until you see the video from a passenger's point of view. >> announcer: nbc10 news starts now. i'm jim rosenfield. only nbc10 is speaking with the bucks county district attorney about the killing spree that captured the region and the country. >> from the beginning of the investigation we were preaching let's hold on to hope until there's no roop for it left. investigators found the bodies of three of the four missing men inside a 12 foot hole at this solebury township farm but they needed the accused killer to find them where to find the last missing victim. deanna durante sat down with the d.a. for an exclusive interview today. he shared emotional moments during the investigation including when he had to deliver difficult news to the victims' families. >> i never heard of a case like this around here. >> reporter: it was an intense week plus search. and when it was over he told the

families of four missing men their remains were found. >> i'll replay that all four of them very often in my mind. it was some of the hardest things i've ever had to do. >> reporter: weintraub can't talk about the investigation. he says what was key was working with the families. >> we found the container first and no human remains in the container. then what happened is we left the container and started digging sort of underneath it so that we could excavate that, not knowing what we were going to find in there and then that's when we saw the boys. >> reporter: but only three were there and he says that deal is what brought jimmy patrick back to his family. >> if i had to do it again, i would do it all over again. >> reporter: i asked weintraub if he thinks he'll ever understand why this happened, why these men and if there could have been any other people.

he said those answers he'll not sure he'll ever get but if there are people out there who have them, he certainly wants to hear them. deanna durante, nbc10 news. to breaking news now near temple university. a large rowdy crowd. ears a look from skyforce10 where several fights broke out near the intersection of cease sill and broad. we also saw several people jumping on cars. police say this could have started with a post on social media. police are on the scene. so far they've made no arrests. we'll keep an eye on this. montgomery county say a woman stabbed her mother to death this morning. they arrested an charged 21-year-old elaina house hay for the crime. the stabbing happened early this morning and investigators say the knife was still in her mother's chest when they got there. police have not released a moti motive. a scorcher today and the

dangerous heat will continue tomorrow but now there's something else to watch out for, storms that are heading our way. meteorologist erika martin is tracking both the heat and the storms. >> we are tracking pretty much a one-two punch as far as the atmosphere is concerned. we have a first alert issued for dangerous heat through the entire weekend and severe storms as well for the entire viewing area including parts of pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware. we're expecting more dangerous heat with temperatures still continuing in the 90s and also tracking the threat of some severe thunderstorms especially for the second half of your saturday, dangerous include heat exhaustion and heat stroechl, damaging winds and hail and lightning and possible localized flooding as far as those stronger storms are concerned. hour-by-hour forecast starting at 11:00 p.m. we'll pause at that 5:00 a.m. we're starting to see some pop-ups there of just along the jersey shore but it's not until the afternoon hours when we

start to see the threat of some thunderstorms really start to pop-up and develop. here you see a line of storms here very strong line of storms moving from the northwest towards the southeast here so this is where we're seeing the threat of some really strong storms and coming up in just a bit i will time these out for you. back to you. >> and nbc10 and the nbc10 app have all the information you need to stay safe during the dangerous heat. the app will give you instant updates and notifications on the go. the sweltering conditions also taken a toll on firefighters working hard to contain this forest fire in burlington county. that fire is burning in a remote section of warton state forest and the smoke is blowing into atlantic, cape and ocean counties. health experts are urging people with lung or heart issue to stay inside. that smoke is also creating a haze that's cutting down on visibility in some areas. >> driving into a big cloud of smoke.

it was scary because you don't know where the fire was coming from. >> pretty rough out here today. the smoke is pretty thick. i have asthma so it's a little hard to be out. fortunately no injuries here. the fire is now 70% contained. smoke from another fire caused trouble for drivers near the walt whitman bridge. crews were called to a fire under the bridge around 6:15. no one was hurt here and the bridge wasn't damaged. so how far would you go for some sunglasses? this guy right here walked into a store in bucks county with two babies, put designer shades in their car seats and left. newton police say he stole a thousand dollars worth of merchandise. nbc10 brandon hudson joining us live where this crime happened. >> reporter: he stole oakleys and other high end shades and at one point employees say the man let them play with the baby. they didn't see the theft. surveillance cameras did. caught on camera with two

