water. but the weekend is looking brighter. nbc 10 news starts now. for the last nine days, a murder mystery has devastated four families and taken over a bucks county community. but tonight we have the final pieces of this puzzle. good evening, i'm jacqueline london. >> and i'm jim rosenfield. today police confirmed a second person was involved in the killing spree. both are charged with murder. those arrests led to two other key answers. the murder weapons, which police say were found at his home, and the whereabouts of the final victim, jimi patrick. >> so with those final pieces in place, the questions that people have been asking all over the country have been answered. let's start with who. cosmos dinardo and sean kratz charged with murder. it appears none of the victims knew their alleged killers

socially. but dinardo says all four men were going to buy drugs from him. >> we're not here to make moral judgments on any of their actions. we're here to accomplish two goals. and that was to bring these young men home to their loved ones who have done nothing wrong, have done nothing to deserve this horrible, unspeakable tragedy that has been beset upon them. >> now, what happened, where and when? jimi patrick was the first victim. he was killed july 5th. dean finocchiaro, tom meo and margin sturgis, two days later. all men shot and buried on a family farm in solebury township. it took dinardo's confession to find the remains. >> i'm going to estimate it was between a quarter and a half a mile. it was described to us as being on up on top of a mountain. and we found him. we found him where we were told we were going to find him and i don't know if we would have

ever. >> and finally, why. >> i'm not sure we can answer that question. >> we may never know what led from alleged drug dealing to four murders. but investigators hope the victims' families have all the answers they need. >> we brought four young men one step closer to their loved ones, and so that they can rest in peace. >> so with all these questions answered, what happens next? >> despite cosmos dinardo's confession, both suspects still have to go through several court proceedings, and that began today at the bucks county courthouse. the judge denied bail for both suspects, and ordered they be kept in different jails, because dinardo confessed, prosecutors agreed not to seek the death penalty. but they said that's still a possibility for sean kratz. and the name cosmos dinardo has been associated with this case sense monday. >> but the name sean kratz didn't appear until today. now we're learning more about the man neighbors describe as both charming and troubled.

nbc 10 has new details. >> reporter: jacqueline and jim, i have a stack of court documents here that show that sean kratz was out on bail in a pair of burglary cases at the time of these new murder charges. but neighbors who have interacted with him here in the northeast part of the city say he was a nightmare to deal with up until the point he got shot six times just a few months ago a couple blocks away. when detectives showed up last night, amanda stankwits was surprised to hear the name sean kratz. >> very urgent. we've got to find him. >> reporter: she thought he might have died after a recent shooting. but before that, he was always around. >> and that's how he would sort of sneak around here. >> reporter: she would end up calling the cops on him. and she wasn't the only one. >> he started stealing lawn equipment, and there were other things missing, like the girlfriend's dog. >> reporter: only a dog came to the door at the home where kratz says he grew up. later there was a note saying there will be no comment here. investigators also searched

another property in montgomery county connected to kratz. court records say a camera caught him stealing from a shed. >> i think one crime leads to another one. >> reporter: then in february of this year, investigators say he went after the woman who turned him in, stealing her jewelry. another woman who didn't want her face on tv went to northeast high school with kratz. she says on the outside he was charming. >> i really didn't know that he was capable of killing people at all. just because of the person he was. he was actually kind. >> reporter: stankwits agrees he had a way with people, but it was his behavior, she says, that showed what he was capable of. >> oh, god, he should have been in jail a long time ago. >> reporter: and today in court, kratz did tell the judge about his recent medical history with the gunshot wound, saying he couldn't really support himself on his left leg. but prosecutors still say he had an active role in these murders, and the coverup. we're live, i'm drew smith, nbc 10 news. and right now on nbc 10.com,

we posted more about what we have learned about the suspects, including dinardo's past history of mental illness. and coming up, how cadaver dogs played a key role in this case and what the people in the community are thinking now that this investigation is nearly coming to a close. now to your first alert weather. the rain came down so fast today, it trapped drivers right in the middle of the street. check out this video from chris in bridgeton cumberland county. you can see cars halfway under water. we're told everyone got out safely. >> here's a better look at how that happened. don took this video as the rain came down hard in bridgeton. you can see the wind is even blowing it sideways. >> and something else people saw a lot of today. lightning. micha michael captured several lightning strikes in ocean city saying one hit a telephone pole. and after a stormy evening, the

skies are starting to clear up. >> let's get an update on your neighborhood forecast with tammy susan. >> nice to see the skies clear out there. we have a few sprinkles left, but this is a time lapse from 1:00 this afternoon. i'll let it go through one more time. and you can see what came through. very, very heavy rain. and, again, just like yesterday, where we saw the rain going over the same spots north and west of the city, well, it was generally across chester county, delaware and south jersey we saw the heaviest rainfall. at this point, things are quieting down. we just have a few spotty showers headed toward the lehigh valley, perhaps the southern poconos, toward wilmington, a few sprinkles. but this is certainly not heavy rain for you. so at this point, we're just kind of looking back, where did the heavy rainfall? well, we saw a little bit of it early up here near the lehigh valley in berks county. this is where we really saw the bulls-eye of rain. and if you look up here, anywhere from 3 to 5 inches falling across parts of southern jersey.

