie's condition. the specialists are in america, where we want to go. >> last week, the pope expressed support for charlie's family. and president trump tweeted that if the u.s. can help, it will.

i'm drew smith, "nbc 10 news." president trump calls them bad people when he talks about illegal immigrants committing crimes in the u.s. and usually points to members of the ms-13 gang. he claims his administration is kicking them out. our partners at factcheck.org say the president is exaggerating the figures. >> ms-13 is a prime target. bad people. >> reporter: during a meeting with relatives of people killed by undocumented immigrants, president donald trump points to the ms-13 gang, a group formed in the '80s in los angeles by immigrants from el salvador. there are believed to be 10,000 members across the u.s., and the gang is no longer exclusively made up of those from el salvador. the gang is high profile and has become a so-called poster child of the trump administration's efforts to remove undocumented immigrants believed to be

right now, the battle is heating up of critics and supporters of philadelphia's charter schools. nbc went inside one school that shows the good and the bad. this is boy's latin school of philadelphia. 90% of the students have gone on to college. the admission is by lottery, and free for any student who gets into this publicly funded school. but the success of schools like

country are in town this week for a conference. and this was a competitive eat and run event. at the halfway mark, participants stopped and ate a pint of vanilla ice cream. that was part of the requirements. they had to eat the entire pint before they could finish the second leg of the run. nbc 10 in medford where some olympic hopefuls worked on their track and field skills this weekend. vertical adventures hosted the two-day camp. and if arts and crafts are more your thing, haddenfield was the place to be. the festival just wrapped up, and more than 250 vendors took part in the festival. a bear cub rescued in a sticky situation in california. this little cub had his head stuck in a jug.

one officer held the cub while a game warden removed the jug. once free, it ran off to the nearest tree. a man intent on asking his girlfriend to marry him had to ask for help from the police officers arresting him. on tuesday, oklahoma police finally caught up with this guy who had six warrants for his arrest. but he was planning to propose that day. police body camera video shows the officer removing the handcuffs from the back to his front so he could put the ring on her finger and she did say yes. a scary scene on a south carolina highway after a man heeds police on a high speed chase with a baby inside his car. police say the driver traveled speeds up to 90 miles per hour. the chase ended when the car he was driving flipped on its roof. that's when police say the driver tried to fight them with the baby in his hands. the baby is in the hospital but

expected to be okay. president trump's eldest son met with a kremlin linked attorney shortly after his father clinched the gop nomination. now, everything is high and dry. this is why it's such a great night tonight. very comfortable conditions, not very muggy at all. but a wider perspective. we can see some moisture, some showers to the northwest. it will effect us, i do think we'll see one or two scattered showers moving through. i will time that out for you hour by hour. starting us at 11:30 p.m., we'll pause by tomorrow, 5:00 p.m., seeing a couple of dots here. this is one model. i do think we will see a couple of scattered showers. keep the umbrella handy, because you'll need them for a lot of the week. we will see rounds of showers and thunderstorms. 2:00 p.m. on tuesday. i want to show you a couple of chances of showers and thunderstorms here, especially likely for tuesday afternoon. so again, keep the umbrellas handy. here is your ten-day on 10. 88 degrees on monday, 94 on tuesday. here is where the heat wave starts. 91 on wednesday, a chance of showers later in the day.

they all missed their first season after being drafted because of injuries. embead missed two. this does not appear to be a serious injury for fultz. x-rays were negative. he's been diagnosed with a lateral sprain. he should be able to resume basketball activities in a week or two. here's how he described what happened on the play. >> i was so focussed on trying to get that block, when it first happened, i didn't think or hear anything. but i came down, i was just like, i didn't look at it. it just hurt so bad. i was like man, i need to get up. but i met with the trainers and everything, i knew it was going to be. >> what kind of treatment? >> a lot of ice, just keep moving it so it don't get stiff. >> and fultz helping out his team during the pregame warmups. last year's number one pick ben simmons rocking the soccer jersey, also there. first quarter, jonah baldwin