unlikely underaged accomplices inside design for vision in newton. surveillance video shows a man wearing a harley-davidson t-shirt. he puts the sunglasses on the baby and slides them in the car seat. police haven't said if the crook is their father. would you ever go this far to take sunglasses? >> no. >> reporter: we showed the video to dads and granddads out with their children where the crime happened wednesday. >> that's crazy. that's really crazy. >> reporter: the thief was standing right here when he put the sunglasses on the babies. it turns out he wasn't as sneaky as he thought as he was caught on one, two, three surveillance cameras. while the video was shocking, adults shoplifting with kids isn't. two years ago surveillance camera captured a mom sneaking out of a miami liquor with tequila. in south jersey a couple stashed video games in their cart with a

child back in 2013. not exactly the quality time you want to spend with the little ones. what are some things you do with your kids? >> we just booked a birthday party. >> reporter: and workers say these surveillance camera helped nab another street that hit the store recently. they are confident that the cameras will help them out again. live in newtown i'm brandon hudson, nbc10 news. now to a story making national headlines, teen watch a man drown here in the middle of a pond while they mock and taunt him. >> get out the water, you going to die. >> reporter: police say the teens offered the man no help and didn't even call 911. so they're only facing a minor charge for his death. keith jones is live tonight in our breaking news center. what would happen to these kids if they did that here in pennsylvania? >> florida law doesn't force these kids to save the man. same goes for pennsylvania, new jersey and delaware according to a lawyer. we want to warn you some people

might find this video disturbing. >> get out the water you going to die. >> reporter: five teens laughing and taunting a crying man who calls out. 31-year-old james dunn died leaving behind a fiancee, the teens just walked away. >> that's heinous. >> i showed viewers the video. >> i don't have no words. >> one of them kids probably got a cell phone. they could've called the cops. >> somebody's in need of help, you should help them. >> i'm speechless. >> reporter: you think they should be charged? >> somehow. >> reporter: the teens will for not reporting the death but not for refusing to help. here in the delaware valley. >> there's still no duty in pennsylvania for people to actually give aid. >> reporter: lawyer mike burg says the same goes for new jersey and delaware but under paens law you don't have to report a dead body. >> whether there's a duty or not, just as a human being it's something that should be

instinctive. >> the reason you aren't required by law to help is you could be held liable for any negative consequences of your action. we want to note, though, there are exceptions for certain medical experts. live in the breaking news center, keith jones, nbc10 news. tonight we're hearing from sean spicer for the first time since he stepped down from his post. spicer quick suddenly this morning. reports say he didn't agree with the president's decision to tap anthony scaramucci as the communication director. spicer addressed his decision tonight in an interview on fox news. >> my decision was to recommend to the president that i give anthony and sarah a clean slate to start from so that they can talk about the president's askren da and help move it forward. spicer will stay on through august. tonight the president tweeted that sean spicer is a wonderful person who has a bright future. attorney general jeff sessions reportedly discussed key trump campaign issue with

the former russian ambassador to the u.s. during the 2016 election. that's according to a "the washington post" report citing current and former u.s. officials. they base their assessment on communications intercepted by u.s. spy agencies. the attorney general was a foreign policy advisor to then candidate trump at the time. sessions has consistently said he did not discuss anything related to the trump campaign with that ambassador. during a visit to philadelphia today, sessions made it clear he wants the city to change its policy on undocumented immigrants and a lot of people also made it clear they disagree. sessions was met with these protests outside and during his address inside he made a direct appeal to city leaders to comply with these order to hand over undocumented immigrants to federal agents. philadelphia's police commissioner was on the front row, he said the justice department policy creates a lack of trust in police.

the parking wars in philadelphia are heading to court. south philly group is suing the parking authority demanding enforcement on the south broad street median but the parking problems on broad right now are happening from north philadelphia all the way down to south philly. drew smith with the story. >> reporter: it may not be legal but it's consistently allowed. cars parked here in the median of south broad street. people in south philly like their traditions and this is one of them. free parking in the middle of one of the city's busiest streets. >> it's unsafe for cars to be

pulling in and out of the middle of the street. >> reporter: jake leverford is the group fifth square. >> it's intermittently been enforced. >> reporter: they started making noise about this last year. >> we've decided that we have to take legal action in order to correct this. >> reporter: the lawsuit asks the philadelphia parking authority to enforce the law. it's something officers have no problem doing in other parts of the city. >> you see how people have to park. look at this. >> reporter: kendall bureaus has had to put up with this pipe work for more than a year. she's had plenty of tickets. >> it's super unfair. this is right in front of my door and it's legal to park here and i can't even get to it. >> reporter: no matter what happens in court on the south broad issue, you can bet parking in the city will continue to be a challenge. >> it's just been going on for so long, how you going to stop it at this point. >> reporter: i reached out to the bpa for comment on this