so it definitely explains why we saw all of the flooding. here are the damage reports that we saw across the area. wind, we saw trees snap, we saw flooding, we saw lightning. here's a couple of the unusual ones. some of the trees right here, we had damage to car windows from trees and hail. here we had 1-inch hail that fell in south jersey, and here we had a lightning strike. it struck a car which caught on fire. we have quieted down, but now we're looking toward the weekend. so come on back. i think i'll put a smile on your face with the forecast, guys. now, a case of road rage that left a car damaged and a mother in fear. >> a woman told us tonight one minute she was driving down the street, the next she was doing everything she could to protect herself and her son. >> he was beeping his horn and he was, like, out of his -- opening his door and yelling out his windows. >> reporter: zita ledbetter says she was assaulted by a man on the street after he didn't think she was driving fast enough. her friend recorded video of him

following as they say he honked numerous times, then followed for blocks before ramming his car into the back of hers. and getting out at a stop sign in the 6500 block of cobbs creek parkway. >> when i was getting out of the car, he was like, yeah, i want you to get out of the car so i can "f" you up. so i immediately get back in my car and my friend said -- i was shutting the door, and he opened the door and he just started swinging on me. like really, like -- swinging. so i had my arms like this to protect myself from him even hitting me. and i was like, stop. i was like, stop. i was like, my son is in the car! he was like, i don't give a "f." he looked in the car, and he literally -- i swear to you. he literally looked at my son, and he punched the back of my window. >> reporter: pictures taken after the incident show glass shattered all over the back seat and all over her son. she was able to snap a picture of the man she says is

responsible and get the license plate of that vehicle. she says her son is her number one priority. she just wants the man caught and for him to pay for what he did. >> and i really just want justice. not only for me, but for my son. >> police tell nbc 10 they are investigating the incident and trying to find the man responsible. other "news now." a person called police after hearing a woman screaming last night and now south jersey police investigating a murder. police say the 29-year-old woman was found behind a strip mall on pemberton browns mills road around 8:30 last night. she had cuts on her body. an autopsy was being performed today and no arrests have been made. a berks county high school teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student in his class. daniel hornberger teaches at schuylkill valley high school in lease port. police say he and the female student met after school on several occasions from march to last month. hornberger surrendered this

morning. a new turn in the russia investigation. we're now learning donald trump jr. met with two russians in a secret meeting last year. that other person was a russian-american lobbyist who once worked as a soviet intelligence officer. now there is growing scrutiny on presidential son-in-law jared kushner, the only other person inside the meeting who currently works inside the white house. >> this provides yet another conduit back to the kremlin that the trump campaign would eagerly accept the help of the russian government. >> president trump meantime is back home from france, but not back in washington. landing instead in new jersey, where he will spend the weekend at his golf club. back to the killing spree investigation. it takes over a bucks county community. >> next, neighbors tell us what they're thinking now that the investigation is coming to a close. plus, cadaver dogs were crucial in finding the victims' remains. next, the science behind what these dogs can do. and a bride-to-be's worst

hurry in, only at mcdonald's. ♪ it is the killing spree that gripped bucks county and people around the country. tonight, two people are facing murder charges. >> now that the investigation is coming to a close, there's a hint of relief for the community at the center of this murder mystery. nbc 10's brendan hudson has that part of the story. >> this case had people on the edge of their seats. they constantly checked their social media and turned to news updates into must-see tv. never in their lifetime did they think bucks county would be a backdrop for such a bizarre murder mystery. >> knowing it was just down the road and places i pass every day was a lit frightening, especially when the case was still open and you didn't know what was going on. >> i'm 19. kids my own age this happening to, it's hard to believe. >> reporter: the story tugged on

almost everyone's heart strings. a mother of teenaged children said she had a talk with them as the news spread. >> my son wanted to go out late the other night and take a walk, and i went with him. because i just was a little apprehensive about letting him go by himself. >> reporter: this destination shopping plaza is where mark sturgis left his car. it was down the street from a dinardo family home. one of i aye wealth of clues investigators say later died cosmo dinardo to the deaths of sturgis, dean finocchiaro, jimi patrick and tom meo. >> it was with your help, your assistance, to keep the call alive, keep the tips coming, that enabled us to act so swiftly. >> reporter: as district attorney matt weintraub thanked the community for helping to close this murder case, it was a bittersweet feeling for people who watched it unfold. >> hearing the d.a. announcing that he's bringing closure to the families, it was really

