watching your waist. nbc 10 asks if this popular device can really make you skinnier. nbc 10 news starts now. right now at 11:00, not backing down. the mayor of allentown says he' faces a federal indictment. good evening. i'm jaclyn london. >> we were first to report these developments against the mayor. >> for now, the news has divided the people of allen down. >> randy following this case since agents raid t raided the mayor's office more than two years ago. >> reporter: tonight the mayor told me via text message that he intends to stay on as mayor and will continue campaigning for a fourth term. we wanted to ask him questions on camera tonight about this looming indictment, but for now,

he lets his supporters d talkin. allentown's embattled mayor drives away from our cameras, not speaking publicly yet. but tonight his supporters stood by him. >> you have the presumption of being innocent until proven guilty. >> he has done nothing wrong. >> reporter: but according to his own attorney, an indictment is coming, part of the ongoing investigation into pay to play politics. tomorrow, federal prosecutors say they'll announce charges in both lehigh and burks county. two years ago we spotted fbi agents at reading city hall rd office. >> i'm glad to see that this day's finally come. it's very very damaging for allentown. >> reporter: his critics have long demanded he step down. so far, nine people have pled guilty in the ongoing probe. >> we want this over with and our city government back. >> reporter: the city cannot function with the mayor facing charges, he says.

>> this is ridiculous. this has to end, you cannot continue to govern a city when you are not only under federal investigation but under federal indictment. >> reporter: but he remains popular. he just won an election. >> he comes to our houses, our barbecues, birthdays, he's our mayor, of all of us. >> reporter: now he does intend to speak publicly tomorrow during a press conference. right now he does not know what's inside that indictment, because it remains sealed. we're expecting federal prosecutors to release more information at an afternoon news conference tomorrow in philadelphia. randy gyllenhaal, nbc 10 news. this area has seen its fair share of public figures under indictment. seth williams pled guilty last month. last year, chaka fattah was

found guilty. and robert menendez's case has yet to go to trial. the future of your health care is now in the hands of the u.s. senate. today republicans barely got the votes they needed to simply debate a new health care bim. and minutes ago, their first option for repealing and replacing obamacare was voted down. it shows that republicans are still divided on big questions. will a new bill get rid of the han date to have health care? will it cut medicaid or subsidies for private insurance? keith jones spoke to patients who are waiting for those answer. >> basically the senate has agreed to open debate on repealing and replacing obamacare. both sides admit they don't know what they'll end up voting on. while patients and families hang in the balance. >> it's just killing me. going to kill my son, literally. >> her son is being covered for addiction. he's covered through obamacare. >> i'm thankful he didn't die on

victory tonight while tom carper says this shouldn't be a partisan issue. >> we should fix the things in the affordable care act at that should be fixed and reserve those that should be preserved. >> senator mccain admitted this bill has a long way to go. live in the breaking news center, keith jones, nbc 10 news. new at 11:00, the justice department has taken a new step in its crackdown on so-called sanctuary cities like philadelphia. the department says it will now require those cities to give federal immigration agents access to their jails and notify those agents before releasing an undocumented immigrant. if they don't, those cities could lose valuable grant money that's used to buy everything from bulletproof vests to body cameras. right now, a septa police officer attacked and knocked to the ground, and it was all caught on her own body camera.

[ bleep ]. ah, [ bleep ]. >> this happened last night at septa's angora station in southwest philadelphia. the septa police sergeant tried to stop the man after reports that he was on the tracks. you can see she was shoved to the ground. the sergeant hurt her head and back and police are still looking for this man right here. also tonight, a father and son are in the hospital right now after an argument that involved a gun and a sword. investigators in potts town say the man shot his son multiple times after the sun attacked him with a sword, cutting his hand. you can see the officers taking away guns from the house on lincoln avenue. right now the son is in critical condition. the father is expected to be okay. no word yet on how that fight started. in montgomery county, penn dot shuts down a bridge because of safety concerns. this is the valley green road bridge. it was shut down immediately today and will remain closed until further notice.

home yesterday on a busy interstate 476 when he saw the unthinkable at mile marker 14. >> out of the corner of my eye, i saw a car flipping over onto the shoulder. >> reporter: so he pulled over and parked. moments later he heard somebody inside the car. help was on the way. >> by the grace of god, other people stopped and there was enough manpower to flip that car. >> reporter: they flipped the convertible on its side like you see in this photo. >> a guy told her to get back, get back. and he cut the convertible top. >> what was the first thing that woman said when she got out of the car? >> she didn't say a word. it was a blank stare. obvious and total shock. >> reporter: state police say the driver refused medical treatment. the experience stirred up familiar feelings for the former police officer of 14 years. >> i've run into many difficult crashes. that one was scary because of the entrapment factor. >> reporter: so what began as a split second decision turned

. take a look at this. in the middle of the night, two men decided they were going to scale the ben franklin bridge. this is video from 1:30 this morning, police climbed the bridge to arrest these guys. it's 400 feet from the top of the bridge to the water. both are facing a long list of charges, and photography equipment was found in their

backpacks. a data breach was looked into at one of the largest networks. medical histories, birth dates and a ton of information in the hands of criminals. the women's health care group is telling patients that hackers stole their information, everything from names, birth dates, social security numbers to pregnancy histories and blood types. hackers can sell the medical records on the darkweb in bulk. it was stolen in january. they didn't find out until may and didn't tell patients until this month. the health care network filed a report with the fbi and is offering one year of identity protection. what's under your hood? if you own a jeep wrangler, it could be in jeopardy. in the last month, philadelphia police say there's been an increase in the number of stolen batteries from these cars. one of the thefts was caught on surveillance video. this one happened last month on lombard street in center city.

the hood can be opened from the outside. there are hood locks you can buy to protect your vehicle. the new study is presenting some of the strongest evidence ever linking the game of football to traumatic brain damage. researchers at boston university studied the brains of deceased football players and they found evidence of cte in the vast majority of collegiate players, 111 nfl players, 110 had cte. families strongly suspected they had brain damage. cte can only be diagnosed after death. >> most likely that every nfl player was also a collegiate player and a youth in high school football player. what's alarming is how little we know about the sudden impact exposure. >> the nfl says it's committed to supporting cte research and progressing treatment and prevention of head injuries. also when it comes to diet trends, there is always, always