issue but did not hear back. today eagles safety malcolm jenkins and his foundation brought near 80 young campers to the novembera care dplechl for a one of a kind experience. they're part of the theme program. the kids got to run drills, check out the complex and snap pictures with malcolm and the eagles staff. lot of fun there. group of men hope jobs and a little faith will help stop the violence in west philadelphia. they gathered near the intersection of 60th and pine this evening in their hands job applications and materials promoting faith. the group's location isn't coincidenceal. a large fight broke out in the area just a few nights ago. great white sharks seem to love the jersey shore. a 1300 pound shark named hilton has been tracked oft shores of atlantic city. the shark tracking group received the ping from the 12 foot shark late this afternoon. you may remember mary lee, famous for servicing here as

well. she was last tracked in the area a month ago. so how close are great white sharks coming to our beaches? monday at 11:00, ted greenberg goes on a shark hunt to find out where they're swimming in our area. back to this dangerous heat and postal carriers braving the heat. they're one group that doesn't get a break in this kind of weather. they don't have ac in their trucks and some travel their route on foot. one carrier said the key is to know your limits. >> we give us service talks of signs and symptoms on heat stroke. when you're tired stop a little bit or get something cold to drink. >> on average she gets in six to seven miles on foot and in her 18 years of service, she's clocked more than 33,000 miles.

on top of the dangerous heat, we're also tracking storms heading to our region. take a look at the first alert radar right there and first alert meteorologist erika martin has your most accurate forecast tracking those storms coming our way this way. >> so the immediate story right now is this heat wave that continues through this weekend. temperatures will stay in the 90s on saturday and sunday. we will not see a break in those temperatures until monday when temperatures start to decline into the 80s. but we are tracking the threat of some thunderstorms as well. i'll get to that in just one moment. i do want to show you current temperatures. we're seeing lots of mid-80s and you were 70s. and vineland and dover at 80 degrees and wilmington 83 degrees for you but those feel like temperatures still making a difference. it feels like it's almost 90 degrees in dover, wilmington and philadelphia. 85 in coatesville and 85 in mt. holly. still a very warm night. now live look outside.

we are starting to see some clouds develop across the entire delaware valley. saturday and radar notice we're seeing lots of bright white clouds. that's very important. that tells me that we do have higher clouds starting to build and start approximating to see some greens on the southwest of us. this is a system that we're tracking in the upper midwest. it's going to head in our direction and as it does it will certainly start to trigger thunderstorms from the northwest towards the southeast. so let's time this out for you hour by hour. we'll start this at 11:00 p.m. and pause this by early tomorrow morning. it looks like we will see some isolated showers moving across the jersey shore. still no thunderstorms yet but by lunchtime just after lunchtime we start to pick up on the threat of some more thunderstorms. i do expect the stronger storms to get here tomorrow after 5:00, 6:00 p.m. keep that in mind. you'll need those umbrellas to say the least but i do expect hail, some really strong wind gusts as well.

we'll continue hour by hour 7:00 p.m. here, see the bright reds there. that tells us we do have the potential for really strong storms and i don't expect this to clear until after midnight even though we will see some showers overnight saturday into sunday. the ten day on ten we'll keep it hot through monday and then temperatures declining much more comfortable until by tuesday and wednesday. we'll see 83 on tuesday, 82 on wednesday. tracking the threat of some showers by following thursday but for right now we are tracking really hot conditions and those storms. back to you. and next on nbc10 news at 11:00. a plane forced to land right in the middle of the water and one passenger got video of all this from inside. when we come back.

the plane taken by a tv producer named bill lawrence. he was one of ten on board when the plane went down. fortunately no one was hurt here. it appears the plane's left side pontoon broke and tipped the wing into the water. new video here from san diego shows the moments after a car slammed into a gas pump, flames immediately engulfed the vehicle and even spread to another nearby car. the fires out tonight. the driver says his foot slipped from the brake to the gas pedal. here at home. you now have to be 21 to buy tobacco in new jersey. the garden state becomes the third to boost the age to 21. the sponsor of the bill says smoking is responsible for nearly half a million deaths in the united states every year. >> i'm danny pom mel lowe. the eagles get ready to go back to work and one player is helping a local youth team stay on the field as well.