relieving to know. >> it's heart breaking, either way you look at it. >> reporter: in buckingham township, i'm brandon hudson, nbc 10 news. >> you heard the district attorney thanking the public for their help. >> today he also took the time to praise the search crews who spent five straight days looking for the victims' remains at the dinardo family farm in solebury township, a property that spans 90 acres. and police cadaver k-9s also key in the case. they picked up the scent of human remains 12 feet below ground. nbc 10 got a look at the work cadaver dogs do. this 5-year-old shepard named creed was not part of the bucks county mission but the only cadaver dog crediburrently on t force. creed is trained specifically to find human remains. >> we train in environments, everything from land, water, from a boat structure, fires. every search is different. every set of circumstances is different. every environment is different and they all play a major factor

spotted workers inside boxing up dresses. >> one of the girls who is in her bridal party wrote a note on the back of a piece of paper, stuck it up on the window that said, our dresses are inside. they're bought and paid for. >> they walked away with their dresses, but other customers we spoke to say they feel hung out to dry. the "wall street journal" reports the company is planning to file for bankruptcy protection. for the second day in a row, we got hit by some strong afternoon storms. >> and for people at the jersey shore, that meant catching waves without even going to the beach. >> ahhh! there's like a wave! >> the streets of avalon looked more like the ocean today. katy sent us this video of flooding along ocean drive. >> and if the ocean comes to your street, why not take a swim? i don't know. a pool might be a lot safer.

tom took this video of a guy who made the most out of the flooding in north wildwood. let's head over now to chief meteorologist tammy souza. looking better for the weekend, right? >> a lot better. that water might be a wee bit dirty, too, with stuff mixed in with it. think twice about doing that. a much better weekend ahead. yes, we still have cloud cover as we look across the city. today we reached a high of 79. that's about 9 degrees below where we should be this time of year. we picked up just over .4 of an inch of rain at the airport. places in new jersey picked up between 3 and 5 inches of rain and we saw that man diving into some of that. 71 in allentown. 72 in coatesville. 73 in philadelphia. mt. pocono, 65. 63 at mt. holly. and atlantic city at 75 degrees. doppler radar sweeping the sky. still a few spotty showers and isolated storms that are making their way to the east. they'll pass through, perhaps,

the southern poconos, lehigh valley, maybe even making it through the philadelphia area. you can see clearing back here as we get into ohio. things are quiet. that's the clearing that's headed our way for tomorrow. still, big storms to the south of us coming out of parts of maryland. but for us, as we head through the overnight hours, a spotty shower, perhaps an isolated storm. you'll wake up in the low 70s tomorrow, see a mix of sun and clouds. look at this. we make it into the mid and upper 80s across the area for tomorrow. then we get into sunday. lots of sun on sunday. and we make it all the way near 90 degrees. so it is going to be a very warm day on sunday. tomorrow, 88 in fairmont. we're looking for elwin at 85. allentown at 84 degrees. new jersey at 88. egg harbor, 89. and dover in delaware looking at 88 degrees. don't forget, you can follow all of this any time you want with our nbc 10 app. we've got that live radar. that would have probably come in handy out there for today.

accepted the award today for his service during world war ii. the bottom ba deer was shot down in april of 1944. he was hurt and held captive at a war camp. when he was finally freed, he never sought out recognition for his service. but in 2015, his daughter did that for him. >> to my wife, and in her memory, and for the crew, thank you. >> he says the greatest thing he has had in his life is his country and his wife. and he's a true hero. >> he is. beautiful that his family reached out for him to get that recognition. >> they made it happen. what's coming up in sports, danny? >> hey, jim, jacqueline. the sixers have a lot of believers heading into a new season, guys. and you can count sir charles among them. that's right, charles barkley definitely trusts the process. hear why he says the sixers are in luck for the postseason this season. that's up next in sports.

people piled into the colonial theatre in phoenixville tonight, kicking off blob fest weekend. this is the theatre featured in the movie "the blob." on tap tonight, a few concerts, including one that had its own portrayal of the blob right there. very realistic. >> a lot of blobs on the radar. >> they are. they are pretty much gone, and we'll have one big blob in the sky tomorrow. it's going to be nice, bright and orange. should be a lovely weekend ahead. >> we like golden blobs. >> we sure do. especially in time for the weekend. >> i'm jacqueline london. >> i'm jim rosenfield. have a great weekend. we'll see you on monday. good night.
